#to imagine that it's “humans” and then “nature”

I will definitely delete this later. This is very silly in retrospect but these thoughts have been weighing heavily on my mind in recent weeks.
I've been getting more comments either in person or online how my artwork looks too similar to another artist. Going as far as seeing comments on Pinterest mislabeling my work as said other artist. It's very disheartening and it makes me even question my own thought process and prevents me from exploring themes that might overlap in fear that it might be accused of being a ripoff. I've already had that happen with my mermaid illustration and a different artist's girl in a oyster shell. Or with my fairy fruit girls with another artist's fairy fruit girls...
While I won't deny there are similarities and I do find this artist very talented and inspirational, my art style developed from heavily studying art nouveau, golden age of illustration, and shoujo styles like Clamp. I love pencil lines because that's what I used since I started drawing and never found any other medium as comfortable. I love girls, nudity, lingerie, nature, fantasy, soft lines, soft colors, detailed hair, lolita fashion, dark themes, erotic themes, romantic themes... the list goes on. I would like to imagine that my style developed naturally and independently but with these comments stuck in my head, now I'm questioning myself and my honesty. I get why it's natural to compare one artist to another. I also look at someone's work and think this person's work reminds me of someone else's and of course I don't think less of them because of it. The opposite really, it's exciting to me to see groups of artists who share similar vibes and aesthetics. It's human nature to find comparisons and similarities. But I just need to know that I'm okay. That my work is allowed to exist as is and I shouldn't take it too personally. That my work can be both similar and stand on it's own.
#I'm feeling a lot of feelings chat#Artists in question is Loputyn and Kira Imai#and some works just get accused of being rip offs#which is always fun. Not to my face though. Just on pinterest#I use pinterest alot so I'm bound to come across my work posted there and curiosity always gets to me

Reasonings
The Fool I put the damsel down for pretty early, just because of the childish optimism, but later I was thinking about the damsel route and why it wouldn't fit the Lovers and I said the damsel is more about how they are rushing into it. And then I remembered the Fool is about rushing in lol. I couldn't really consider anything else after that
The Magician mentions the central nervous system and lungs, so I considered putting the nightmare here for paranoids mantra, but the card didn't really fit her that well and the central nervous system is different to the autonomous nervous system anyway so. The Moment of Clarity gets this spot for her practical breaking of you, and the success it brings her. Not one of my easiest placements but I'm still pretty happy with it
The high Priestess was hard to place because she's about the occult, and powerful women who don't need a man. If only there was a princess who fit that mold... (/s if it wasn't clear) so yeah. Half the princesses were written down here at one point. The Wraith gets this spot because I found other places for all the others I guess and also because "She could not find her strength in others, so she found it in herself."
The empress is again a powerful woman, but a loving and nurturing one, who encourages growth. It was both the growth and the partnership she has that gave her the adversary
The Emperor is about hierarchy and dominance. I knew very early on that the tower would fit best here. "This one is dominance."
The hierophant is about structure, appearances, and also marriage. Happily Ever After is all about being trapped within this structure, with ties specifically to marriage. Literally tell me I'm wrong?
The Lovers. Okay. So there's a few this could be. The Damsel, with the voice of the smitten? Not really as equal a partnership, as I mentioned in the Fool section. They don't really know each other. The Thorn, where you can kiss her? Well that ignores like. The entire rest of the route so no. Happily ever after? Maybe, but I prefer her in hierophant. The adversary, with your equal partnership in kicking each others asses? Easily, but I also put her elsewhere. Ironically, the Lovers was one of the last two cards I placed, and the only princesses left were the wild and the grey, and unfortunately I couldn't agree with the drowned grey going here. The wild has you literally being one, achieving a common goal. It's not my favourite placement but I dont hate it so.
The chariot is about putting in the hard work and seeing it through, and she does make an effort to capture you (swallow you whole) and bring you to the door so she can escape. Also it's about vehicles, and she literally acts as a vehicle for you. That idea was too funny to not do tbh
Justice is one of three cards that mention balance, so I wanted one of the ones where you merge to go here. Much like the scales of justice, it is about considering all sides and picking fairly, so it had to go to the spectre, who gets justice for her murder when you help her out. The spectre was written down for like half the cards on this list though my god
The hermit is about solitude and self introspection. The prisoner, sitting in silence for millenia, felt very fitting. I also wanted the cage to be here, because the image of the hermit is him holding up a lantern, and having the cage holding her head like that would be fun, but she fit better in the hanged man so.
The wheel of fortune was one of my later picks. Fate, and also cycles. Its a little vague, and can fit with quite a few princesses, but I put the stranger here. Is it the vibes? Something about coincidences and not meeting her feels similar, but I cant put my finger on it so if you can explain please do.
Strength, but of the inner sort. The Den didn't really have anywhere better to go, I don't know if instinct matches with any of the cards. I felt confidence in ones self was pretty similar to instinct, plus it has ties to animals.
The hanged man is self restrictions. I would have liked to put the thorn here, honestly, hanging from her vines. Ultimately it was the best choice for the cage, though, and I had another good option for the thorn. Anyway, the cage can be hanging from all those chains and hooks. "This one is a body that convinced herself she was only a set of eyes." Sounds like her limits are self imposed for sure!
Death and the tower have similar meanings in that things are coming to an end, and both of them I felt were good fits for both eye of the needle and the Fury. Ultimately I put eotn here because its more cyclical, and when she was the adversary she wanted to continue fighting over and over again.
Temperance is the second balance card, specifically about blending this time. Opposites merging, solving disputes. Felt very much like the princess and the dragon chapter. "This one is perspectives bleeding into one."
The Devil is a person tricking you, but also material security. I only ever put the witch down for this one, and I only ever put her down for one card lol. The mutual trickery and betrayal in her chapter felt too fitting. "A trick behind your back, and a trick behind mine."
The tower, like I said, is similar to death in that they are both about things ending. But the tower is more dramatic, about the sudden upheaval, so I thought thematically it matched with the Fury better, who is very upset and very taking it out on you. This is one of the cards I knew the meaning of from the beginning, so unfortunately there was never a point in which the tower was matched with the tower :(
The star is hope and healing. One of many that the spectre could have matched with. (I wanted to make her star shaped wound be the star... oh well). The Thorn fits well here, if you both choose to end the cycle of violence and leave together. The star also has ties to nature, which fits with the thorns... thorns... I would have preferred her at the hanged man for her self limiting, being trapped in her own thorns, but this is also a very good choice so I'm not too mad lol
The moon is fear and anxiety. Plus the moon only comes out at night, when everyone is sleeping, when you have nightmares! But mostly it's the vagueness, mystery and anxiety stuff.
The sun being joy meant I knew I wanted the razor here from the beginning. I briefly considered putting her at death (for the cycles, and also the uh, death) but I think the dying part of her route is not actually that important? Anyway the razor is my wife and I'm glad she's enjoying herself. "She is cruelty. But she is also joy." See, shifty gets it!
Judgement is where you look back on everything and judge yourself. It was one of the last two cards to be assigned, and the wild did not fit here at all. Plus the grey sort of punishes you for your actions? It's unavoidable, is my point.
The world is accomplishment, wholeness. She is as close to becoming the goddess she truly is as any vessel ever comes. "This one sits at the cusp of awakening." Shifty says. Also Apotheosis literally means climax so I had to put her at the end of the tarot, you understand.
So yeah that's that. Thanks for reading, if you managed to get through all that. Feel free to debate different interpretations at me, I'd love to hear em!
#slay the princess#straight up dont know what to tag this as#tarot#i guess i mean i did literally interpet all the cards#i am not going to tag all the princesses

