Jude~
Here’s our list of things that might get us fakeclaimed:
We don’t hear each other.
When we tell doctors we have alters they’re always like “so you hear voices” and I’m like woah woah woah when did I say that?
Only one of us is conscious at a time.
I’ve seen endos talking about this but not actual systems so it makes US feel like we are faking. We aren’t tho, I don’t know if this just isn’t common or if people just aren’t talking about it.
One of our frequent fronters is an introject.
It’s me, and Jude isn’t my sources name, I just use it externally because I find it embarrassing for people to know that the character I write fanfic about is me actually.
It’s very rare for our switches to be visible.
As an estimate, I’d say 95% of our switches either happen in the blink of an eye, are gradual and drawn out over hours, or occur covertly while consuming media.
We don’t have amnesia.
yes, I know its not a part of osdd1b. But I rarely, if ever, see representation of systems that doesn’t include or focus on amnesia.
We have decent/close relationships with our parents.
They didn’t do very much, if anything, that I’m aware of at least, to hurt us. That’s not where this comes from.
We don’t have roles.
When our brain wants to switch us, it does, sometimes based on specific triggers but often randomly. We all are just here.

Note
Any SP folder ideas for someone where folders like roles (too many hyperspecific roles) or introjects (too many sources & usually only 1 or 2 per source) doesn't work much? We have been dabbling in possibly making a hierarchy folder since we're hierarchical, but all we have right now are subsystems (group kind) & birthdays.
Also any ideas for making it look nice and best way to put things in what order? I know I've seen some have something like
Information Folder: SystemInfo, AlterInfo
Extras Folder: Disorders
Interaction Folder: Free to Interact, Only Interact if We Initiate First
And so forth.
I've created a layout with everything I could think of that might be useful for organization. I know you mentioned roles/sources not working well but I kept those in incase anyone else would find it useful to have.
I'm not entirely sure about the disorders folder as I would assume that's just a role thing for alters that hold the disorders. If there's anything I missed that you can't figure out how to add from this design let me know.
I wasn't sure how to portray different layers of folders so I hope these arrows make sense to show what would go in what folder. Also the folders will not be in that order when you make them as I didn't alphabetize them here. I wasn't sure how you would design the folders so feel free to use symbols, numbers, letters, emojies, etc to get them in an order you like.

Shipping, plurality and squick explanations under the cut.
Our ships: We are a polyshipper and a multishipper. We ship multiple characters together in the same context, in the same relationship, in the same fics etc.
A "ship" for us does not equal in OTP or an ideal relationship. We use the word "ship" to denote any romantic or sexual relationship between two characters, even when that relationship is unhealthy, toxic, twisted, and bad for one or both participants. Ships are a narrative tool, not something aspirational.
Tumblr media
Plurality: We are a plural system– many people living together in one body. We have been plural since we were children, and we have been blogging about our plurality for 15+ years.
Please do  not use psychiatric or pathologizing terminology for our plurality. We do not refer to ourselves with terms like DID, alter, or introject, and our system members do not have defined roles.
Our preferred terminology is: plural, system member, and fictive.
System members tend to sign or tag posts and refer to one another with a two emoji 'signature' rather than a name. Unsigned posts are understood to be a product of multiple members or a joint consensus.
Tumblr media
squicks / tropes we prefer to avoid
non-con of any kind (but especially underage non-con and non-con incest)
pregnancy & babies (especially as the joyful and expected result of a romantic hetero-presenting relationship)
nonbinary or trans characters deciding it's better for them to perform their assigned gender at birth
Characters submitting to the will of a lawful aligned god.
