#you tell him nightwing
Text
Taking place during the Jason Todd redemption arc, Nightwing and Jason Todd (going by Red Hood) have made semi-amends and Nightwing wants his Batman (their adopted father) to talk and make amends as well, but he can only take that man's stubbornness for so long.
Nightwing along with Donna Troy enters the Justice League headquarters, spotting Batman talking to Wonder Woman.
Nightwing: Hey Batman, can you put your ego aside and talk to Jason?
Wonder Woman (perking up): Oh, the small warrior is alive! Fantastic!
Batman glares at Wonder Woman, but she rolls her eyes and puts her hand up.
Batman (to Nightwing): About what? Is he apologizing to me?
Nightwing: You know that is not what needs to be done.
Batman: I'm not discussing this.
Batman walks away, Nightwing clenches his fist, walking quickly behind Batman to call him out on how he's been acting.
Nightwing: You can disagree with his whole killing bad people rule, you have a right to not want to kill the Joker, that's your opinion, but you threw a Batarang at him and it pierced his neck!
Wonder Woman woman and Donna Troy who have been following the two gasp in shock.
Donna: You left that part out!
WW: Batman, that's wrong!
Batman (facing away from the group, but he stops walking): He was supposed to DODGE!
Nightwing: HE IS NOT MIND READER!
Batman: I'm not apologizing I said what I said to him and I will not take that back!
Nightwing (gritted teeth): I'm not telling you too! You already showed you'd rather let the Joker walk over avenging him and while Jason is rightfully mad at that, I have always seen what you mean, but you have to see how you're acting is making things worse.
Batman stays silent for a second then turns to Nightwing.
Batman: Or Jason just doesn't want to own up to the fact that I am right.
Wonder Woman facepalms.
WW: Really thought you'd say the right thing.
Batman: What do you want me to do lie to him?
Nightwing: Maybe don't tell him you regret adopting him!
Donna Troy (to Wonder Woman): He said that, but the context kind of makes what he said less awful.
Batman: See she gets it! The context is that I didn't want to adopt him because of what he has become! The former Robin is now a malicious murderer!
Nightwing: Who is coming around to not being that, no thanks to you, you ... ASS!
Batman: Take that back!
Nightwing: Okay, sure... You are being a shitty person! You can't just talk to him?!
Batman: No! Because I didn't do anything wrong!
Nightwing: You let the man's murderer walk, you threw a Batarang at him under the ridiculous assumption that he would read your mind or instinct or whatever you want to call it and dodge that over just killing his murderer! And again while I don't fully agree with killing someone... Jason has brought up a lot of good points-
Batman: Fuck off he hasn't!
Wonder Woman: Hey let's just calm down. Things are getting a little heated now.
Nightwing (ignoring the woman): You're just going to ignore the fact that Jason may have a point? I'm not saying becoming a killer or anything, but he has every reason to be mad that the Joker hasn't been killed yet! He told you to his face he forgives you for not saving him but he doesn't get why you kept the Joker alive or at least didn't try to kill him once! I fucking killed him once, but you couldn't try?!
Batman: No, because I'm not you!
Donna covers her mouth.
Batman: Finish the sentence and I will bitch slap you!
Nightwing (taking a deep breath to calm himself): Joker has no remorse for what he does. Jason still has emotions yet you're acting like he's on par with the Joker. I tried to put up with the Joker's "lol random, chaos, look at me!" But the whole clown schtick stopped being a schtick when he shot-
Nightwing: Oh so Barbara getting shot isn't something you want to talk about?
Batman: Don't you bring her into this.
Donna Troy: Hey, let's just take a breather. Step back and-
Nightwing chuckles angrily losing his patience with the man he saw as his father.
Nightwing: No, Donna, Diana let me say this. Barbara is wheelchair bound because of that... that sick bastard! So don't you give me some bullcrap speech about how "criminals should serve time over getting killed" because the Joker is the one who deserves the death penalty!
Nightwing: Who's next, who will he go after in this family of ours? Who will he kill or maim before you wake the fuck up-
Batman back hand slaps Nightwing nearly knocking the man to the ground. Donna and Diana gasp. Nightwing blinks, as his heart raced with rage. His clenched fist tightens as he looks at Batman.