USED A SUA IMG IN ONE OF YOUR BATFAM POST imagine a luka reader. the family desperate to reach you and due to lack of memories of what You were like since they all neglected you, started just making shit up about you. yes, of course youre angelic, kind and so darling to them! youd never hurt a fly and your soul is such a forgiving one... until they look you up online properly and see you gay baiting someone to get them shot
- prologue
PAUSE anon you cooked, omg. (for those who don't know who luka is i've put a very small summary of his character right at the end.)
honestly i've just been using sua as a poster girl, but a reader with luka's characteristics is so interesting... after being relocated from your "father's" underground business dealings to gotham to live with your real family, it'd be natural to stay reclusive because of the change in atmosphere.
i imagine a luka-ish reader would try to socialise more with the family than the current insert, but their attempts would be unmeaningly unsettling. an innate feeling would rise in the batfam that didn't make them dislike you, per say, just unintentionally avoid you.
you can't be much bothered with it, since even in your previous living conditions, there'd be people who liked you, and people who didn't. you knew how to work around it
so you redirect your focus. you'd been treated like an adult as you were being raised, so you had your goals and motivations figured out at this age already. for a handful of years in the manor, you'd work to keep up the fame you'd built up with your old "father", fame that slightly dissolved after your sudden disappearance from the screens; your escape from the industry.
eventually, when you decide to move out to perhaps further your prospects and influence, there's a buzz in the media at the sudden reappearance of the angle-voiced child star who was taken off the big screens after their "father" got involved with court dealings.
this is probably what eventually alerts the family to your absence in the manor, and in the shame that they couldn't notice it without the help of a third party, they scrounge around in their memory for good exchanges with you. just to have some semblance of the kid who wandered around aimlessly in the house. the kid they shooed away without ever actually shooing them away.
when they find nothing; they try to make stuff up. "angle-voiced child star", so you must've been soft-spoken, sympathetic, angelic person too, right? yeah, yeah you must've been a darling... how could they be so ignorant of you?
their shame somewhat morphs their unease at your old attempts to talk to them, into a shy child's timid want to talk to a new family in a new area, without any help whatsoever.
oh you poor, poor little kid.
i imagine it wouldn't be too difficult for them to find content of you, since your net-presence sky-rocketed after returning to the music industry. but ohh just imagine their surprise when they get access to an underground website streaming some sick stage-show human trafficking project, and see you there?? whatever are you there for? doesn't your fame generate a fortune? what in the world would you need to be on this... show for?
idk how the "getting them shot" thing could play into any other place other than a dark-web game show tbh. maybe they don't initially recognise that the videos up there are for such a thing, only after seeing you walk away from an applauding audience, get surprised by the sound of a shot and the image of your opponent lying dead on the stage ground, do they bother to investigate the ordeal. but this time, as vigilantes, and not failed family.
they'll just... save you along the way, yeah? 'save' you.
luka is a character from a series called alien stage, and you can find the episodes uploaded on youtube by vivinos. luka's established as a well known, famous character within the alien stage 'tournament', who's participated in the whole thing before, and has a significant amount of aliens/audience rooting for him.
his character on it's own looks beautiful, and is dubbed "prince" by his fans, but on his first appearance in round 5, he is portrayed as somewhat unfeeling and manipulative.
better characterisation is provided on alien stage's official accounts, with comics and patreon uploads. the "father" i refer to in the above imagine is referring to luka's alien owner.

Okay so in Twisted Wonderland, the Fae are mostly creatures that are either reptilian in nature(crocodiles) or creatures related to supernatural beings(bats, dragons, and possibly corvids)
So like, imagine if Earth had Fae like the ones in Twisted Wonderland. Like in an AU, instead of Yuu being a magicless human they're a Fae who doesn't exist in the Twisted Wonderland, and I mean Fae based off of old extinct Earth creatures(dinosaurs and terrorsaurs), like imagine if Yuu was like a Mosasaurs Fae. Comparable to crocodile Fae but stronger and has a higher bite force, or hell, Quetzalcoatlus Yuu.
Just imagine :3

