As part of a project I recently started working on, I needed some images to decorate a webpage for truly me dolls. I immediately thought of this classic ad!

The line “She’s just like you. You’re a part of history, too!” has always been really fun to me, as it brings to light my favorite way of looking at modern AG dolls - the historical characters show kids that they were an important part of history, and through modern ag dolls, kids also are reminded that they are an important part of the history being made every day!

However, there’s no really great images of this spread that I could use. (And even if they were great, since this was only in print, I’d be bumping up against the copyright of person who took the photo of the catalog, as well as that of AG. That’s fine for a tumblr post, but not for the project I’m working on!)

So... I made my own version of the banner, and I figured I’d share it!

It was a bit tricky trying to figure out the fonts, but I got there! There’s a version with a white background as well as a transparent one (though there’s a bit of a “halo” around the black lettering, as a result of the hoops i had to jump through to use that font lol). Feel free to use it yourself, no credit required :)

I just learned about these thanks to Lookin' Bratz on YouTube and immediately went to go watch the video by XCanadensis' that was recommended! They are so fascinating and I want to find out more about them, I LOVE these dolls!

Allow me to present, Delilah Fields with textured hair:

Wow this took forever! I used the same process as xCanadensis used in her YouTube video on turning Zooey Electra into a Novi Stars doll, which in my case meant braiding the hair around 101 Pipecleaners, boiling the hair, freezing the hair, waiting 2 days for everything to finally dry, unwrapping all 101 Pipecleaners, separating the curls to give the hair more volume, and using hair ties to style it into puffs. Needless to say I was TIRED after all of that, but I think the result was SO worth the effort!

Apple White Legacy Day custom

I finally got my second EAH doll. I found her on a local reselling site for 20 euros. They lost her cape and she had major glue seepage but I got to work and fixed her up!

Here is how she arrived, her bun was practically cemented in its shape

There are many methods for dealing with glue seepage. I don't have access to Oxi Clean and Goo Gone (I'm not sure they're available in my country) so I use my own method.

First, I lather the gluey parts in oil (hair or cooking oil, same thing) since oil helps dissolve glue. Learned this trick when my mom saved a neighborhood stray cat from a glue trap by soaking the poor baby in oil (she got adopted, don't worry).

Then I wash the hair with dish soap a couple times and the next step I learned from xcanadensis on YT if I remember correctly which is to mix baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and boiling water in a mug and let the hair soak for a couple hours. I did that once and her hair is now grease free.

And yeah, the glue is still inside the head but that's a problem for future me. I've done this method on a couple dolls back in 2020/2021 and the hair is still not greasy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then I curled the ends in a random pattern to match the show design

I painted the accessories with gel polish. Again, I've heard nail polish damages plastic but I've had no bad experiences with gel polish. I made her a pair of earrings and a necklace from an old bracelet.

Finally, I made the cape using farbric from an old scarf with a floral design on one side and a plain beige side. I added (some pretty uneven) stitching in a criss cross pattern like the stock photo, kinda, and some white beads. Ignore that one bead that's in the wrong place, I just realized 😩

Then I crocheted the border with the same thread I used for stitching and crocheted a gold border on the sides and bottom. I also added some beading at the bottom since it was a bit too short for my liking. The closure across the chest is made out of bows from that red ribbon, thread, white beads and it closes with a clasp on her right shoulder.

I might do a doll collection video and post it on YT if anyone would be interested so let me know. I have less than 60 dolls (I think) but they all have unique stories and sentimental value to me ✨

Jesus fucking Christ I fucking hate "The Doll Community" especially Monster High and g3 monster high, I really do...

I was just watching a video of this big name doll youtuber reporting on doll news, as they do, and they were covering the new Beetlejuice Skullector Two Pack, but what got me is they how said some pretty Anti leaning shit that was just unnecessary?

Like they literally said: "Obviously NO ONE ships Beetlejuice and Lydia so NO ONE would promote this as a romantic thing.. But if it's a wedding set that's set to release Valentines day then la de dah blah blah!"