Nightwing: Yup.
Nightwing punches Batman in the nose, knocking the man to the ground. Donna walks over to Nightwing as Wonder Woman looks down at Batman (she's not on his side here). Nightwing breathes heavy.
Donna: Relax, bluebird. He's not worth it.
Nightwing: You're right Donna. Bruce, I'm calling you that because you don't deserve to be called Batman right now, we're both heated at the moment, so I'm going to go. You will change your tone, I believe you will, and I won't turn my back on you, but if you hit me like that again I won't hold back and I will use a lot more than my fists.
Nightwing leaves, walking with a calm, steadiness even though his heart was still racing
Donna: That was badass!
Wonder Woman stares at Donna for a second, shrugs and nods.
WW: Good retaliation when someone slaps you as well. That precious blue bird has grown to be a great hero.
Donna nods with a smile.
Donna: All right, aunt Diana, we're headed back to the tower. The team and I are going to talk to him. You... you handle... That.
WW: The pitiful man on the ground? My pleasure.
Donna runs out while calling out to Nightwing.
Donna: Bluebird, you can't go punching the guy, you promised you'd hold back!
Wonder Woman sighs, rubbing her forehead.
WW: I swear, Bruce you are ridiculous. Are you okay?
Batman touches his nose that's bleeding.
Batman: Huh, this is a new feeling, pride in someone else.
Wonder Woman holds up her hands to countdown from three.
Batman (after three seconds): Unfortunately it's overshadowed by all this unyielding RAGE!
Wonder Woman presses her foot on Batman's chest to keep him down.
Batman: Diana move your boot!
Wonder Woman: Oh Brucie, you think I'm going to let you go after that precious man after all you said, after you pimp slapped him? Nah, you need a moment to collect your thoughts and calm your testosterone.
Batman (frazzled): It wasn't a pimp slap... it was a disciplinary backhanded slap.
WW (rolling her eyes): And I guess his was a self-defense punch.
Batman (mumbling): He- He caught me off guard.
WW: What ever helps you rationalize slapping him. I will remove my boot and you get your apology prepared for him and that precious young warrior who was a fan of me. Many awful things were said and done to both of them by you, but you can fix this.
Batman: I'm not apologizing because I'm not wrong.
WW: That does make things harder. Thanks for that.
Batman: No problem. Move your boot please.
WW (moving her boot and walking off): Grown ass man acting worse than Ares when the delivery man forgot his straw.
Batman: I heard that!
WW: Wanted you to, Bruce.

"I can see dead people." He mentions with a shrug, using the chopsticks to fish more noodles into his mouth.
Dick stares at him. "Huh."
"Is that why you help?" He asks, getting more spring rolls.
"Yeah. Once someone becomes a ghost, word gets out quick, and they come to me. Always tatling about unfairness and justice." The kid waves the words around, rolling his eyes.
Dick just pretens to he uninterested, despite his mind racing at the new info. He is piecing past moments together, every shadow leaping away, every note with tips, leads and—
Huh.
"Do you... like it? Doing all that?" Richard approaches thus carefully, brows furrowed at the kid opposite of him.
Danny moves his head, giving a 'so-so' answer. "It's not much to like, I can see ghosts, and they know it and use it. If it brings them to peace or whatever– well, that's just a plus."
Dick stares. He places his chopsticks down and looks at Danny worried.
In turn, the kid sighs. "Sometimes gifts become curses the longer you have it."
And Dick understands.
Mind made up, he throws a pair of keys at the kid, watching fondly as the other catches them with confusion.
"Next time use these, instead of entering through the window."
Danny mock-salutes with a shit eating grin. "Yes, Officer grayson."

1. dick finds out batman replaced him as robin (without asking him) from the NEWSPAPER and simultaneously finds out bruce adopted a new kid without telling him (to make things worse: bruce didn’t even adopt dick)
2. dick finds out jason died from the newspaper (AGAIN? REALLY BRUCE?) and bruce had the fucking funeral WITHOUT HIM while he was still in space

"Dick would kill him because he is not Batman."