Parental control and discipline being shown as narratively positive and correct
characters giving up their careers and aspirations and 'settling down' when they fall in love
prophecies that are unavoidable and/or narratively depicted as inherently good and just
characters following the life-path set out for them by their parents/following in their parents footsteps
filial duty and filial piety in general
pretty much anything to do with traditional family structures, gender roles, and lawful aligned religion, honestly
wing whump / characters having their monstrous or inhuman traits harmed
monstrous or inhuman characters becoming human (especially when presented as positive)
soul destruction / soul death
characters being metaphysically kept apart for all time
any kind of 'conversion therapy' or metaphorical conversion therapy (especially being portrayed as positive)

we have bipolar, ocpd and anxiety + our experience of plurality is due to early childhood trauma, although we may make occasional rants about the negative symptoms and mental illness we experience - it does not define us. we are more than our mental illness!
with our blog we strive to uphold the message of be yourself, be cringe and be kind! every individual is deserving of human kindness and there's nothing cooler you can do than be unapologetically yourself!
Tumblr media

Welcome to Steaming System Takes!
This blog was inspired by @/pipinghot-systemtakes. However, we are not associated with that blog in any way. We made this blog to combat the lack of proper structure pipinghot-systemtakes has in terms of sorting through harmful submissions, and offer this community a place to share their hot takes without having to worry about coming across harmful messages and/or misinformation.
Tumblr media
What do we consider to be harmful?
To us, harmful submissions include submissions that promote non-traumagenic systems, have paranoia inducing messages and wording, and anything that contains any form of misinformation. This definition of the word "harmful" is rather broad, and we will be paying close attention to what each submission says to ensure nothing slips through the cracks. If need be, we have people outside of our system we can reach out to for second opinions.
Will we be accepting other mods in the future?
Yes, we will! If this blog gets to a point where we're receiving more asks than we can handle, we will open up mod applications to make sure we don't slip up and let something through that should not be posted.
Will we be posting submissions that we don't agree with?
For the most part, yes. The only exception to this is, once again, anything that's genuinely harmful or contains misinformation. We will not be sharing any of our personal opinions of any syscourse topic on this blog, only pin-boarding other people's opinions anonymously. This blog is meant for others to have a safe space to share their thoughts, not for us to share our own. In addition to that, we believe that most syscourse topics should have all sides shared to ensure that anyone looking into the issue can make a properly informed opinion on it. Above all else, that is our goal.
Something to note: If a submission is worded in a way that we can't understand, we won't post it just to be safe. If you notice that your hot take isn't being posted after a little while, feel free to submit it again with different wording!
Tumblr media
Who can interact with our blog?
Despite us not sharing our opinions on this blog, we do have a DNI list. This includes endogenics/willowgenics/tulpas and their supporters, transID and radqueers, and anyone who claims RAMCOA isn't real.
We accept anyone with any disorder here. This blog is NPD, BPD, schizophrenic, psychosis, and mood disorder friendly. Anyone who villainizes these disorders is NOT welcome here.
Tumblr media
Meet our current mods!
Since this blog is currently only being run by one system, our mod team consists of a few of our current/frequent fronters.
Mod Z - Also known as: Zack
Zack Foster introject, He/It pronouns, tag signoff: "mod z"

hi there! we're a p-did system, and figured it might be nice to try and find a sense of community somewhere, so why not try here? we've had suspicions for a while but consistently gaslit ourselves into thinking otherwise– this is our first time accepting that this in fact a likely reality and are self identifying as plural until we can get in to see a psych to confirm. we use i/me and we/us rather interchangeably for the most part and to the best of my knowledge as the host we're all okay with they/them pronouns but some of us have other pronouns we also use! now, a few rules or general topics to cover real quick:
• we are not here to engage in syscourse, we aren't professionals or doctors, it's simply not our place.
• we do not mind (pro)endos interacting, we have chosen to remain neutral on this stance as, again, we are not professionals or doctors, not our place.
• we don't tolerate hate speech or bullying, if anyone is commenting such things on our posts they will be swiftly blocked.
• we would prefer that no one under the age of 16 (bodily) interacts in dms or anything unless they need some help or support, we are 19 bodily, so we just want everyone to be safe! any ages are welcome on this page, however almost all of us do swear and have a dark sense of humor, so keep this in mind!