Rafe Cameron
As I stood one step behind Rafe and our daughter, I felt like their bodyguard. He always wanted to have her in his arms. He didn’t feel the need to use her stroller, so it always stayed in the trunk. He would look back every so often to make sure I was close by but most importantly, he made sure to catch every moment, expression, or action from our daughter. “Don’t get her too close to the glass” I warned. But just as I said it he squatted down with her close enough to touch the glass. He grins back at me before turning to see our daughter so fazed with the creature in front of her. I step back taking a seat on the wooden bench and just watch those two.
“Can you imagine them living amongst dinosaurs?” My head snaps to my right as a man takes the seat beside me. “Of course they developed over the years but it's incredible to think of how far back they go.”
“And now you have them here” I plainly point towards the glass. “Living behind a glass where people pay to come and see them.” The guy laughs shaking his head.
“If you think they deserve better, why come see them?”
“Call me a hypocrite,” I smile. “I like to think these places are made up of animals we have helped. Maybe that small turtle was saved and would never be able survive out there in the wild.”
“A nice way to see things,” He lets out a sigh. “But still pessimistic?”
“Oh yes” I laugh. “It’s second nature to me. People can be so deceiving that it's easier to never truly put your trust on someone.”
“Talking from experience?” I turn my head to look at him. My smile turned into a bit of a frown. His mood shifted really quickly, noticing my change. “You seem like a person who believes in second chances?”
“I believe things can be made right, but I also believe a person should know their value. Trust should be sacred. If you decide to trust someone it could either make you noble or a fool for falling for the same trick twice.”
“And you don’t want to make that mistake twice because you’re scared of the pain?” I shake my head letting out a quick laugh. “In my books it doesn’t make you a fool to trust again, it simply means you are a human with a big heart.”
“Guess we just differ in opinions.” He smiles nodding along.
“We should meet up to see if that is true, maybe in a couple of years it will be the same?” I look over feeling my smile die down. I take a deep breath ready to respond when someone cuts me off.
“I think not.” Our heads turn to see Rafe standing there. “Our daughter wants to visit the shop.” His eyes rolled over to mine. Dead expression on his face.
“I don’t mean to cause any trouble-”
“Then walk away.” I gasp at Rafe's response. I was about to grab his hand and pull him away when he turned towards me and handed over our daughter. As I adjusted her in my arms I am faced with his back.
“I-” I see the man stretch to the side with pleading eyes to look at me but of course Rafe blocks him. He moves forward with each hand grabbing a fist full of the man's collar.
“Look dude. I am trying to have a nice day with my family and you are ruining it. You are some creepy guy who comes to places like these alone to what? Pry on women hoping they give you some attention?”
“Rafe stop.” I demanded placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Look man I just saw her sitting there and she looked a bit down,” What? I looked down? People said I have a resting bitch face but I didn’t know it made me look depressed, what the fuck.
“Your mistake.” Rafe continues. “Now that I am here you can move along and bother someone else, this one is mine.” He lets him go with a little shove. I stay quiet knowing and hoping it won’t escalate. The man fixes his shirt and with a last glance towards me he walks away.
“Seriously?” I say watching Rafe walk to where I was standing. “You didn’t have to do all of that.” He doesn’t respond. He simply takes a hold of my hand and begins to drag me somewhere. “Rafe,” I say a little louder trying to get his attention. He swiftly dragged us between the crowd until we stopped in front of the family bathroom.
“In.” He opened the door and motioned for me to get in but I just stood there. I raised one brow thinking how crazy he was acting and childish. “Can you please get in?” I rolled my eyes and got in. I shake away the small grin knowing it wasn’t the time to acknowledge his cute plea. I wait for him to close the door and lock it. “I heard you two talking.”
“Rafe you know I wouldn’t-”
“I wasn’t talking about him.” He stays put in the doorway. I search his eyes for any clue, until it hits me. “Are you ever going to trust me?” His voice was almost a whisper. “You don’t say it but I know the reason for you breaking up with me and putting me on trial to be in our daughter's life was because of my past.” I was left speechless. My cheeks were burning and my bones were aching to just touch him. I saw how pain flashed in his eyes but I couldn’t find the words. “You would have hated who I was back then and who’s to say I won’t go back to being that person again. My father was a bad man but I loved him.” His last word made his voice crack. “I don’t want her to live through that and hate me,” His head falls down but I notice a small tear rolling down his cheek. “I don’t want to live knowing you always have a foot out the door.” That's when he broke down into a cry.
“Rafe,” I swallowed the pain in my throat and walked over to him. I grabbed his hand and led him to the single couch in the room. “Look at me Rafe.” I kneel in front of him. I lifted his chin a bit to search for his eyes. Once I saw his eyes focus on me I moved our daughter to his lap. “I can’t tell you that it didn’t play a part in my decision because it did.” His chest was breathing heavily. “But it didn’t make me stop trusting you, ever.” Both of my hands were holding his cheeks making sure he didn’t look away. I move my thumbs to clear up the remainder of his tears. “Baby I fell in love with the man you became after so much pain. You did that on your own before we met and after seeing you become a father, I know you won’t ever do anything to make her and I hate you.”
“But you don’t even look at me the same.” I grinned hearing his childlike whine. I move closer between his legs.
“I don’t look at you the same because you keep changing on me for the better.” I begin to smile bigger. “I fell in love with a 20 year old boy who was building a life for himself. Then again as a 24 year old man who became the father to our little girl. Now I have a chance to see what kind of person you will become as we grow older together but trust me, the only change you see in my eyes is how my love just keeps getting bigger and bigger for you.” I lift my head giving him a quick kiss. “Those blue eyes have become my favorite blues to see.”
“Not the ocean?” He says quietly.
“No, ocean blue doesn’t even come close.” He nods softly before fixing his down posture. “Are you okay?” He flickered his eyes down towards me as he nodded. But when I tried to get up with one hand he kept me from standing up. He leans forward and as I try to pull away but his free hand moves from my shoulder to the back of my head.
“You need to be more careful when talking to strangers,” What am I, 10?. “I held back because our daughter was nearby, but don’t go making friends with strangers, especially men.” I roll my eyes as I let out a chuckle. “You two are mine to protect.” I move forward resting my forehead against his.
“She is ours to protect,” I say challengingly. His piercing eyes don’t change showing how he was not amused with my answer. “I won’t do it again.” I groaned, pulling away from him. “Can I get up now? My knees are killing me”
“I don’t know why. You have always been good on your knees.” I scoff pushing him away.
“You're an idiot.” I hear him laugh as I pick myself up. “Now let's go because there is an otter plushie that has my name on it.” I hear the couch creek as he stands and walks over to the door. I turn around to face Rafe, one hand on the handle behind my back as he stares down at me. “I love you so much.” I whisper quietly and slowly. His eyes move to my right and then the left a couple of times. “Don’t forget it.” I simply state. I turn and push the door open but his hand grips mine and pulls it close. His face right beside me ear,
“Woman if I didn’t have my daughter in my arms right now I would fuck you against this very door. Don’t go saying things like that when I can’t do anything about it.” He takes a step back allowing me to focus back on opening the door. I tried to swallow but my mouth was left dry. Of course Rafe was enjoying it. He wrapped his free arm around my neck and led us to the shop with a grin on his face.
“Fuck the store” I stop in my tracks. Shivers were literally circulating around my body.
“What?” Is he stupid?
“We can come tomorrow to get her a stuffed animal. Let's go home. She needs to nap.” I didn’t care how desperate I looked or sounded. I needed Rafe. These people should be grateful I have enough self restraint to hold myself back but it wouldn’t be for long.
“What about the otter-?”
“Fuck the otter Rafe.” I looked around a little embarrassed as I spoke a little too loudly. I walked closer making sure no one was going to hear me. “I am giving you a chance to go home and fuck me Rafe.” His eyes widened. “You can fuck me until you put another baby in me. I need you,” I look up with pleading eyes hoping to get him on the same page.
“Yes ma’am.” And with Rafe, it didn’t take much.