You have no respect for Dick Grayson's character. Or you don't understand him.
We are talking about the man that let Blockbuster, a vilain who had killed all Dick's neighbors, get killed in front of him and lost it. Dick didn't move and let this man he hated be killed, and it broke him. He went catatonic and was raped. He blamed himself like he was the one who killed that man, and he hated himself. He went on with this burden, until he nearly died by Deathstroke's hand. Saved by Bruce, he spilled to his father what had happened and asked him to forgive him. And Bruce told him that it wasn't his place, only Dick himself could forgive himself. (Aka Bruce doesn't judge him and Dick needs to forgive himself and starts healing) It fucking destroyed him to just LET a bad guy be killed.
Yes, he murdered the Joker, but it was in an act of rage. Just like when he stepped aside and let Blockbuster got shot, he let his emotions in command. But it would have break him if the Joker hasn't been brought back. He would have never forgive himself.
Bruce refuses to kill because he knows he would like it. He is conscious of his own capacity for evil. Dick refuses to kill because it would end him.
No, Dick would not kill.

YJ S3 Dick, still in the midst of his fever dream, hides underneath the 'souvenir' instead of behind some boxes, and accidentally opens the airlock trying to take care of the Parademons. The others get it to close... but not before Nightwing is thrown into space.
There, he stares at the ship holding his friends and mentors. There, he wishes more than anything that he can, somehow, survive. There, he tries to live, if only so his family don't have to bury him like Jason.
There, Nightwing dies, wanting to save everyone, even with the cold seeping into his bones far too quickly for a regular section of space.
Then, Dick opens his eyes to... Earth? There's a little house, and grass, and trees, but there's a bubble of green over it all. Outside of that green was an entire castle, one that looked like it should have far more support beams than it does for even a hope that it stays standing.
And the sky was swirling shades of that same green. It makes him think of Lazarus.
"Well, that's something you don't see every day." He whips his head behind him, a bit too fast for Earth's atmosphere, but it doesn't hurt him. Past the bubble of green was a blue-skinned adult in purple robes, the insides of a grandfather-clock fitted inside their torso, and a black staff with a stopwatch on its top. Beside them was a man with snow white hair, glowing green eyes, a crown of frozen fire dancing above his head, and the most galaxy-like cloak Dick's ever seen clasped to his shoulders. He's wearing... a hazmat suit? Maybe? The twinkling stars and odd lighting of wherever he is were giving him a bit of a headache.
But in front of those two, within this bubble, was...
"DICK!" Wally shouted with unrestrained glee, a blur overtaking his spot for barely a heartbeat before Dick's stuck in a crushing hug that he reciprocates once his brain stops feeling like its melting.
He doesn't know how long it took for them to calm down, but the man with the crown spoke up after a time, as Wally was still wiping their faces free of tears. "Welcome to the Infinite Realms, Nightwing." Dick barely even registered that he was still wearing his suit, but now it felt suffocating. "I suppose you're the one Clockwork was holding out for; There shouldn't've been enough Ectoplasm around you to form a Ghost, and your physical body's still in space. I can see why you like this one, though, Clockie," he states flippantly, turning to his companion. Almost like he didn't expect Dick to pay too close attention to what he was saying.
"Either way, there's two options for you." The man didn't let Dick swallow his tears and question anything. Dick's not sure if he's grateful or not. "First: Stay in the Realms permanently. You'll see Kid Flash whenever you want and learn to be a Ghost with the denizens of the Realms. Maybe find your parents."
"But..." Dick pulls away from Wally, keeping him at arms length, eyes flitting between them. The two outside the bubble were distinctly... ghost-like, so the mentions of 'Ghosts' make sense. But Wally looked... alive. A bit pale, a bit thin... but alive. Dick can't see any of his own skin to see if it was blue or tinted that way, but the Nightwing symbol on his chest kept flickering between its own blue and this 'Realms' green. "But--What about the others? What about you? Why can't you come home?" The last two, he focuses on Wally, because now he can feel a heartbeat beneath his gloves. Wally's alive. He's alive.
