It Is Time For 'Baddie Hibernation'
Hey babes we have 3 months before the summer! It is time to tighten up! This is the time to work on your physical and mental I know we all want to be hot girls this summer so now is the time to prioritize ourselves!
Routines
♡ Routines are super important. they are your key to success and living an organized life. If you have not created a routine already I created a blog post on how to create a productive routine. This is the time to stick to your routines in the morning and night and adjust them if needed.
Physical
♡ Hygiene. Consistency is key for your facial care routine to work so be consistent in applying all your products. If you aren't seeing results with a certain product you have been using for over 3 months maybe try and find a better product. I recommend using a gua sha three times a week there are so many benefits in using a gua sha blog post coming soon! Don’t just focus on your facial care focus also on your body care use African exfoliating net sponges, shave regularly, apply lotions and body oils, and use feet masks to peel dead skin.
♡ Diet. For my girlies who are on a weight loss journey and want to be snatched before summer, it is time to be dedicated to sticking to your diet. I don’t have any specific diets to recommend do what works for you. If you struggle with Binge Eating Disorder like me I have a book that I can recommend that will help you work on your ED and also help you lose weight “The Binge Code�� by Allison Kerr and Richard Kerr. This book has been a game-changer for me! For my babes who aren't focused on weight loss, it is still important to try and eat healthier try including a variety of whole foods into your diet and drink waterrr!!! Water is so good for us from our skin to our digestive system try and drink at least 50oz but aim for 100oz of water daily.
♡ Movement. Try and include some sort of movement daily we must move our bodies daily. Figure out what type of exercise you like walking is very simple and costs absolutely nothing. Start small with 10 minutes of outdoor walking daily. Natural light is so beneficial for our mental health and mood. Yoga and pilates are such amazing slow and impactful forms of exercise. I've been including yoga in my nighttime routine there are so many channels and videos on YouTube you can follow. There are so many other forms of exercise you can try some free and some that cost money.
♡ Supplements. Help and maintain our overall health they can also help with our daily requirements of essential nutrients. I will be listing a few supplements below <333
Multivitamin. Find a reputable multivitamin and take it daily or as instructed. Multivitamins can boost energy and give you vitamins and minerals you might be deficient in.
Magnesium. Improves mood, sleep, exercise performance, regulates blood sugar, and so much more. Magnesium is overlooked by many but so beneficial for us. I've been seeing the bedtime magnesium mocktail I have yet to try but I plan to.
Omega 3(fish oil). Helps with typical brain and eye development. It can fight inflammation and help prevent heart disease and the decline of brain function.
Vitamin D. A lot of us during the winter time have a deficiency in vitamin D because the sun is not out a lot so vitamin D supplements are a must-have they help with regulating mood, reducing depression, healthy bones, and so many other amazing benefits.
Vitamin B Complex. Helps boost energy levels, brain function, digestion, and cell health. There are so many other benefits.
Probiotics. Helps improve gut health, puts healthy bacteria into our gut that in turn helps our digestive system, and inflammation, and can even help aide your weightless journey.
Mental
♡ Sleep. Our bodies function so much better when we are getting a good amount of sleep. You think clearly and your mood is better. Try and set a bedtime for yourself and stick to it. I had to sleep train myself at the beginning of the semester it was so harddd but I'm reaping the benefits now I have energy during the day, my mood is better in the morning, and my brain functions better during the day.
♡ Journaling. We have a lot of emotions that we carry throughout the day and it is important that we let them out and journaling is the best way to do so. I have three journals. One journal is for my emotions, another for gratitude journaling which I highly recommend you get into, and finally my last journal for shadow work. You do not need to have three journals but I like to have everything separate it helps me.
♡ Book. I love reading and listening to self-help books. We all have issues that we need to fix and thankfully we have so many self-help books dedicated to so many different issues people face on a daily. I have so many recommendations I’ll list below.

I've dealt with my issues before and I used better help I found the best therapist who helped me through so much. I love the way they allow you to choose your therapist. I recommend that you use better help. For my NYC teenagers between the ages of 13-17, there is a website called talk space that offers free online therapy for NYC teens NO REFERRAL IS NEEDED. If I find more websites that offer free therapy for other teens around the world I will let you all know<3.