I have a theory that Visser 3 would have failed an invasion of Earth because he didn't understand human politics, and human nature. On the Yeerk and Andalite home worlds they have a few spaceports but they don't have the infrastructure and confusing nations that would make it impossible to fall.
If you strike an Andalite spaceport (the closest thing they have to a city) you cripple the Andalite War effort.
If you wipe out a major human city like say New York, or Tokyo there's many others to fight back and entire governments and militaries to fight back with completely different structures.
It seems that most alien races in the animorphs have a pretty united government.
yeah, it also helps that all these different spots humans exist in are Packed Full of us. we're incredibly fucking plentiful, that's what makes us so attractive as a host species, but it's also what makes us the hardest to scoop up in one go.
i think there's also something to be said about the fact that visser three's ultimate goal is not to conquer the human race, but to conquer the andalites. he's an andalite nerd & admirer first, and that means that for the entire earth invasion, instead of taking visser one's strategy at face value and keeping the yeerk invasion quiet and slow, he's worried instead about what happens five, ten steps down the line. he's not really concerned with the way humans work.
like...Edriss was the original leader of the earth invasion for a reason, and she did this and accomplished all she did by actually doing research into humans, infiltrating them herself, and finding out what makes them tick. She also made a bunch of enormous fucking mistakes, obviously, and she's got a very similar (albeit... very slightly less all-consumingly violent?) obsession with humanity as esplin does with andalites, which hurts more than it helps.
i think that as far as visser three is concerned, the humans could and should have been infested in droves on day one. he can't imagine a species being anywhere close to as resilient and awesome as the andalites, and that's where he fails. he's infinitely more concerned with the "andalite bandits" coming for him than he is about any of the humans he's subjugating turning on him (cough. cough. also the andalite bandits).
it also helps that he's just plain stupid

pleeeasssee miller i know you let the work stand on it's own but please tell us jsut a tad bit more about the valyerian sex magic!!!!
i meannnn
on valyrian sex magic
i am not the person to ask for the true asoiaf lore, of course; but there is obviously a pervasive source of magic across Planetos — accessible by many cultures in many different forms — and the "flavour" of the magic of each is very much a reflection, i think, of what GRRM wants us to glean about each. the Starks are themselves effectively the oldest singular consistent human organisation, if you will, that we actually meet in the books, and their magic is extremely rudimentary and primordial—they turn into animals and talk to trees. It's giving primordial man, it's giving Lucy—humanity as a symbiotic participant in (rather than an editor of) the natural world.
fast forward almost five thousand years: the valyrians are not tree hugging hunter-gatherers. they are the roman empire if the roman empire were composed of evil wizards. Their magic is dark, rooted in blood and fire—it was a tool of mind control, of asymmetric warfare, of wroth destruction. It required blood sacrifice and whips and horns and knives. It mated slave women to animals to produce grotesque chimeras. The entire thing is about the subjugation, not the embrace, of nature. Obviously until we have WoW or (lol) aDoS, we won't know—and maybe not even then—but the best prevailing theory in my view is that blood of the dragon is literal. Planetos has wyverns and, more importantly, firewyrms (flightless, firebreathing lizards) that the Valyrians almost certainly combined with human beings in some ritualistic hellcurse to produce the first dragons. this explains (1) the psychogenic bond between rider and dragon; (2) why nobody without valyrian blood can ride one; (3) the decline of the dragons correlating near-perfectly with the Andalisation (read: de-magifying) of the Targaryens; and perhaps most importantly, (4) why an animal that can fly hundreds of miles in a day would for some reason be found only on a single small isle in some random corner of a massive content that has volcanos and mountains and hot weather elsewhere. only one culture having dragons is like only one airport having planes.
much like the american NRA often asserts about guns, dragons are something of a sexual equaliser. part of why rhaenyra is so much freer than alicent when they're young is not merely because of her elevated social station (which is a principal part of it, yes) but also because she is in sole possession of one of the only six nukes in the world. At fifteen Rhaenyra possesses the power to go burn Riverrun to its foundation. I mean, if you thought Daenerys had firepower—regardless of D&D's absolute boneheaded visual mistakes in the show—Syrax is bigger than Drogon.
in any case i digress; i bring this up to make the point that while we do know valyria was a patriarchy of sorts, you can imagine a world in which a valyrian noble house would be headed (on occasion) by a woman because she is the most powerful imperial military leader because she is in command of the largest dragon. as a result, you can imagine a culture that embraces less patriarchal sexual and gender politics than do the Andals, and when take this inference a step further with the chimeras and the dragon-making and all the other frankensteinian blood magic, i just don't think it's that much of a leap to imagine that some dragon-wielding all-powerful female ruthless blood wizard in ancient Valyria decided—based on blood purity or necessity or ego or whatever—to impregnate some other woman. some maesters recorded that dragons appeared to change their sex—becoming able and unable to lay and fertilise eggs. Anyway, I just don't put genderbending and fempreg past the people who—if the theory is right—invented fucking dragons. It seems easier to do magic pregnancy than to do dragons. idk. melisandre gave birth to a shadow. nearly every ancient tradition on the planet can explore the miracle of virgin conception but we can't have lesbo baby?? why?? thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Disclaimer. I have never been into twilight what I know about the lore and relationships is very surface level!
I’m not overly surprised that Bella and Edward do not have a very flushed out relationship/seem like they don’t really love each other that much. I think I’m only not surprised because I grew up near a lot of Mormons and that’s just how they are a lot of the time.
I’m also not surprised about how much racist stereotypes are in twilight because Mormons themselves are very racist even within their own scripture.
I don’t remember the whole scripture, but there is one where it said that people have dark skin because they’re literally just bad people.
one thing about the book Twilight that i think people miss if they haven't read the books or aren't that into Twilight is that all vampires are white, not that all vampires we happen to see in the books are white, but the process of becoming a vampire leaches melanin from the skin turning the person white with only slight variation in undertones. this is somewhat mitigated in the movies, there are vampires who are POC in the Twilight movies, but they're all vampires that feed on humans, all of the good vampires remain white, and allegedly Meyer threw a fit when the director of the first twilight movie wanted to make Alice asian.
The Cullens, are the good guys in twilight. they're presented as perfect in every way and also, they live in a patriarchal household where they get married and value having children more than anything else in the world, and they're white. joining them, becoming one of the good guys necessitates whiteness. Meyers presents this whole thing as neutral but, as an outsider looking in it's a horrific thing to imagine.
I think someone could read Twilight and know it was written by a Mormon without any prior knowledge of Stephanie Meyers just because of details like that and other parts of the book that are perfectly in line with Mormon doctrine and taken at face value to be normal/ common sense / the natural order.

