i either dont write, but keep everything that i was using to help write up and in my face, so i get so annoyed by it that i eventually get back to it.

or i skip that whole section and write another part (typically a different pov or a portion that doesnt require whatever im avoiding writing).

or if im trying to write dialogue but i keep getting tripped up by the descriptors before or during the dialogue, i just. write all the dialogue i want. forgive for the self plug but its what i had to do to finally work through a near 7 month long block in my dp x dc fic, ghost town. i cant even show the full exchange in one screenshot bc i wrote so much but:

literally every single line of dialogue here i wrote on its own. i started new paragraphs for every new character, sometimes put their names before or after the first quotes depending on if their dialogue would be broken up or if the 'dialogue first descriptors second' was too monotonous. i cant even distinguish where i had stopped just writing the dialogue and where i had started writing the in betweens and just. kept writing the dialogue and in betweens like normal.

like, i didn't even imagine that i'd write dick in the shower or brushing his teeth throughout this part! but that's just how it flowed once i started filling it in!

it's like drawing, in a sense. you get blocked bc you cant imagine what the final picture looks like, or you can but you just cant imagine the process. but if you just think about the outline, then suddenly the coloring is easier, and the picture is... done? really? in less than a week? and youd pushed it off for seven months? huh.

and as an example of the second option... i have multiple finished parts that i want to show sometime in the fic in a separate doc that i copy-paste in when needed. mind you, i have to take the time to rough it up for the fic and add interjecting parts, but that's probably just a me thing.

there was a part of this chapter that i just 100% skipped over bc it didn't matter to the rest of the chapter. did i know what i was gonna write? nope. literally just like four words. "phantom talks to nocturne". that's all i had written until i was done with the rest of the chapter and was still in the mood to write. did i even know what pov? not at all! and because of how i wrote it, i 'referenced' a shit ton in that section that was meant to expand upon what i had just written in the end section! i wrote backwards! and i didn't realize until i'd finished! but i still just sent it bc. what's a little confusion for the readers? they can be pulling their hair out at this. as a treat (for the author)

it also helps to have a dedicated music playlist and allow yourself like actual breaks and not guilt-ridden breaks. i only really start writing once ive eaten a meal and caught up with youtube, where i then use twitch as little ten-twenty minute breaks. sometimes i just get up and grab an apple. id also suggest like making a draft of the fic/chapter in something that can be pulled up on microsoft edge or something and just running it through the screen reader. not only could it help you make it more accessible, but youd find some funky grammar or somethin. and theres a layer of disconnect between the writing and you, because just reading it yourself makes you constantly remember this is your story, but having someone else read it to you makes it feel like its someone else's.

sorry for the rant i just quite literally went through this exact thing (and might need to take my own advice to get properly started on the next chapt)