My goodness. I let too much time lapse in between posts. Life gets the better of me. And so does adhd. But no matter where or when we are in life, nutrition is a constant center.
Especially nutrition as we age. Especially if you happen to have female hormones while you do that aging.
So let’s start to talk about Nutrition in relationship to our aging bodies and their changing needs.
In the last month, I’ve gotten back on that juicing wagon. I’ve successfully made a fresh juice every single day for the last month. If you have local farmers or food pantries in your area- theyre a great resource.
Now if you’re like me and you happen to be anywhere from 35-45 years of age and have female anatomy, you may very well start to experience the signs and symptoms of peri menopause.
thanks to TikTok, I’ve learned a lot about this mysterious phenomenon that happens years BEFORE actual menopause. Not every species experiences menopause either- we’re cool like that. But people have discussed all sorts of symptoms like itchy ears, brain fog, night sweats, muscle tension, changes in cycle length, and joint pain JUST TO NAME A FEW. A few. Doesnt that sound fun???
I’m sorry but I refuse to accept that “this is just what happens.” Yes, you should talk to your doctor about anything that concerns you and always make sure any type of change, nutritionally or otherwise, is a safe choice for your body and your health. Always talk to your healthcare provider before making changes. Everybody is different.
But since Itchy Ears are not something I want, I got the all clear and started making some changes to my diet. So what do they say you should consume to help mitigate these symptoms? Here are a few things Ive started doing.
I have introduced vitamin D into my life as well as magnesium. Be it in tincture, powder, or lotion, i am making an effort to regularly consume vitamin D. You can even get your vitamin D level checked at the doctor. remember that vitamin D is a critical player in the absorption of calcium for strong bones. and magnesium is fantastic for promoting mood regulation, bone health, and muscle cramps. Magnesium comes in sprays, lotions, and supplements of all kinds.
But you know who’s really been the star of the show? Beets. Yes. Not just a fictitious band on the 90s cartoon Doug, beets are loaded with iron.
Did you know, “Menopause can significantly impact a woman's heart health, increasing her risk for cardiovascular disease. This is primarily due to the decline in estrogen levels after menopause, which can affect blood vessels, cholesterol, and blood pressure.”
BECAUSE I DIDN’T. Well sh*t. That sounds scary doesn’t it? But fear not! We’ve got beets.
According to https://www.healthshots.com/healthy-eating/nutrition/beetroot-juice-for-menopause/amp. “Beetroot juice is a rich source of nitrates that help widen and dilate the arteries and veins in the cardiovascular system. When the blood can flow easily through our heart to our entire body, the stress on the heart naturally reduces. The outcome of drinking beetroot juice persistently has more long-term benefits on a woman’s heart health in comparison to hormone replacement therapy which only shows effects during the first few years of menopause. Overtime, relying more on hormone therapy can increase the risk of cancer and stroke.”
Not to mention the phytoestrogens in beet root may help regulate hormone levels, potentially helping to ease symptoms like hot flashes. 
The other part of this journey for me is tackling Cortisol. I recognized I was puffy & part of that could have been cortisol because lord knows I’m an anxious human. Do a quick search and you’ll see that high cortisol in the body can manifest as weight gain in the face and body, low libido, muscle weakness , fatigue, and high blood pressure.
The vitamin C in beetroot could regulate an imbalance of the stress hormone cortisol. Beetroot is high in vitamin C, which can lower cortisol levels and restore balance. Regularly consuming beetroot can be a safe and natural way for your body to absorb some of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of vitamin C.
Awesome. So whats a good way to consume beet juice? One of the simplest juice recipes is the ABC- Apple Beet Carrot. Beets have an earthy taste to them and apples are an excellent way to help balance flavors. Citrus like lemon or orange is also a great addition to help brighten up the flavor and balance those earthy notes. Just remember to Peel your citrus- juicing the skins of lemons will make everything taste horribly bitter.