And like? I honestly didn't know if this person was just saying this to just like, cover their own ass so THEY didn't get harassed by other tenderqueers because they were young, or if *they* genuinely believed what they were saying? Because from what I've watched from their channel, they're young and don't seem to know or care a lot about horror as genre in general? Like I don't mean to gate keep, but they're one one those obnoxious Monster High fans I made of fun of in my one post where it's like, "knows nothing about horror, just learned who Elvira is, only got into mh as a kid as the 'alternative' to their conservative ass parents who already believe pokemon is The Devil letting them experience Actual Horror and just never stopped consuming the dolls and Skullectors regardless if they're even familiar with the source material" kinda people? And yeah, that gets really annoying?

But I obviously didn't want this to be my cutting off point for watching their channel because ... Doll news?

So, I just wrote up the most, civil. neutral comment I could possibly articulate explaining how the Beetlejuice fandom's been practically built off of nothing but shipping for 36 years and how people can think whatever they want but Winona Ryder does ship it and it was quite frankly unprofessional of them to alienate Beetlebabes who might want to grab the two pack by implying there's a right way and a wrong way of interpreting the movie and the relationship between these iconic characters and they should respect the older fanbase and all the history that came before the musical?

And I was about to post it, but then I got nervous when I remembered, that I once purchased a doll from this person, which meant that they had my address at one point, which meant if they didn't like what I was saying, they could like, maybe dig it up and dox me? Or at least threaten to and I'd have cause to panic over it being like, legit or not? And I tried to brush it from my mind like nuh nuh they're cool they're cool... They're not on *that* level of Anti...

So then I just tried to check and refresh the comments to see any more overt ship bashing was taking place and of course, I just immediately find this:

... I just...I hate having such a lil' ghost face moment right now, but just like... I hate you legit fake horror fan Monster High collectors who can't appreciate horror having romantic subtext when that's the entire point yet you keep hoarding all the dolls anyway, I hate you little faggity boys with broccoli haircuts and split dyes who pressure girls into sending you nudes and the retired Mommy Vloggers who enable you, I find you extremely annoying XCanadensis, I hate you for your extremely annoying editing and intros zombiexcorn, I like you Lookin' Bratz but I hate your bratzline podcast cohost for fully admitting to doing a binge watch of all the Harry Potter movies in the franchise for "the first time ever" in fuckin' 2024 with absolutely no disclaimers or acknowledgment of the elephant in the room there and thinking that was a good idea to disclose something as quite frankly as disgusting as that and ruining what could've been a nice gothic doll chat for me and putting sour taste in my mouth about listening to the rest of your podcast...

And I especially hate that one dude with the ugly live action beauty and the beast dolls with the pink hair and the bowl cut and the glasses who for some reason keeps insisting every time she's brought up that Ghoulia Yelps can't be disabled/autistic because she's supposed to have some type of racial coding...

So I was thinking while I was down in the salon (I was both trying out my new work shoes and getting some ponies worked on) and I've noticed that personally I lose interest in "content creators" when they start to do certain things.

Like, I don't follow Chuck Tingle, XCanadensis, Mercury Stardust, or B. Dylan Hollis's content anymore, and there were a few things that triggered that.

For B. Dylan Hollis and Mercury Stardust my interest waned when their content shifted to "Buy my book." I did refollow Mercury on Insta later after she and Spouse bought a house that they're renovating and THAT is interesting to me, and the "Buy my book" content has tapered off a bit (thought she mentioned working on Book 2 so it'll probably pick up again).

Chuck and XCandensis both put me off by doing what I call "Showboating" which is likely not the right term but Cand started posting videos of her dressed in kind of weird, skimpy, "Little Girl" outfits and flouncing around the toy aisle and that kind of thing puts me off, while Chuck has started doing some weird LOOK AT ME!!! dance-run to the stage sometimes and.... Those things feel Icky to me. It's like "I'm doing this to be seen" instead of "I'm doing this because I enjoy my INSERT INTEREST HERE and want to share."

I've also noticed other people have stopped posting about these creator's content as much here when those things started happening.

I never saw XCanadensis on Tumblr.