His friend just shrugs. "Something about their portals not fit for the living? I'm meant to wait for someone to figure out a permanent portal, but they won't tell me how long that'll take." Wally glares at the... 'Ghosts'? There was a heat to it, but it also seemed like this was a well-worn argument.
"The permanent portal was always an 'if', Wallace West. And that is entirely dependent on if Richard Grayson takes the second option," the clock Ghost--Clockwork?--speaks up. But instead of the adult Dick was expecting, there was an elderly Ghost in their place. Still with the time motif. Was that... more literal than Dick took it?
"Yes, the second option..." The crowned man glares daggers at Clockwork. The temperature dips below comfortable. Dick tries to blink the spaceship and stars out of his sight, withdrawing his arms from Wally to try and warm himself. Tries to remember he's not in space. "The second option is that you return to your body... changed. You'll be able to protect Earth better, stay with your alive family, save the Lost Ones... for a price."
Dick doesn't know if he should ignore the plural in 'Lost Ones'. He doesn't know if he's reading too much into how, in this Realm, apparently only his parents were able to be found. Where's Jason? He doesn't dare hope, but...
"What's the price?"
The man smiles and a ring of blue forms around his waist. It splits in two and travels up and down his body, replacing the cloak and whatever clothes he was actually wearing with a NASA shirt, worn jeans, and red sneakers actually duct taped together. The blue tint to his otherwise tan skin fades completely. His hair turns black. His eyes turn blue.
He was like a taller, slightly slimmer, way hotter version of Bruce.
The man walks through the bubble, but doesn't disturb the grass beneath his feet. "You become the Ghost King's vassal." Dick flinches away and almost hides behind Wally. "Not my idea! But, well... it is either this, or your permanent death."
"What does becoming a vassal do to him?" Wally asks, gently trying to stop Dick from breaking his ribs with how tightly he was hugging himself. Does he even have ribs?
"He gains my powers. Ice, electricity, invisibility, intangibility, flight... He becomes a Halfa. He becomes what I was, in life. Just... needing to make offerings to me, now and then. Something like that, at least. I give him powers, he gives me a chunk of, I don't know, chocolate once a week. Like a warlock."
Wally keeps talking to the man, keeps getting information that he knows he should pay attention to, but something in his chest screams to accept this deal, and he can't focus on anything else.
Nightwing can protect. He can return to life and go back to Blüdhaven, be the Vigilante they need. He can visit Gotham every now and then, help with cases and stop criminals from harming others. He can see his brother. He can see his friends. He can eat Alfred's cookies, and have little get-togethers with Babs and the Team--hell, he can argue with Bruce.
And all he has to do is... give an offering to this guy? The Ghost King? Every once in a while?
"There's no other price?" The King turns his attention to Dick. His eyes had shifted to a blue-green that almost hypnotize him. The green swirls, the blue forms and melts like snowflakes, and he can't look away.
He takes another step forward and Wally steps to the side. There was familiarity between them. Wally deferred to him. Dick can't quite tell why. Though, with how Wally hasn't once looked at Clockwork, maybe it's because he's... grounded? Are all speedsters in trouble with, what, the Ghost of Time? That... actually makes perfect sense.
"I'll be honest, Nightwing: You've impressed me." The weight behind the King's words lifts the ones that've been on his shoulders since he was nine. "You remind me of myself. Maybe, if I wasn't a Halfa... If I had a mentor... I could've been like you.
"Despite Clockwork's insistence over the years that I get back in touch with the living, I've held off. When he eventually suggested that I help create another Halfa, I locked him in his tower for twenty years. I didn't want anyone to go through what I had. But, now... I see that you won't. You can't. Even if you hide this deal--our shared powers... You'll still have people by your side. Strong people. Smart people. You can already handle yourself. And I'd love to see what you can do--who you can save--with my help."
There was maybe two inches between their faces when the King finishes speaking. Dick roves his eyes across the other's face, trying to find the common and familiar ticks that show lies and deceit and manipulation. All he finds is sincerity and genuine care.
