What about Leo?

Every other turtle has one or multiple love interests. Let me say that again.

Some have multiple love interests

Donnie has April. While this is a bit of a love triangle with Casey, and they never really defined whether April likes him or not, she's definitely his love interest

There are multiple scenes where April kisses donnie, like here

Moving on to Raph, my guy has Mona Lisa, obviously. They're the OTP of the 2012 fandom, the diamonds of the season, to put it that way. Mona and Raph are very much in love whenever they see each other.

Then there's Mikey. He is the ladies man of 2012. First he has Renet, who he falls in love with right after he claims he'd never fall in love with a girl. (Uhuh, sure buddy)

And then he also has Shinigami, who he definitely made heart eyes at, the first time he saw her.

So all of them have reasonably successful love lives, and interesting love interest that are worth considering. What does Leo have?

His sister

Karai and Leo could've been good, but now that they made them siblings? Nah.

They could've been good, had they made clear they're not biologically related

They could've been good, had the turtles not called her sister

They could've been good, had they clarified ANYTHING.

There is no single plot line, it's like two plot lines running through eachother. Either Karai is Splinters daughter and she's their sister, or Karai is Shredders daughter and Leo's love interest. Sometimes it can't be both.

Leo definitely deserved a better love interest. The hero/villain trope is cute, the brother/sister trope not so much.

I say Leo is for the fandom. Someone give him a good love interest.

Fun fact: I decided that the colors around him would mean that he would have a spark instead of inserting banal hearts. This is most likely a new feeling of being needed by your best friend.

2012 April’s voice actress Mae Whitman is the daughter of Pat Musick who voiced Mona Lisa in the TMNT 1987 series.

Looks like both mother and daughter played Rob Paulsen’s love interest 😂

April is not so bad

For me, maturing is realising that April 2012 was not an evil man-loving maniac who intentionally led Donnie on or anything like that. I did, for a while, strongly dislike April, but I don't think that's completely justified.

She was just a teenager, and frankly, Donnie was kind of creepy sometimes! And it's hard to tell someone you don't like them when they are so obsessed with you, and especially since Donnie never straight up confessed it to her. (I know he tried in the season 2 final, but come on, the world was ending! And it was in front of everyone!)

She's a good person, not the best, but she's alright! She's just your typical teenage girl.

Maybe she didn't know what she wanted, maybe she did, maybe there's a reason she doesn't want to date Donnie officially but still likes him, maybe there isn't.

Personally, I headcanon she really wanted biological kids from both her and her partner, and that's why she was so conflicted between liking Donnie and her child wish. But even if she doesn't, she is not obligated to be anything to Donnie.

I think she may have thought Donnie was being creepy and a bit too obsessed with her up until season's 3 'bigfoot', but after Donnie realises what he does is meant well, but doesn't come across the way he want to, he starts to tone it down. I think that from up until that point, she might actually start to have stronger romantic feelings for him.

Would I have preferred they either left out the romance or chose a clear direction with it? Yes.

Do I think April is a bad person? No.