• we love introjects/fictives! for who we know of rn, a lot of our system is fictives, not everyone to be clear, but we've always found great comfort in different forms of media, so we assume our brain split some of the characters we resonated with the most and still continues to do so sometimes!
with all of that out of that out of the way, a brief intro to the alters as we know ourselves!
FIZZ
they/them, key-host (rarely leaves front, most others blend with or co-host with me), potential helluva boss fictive but this is unclear, i may have just stolen my name from it!
CONNOR
he/him/they/them, emotional protector, fronts occasionally, mostly during times of stress, but sometimes just when he wants to. dear evan hansen fictive.
RIFF
he/him/they/them, protector, possible gatekeeper, second most frequent fronter so far, has a typing quirk, generally pretty caring but can definitely be stubborn and sarcastic. west side story fictive.
LESTAT
he/him/they/them, role unclear, hasn't fronted for a while, tends to use french terms and a fancier vocabulary. iwtv fictive.
DALE
he/him/they/them, role unclear, rarely fronts, not very confident but extremely sweet, wants the best for everybody. newsreader fictive.
V1
they/them/it/its, persecutor, co-con frequently but unlikely to fully front, harsh, does not like others, does not care to communicate with others. they have not shared their name, thus the placeholder name of V1.
ROSALIE / V2
she/her/they/them, possible caretaker, she doesn't front frequently, we don't know much about her, very sweet and motherly. name is assumed.
V3
she/her/they/them, role unclear, pretty chill personality from what we know, hasn't fronted much, first one to inspire me to make a picrew for her, hoping to have a name soon.
P
she/her/they/them, little – role unclear, we do not plan to share too much info on her, she fronts occasionally, and absolutely loves jellyfish and ham.
ART
he/him/they/them, role not yet discovered, he's relatively new, we think he split due to recent events that caused significant duress, but he's shown up when the paranoia hits some. pretty chill so far, but extremely tired. challengers fictive.
we follow from @artsracquet !
that's about all we have for right now, but we hope to meet some fellow plurals and cannot wait to find some community here!

Note
i dont really know anything abt systems and i am not one myself
i was under the assumption that the . formation??? of a system can only occur due to childhood trauma but past that point anything goes.
that's probably wrong but idk where to get actual information on this bc i genuinely know nothing
Welcome to systemhood which is the most under-researched thing ever. It can be formed in many different was, most commonly from childhood trauma. Due to how under researched systems are, it’s certainly difficult to find info of them. Your best bet is just learning from systems themselves and their personal experiences. It’s different for ALL systems, so you cant rely solely on One (1) system to tell you the info. I’ll share what I know though!!
I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL IN ANY WAY AT ALL, I AM JUST SHARING KNOWLEDGE IVE BEEN GIVEN THROUGHOUT THE SPAN OF FIVE YEARS OF RESEARCHING AND LEARNING!!! Anyone (in GOOD FAITH) is free to correct me if i say anything wrong. I am on mobile (and only just woke up) so i cant provide real evidence as im speaking
(Didn’t expect to say so much but i did to the point i need a Read More bracket OOPS lmao)
The most well known systems as of now are CDD (complex dissociative disorder) systems, such as DID (dissociative identity disorder), OSDD (other specified identity disorder) and one other i cannot remember the name for. These ones are frequently (NOT ALWAYS) formed from trauma, typically at a young age and often repetitive or severe
At a very young age, your brain is often split in several parts as it is developing. Often why children tend to switch moods very quickly. As you grow up, your brain slowly pieces itself together into your true personality, however, trauma can cause your brain to remain fragmented, leaving those fragments into being parts/alters/headmates. This is a coping mechanism created by the brain so certain parts can handle unsafe situations
Aside from CDDs, there’s two terms, traumagenic and endogenic. Traumagenic is self explanatory and CDDs will typically fall under there. Endogenic is a umbrella term of MANY formations of systemhod. Spiritual, natural (it just happened some day), willogenic (willed into existence on purpose) and so much more. Some can be both, traumaendo, mixed-origin etc! CDDs can even be endogenic in some way too :]
You can have a trauma formed system, but also have willogenic headmates! You can have a naturally formed system, but also have trauma formed headmates! Hell, some systems will not even know their origin and that’s okay!!!! You do not need a label for your system!!
