I have the opportunity to do something really funny. I have now done all the things I'd need to do before starting HRT. However, I need to decide when I start.

Tomorrow, March 31st, is the International Day of Transgender Visibility. HOWEVER, the day after is April Fools. I can't decide which day would be better to start taking estrogen! Which would be better or funnier? 🤔

An update from my seat inside federal civil service (I am a contractor and report to feds, but am not a fed myself). I am seeing the federal workforce being galvanized to resist the recent strings of Executive Orders and attempts to fire people. If you want to feel heartened by your fellow Americans following through on their oaths to protect this nation, here's a Reddit thread:

On the flip side, where I am seeing people capitulate in advance is on the contractor side.

I have seen contractor companies already scrub their sites of DEIA mentions, as well as pull employment offers from people they were about to hire for contracts that now seem uncertain.

For those not aware, many federal contractors only hire for active contracts. And even if you already have been working for a company for years, if your contract ends, or is cancelled, you are put on a "bench" which eventually leads to being terminated if a new contract is not found for you to work on.

So, even while there is a strong and just call for federal employees to resist, there is a lot of collateral damage happening now at the contractor level that has already left many on their own without jobs.

If you are a federal civil service contractor, I hope you have been following how your company is responding to the EOs and I hope you have a plan for what to do if you are benched soon. I also hope you have a union at your company that can help you. If you are additionally trans, I'd consider the possibility of not passing any public trust or clearance checks in the near future and have a backup plan if federal work suddenly becomes untenable. State or municipal work, if you still feel strongly about civil service.

Resist, but have a backup. Some of us are in pretty shaky positions right now due to our contractor status.