Wally plays with his fingers from the corner of his eye, gaze hopeful as he looks between the two of them. Wally, who was alive and breathing and able to leave if he accepts. Eventually. Somehow.
Dick Grayson sends a quiet apology to his parents and hopes they will forgive him for being a little bit selfish.
"I accept."
He flings his eyes open. Above him, domino mask too wobbly to be properly secured anymore, was Robin crying and begging him to wake up. His hands were sloppily placed over his heart. Batman was trying to drag him away, the firm set of his jaw screaming grief.
Nightwing gasps once he registers his lungs burning.
There's a large cacophony of noise, multiple bright suits and people hounding over him, and the distinct artificial taste of slightly-too-much oxygen that the ship with the Parademons had. That he flew out of and died. He was still too cold.
Someone moves their arm beneath his knees and shoulder and Dick passes out.
(Dick 'Nightwing' Grayson dies in space. Ghost King Danny Phantom likes this too-human Hero. They split their souls in half, take one piece of the others, and all they know is that Phantom is now Nightwing's Patron Deity. Danny uses ice, for electricity killed him. Dick uses electricity, for ice killed him. They are opposites, and yet so incredibly similar. Clockwork was looking forward to when Danny starts putting off his paperwork to hang out with his new 'friend'.)

I've been really enjoying the New Teen Titans series, and one of my favorite things about it is that whenever one of the Titans is mad at Dick, they call him "Batboy".

All the bats have their own ways of addressing other people.
Dick uses “kid, kiddo, buddy, friend”
Jason is similar, using “hey, kid, fucker”
Tim uses “you, *insert guys name or meme referring to guy*”
Stephanie uses “honey, friend, bud, *insert funny nickname*”
Damian uses “you,*insert what he considers whoever he’s talking to’s biggest flaw*
But Batman?
Batman uses “Love, princess, darling”
That’s how all the thirst traps started.

Not DDD but some tooth rotting fluff with Dadwing that I had written a while ago.
Dick had always had a kinda 6th sense when it came to Damian, they had been Batman and Robin together, *the* dynamic duo! So he knew when his little brother was upset, more so than usual.
It started after a failed capture, the Riddler had been out of Arkham for over 3 weeks, the longest that he had been out for quite some time.
Bruce had finally found Eddie's hiding spot and was staking him out for some time, trying to determine whether the Riddler was truly there or this was once again a decoy safe house.
Bruce regretfully has the communication skills of a particularly grumpy slug and failed to properly give Damian the brief on what he was doing after joining his father from a round of patrols with Dick.
It really truly wasn't Damian's fault that he rushed in and only really succeeded in flushing out the Riddler and driving him to ground once more.
And once again, Bruce the grumpy slug scowled, let out a grunt and demanded Damian back to the cave, further not explaining why Bruce tried to stop him from taking down the Riddler and why he didn't pursue.
---
Dick was surprised to come out of the locker rooms of the cave to his youngest brother, practically shaking with rage as he not so carefully pulled off his suit, and what was the most concerning to Dick was the quiet, but still angry mutterings coming from the boy.
Dick felt a pang in his chest at the words, his Arabic was not the best but he could tell more than a few foul words slipping from Damians lips, taking a small breath to prepare, Dick slowly approached his little brother, holding his hands up in surrender even before speaking.
"Hey Babybat? Dami? You okay kiddo? What are you-" Dick stopped mid sentence at the scathing glare that was leveled at him, blinking a few times as his brother collected himself enough to speak clearly, but his voice was rough with emotion, and his accent that was usually hidden away came back harder. (Something that Dick realized that Jason and Damian shared, the angrier they are the more they go back to their roots.)
"Do not attempt to placate me Richard, I am not playing your foolish games nor am I wanting to speak of my feelings, so I simply ask you to leave. Me. The. Fuck. Alone." At the end the boys words were ground out as he threw down the Robin chest plate and stromed past Dick, heading to the showers.
---
Dick knew it was a little bit risky, but something was clearly upsetting his little brother greatly, so here he was, standing outside of Damians room, letting out a small sigh, Dick softly knocked on the door.