I have a lot of bloating going on right now. It seems to happen a lot before my cycle. Any recommendations?
Hello!
So from a purely physical perspective :
Are you eliminating properly ? (Do you go everyday?) - If not, focus on having regular bowel movements everyday and the bloating could subside just with that. Some things you can do for that are : Move everyday (could be gentle movements such as yoga, pilates, or even just walking), Drink enough water for your body weight, Eat more protein, as well as fiber to facilitate estrogen detox and to flush things out, and check your stomach acid levels, if they’re low you might want to try digestive bitters to facilitate the digestion process (Organic Olivia has a nice one in spray format).
I also recommend checking if you’re not magnesium deficient, as this mineral plays an important role in digestion, and in our body in general. Most people are deficient in Magnesium. If you do choose to supplement with it, I recommend the sunwarrior brand, its liquid and quite bitter, but its the best one ive tried composition wise!
Aside from that, here are some herbal teas that can help with bloating : Ginger & Mint, Dandelion root, Spearmint or Peppermint, Rose petal & Hibiscus.
Deep belly breathing exercises, Belly massages, and Foot massages to stimulate MMC (migrating motor complex) can all be great additions to your routine 🫶🏽.
Now from an emotional / mental perspective :
Bloating can occur when we are resisting something, bottling up emotions, or experiencing fear or anxiety. It’s our body’s way of trying to get our attention, urging us to get out of our heads and into our bodies, our emotions : to feel instead of analyze or strategize.
You might greatly benefit from journaling (no filter, write everything that comes up or that has been on your mind), mindfulness (sit with yourself and feel what comes up, do not resist, do not analyze, simply be present with yourself), Prayer (casting the burden on a Power Higher than you is liberating, knowing that you are ultimately seen and taken care of, regardless of what the circumstances are currently looking like).
If you’re up to do a bit of reading, I highly recommend these books : The emotion code by Dr Bradley Nelson, and Your body’s telling you : love yourself by Lise Bourbeau.

time for a reef tank update !!! not the most glamorous shot but i’ve got a lot on my plate today so it’s what you’re getting lol

everything is going smoothly so far !!

finally set up the dosing pumps yesterday! current daily supplement regime is 1ml each of brightwell aquatics’ NanoCode A+B (staggered to prevent precipitation as they react with eachother), 1ml of brightwell KoralColor, and 5ml daily of a 1:1 mix of brightwell’s ZooPlanktos-M and PhytoChrom plankton suspensions, with the dose spread out equally over the entire 24hr period. ideally i would have done less, but this pump system has a minimum dose amount that i had to work around, and it’s all in such small increments that i doubt it will contribute too much to the bioload. these are the same supplement volumes i’ve been using before, but now dosed at a specific time each day and measured out by the pump rather than by me eyeballing with a grad cylinder ^^; going to see how alkalinity/calcium/magnesium levels shake out after a few days of the new setup and then modify from there. I’m also still manually dosing brightwell Restor (had to choose between this and the koralcolor as the dosing pump system only has four bottles, i’ve only got 2/3rds of my 250ml bottle of restor left as the koralcolor was a more recent purchase) and red sea reef energy AB+ (needs to be refrigerated, so wouldn’t work with the dosing pump), and i’ve got bottles of brightwell borochrom, liquid reef, and coralline accelerator that i bought back when i first started the tank up to cover all my bases but haven’t played with yet as i’ve been trying to take things slow on the dosing front. the borochrom i likely won’t be touching until i can find a boron testing kit that’s at least somewhat reliable before i do anything with it since it’s not something we have the capacity to test for in the lab at work.

corals are all overall looking good! the grinch porites has been looking a tad pale lately and might benefit from relocation, but i just did a water change yesterday so i’ll leave it be for now to see if that helps it perk up any… my other sps (rainbow pocillopora) is doing fantastic so i don’t think it’s water chemistry related, could be light/flow or nutrients. this frag gets covered in brown film algae despite my best efforts on a regular basis, so that probably isn’t helping -_-

the aiptasia on the pink bloomer zoa frag came back once again, so while i had the pump and heater shut off for the water change yesterday i blasted them with some aiptasia-x again. it was all gone by this morning, you can still see a little bit of white residue but i caught the shrimps picking at it last night ? so maybe they cleaned it up because i applied it very liberally. this frag has been thru the wringer and has had aips on it for the entire time, even after a really strong peroxide dip for GHA and physically scraping off all the anemones i could get to with a toothpick and blasting the remnants off with tap water in the sink immediately after, they just keep coming back… the good news is that the zoas are equally hardy. they seem mostly unbothered by the aips, but they were starting to get big enough to sting my purple death palys and that little baby disco mushroom so they had to go.
no pics, but i did finally lose that enchanted finger sinularia… it was never especially robust the entire time i’ve had it, but it never showed any signs of dying either. woke up a couple days ago to it gray and decaying, though, so i siphoned out everything i could get and the rest of the frag got chucked. bit of a shame, but i was honestly never a huge fan of it, mostly because of how sickly it always looked — i miss my toxic green capnella and the blue cespitularia that i lost during the major tank crash much much more :(



i’ve got another order in the works though — still in talks with ASD about the inverts, i’d tried to get some anemone shrimp as well but they had some issues so we’re waiting on them to get more livestock in. got my corals locked in in the meantime, though! aside from a handful of zoas still on my wishlist, this will probably be it for frags unless something major happens. or i finally snap and set up another tank. we’ll see…