Ok just had to share because I've been seeing these people all around and yet it had never happened directly to me.
So, great review of Nosferatu, and I get into A Situation with a person claiming that Orlok is a psychic pdfile rapist of child-Ellen and what's more, the covenant he tricked her into making with him symbolizes a marriage contract, thus Ellen is the analogue of a child bride and a denunciation of the buying and selling of women as brides through history and during that period in particular - also class analysis of how he's a parasite that sucks people dry, yadda yadda, we all know the class analysis. Now that's certainly....a take, and tbh I can see some elements of it sleekly fitting in with the way Eggers structures his themes, but to treat it so absolutely as THE explanation of such an intricate narrative....yeah. I had some issues with that.
And the whole affair ends with that person telling me verbatim, I kid you not, "you should examine why it is that you have a romantic reading on such an one-sided relationship between an undead rapist killer and his teenage victim".
And I'm like....what is this supposed to be? An own? Is it supposed to make me stop dead on my tracks and go "oh yeesh. Why am I romanticizing the goddamn gothic romance????? Am I some kind of monster? A ticking time bomb who'll listen tomorrow about a teen grooming victim of some degenerate and go "yeah but consider that she might have called on him on her dreams to liberate her and spread Covid around"???
To make a long story short, that passive-aggressive urge to self-psychologize with the hint that there's something wrong with myself did absolutely nothing to me,and I can explain it already as I did.
I had a romantic reading because I like gothic romance.
That's it, that's all the answer needed.
But I'm feeling rambly, so I'll elaborate. Because I like sounding the depths of the human mind and will and I like imagining it against powers that defy human measures. Because I like to imagine human nature as a universe, full of it's own destructive phenomena, natural disasters, secret cave systems and toxic geysers. Because in fiction I am free to do so, and can taste flavors that I would never seek out in the real world, like the vertigo of fulfilling the need for self-destruction, or the grandeur of being worth more than the entire world to someone, and what's more, I can acknowledge they exist, and can safely follow them to their logical limits from behind the safety of a book cover. Because on the page we can live out what can't be lived out in the real world even if we tried and because "some things belong on the page, others in life, and it's a blessed fool who can't tell the difference" and I don't know how others see themselves, but I am neither blessed nor a fool.
So needless to say, that wasn't the one it was probably intended as. Really interesting, though, to see such limited-minded puritanism take the stand on the event of Nosferatu coming out. Really interesting how, somehow, they are sounding more and more like crusaders of moral purity for the easily-deceived masses, only now dressed in some righteous "anti-abuse" garb, like abuse in the world will be affected if someone on the internet says that maybe the devouring embodiment of darkness that was rotting alive in the movie had some lasting and fatal effect on Ellen, and it didn't have to be love for it to be defining.
The real question is, why when your limit is the sky and you can make playgrounds out of your mind, do people feel the need to bring everything down to the unromantic, pedestrian and depressive reality that surrounds us whether we want it or not? As far as passive-aggressive urges for self-reflection go, I think that's a much more potentially productive one.
#Bro or sis truly thought they did something there#nosferatu really did bring me back from the dead#nosferatu#nosferatu 2024#ellen hutter#count orlok#robert eggers#gothic romance#Romanticism

The grain of truth: Hunter-gatherers tend to have children less frequently than settled agrarian people. This is because agrarian people tend to stay in one place, and as many parents know, it's hard to carry an infant and a toddler at the same time, and harder to convince the toddler to keep up on long walks.
It wasn't an intentional effort at population control, not most of the time. Hunter-gatherer populations were low because it's hard to grow the population with mesolithic technology. Food is hard to come by, especially in areas which already have a lot of humans; the only tools available are ones that can be easily transported; the world is full of unpredictable dangers like natural disasters, wild animals, and hostile bands of fellow humans.
But that didn't stop people from trying. There's zero archaeological evidence of early humans killing the weak or disabled, and plenty of evidence of the opposite. Skeletons of people with permanent disabilities who lived to old age, or with crippling injuries that had time to heal, sometimes buried in places or with artifacts suggesting some degree of social prestige.
If these ancient people did discard the injured or disabled, if they tried to control their population as a rule, these people would not have survived so long. But they didn't, because humans care about other humans, no matter how much we try to pretend otherwise.
As to why people pretend otherwise...honestly that could be a whole book.
People like to imagine their distant predecessors lived lives that are nasty, brutish, and short because it implies a sort of steady march of progress. Many people like imagining that the status quo is the result of 10,000 years of progress, the best society that has ever existed no matter the metric.
But at the same time, other people think ancient ways are the best ways. The problems which endanger our society today are not a result of institutions and incentives, they say, but of ignoring the wisdom of our forefathers, wisdom which let our people thrive for countless millennia! And these people are often fans of eugenics. They project their cruel understanding of the world onto that revered past to sanctify it.
These viewpoints are both supported by an unspoken assumption that compassion is a luxury. Being nice costs something, so being cruel must provide something in return. People who buy into this framework assume that ancient people with limited resources must have been cruelly efficient, because how else could they have survived?
really disheartening to see how much eco-fascist and eugenicist bullshit has embedded itself into writings about human relationship with nature. I was looking at a copy of a book in the library a while back called Humans Vs. Nature and found this (Discussing early human migrations in the Paleolithic)
To my great dismay, I did not record the source for this claim, But I found these pictures again, and of course I think...How do we know that?
How could we know that Paleolithic hunter-gatherers deliberately controlled their populations by periods of abstaining from sex? That would be incredibly hard to support using archaeological evidence. It seems easier to support infanticide using the archaeological record, so I was not initially troubled by that.
The author is also stating that Paleolithic humans killed their disabled. I have been searching high and low for evidence to support this claim and the closest I've come to any evidence regarding disability in the Paleolithic is this book chapter discussing whether or not it makes sense to assume compassion existed in pre-history. This book chapter gives the impression that the research has been...really dismal.
The two sides of the debate are essentially, "humans probably cared for their disabled in prehistory, because pathologies and injuries are common and they would have needed some kind of care" and "well maybe those people could survive just fine on their own and that's why they lived. We can't prove they were actually disabled."
Not an anthropologist, but I think it's pretty stupid to position a compassionless society as the "null hypothesis," especially based upon chimpanzees. Why would Paleolithic humans be more behaviorally similar to a relative separated by 5 to 13 million years of evolutionary divergence, than to their own descendants a mere few thousand years later????????
But the claim in Humans Vs. Nature isn't just that disabled people weren't cared for, it's that they were deliberately "eliminated," which is a statement with a much higher burden of proof. You would have to find the remains of disabled humans from that time period with clear evidence that they were killed because they were disabled, and you would have to observe this consistently in many sites, to come to the conclusion that it was a cultural norm.
We have many examples of elaborate, seemingly honorable burials for people that were apparently disabled and would have lived a long time with their disabilities. Nothing I've read has mentioned an archaeological record of killing people for being disabled, which would be a glaring oversight, unless it didn't exist, which I'm pretty sure it doesn't.
How did we get to the point where this kind of fucking bullshit sounds so plausible and correct that it makes it into a best selling book without anyone looking it up to see if it's true.