Both terms were coined by a traumagenic system i believe??? Who is also pro-endogenic, so anyone who is antiendo using those terms, do remember that (:3
——————————————
Alters/headmates/parts can be different just as much as systems can be. Some can just be emotional states, some can be voices, some can be fragments, some can be completely unique and (mostly) complete individuals. Even in one system alone, alters can differ between all of these! Some systems can only have 2 headmates, some have some between 10-30, some can have 100+, some can even have 1000+
There are also alters that are called introjects, who are formed from a certain someone/something (very often out of their control). They can be a factive (formed from a real life person), fictive (formed from a fictional character), songtive (formed from a song) and soooo much more!!! Some can even be mixed, some can have more than one source!
A common misconception is that introjects will form from comforting sources, or sources the system holds really closely, but quite a lot of systems actually have introjects from things they hate, or hell, are even triggered by. Introjects are very often formed from things they dont want to be formed from, and do not act the exact same way as their sources
Proof? We have a fictive of a shapeshifter from an among us series. Source is a heartless and evil killer who manipulates people. Our fictive though? Genuine sweetheart, often shy and anxious but loves her sourcemates so very much! Hell, Juli (💎) is with me right now and is a good example. Her source (julian arcane odyssey) is a genuine asshole with extremely high ego and brags to hell and back about his accomplishments. Juli here is just a girl trying to live and play games while being silly with her QPP and her friends!
That being said though, some introjects WILL act almost exactly like their sources, and this is okay!!! Even those split from absolute asshole of a person. Systemhood is often a part of healing, and that includes from individual headmates too. Recovery is different for all headmates and systems and it’s best to let them figure out how they should handle their struggles and the such
——————————————
Systemhood is extremely complex, it differs from system to system, and headmate to headmate. Some prefer plural or collective, some prefer parts, headmates, alters, personalities. Some CDDs will even prefer MPD (multiple personality disorder) [known to being an outdated term] instead of DID or OSDD and that’s okay!!
Everyone will have divided opinions over how systemhood works, but the MOST IMPORTANT thing to understand is, it’s NEVER black and white, there will ALWAYS be nuance, and honestly my #1 thing to remember is: if it’s in good faith, live and let live
Sharing terminology isn’t stealing. Sharing resources isn’t stealing. It’s called SHARING, and everyone deserves resources that can help understand themselves better and live an easier and better life. It’s good to interact with a diverse amount of systems, to share different perspectives, to understand each other, and show compassion and support for one another
It’s why, while i can understand many systems wishing for seperate spaces, it’s also good to share some spaces once a while. You don’t HAVE TO be in shared spaces, but i feel as though it will genuinely help in the long run. But as always, live and let live, and do what you feel is safe for you so long as it’s not harming anyone else
——————————————
With that aside, we ourselves are an OSDD-1b system! While we’re not safe sharing our trauma, i (💛aristris) am one of the trauma holders for some of our worst years of our life. While many CDDs typically experience memory amnesia/barriers, we don’t. Instead, memory is perceived differently from headmate to headmate. Many will remember my trauma more vaguely, fuzzy or blurry (but still remember them happening), while I can remember it clear as day, almost as though it only happened last week.