My mom keeps a lot of nutritional supplements around and lets everyone take what they please, which is really nice because it means I’m easily able to keep my C and D reliably topped up despite it being winter.
Yesterday, I noticed there was a bottle of iron pills, and never having taken iron supplements before and enticed by the prospect of Finding The Vitamin, I took one.
Now, this specific iron supplement contained a few other things. A little bit of C, B6, B12, a smidge of copper; all things I thought and still think were fine and would benefit me. In my experience, it’s pretty much impossible to accidentally overdo it with C in the winter because fruit is a smaller-than-ideal part of my diet AND it’s cold and flu season, and these pills only had a little. Excess B gets urinated out, and there was barely any copper in the mix at all.
HOWEVER, they also contained some sort of calming substance, which claimed to “reduce feelings of anxiety without causing drowsiness.” And while the sensation is definitely fading a little, goddamn, I wasn’t expecting one little pill to make me feel more relaxed than I have in recent memory. Like, I’m one cup of coffee and 100mg of vivance in, yet this feeling I have right now is like a “lite” version of the one I’d get when I got anxiety relief acupuncture as a child. I’m not sure whether I should be concerned or impressed by this. I’m also 99% sure in hindsight that pill was intended for women going through hormonal issues, and that’s why it had the calming juice in it; to help with the mood swings.
And honestly, oddly, this is making me want to try THC, because I’d deadass forgotten that drug-induced relaxation, or maybe just relaxation in general, was a feeling that existed.
Of course, though, I should probably not take that pill ever again, lmao. It does NOT have anything actually hormonal in it, I checked. I just… was not expecting them to legitimately be Like This. I thought it was like how magnesium also claims to induce calm, but in practice does so with all the potency of a field mouse projectile pissing into a roaring industrial coal furnace. But no, this shit’s the real deal. Huh.

Well I am 3 doses of 250mg of magnesium in and the screaming bone pain in my hands and wrists has mostly stopped.

There are meds designed specifically to pull the extra phosphorus and calcium back out of your blood when your kidneys are struggling... But I would have to fight with a doctor about it for 3 months first. Magnesium supplements are 20$ at walmart and no one can stop me. They have the added benefit of helping with the muscle cramps/tension and potential high blood pressure from being over hydrated.
Like I am a little sore but it no longer feels like all the bones in my forearm are about to break when I lift them under their own weight... so there's that, and it's been like 2 days.
See I really did get to this well before it got entirely out of hand like last time :/
And now I know from the progression of symptoms and what made it worse that the root cause is my kidneys. Rather than like, knowing my blood minerals are way off but no knowing why.
I'm pretty sure that once the extra phosphorus is gone the remaining gout will slowly resolve and I can at least focus on fixing it once high uric acid levels aren't helping to remove the extra minerals.
The pain in my muscles themselves is fully gone, the burn is gone, the pain in my connective tissue in most of my joints is gone, and the deep horrid bruising from the first two cat bites is gone.
Idk why Pumpkin takes me moving slowly and like I am in pain as a signal he should be really rough with me and bite me a lot but he's kind of a dick.
Anyway the point is I am not in screaming pain at all times anymore.

stuff my doctor told me:
i should take magnesium glycinate, riboflavin, and CoQ10
magnesium glycinate should be taken at bedtime
didn't recommend feverfew for me, can't remember why
if these supplements don't help, the next step is prescription meds which include Nortriptyline, Topamax, or Emgality
Nortriptyline is an anti-depressant, if you're already on an anti-depressant then don't take this
Topamax is an anti-seizure med also used to prevent migraines. it can make birth control pills less effective
Emgality is administered once a month with a self-administered shot (something like an epi pen). this is what my doctor recommended I take if the supplements don't work. it specifically targets the migraine receptor, so it has very few side effects