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare Catverse
So, I've been sitting on this thought for a while. There's something about hardened military people with cats that just tickles me, and imagining the COD men and women having jobs that center around taking care of cats in one way or another has taken over my mind completely. And as such, why not have them own and work in cat cafes, rescues, pet hotels, the whole shebang? And yes, you'll notice that Kate, Valeria, Farah, and Alex are missing because I haven't narrowed down exactly what I think they'd be doing in this universe, so if you have any ideas don't be afraid to let me know! Same goes for names for their businesses, as I haven't been able to think of anything that fits. I'll probably expand more on this at a later date, but in the mean time, if you have questions, ask them! I'd love to ramble about this little idea of mine.
Jonathan Price: Owner of the first of the big three cat cafes in London, John’s cafe has become his second home, a place where he takes care of any cats that are found injured or are older than most. John provides the less fortunate felines a place to relax and become acclimated to humans, heavy war-torn hands developing a gentle touch for the felines. He retired from his position as Captain years ago, the stress of his military career and countless near-death experiences feeding into unhealthy coping habits that were heavily affecting him physically and mentally. Now, he feels at peace with himself and is happy with where he is at life, no longer wondering if he’d live to see tomorrow. His cafe has adoptable and non-adoptable cats, so they will often host special promotions for their adoptable cats, though he had to ban Nikolai from coming to those events. They already have 10 cats at home, they don’t need any more, but John always finds it funny seeing his husband disguise himself to sneak in to the events. Nikolai stands out like a sore thumb every time, and John always unmasks him, planting a kiss on his lips before sending his husband on his way.
Nikolai: Husband to Price and rescuer, Nikolai stops by at least once a week with new rescues to be integrated into the cafe, sometimes stopping by just to see his husband and his team. Often wandering the streets of London and even traveling to other cities when needed, Nikolai seems to draw the attention of cats wherever he goes, which thankfully makes his job of rescuing much easier. With John’s help, he turned the basement into a recovery space for cats that couldn’t immediately be taken to the cafe, having learned some basic veterinary work for cats with basic injuries and ailments, though he’s still a frequent visitor to the local veterinarian office. He was the one that managed to convince John to retire in the first place, as he couldn’t stand seeing his boyfriend at the time kill himself slowly, and actually proposed the idea of starting the cat cafe after they had gotten married. He is also the reason behind why they now have 10 cats, and whenever he finds out John is having another adoption event, he tries to sneak in. It always fails, but it brings a smile to John’s face every time.
Kyle “Gaz” Garrick: The solo barista and self-appointed DJ, Kyle was the first to join John’s cafe only a month after it had opened, falling into his role the quickest out of all the employees. Charismatic, sassy, charming, and stubborn as a mule at times, he picked up on the recipes and techniques for making coffees and teas like it was second nature. Kyle gets people in and out of line at a record pace, and has the best recommendations for drink and pastry combinations for newcomers. Kyle was medically discharged from his role as Sergeant after an accident in a church during an operation, where a helicopter shot the floor apart from under his feet, sending him tumbling several feet too many to the ground before a chunk of what remained fell on top of him. Three of his lumbar vertebrae were fractured, his left sciatic nerve was damaged, and his right femur was broken. It took months of physical therapy before Kyle was able to walk without assistance, and even now, he still deals with intermittent back and leg pain. There’s a chair behind the coffee bar for him to sit on and John keeps his spare back brace in his office, along with plenty of pain meds and heat pads. Kyle’s found comfort and brotherhood with his boss and fellow employees, and when he’s not busy making drinks, he can be found chatting with Soap or cuddling many of the cats.
Simon “Ghost” Riley: Quiet and reserved, Simon is the lead baker and pastry chef for the cafe, having joined the team around two months after Kyle did. Often clad in all black clothing and sporting a black mask that covers his face from nose to chin, Simon prefers to stay in the cafe kitchen, working quietly on new pastries and making sure the display case is always fully stocked until the end of the day. Cakes, cookies, croissants, donuts, tarts, macarons, eclairs, cinnamon rolls; you name it, Simon can bake it, and he finds it very therapeutic too. Simon was also medically discharged from his role as Lieutenant after an incident involving a man named Manuel Roba, having been tortured physically and mentally before he was tossed into a coffin and buried alive, and while he managed to get revenge on Manuel, it left him more broken than he wanted to admit. After many tough sessions with a therapist, Simon knew he needed to start trying to do something other than rot in his apartment alone, so he took up baking as a hobby. Baking taught Simon that he was capable of more than destruction, that he could make beautiful things despite the dirt and blood that stained his hands. And when he landed his job under John’s watchful eye, Simon was able to put the pieces of himself back together with the help of his newfound brothers and some loving felines.
Johnny “Soap” MacTavish: Loud, boisterous, confident, chatterbox, all words used to describe one of the later additions to the cafe Johnny, who joined the team seven months after the cafe opened, is in charge of taking care of the cats directly. Whether it be organizing a feeding schedule, clipping their nails, giving them baths, brushing their teeth, or grooming their fur, Johnny is always busy. He’s also the only employee that’s allowed to use John’s credit card, seeing as he often has to go out shopping for food and treats and toys and whatnot. On top of all that, Johnny has also taken over as the cafe’s handyman, quickly fixing any problems that may arise; whether it be behind the coffee bar, in the kitchen, in John’s office, he can fix almost anything on his own or with an extra pair of hands. Johnny chose to leave his Sergeant role after taking a near-fatal shot to the side of his left temple, though some profound hearing loss from all the explosions he created certainly didn’t do him any better during his recovery process. It took Johnny a while to get used to his new hearing aids, and for a while, he detested wearing them because they reminded him of what he lost. Only after getting hired at the cat cafe did Johnny start to become more comfortable with his hearing aids, letting his newfound brethren decorate them to better fit his outgoing personality, and fitting himself effortlessly into their dynamic without disrupting it too much.
Gary “Roach” Sanderson: The youngest and newest addition to the cafe, Gary is the resident nightguard and secondary handyman to Johnny, having joined about a year after the cafe had opened. Gary is the quietest of all the employees, often only communicating through BSL or writing on a notepad that he keeps in his back pocket, but he’s the most expressive of all the employees despite that. He wears a tan face gaiter that covers him from nose to chin, and can sometimes be seen with two homemade antennae secured to his hair with small clips, which the cats love to play with. More often than not, Gary is only seen at night when he comes in to watch the cafe, but if Johnny ever needs a spare set of hands, he’ll come in to help when Nikolai isn’t available, albeit rather sleepily. Gary also chose to leave his Sergeant role after being betrayed by his general, getting shot in the chest and nearly burning alive before someone in his squad managed to save him. He was left with many burn scars and damage to his vocal chords after so much smoke inhalation, making his voice gravelly and painful to use for long periods of time, so hearing him speak is considered a privilege, along with a sign of trust among his fellow brothers in arms. After so long of feeling undervalued, underappreciated, and unconfident, Gary has found a place that sees his importance and makes sure he knows it.
Alejandro Vargas: Co-owner of the second of the three big cat cafes in London, Alejandro’s cafe takes in cats that are rescued from abusive or neglectful homes, spending countless hours of his time gaining their trust in order to get them comfortable around other cats and humans. He also took the time to put higher perches and hiding spots into his cafe for the cats during their adjustment periods, so he always lets patrons know that some cats are more skittish than others and to let those cats come down on their own accord. Alejandro is not afraid to confront patrons who disregard the rules that are set in place and has banned several people from coming back, though it isn’t something he particularly enjoys doing. Alejandro is still Colonel of Los Vaqueros, and now that they’ve finally started cracking down on the Las Almas Cartel and getting closer to putting El Sin Nombre behind bars, he’s allowed himself to take a step back and explore what else he wanted to do with his life. Still, every few months, Alejandro will fly out to Mexico to be back on the field with his team and even offers them jobs at his cafe for when they finally clean up the streets of Las Almas. When he’s not busy with the cafe or working in Mexico, Alejandro often visits the other cafes with his boyfriend, Rodolfo, who gives Alejandro a reason to stay safe while he’s away.
Rodolfo Parra: Co-owner of the cafe alongside Alejandro, Rodolfo, or Rudy as he’s better known as, is an everywhere all at once presence in the cafe, often floating between areas to help wherever it’s needed. Whether it be behind the coffee bar, in the kitchen, at the register, with the cats, or in the office with Alejandro, you’ll rarely not see him working. He also seems to be a cat whisperer, at least that’s what the patrons believe, as he’s the only person certain cats feel comfortable enough with to come down from their perches. Rudy’s clothes are also constantly covered in cat fur since there’s always a cat following him around, and they even enjoy climbing onto his shoulders like he’s their own personal chauffeur. Like Alejandro, Rudy is still Sergeant Major of Los Vaqueros, he’s just on a more extended leave per Alejandro’s request, or rather demand. After a building fire nearly took his life while they were searching for Hassan, Alejandro basically made Rudy take a break from work and join him as his cafe, and Rudy honestly found it both adorable and annoying how much Alejandro fussed over him. He’s finally being allowed to join Alejandro and Los Vaqueros in their pursuit of El Sin Nombre, and as annoyed as he gets with being under Alejandro’s watchful eyes, he wouldn’t change a thing. Reminds Rudy that he has someone who cares right next to him.
Phillip Graves: Owner of the last of the big three cat cafes in London, Graves and his cafe takes in exclusively black cats, giving the most misunderstood felines a second chance to find a home. A cat person at heart, he started his business in remembrance of his childhood pet, Speck. Speck was a grey ocicat that had garnered the nickname ‘Shadow’ thanks to how it would follow Graves around like his shadow. Graves created his business a few months after leaving the MARSOC Raiders, unable to stomach seeing so many men lose their lives while the Generals and Commandants sat pretty in their offices. He hires fellow ex-military men and women, and after a week of working for him, they become one of his ‘Shadows’. He cares very deeply for his employees, pays them handsomely, makes himself a part of their support system, and often hosts parties or celebrations at his home for holidays and birthdays. Graves will and has dropped whatever he’s doing in order to be there for his employees when they need it. When Graves isn’t busy working, he can often be found at the other cat cafes, simply acting as an annoyance in the corner booths he likes to inhabit. He’s a bit of a pain in the ass, but with his suave charm and southern accent, it’s impossible to stay mad at him for very long. Especially not when he breaks out his cat eyes or magically pulls the cutest cat from his cafe out from his jacket as a bribery tool.
Vladimir Makarov: Located near the heart of London is an upscale yet affordable pet hotel, owned by the passionate Makarov, that takes in a high amount of cats compared to any other pet, so much so that it’s now considered a cat hotel instead of a pet hotel. Makarov wants to give any pet that comes in through the doors a relaxing and lavish experience while staying, so he makes sure the rooms are furnished to a tee, the food is of the highest quality, everything is clean, and there’s always someone around to play with the cats so they don’t get too antsy. He also has a bit of a love-hate relationship with John and Nikolai, as while they’re some of his best and well-paying customers, their 10 cats can be such a headache at times. Sure, they can be the sweetest angels when they want to, but there’s something about being at Makarov’s hotel that turns them into the biggest menaces he’s ever seen. And they can act so spoiled, so Makarov has required the two men to bring food and toys from home so their cats will behave more often. Makarov’s business was initially met with some hesitancy, as he could come off as cold and unattached from an outside glance, and he had no issues with taking cats or other pets from owners that were clearly neglectful despite their protests. He has a close relationship with the other cat cafes because of this, and while he wouldn’t consider them friends just yet, Makarov finds himself appreciating his collection of acquaintances and how closely their businesses support each other.