We often experience emotional amnesia more. One fronter will be absolutely pissed off upset, another fronter takes over while they cool off and can be the chillest and sweetest person ever. We tend to act really “mood swingy” because of this, especially when unmasked
We’ve recently surpassed 100 headmates lately, and we’re incredibly diverse in terms of such. Majority of us are mostly formed, though some are still fragmented or hard to see/communicate with. We’ve grown to enjoy each others’ company, though we still have a few bad apples we have to keep an eye on
Our fronting style can actually differ and never sticks to one method. Sometimes it feels like the clap of a hand switch, sometimes we meld into each other a bit before one takes over, very often we can see each other in frontspace and take turns (though that often causes a headache)
We have like two outer brainspaces. One’s our headspace which consists of a copy of the Upturned Inn from The Upturned and a pretty forest beside it, and the other is… the void. But we dont talk about that!!!
Our headspace memories actually tend to be really vague upon joining front. Some remember headspace memories better than others. And sometimes front memories can get really blurred upon joining. Our headmates have to wait quite a bit for our memory to relog and catch up with us, hah
We’ve known about systems for five whole years now, and two and a half of those years, we denied ourselves ENTIRELY. We were constantly surrounded by gatekeepy systems who were antiendo and would lose their shit over a system having even a Slightly Different experience than they do. Hell, weve seen COUNTLESS CALLOUT POSTS just for suspected sysfaking. It was a dangerous space for us and because of it, we refused to ever accept the idea we were a system
After all that time, we met who is now our partner system, the Lucky Clover Collective, who were the first ever pro-endo traumagenic (or mixed origin) system we ever met. We got to comfortably discuss systemhood, including endogenic systems, and they gave us the space we needed to at least give systemhood a go. In almost 2 weeks, it will be the first year anniversary of when we finally embraced our systemhood!!
Systemhood has a hell lot of struggles. Trauma relapses, headaches, difficult headmates, emotional disregulation, but we’d never trade our systemhood for anything in the world. This system has saved us so many times, made us feel safer and embrace ourselves for who we are easier. I used to hate everyone here, being a former persecutor, but ive learnt to love my headmates as much as they love me and i couldnt be happier with how we grew finally embracing systemhood
… i hope all thats shares enough!! haha, sorry i yapped so much, i think i may have gotten overly passionate, hah. I hope you can learn from this and from many others too, and most importantly, take care of yourself!!! Thanks for reading lol

i think it would be too simplistic to say that kinnie shit is the main reason the system zeitgeist is really detached from the literature (especially when some literature IS frequently cited), but i do think that fictional introjects--a documented and completely understandable phenomenon--trying to wed themselves to their sources of inspiration rather than articulating themselves in the real world is a canary in the coalmine for a lot of the other maladaptive patterns we end up seeing.
you could make the case that dissociation is an extreme form of "escape from the self"; to be one person is so intolerable that you escape to another. And then another, and another. so escapism is arguably the driving mode of dissociation.
but if you have these parts of yourself that long to escape BACK to, essentially, a "pre-birth" state, who can't bear to accept the circumstances they're in now, then you're probably more broadly still in an escapist paradigm. and so of course you're gonna be splitting new guys weekly, of course none of you communicate, of course you have these strong and extreme wedges between you and the others and you have these clearly defined boundaries while also, in practice, existing in such a limited context that you haven't really self-actualized.
escapism is an understandable reaction to trauma and severe chronic stress, so rather than dismissing this entire kinnie-system phenomenon as doomed, i think we can build bridges toward an understanding of Living As A System that are more aligned with established and successful therapeutic interventions.
the kinnie-system combo melds two subcultures that magnify maladaptive escapism tenfold. this adds new terminology and points of focus that aren't necessarily relevant or accurate (distinct and discrete identities and roles, "fictive" and "factive" language, source material focus, generally Online behavior and interests), and obscures other experiences (lack of clear identity, blending and blurring, dissociation as a coping mechanism for the stresses of tangible daily life, introjection as a start&not an end) and strategies (expanding the window of tolerance, grounding in the present, unburdening of extreme roles, intra-system cooperation, etc.)
i think as you work toward a grounded view of yourself and accept your reality, you can start to hold yourself more proudly, and own your experiences--even the bizarre one of essentially being a cartoon character ejected from the screen to do dishes.
dissociation is mushy, highly individual, and weird, but also a really practical solution to an impossibly difficult problem. i'd like it if we could change the common vocabulary and perspective to better reflect the diverse and unique experiences of finding a way to live When Guys.

