Speaking of Spooky Season - we are hoping to have a very productive one this year. Last year we kind of skipped spooky season and doubled down on xmas, so this year I'm hoping to do the opposite.

Things we're hoping to do for Spooky Season this year:

write and share a horror fanfic (Silent Hill? Resident Evil?) or original serial novel

Spooky season fanfic shorts

play SH2 remake, Silent Hill F

replay SH3, Shattered Memories and Downpour

Play other horror games on our wishlist (crow country, alone in the dark, white day 2, alan wake 2, finish/replay Fatal Frame sequels, back in 1995, devotion etc.)

Do an escape room or a haunted house

I have to find the time to engage with it, and get my partner to sit for it as well. XD possibly in the leadup to this spooky season!

I LOVE House of Leaves. I used to have a personally annotated copy. There are currently 2 different copies sitting on my bookshelf.

I'm familiar with myhouse but I haven't had a chance to actually watch/experience it.

Yes! You can ABSOLUTELY make money off of a fic. It's not immoral, and it's only dubiously illegal (the same way fanart is.)

You just cannot mention on AO3 that you got paid, or connect the monetization of it to AO3 in any way because it's against AO3's rules.

So, the other day, when I was discussing AO3's policy on solicitation, a tumblr user came at me saying that AO3's "no monetization/solicitation" rules were "bullshit" because nexus mods allows fan created mods to get paid.

Look at me.

AO3 protects you.

AO3 protects you and your works. 

It protects your works from copyright strikes and DCMA takedowns.

It protects your work from advertisers.

It protects your work from overzealous legal challenges.

It protects your right to post adult content.

AO3 is non-profit and AO3 will never try to use you or your work to make a profit for themselves and AO3 will go to bat for you if someone tries to legally challenge you or your works.

sometimes i jokingly think that being an anti would be easier, without the harassment and such :// and just rejecting everything you hear lmao

Ah, pal, you might think this, but the reality is that the antis face just as much harassment - from other antis!

I've never seen more bitter a war of callout posts than when one anti decided that another anti friend of theirs was shipping something "problematic".

And then you get to break out the popcorn and watch the people who think you should harass people who ship incest get harassed because they're shipping two characters who are three years apart in age!

Seriously though I have seen so many arguments about "what counts as proship" between antis. Nobody can decide what's "okay" and what isn't.

There's always an anti out there with a stricter definition and they WILL harass the people "on their side."