(follow up to the anon that had a question about how time resets in the dl universe) how does aging work when it comes to the vampires? like how are the sakamakis already decades old when they were natural born vampires? can they even still biologically age? i also can't imagine any of the boys just letting her age instead of turning her into a vampire at some point 😭
// I’m pretty sure it was mentioned that the only reason they have assigned ages is because they needed them to blend into the Human World and attend Ryoutei Academy. The Sakamakis had also been living in Japan for about two years before Yui moved into their mansion, so those ages are relatively recent.
When it comes to vampire age, we don’t know the exact age gap between any of them. Based on their designs, though, Shu, Reiji, and Subaru appear much more mature than the triplets. They have longer, more defined faces, and they’re taller overall. That said, we know Subaru is the youngest, so maybe he’s just meant to look older.
Also, they can’t turn Yui/you into a vampire anymore because the heart rejects the vampire virus. I have no idea why Rejet thought this was a good idea… It just makes everything even sadder. ;w;

do you think (c!)etho’s hair is naturally white or that he dyes it 💭
was dyeing my hair today and considered this. on one hand hybrid etho with the features of an arctic fox or something of the like who has white hair, or just plain old a little bit cryptic etho yeah he has white hair.. apparently it’s natural! none of us have ever seen him dye it! but maybe!
on the other hand etho who has to bleach his hair every so often when his roots start showing. think it would be funny to imagine this and the thought then that someone (tango) finds the bottle of dye and switches it out for colour dye just to laugh when etho ends up with purple or blue or pink hair. maybe orange so he can joke that they match KEKW
also think etho with naturally white hair who dyes just a small portion of his bangs brown or dark red would be very cool
maybe pre hermitcraft naturally white haired etho feeling a bit out of place among everyone else, a bit awkward especially when he was a teenager, not wanting to associate with anyone but forcing the attention on himself with both the whole white hair thing, the constantly wearing a mask, and his scar over his eyes. and then getting on hermitcraft with all these… weirdos, some of which probably aren’t even human, who are accustomed to such stranger things than etho who’s just etho and who looks like that and who cares really! there’s other stuff to pay attention to!
so yeah just some thought
#also also the idea of etho having a different unnatural hair colour and also dyeing his hair white LUL#hermitblr#hermitcraft#ethoslab#headcanon#hermitcraft headcanons