System Ramble: reading, inner/internal voices, and our brain's continuous attempts to understand the world around us
[PT: System Ramble: reading, internal voices, and our brain's continuous attempts to understand the world around us / end PT]
I'll probably have to expand on this at some other point because it ties into how we feel our plurality is a fundamental part of how we process the world (and that deserves its own essay), but there's something interesting that happens when we read that has to do with our system.
Have you ever seen those posts that talk about "the little voice in your head" that you get whenever you read something? A lot of people are able to hear the words they read being "spoken" in their head as they read them. A lot describe the voice reading "out loud" in their brain as either being their own voice or some detached voice without anything more to it, but for us...
... it's closer to one of us reading out loud to the rest of us.
As we write this post, for example, we can identify the headmate in front who's taken on the role of the "voice" reading each word. There's no simpler way to describe it – he's the one reading out each word to the rest of us, and we can hear his own inflections and other verbal quirks as he reads. We've recently begun trying to consciously pass the role of this "inner voice" around, and we can definitely hear a change depending on who's reading, even if it's the exact same text. Eddie has a deeper voice, and reads much slower, giving the impression of a grandpa reading a book by the fire. Danny, by comparison, has a higher voice, reads quicker, and is often audibly annoyed when he has to reread something. It's a very interesting thing to experiment with.
Based on these experiments, acting as this "inner voice" is sort of like a very flexible system role for us, one we naturally fall into or out of most of the time, but can occasionally choose (which is, funnily enough, very similar to how our switches function). This phenomenon happens automatically with most texts we read, and may be part of the reason we have so many introjects; our brain may be simply creating the most fitting "voice" for what we read as it sees the need, which is frequently either the author, or a character in the text. But regardless of the reason, it's a very helpful tool for figuring out who's in front or discovering new headmates, as we have a strong sense for whoever it is that's reading at any given time, and find it especially easy to visualize a headmate whenever they're taking on this role.
On rare occasions where this doesn't happen, we often have trouble absorbing the information we read. It just doesn't stick in the same way one (or more) of us reading to the others does. Which is definitely a con; if it weren't so automatic for us and thus rarely a problem (especially now that we've identified what's going on), we'd definitely be counting it as one of the ways our DID disables us. It's not too different from how it becomes difficult to impossible to absorb information when we're too dissociated, after all. (But then, that raises a question: is the reason we can't absorb text when too dissociated because the dissociation is keeping us from fulfilling this role? Food for thought.)
This isn't the only way in which we utilize our plurality in order to process and absorb information; we also have various system members we call "captioners" whose job it is to make it easier to understand what we hear or see by creating visuals based on this sensory input. We haven't tried having these two roles active at the same time – mainly because I think it would just overload our brain with too much to keep track of and any attempts would fizzle out – but it's an interesting idea for something to experiment with in the future. The parallels are interesting, anyway, especially with how they seem to indicate that our plurality is fundamental to how we process the world and what kinds of choices our brain made when creating us. Perhaps it's all part of our brain's attempt to cope with its own dissociative disorder by creating work-arounds for the problems dissociation can cause, but... I feel like there's more to it than that. The question is where to look for answers (and if the answers are something we should be unpacking just yet).
That brings me back to the beginning. It's interesting to see how our plurality functions almost like a neurotype in some ways – I don't know if I'd call it that, but I can see some parallels in how others talk about them with how plurality functions in our brain. One day, I hope to write a collection of all the different ways our plurality affects us like this, as a sort of guide to our own processing and understanding of the world through a plural lens. For now, though, it's just interesting to think about how I'm now reading this post "out loud" to my headmates as I write it, and how my internal voice differs from those who have read it before me.