Recommended Supplements for Migraine Prevention Dietary supplements are commonly used for the prevention of migraine. The recommended supplements have all been studied and found to be effective in the prevention of migraine. If you are pregnant or have other medical conditions, please check with your physician about whether you should take these.
Magnesium
Mechanism: Important in energy production, muscle and nerve function, and may play a role in cortical spreading depression, which is an underlying migraine mechanism.
Evidence: Two large randomized controlled trials found magnesium to be beneficial for migraine prevention.
Dose: 600mg per day. Some people prefer to start at a lower dose to ensure tolerability. Formulations include magnesium oxide, magnesium sulfate, magnesium citrate (better absorbed than oxide or sulfate), and magnesium glycinate (less likely to cause diarrhea than other formulations)
Side effects: May cause soft stools or diarrhea, but could help constipation.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
Mechanism: Involved in mitochondrial energy production, which may play a role in migraine
Evidence: Five clinical trials, including one large randomized controlled trial, have shown positive effect on migraine.
Dose: 400mg per day
Side effects: Turns urine bright yellow/orange and may cause diarrhea.
Feverfew
Mechanism: Parthenolide, the active ingredient, may prevent migraine through its vascular smooth relaxation and anti-inflammatory properties.
Evidence: Four out of six studies showed benefit for migraine prevention
Dose: 50-300mg twice daily
Side effects: Nausea, bloating, and mouth ulcers. Feverfew can cause uterine contractions and is not recommended during pregnancy.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
Mechanism: Involved in energy production and helps maintain mitochondrial integrity.
Evidence: Two randomized controlled trials showed benefit over placebo.
Dose: 300mg daily (can be split into 150mg twice a day)
Side effects: Insomnia, fatigue, nausea, or diarrhea.
Other Supplements Butterbur demonstrated benefit for migraine in two large randomized controlled studies; however; preparations may contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids which are toxic to the liver. Due to safety concerns, butterbur was removed from the market in Europe and is currently not recommended. Melatonin and the combination of folic acid/B6/B12 have mixed results for migraine prevention.

Wellness is important to Karlie Kloss: as a spokeswoman for Adidas and an investor in the tech company Therabody, the supermodel has been a longtime advocate of self-care. Now, she’s hopping on the supplement craze as the face of Thorne’s new Find Your Way campaign.
Kloss appears in stills and video spots promoting the brand’s line of science-driven products. Here, she speaks with WWD about the campaign and how supplements are a key component of her wellness routine.
WWD: Where did your interest in wellness originate both as an investor and as a consumer?
Karlie Kloss: As an investor, I look at it through the lens of ‘How can I invest in something that’s better for you or for the planet?’ That has certainly been a framework that I think about. My dad is a doctor, so I think I’ve always loved the science lens on wellness. That’s a huge part of why I have so much respect and admiration for the Thorne brand, because it’s really the highest integrity ingredients. I’m also a super curious person. I love learning about new products, especially things that are trying to help people live healthier, better lives.
WWD: How did supplements become part of your wellness routine?
K.K.: I was first introduced to Thorne through a nutritionist I worked with years ago because I was feeling super depleted. That really set me on a path of learning about nutrition as a whole. It’s not about how I look at all, it’s really about how I feel and how I can bring energy to all that I’m doing, whether it’s the people in my life that I’m taking care of or just having energy to exercise so that I can push myself to keep getting stronger. It’s really a practice of self-care.
WWD: Which Thorne supplements do you use?
K.K.: Thorne has two products that are really special called Memoractiv and PharmaGABA. Those are in my rotation and at night I always take magnesium. They have a really great Magnesium Bisglycinate, which is really great to calm down before bed.
WWD: How do you feel these supplements benefit you?
K.K.: The Memoractiv is really special because improves your brain function and eye health and has a bunch of wonderful ingredients in it, including ashwagandha. That one I feel is a great energy pick me up, it has a little caffeine in it too, so I’m careful not to take it too late in the day. I also always have Thorne’s Prebiotic disks in my bag or whenever I’m traveling. It’s a tiny little pouch that you just pour into a glass of water. It’s delicious and it’s a super easy health hack. All of us have so much that we’re juggling every single day, so the more seamless and high impact your products can be, the better, and that’s certainly what I look for as a consumer, as an investor and as a mom as well.
WWD: Your Kode With Klossy camp is briefly featured in the Thorne campaign. How does it feel knowing that the program celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2024?
K.K.: It’s surreal. We’ve had more than 10,000 young women and gender expansive teens in our programs over the past nine years. We have 3,000 young people in our in our classrooms this summer. We have camps across the country and around the world and we have students from more than 90 countries in our classrooms. 78% of our alumni who are in college go on to major or minor in computer science. It makes me so proud to see our community continue to grow in so many ways.