As an autistic camper, I’ve never understood the whole man vs. bear thing.
I see men in the woods… all the time. I also see women in the woods. Even though my family and I go camping in a park that has very remote areas, you still pass people every few days, and, at the edges of the park, multiple times a day.
I’ve encountered men so far away from civilisation that we have to bring satellite devices in case we need to call for help because there’s no data coverage. I pass them on the trail and wave. There’s literally nothing weird about it.
I’ve never encountered a bear in the woods, and I hope that luck continues.
A bear in the woods is always a dangerous situation. But, to be honest, a man in the woods almost always isn’t. I mean, to some extent, it depends on context. If I was bushwhacking by my camp, off the trail, with no other camps nearby, and spotted this weird dude half-hiding behind a tree and staring at me… yeah, I would lose my shit. But I’d also lose my shit if it was a woman!
I’ve always felt like maybe I was taking it too literally? Hence why I specified that I’m an autistic camper. But it’s difficult for me to imagine a likely scenario where I’d realistically be scared more scared of a guy I saw in the woods than I would be of a fucking bear.
I feel like people (who’ve never actually spent a lot of time in the woods) are picturing a shadowy figure standing off in the distance and then a bear sniffing around in the brush. And yeah, one of those scenarios is more creepy. But it’s not because it’s a man vs. a bear—it’s because it’s a man standing weirdly in the woods for a reason you can’t understand vs. a bear happily living in its natural environment where you expect it to be. The man isn’t creepier because he’s a man, he’s creepier because humans are afraid of things we can’t understand and a dude acting strangely in the woods is harder to understand than a bear that we know is supposed to be there. So your brain fills in the gaps with fear. But just because one scenario you picture makes you more creeped out than another doesn’t actually mean it’s more dangerous and it doesn’t actually imply anything about real-life scenarios; especially if you’ve never even spent any significant time in the type of environment you’re picturing.
I think we should call out women's misogyny more often. My mom was the most misogynistic person I had ever encountered growing up. At herself, at other people. like she's better now, but woman left me some deep scars.

so i'm asking this bc i don't know who else to ask and you seem to be someone that educates others on these matters. i'm trying to learn more about endogenics and systems in general and i've been looking through a bunch of sources and generally it's been understandable (natural plurality has been around since the 80s and plurality isn't inherently disordered, etc).
however i just can't understand how you could have sentient entities (people) in your head that are separate from you and your own consciousness. a common rebuttal to this is that i (and other singlets) also have a person living in our head, but...i don't regard my internal monologue as a person. it's just my brain processing the world around me and churning out a mental response. i don't actually think there's a person in my head - my physical body is the person and my brain is in my head, if that makes sense? i believe that the thing that makes people "people" is that they have a body. so because plurals don't have multiple bodies, how could they actually be multiple people??
What defines a person is largely a philosophical question.
I would argue that a person is the identity. It's the memories and personality that makes someone up. I would refer to to John Locke's definition of a person as "a thinking intelligent Being, that has reason and reflection, and can consider it self as itself, the same thinking thing in different times and places."
To me, this is what a person is. This is distinct from the biological organism we refer to as a "human." A human who is brain dead, therefore, would no longer be a person. And neither would an unborn fetus.
If someone could download their consciousness to a computer, they would be still be a person. If another person downloaded their consciousness to the same computer, with divisions between their memories, they would still be two people.
The computer analogy oversimplifies a bit. But I hope it can illustrate the concept for you.
You've also probably experienced a form of pseudo-plurality through dreams.
When I discuss my essential features of a headmate...
The autonomy and perspective criteria appear to be fulfilled by dream characters. They lack memory and awareness of the world outside their dream, but they check the first two boxes at least.
You can't consciously control them, and they have their own perspectives and identities that are different from your own.
In my opinion, this is the most universal plural-adjacent experience.
If you want to imagine what being plural is like, it's sort of like that. Imagine if a dream character woke up with you and talked to you in your head. You couldn't see them except through your mind's eye, but you could hear their voice similar to how you hear your own inner monologue. And that voice can also hear your inner monologue and respond to it, making an inner dialogue between two autonomous agents in the same head. And sometimes, that other agent would be able to control the body the same way you do.

Arathorn was lovestruck. If he was any less of the man he was, he would've been down on his hands and knees, begging for you. He stood in earnest, the cold expanse of this unnatural world dividing you both. His stance was strong, even here; the gateway between the human world and the Feywild. Unkind and unloving, nothing could grow here and survive but they had crossed the threshold before and it hadn't shaken them. Perhaps they couldn't feel the crushing weight of this plane the same way that you could, smothering beneath it.
This was your only chance back to the moral, human world. All you had to do was throw yourself back into the starry waves that covered the wall and hope you didn't drown underneath them, that it was the portal you had sought after in this labyrinth. Your life relied on the riddles of creatures you could have never imagined to exist before— and the hope that you had solved their riddles right.
"We have reordered nature, we've turned the world upside down and we have done it all for you. Just fear us, love us, do as we say," Arathorn crooned, eyes beseeching, tearing through any barriers you could have put between you both to protect from them. You, he saw you completely, in absolute undress. How much closer to the gaze of God could you be?
Iliphar spoke then, finishing his counterpart's sentence. His hand outstretched to your own, becking you to cross the distance to them. "And we will be your slave. Anything you want."
The promise of their world is in your hands. It was an authentic promise, they would let you have it all, anything, as long as you stayed near and kept close underneath them. Obeyed them and never strayed. A life of prosperity, of more of anything than you could have imagined, in a place more rich in wonder than your world. Once, it had seemed a small cost for such a thing. Daydreams of it in your struggling, mundane life, far before you had been snatched away in the night by them like a helpless maiden in an old fairytale. Had they replaced you with another as well, so that nobody would come looking for you? A wild changeling, leaving nothing but madness behind for your loved ones.
Even if you returned, could you live with the maddening knowledge of their world? With nobody who would believe you except the outcaste and the crazy, who you couldn't be brought to believe a single word from yourself? Once, you'd heard a story from your grandmother about the same thing. A young woman went missing, only to reappear years later, in the same clothes she'd been wearing the day of her disappearance and not seeming to be aged a day. Gone mad, her death hadn't been long after her return. Would that be you, if you even survived the trip back?
Besides, you've seen the extent of their power. You're seeing it now, as they stand in this place right in front of you without so much as a shiver or sweat. They wouldn't let you go, they would go back in after you again and again if they had to. They already called you their spouse and to the end of all ends was their vow to you.
Their pleading was nothing more than a courtesy.
A/n: The poll is up for three days. I hope you enjoyed this little drabble and look forward to more, as well as some requests that I've had in my inbox being finished up soon. Sorry for the wait, life is a rollercoaster. 💜