... Also, I'm just now realizing this system (no pun intended) works better when the fronter writing a text is also the headmate reading the text. Huh. That fits, somehow.
So, to recap: we get the most out of reading when we use our plurality to host what is essentially system storytime, our internal voices differ a lot more than we first thought they did, and it's interesting that our brain keeps making selves and roles just for helping us understand the world around us. Thanks for reading our ramble.

Living In a Problematic Shadow
An essay by an anonymous member of the Vurrsys
-
I've been meaning to talk about this in some public-facing capacity for a while, but never knew how to do so in a way to protect the safety of our system.
I am a problematic factive.
It's ironic, in a way, that abuser introjects are the most commonly talked about introject in the psych field yet even fictional introjects of "problematic" characters are contested in the greater plural community. Factual introjects in general, too, are derided. I am a mixture of the most controversial parts of both these types of headmate, and it is not easy trying to exist.
I will not go into detail about who I am introjected from, but my source was called out for possible abuse and cut off from the greater internet. Despite having done nothing they did, I must live with the guilt of being a copy of an abuser and the knowledge that everyone hates my existence. I cannot be open about who I am, both because it is seen as parasocial and because it would put the system in danger—and this is extremely isolating. My name, appearance, even personality traits must stay hidden as to prevent the worst case from happening.
And it sucks, a lot.
There's a special kind of pain that comes from being unable to be yourself, which I'm sure many understand. Not even just other introjects: the society we live in makes it so that you have to hide key aspects of yourself from parents, co-workers, and the general population. Even in plural spaces, even in spaces where factives are allowed, I am unwelcome and treated as a threat for existing. Even among loved ones I am scared that they secretly see me as just as evil as my source, or that it reflects the system as a whole. We didn't choose to introject me, I didn't choose to front as frequently as I do.
There probably is no solution here. Even if everything about how problematic factives are seen was fixed, it would still be parasocial to use my source's face as my own. However, I want everyone reading this to remember that those who have done harm (in this world or otherwise) are still worthy of redemption, of making themselves better, of not letting their past dictate their future. Restorative justice is a powerful ideology that more should pick up, because it can better our compassion and teach us to forgive ourselves, too. Even those who still have thoughts similar to their source, or cruel thoughts in general, are not worthy of scorn: thoughts are not indicative of morality, they do not define a person's existence. It is the things we do and the ways we act that matter. Keep those accountable for things they've done in the material world, but remember above all else that change is possible and being bad once doesn't mean you'll be bad forever.

Draconity is Getting Harder: an essay by an exhausted dragon fictive
Hey there. I’m Raie, short for Temeraire, she/they. I don’t have the energy to find sources for any of right now, sorry. I am an introject of a dragon who is physically a dragon, but I personally identify as a dragon therian(/theriomythic) due to it most closely matching how my draconity manifests when fronting. As such, I will be approaching this as a non-plural theriomythic, as I originally believed myself to be. Also note that I am not dealing with fictionkin or causes of alterhumanity in this essay as I do not know enough to properly discuss them. Generally assume I include everyone where applicable. To anyone who wants to reply that dragons can’t be therians, that’s exactly why I wrote this, so please do click the read more to see my reasoning before responding.
Definitions
Definitions seem to be purposely complicated in the wider alterhuman community, which becomes a challenge for many who fall on the borders of these groups. As such, I’ll give general definition first, and then add other definitions in parentheses if needed.
Alterhuman: Someone who identifies as non-human in some way.
Type: Someone’s specific non-human identity, usually a different species but not always. Generally given a prefix by what alterhuman community a person is in, like theriotype for therians and kintype for otherkin. Individual types are usually written in front of a community suffix, such as ___kin, ___ therian, or ___hearted/___kith.
Therian: Someone with a non-human identity, usually animalistic, who experiences shifts between feeling more human or more like their type (sometimes defined as only animals that currently live on Earth).