Two short, one long: U
Three long: O
One long, one short, one long: K
Morse code, one of the first no vocal languages that all the birds and the Bats knew, Dick and Damian had used it more than a few times on the field.
The only thing that Dick received from that was a dull thud of something being thrown at the door and the much softer sound of it falling to the floor, but the rest of the room was an inky black.
Letting out a sigh, the oldest of the Wayne children grabbed onto the doorhandle and slowly turning it, pushing the door in as he popped his head in, seeing the sacrificed plush animal laying on the ground where it was thrown
Dick felt guilty being glad it wasn't a knife.
"Dami? Little D? Kiddo I am going to come in..."
Opening the door more, Dick slipped into the dark room, spacial awareness helped Dick circumvent the few basic traps laid around his little brothers room, and made his way over to the boy's bed.
Eyes adjusting to the dark quickly, Dick could see the small outline of his brother shaking under the covers, looking so small in the king-sized bed, sitting on the edge, Dick laid a hand on where he thinks Damians hip is, feeling his heart break a little at the small jump he felt as he did.
"Can you talk to me? Please? I want to help kiddo." The only response he got was a shaky drawn in breath and the form under the blankets shifting, sitting up and revealing his younger brother.
His jade green eyes practically glowed in the dark of the room, Damians glare more tired than angry.
(It was times like these that Dick had to force himself to believe that Damian was just his brother, that the boy was not his son, wasn't the boy he raised for a year and a half as his own)
Shuffling closer to the center of the bed, Dick softly placed his forehead on the boy's own before pulling back after a second, he had learnt that little touches of affection got him a lot farther (and a lot less stabbed) with Damian.
Sitting back Dick watched as Damian crawled over, closing the distance between them and leaned his head onto Dicks shoulder, his eyes fluttering closed as he took in several deep breaths, calming himself even further.
Dick didn't dare move while Damian re-centered only snaking his arms around the smaller boy once he felt Damian go slack against him, softly cradling Damian in his arms as he pressed a soft kiss to the boy's spiky locks.
They stayed that way for a while, Dick gently rocking them both as he held his younger brother, silently waiting for Damian to speak first.
"...Father is an idiot..."
Blinking at the words that finally came out, Dick took it in stride, "For a man that is called the worlds greatest detective he can't see two feet in front of him when his loved ones are involved."
Silence lapsed after a little while, only breaking again as Damian pulled back from the hug, staring into Dicks powder blue eyes,
"...is it bad that some days I hate him Baba?" The words crush him, hitting at Dicks heart far worse than anything he had felt before, throat raw and itchy suddenly, Dick tried to not let Damians choice of words affect him.
(Dick has never heard Dami call Bruce Baba, only a ever respectful Father.)
"I-I, Um...I have felt way about B more than a few times Dames...He tries his best but sometimes...some times I do" There was a shine to Damians eyes as he looked into Dicks as the man continued softly "But I don't think it's bad...no I think you are just growing up...It...it's the beginning to when your seeing B how he can truly be like." (A scornful son of a bitch, only that Martha was a wonderful woman...)
Damians face grew distraught, and the shine pooled until soft tears ran down the boys face, "I do not wish to hate Father, but why can he simply not...speak to me? He has not spoke to me outside of case work for over three days and even during that no more than a few words..." leaning his head against Dicks shoulder, the boy's words were muffled slightly as he continued
"Is...is it wrong to expect more from him Baba?"
Dick didn't have any words for his Damian, because he sure as shit isn't Bruce's at the moment, sweeping the boy up into his arms, Dick hled him close while laying the two of them down, Dick on his back and his boy on his chest.
Running a hand through Damians soft hair, Dick thought hard of what to say, "I will speak to him...and maybe Tim...I know you two still have disagreements but honestly for some reason he listens to Tim more than even Alfred...you deserve so much more than that kiddo..."
Dick felt the soft shakes as Damian cried ontop of him, it broke the man's heart to smithereens that even while overwhelmed by emotions his boy still felt the need to try and be as quiet as possible.