Froggy got a TV show and I noticed that both her YouTube "likes" dropped off and I don't see her videos on Tumblr anymore, either, though I still follow Froggy on YouTube.

B. Dylan Hollis rarely shows up instead of flooding my dash with reblogs every time a new short drops.

I haven't seen a Mercury Stardust post here in ages.

As soon as I stopped directly following Chuck Tingle I haven't seen any mention of him.

Amaury Guichon (chocolate guy) got a TV show and now his videos are rarely posted here, too, even though his content didn't change at all.

It could just as much be Tumblr-at-large's habit of losing interest in things quickly (amazing chocolate sculptures are only amazing so many times until it becomes normal), but I think it might be more to do with our general dislike of advertising.

Rainbow High Eye Guide / May 2023

Out of the bat, I'd like you to know that I wrote this guide "from the shoulders of giants" (macaron-monster and this redditor), so some of the grouping choices are based on their work, while others were made on my own findings. Also, I group the dolls by eye colour and not sculpt/series and I don't own all dolls.

i hate not being able to make friends in the real world, too many insecurities and most people just, don't know we exist.

so hey! anyone got friendship applications? :D

so here's a little bit about us:

we are a did autistic system with suspected ocpd (think super organized perfectionist) our current headcount is 62 (wowza!)

outside the internet we are very boring, we work full time in a call centre (trying to get out but job market sucks yk) and we live with our fiancee so majority of our free time is spent hanging out with her. we frequently play games like bang dream and project sekai, read the occasional creepypasta, are super into writing lists of all the things we could buy in the future and we draw a lot.

cartoons and anime are something that mean a lot to us, yk how escapism be, and our special interest is my little pony. currently we are watching steven universe with our fiancee and it's great! we love it. we are very fictive and factive heavy (though are private about factives) not entirely sure why, ames like to say it's because our brain is lazy.

we are bodily 22, and to us gender literally doesn't exist. our host is a trans boy, but we have nonbinary and others and a bunch of other boys and girls - to the point where any conversation about gender is very confusing.

oh! and we tend to watch a lot of youtube. some of our all time favourites are Pixielocks, xCanadensis, Chuckle Sandwich, lulaloopsey, Vylet Pony, emilia fart, strawberry sprite, cybr.grl, Niki Nihachu, Dan and Phil + honestly so much more.

I wanted give Fairie Garden a follow-up post to show her in better lighting than she got last night. Here she is with a little forest friend (Zelfs 'Birchy'):

I know she's a bit fish-eyed, but I've decided she's just looking at magical things the rest of use can't see XD

And here she is sans fidget features. Turns out there's an honest to goodness fashion doll beneath all that slow-rise foam! With extremely nice quality nylon hair, no less. I popped an old Barbie skirt I thought would look cute on over her top. I probably won't display her this way--I think the fidgets are part of her charm--but it's nice to have the option.

FG is similar in size to Rainbow High dolls, but there are a lot of differences in their various proportions. I haven't tried to see if they can share clothing.

This doll has been haunting my wishlist for months. I began to be anxious I wouldn't be able to acquire her after hearing the Fidgie Friends brand was discontinued, but yesterday when I noticed she'd been marked down to $9.98 on both Amazon and Walmart, I knew it was time. I'm so glad she's finally here!

Although I'm all in favor of the concept behind Fidgie Friends --combining sensory toys with dolls is a brilliant idea--in general I find their largely food-based designs extremely unappealing. I have a lot of autism-y food texture issues that make even non-edible food shaped toys a bit triggering for me. But I love fairies, and mushrooms, and although I suppose mushrooms technically can count as food, Amanita muscaria in particular most definitely does not, so for whatever reason in this instance my weird brain does not object.

All of which is to say--I know these might initially be considered odd, even off-putting dolls, especially for fashion dolls, but I think they are delightfully unique and worth at least taking a look at before they're gone for good. Fairie Garden is such a fun, quirky addition to my collection, I honestly think I'd regret it if I'd missed her.

Lastly! before I wrap up this already overly-long post, I wanted to include this extremely thorough review of FG that xCanadensis posted last fall, which was the inception point for my interest in this doll.