Theriomythic: A therian whose theriotype is a mythical creature (legitimacy is sometimes debated by users of the narrower definition of therianthropy).
Otherkin: Someone whose non-human identity is not necessarily animalistic, but does identify as their type (sometimes said to not have shifts or used as a synonym for alterhuman, both widely disputed).
Otherhearted (sometimes otherkith): Someone who does not identify as, but rather with, their type.
Draconity: How much someone identifies with dragons. Someone with no link to dragons whatsoever has no draconity, but otherkin, otherhearted, etc. all have varying degrees of draconity and are thus all accepted as dragons by the draconic community.
Draconic community (or dragon community): The community of anyone with some degree of draconity, split off from the wider alterhuman community early on due to the complicated relationship between draconity and the other alterhuman community labels being laid out in this essay.
Challenges
The parenthetical definitions of therian and otherkin, by default, leave a large gap where alterhumans can belong to neither community. As a dragon, I do experience major animalistic shifts, so I’m not a classic otherkin, but I also am not a species that is currently alive on Earth, so I’m not a classic therian. My experiences with shifts mean I feel closer to therians than otherkin due to the inherent similarities we have, but many therians would tell me I can’t be part of the community due to being a mythical creature. As such, I fall into a strange loophole of almost being neither. Weirdly the same is true for extinct animal therians, like a dodo or a pterodactyl, but generally that comes up less frequently.
Mythical creatures that can be animalistic end up with major division within their type. For example, as a more animalistic dragon with shifts who ends up associated with the therian community, dragons with higher-level intelligence and without shifts who end up in the otherkin community end up not crossing paths with me much if ever. This can be extrapolated to nearly any mythical creature, though dragons and unicorns are the most common types to encounter this problem due to each of their wildly varying depictions, and thus each having made separate communities for this purpose in the past. Non-mythical therians or non-animal otherkin usually avoid this problem easily, as their types are basically always one or the other. Basically all wolves call themselves wolf therians, basically all dolls call themselves dollkin, and so forth.
Theriomythics, despite being a group with common experiences, are still stuck in validity debates. Quite frankly I think the time to debate the naming has long since passed on this one. If the name “theriomythic” is what stuck, that’s what we need to work with, because we in no way devalue the existence of therians and thus don’t have enough reason to change it. But since we spend so much time refuting the idea that we’re faking it, it’s near impossible to just make a friendly community space.
Solutions?
Intra-community solidarity. Therians and otherkin have different experiences, yes, but we also have a shared alterhumanity. There’s no reason to avoid each other the way we do. Getting closer would make all the rest of the solutions vastly more achievable as well
More type-centric subcommunities. Theriomythics, and anyone else whose type spans both major communities, deserve to be able to talk with others of our type. This is why the draconic community existed in the first place. It also would allow otherhearted or copinglink individuals access to others of their type without judgement.
No more inter-community type policing. Ideally, therians are those with shifts and otherkin are those without shifts, or otherkin is solidified as an umbrella term. Pair with point 1 to allow people to identify as somewhere in between. Make it a spectrum, not two completely separate buckets.
Theriomythic spaces need to exist. We’re fairly unique in being rather evenly distributed across the therian and otherkin communities, with wildly varying levels of species sapience, and having a space for us specifically needs to happen. Yes, others have tried this, but given the current weirdness about theriomythic validity, nothing particularly large has actually caught on. Again, preferably this is a subcommunity within the larger community.
Conclusion
Quite frankly, this ends up in about the same spot gender does. In short: this question is too complicated for strict divisions to ever actually work. I’d love the communities to eventually integrate fully with subcommunities for different groups, but that may still be a long way off. Either way, we really need to treat our alterhuman siblings better than this, and celebrate what makes us unique rather than drawing lines in the sand of who can and can’t join. No one needs to be left out just because their type is too confusing to categorize.