Once he felt Damians shudders slow, an the boys breathing came back to a normal rate, Dick reached into his pants and pulled out his phone, "I think we both gotta unwind a little bud...have I ever shown you Bob Ross?"
---
(They watch till the sun peaks through the black out curtains, well, it plays that long, but the two where asleep for a lot longer than that.)
(Bruce gets a very long talking too by his kids, and gets the cowl taken away from him until he gets therapy)
(It only works a little.)
(He made a new one)

Ok…so I saw a post about Dick hating Jason after he came back from the dead and like… it said that canonically, Dick wishes Jason stayed dead.
And, like, yeah, I guess that makes sense, but it also rubbed me in the wrong way? Like… hrgh.
But like… I’ll accept that Dick didn’t like Jason when Jason was 17/18/19 taking over Gothams crime. ONLY BECAUSE—
And ONLY because, as someone who has multiple siblings, especially in dysfunctional households, you hate them for the longest time of your life either because
A.) your parents put a sibling on a pedestal or
B.) because a sibling refuses to stay within the boundaries that the parent has created,
which is literally the problem for both Dick and Jason.
In Jason’s eyes, Dick is the golden child and can do no wrong. In Dicks eyes, he sees Jason’s ‘crime lord’ era as petty teenage rebellion, and blatant disrespect towards Bruce and his morals/teachings.
Eventually, you realize that at the end of the day, the only person who really understands you is your sibling. They more or less went through the same thing, they just have a different way of processing through it. So one random Tuesday, you’ll be acting like you haven’t been hating each other your whole life, and then a couple years later you’ll be saying things like ‘remember that time I almost killed you’ and ‘oh yeah, I absolutely hated you back then’ but you’ll be laughing as you say it because it was genuinely so petty the way you acted with/towards them when you should’ve been hating your parents.
TLDR: parents playing favorites will lead to sibling resentment but eventually turn into a lifelong bondage that’s stronger than iron

Bruce's trust is a double-edged sword for Dick. The more trust Bruce puts on him, the less Dick can relax. There's no room for imperfections if the man he considers bigger than life thinks so highly of him. Who is he to disappoint him? We know how that goes for Dick. Fired, pushed away, benched. He only gets painful reminders that he isn't as good as Bruce believes him to be when he fails. When Bruce tries to protect him, Dick feels like it's a punishment. Because if Bruce has to protect him, that means he isn't strong enough; good enough to continue fighting by his side. And Dick is no stranger to great heights, but it's as terrifying as the first time he jumped without a net being in such a high pedestal knowing he could fall any time and be looked down on by Batman when he looks up from the ground.

I need Billy to get Clark Kent-ed in a fic and sent to cover a Wayne gala
Billy and Bruce meet, names are exchanged, and Bruce worries if this kid is doing okay and if there’s a father position open. Billy is there for some Wayne-Sivana partnership with Magnificus, asking a lot of well informed questions and acting like a little cherub.
Them bad guys break in, one has a gun to Billy’s head and Billy, in true street kid fashion and with the experience from his last 57 kidnapping attempts; bites the hand over his mouth, throws the guy whose twice his size over himself and twists his arm, and dismantles the gun before Batman swoops in and saves the rest of the day.
Batman checks on him, asking if he’s okay, and Billy drops the good kid act and straight up tells him to piss off because he’s not getting adopted by a furry man-child who lives a state away from his hometown
Any Robin or sidekick that was there just cheers the kid on from the roof top screaming “DODGED THAT BULLET!” after having spent the whole gala trying to keep them apart before Bruce could bust out the adoption papers

i am asking please that fans of tim and dick and batfamily in general please read batman: prodigal. reading it helps show when tim and dick started to really bond and dismisses the notion that dick can't cook or clean.
in fact, i referenced it in my small writing tidbit that had my self insert, dick and jason in jason's apartment with a bit about orange juice :D
it also dismisses the whole 'oh dick and tim never really bonded when tim was robin'. actually no tim strongarmed his way in there until dick had realized he liked the little shit as his little brother, long before he was adopted.
