nothing will ever amuse me more than the fact that it is seemingly canon that the tng crew take yearly JC Pennys family photos like they're sending out Christmas cards to all the other starships. like that last one was definitely taken in a mall in like Wisconsin or something. Will always tries to convince them to do a silly one and the only people who are down are Data, Geordi, Deanna, and Guinan and he complains about it CONSTANTLY. Like MONTHS after he'll still bring it up. This is a yearly occurance.

Being Betazoid and meeting Data for the first time would include:

•frankly, utter bewilderment! There are of course, species that are immune to your natural ability, but eventually you in those moments you sense a living presence…with Data: nothing.

•you circle him a little bit like you’re checking him out, which makes Deanna chuckle, she’d had much the same reaction.

•Data himself doesn’t mind unduly. He stands still for you to make your observations. You see, he is also making observations, he’s spoken at length to Deanna about his desire to draw comparisons and research the differences between a half Betazoid and a full one. He’s read several hundred textbooks on the subject!

•you sit down in front of him, perplexed but grinning. ‘I think, Mr Data, we’re going to be friends you and I. You might be the only being in existence who could ever sneak up on me.’ You noticed his head tilt for the first time as he started to speak ‘I do have the ability to be stealthy and approach silently’ he confirmed. Deanna chuckled and then turned her attention back to you.

•she gasped to herself and smiled broadly. She didn’t need to be an empath to see that you were quite clearly smitten. With your legs swinging, smile sparkling; attention solely on Data, you were displaying clear signs of adoration. She quietly crept away, leaving you and Data to get to know each other.

Imagine our beloved Lt. Commander Data learning about the concept of "doing something as a bit" in his quest to understand humor.

He starts carrying around a pocket full of loose bolts, washers, any random little metal bits he finds.

Anytime someone asks him about it, he just looks them straight in the eye and deadpan says, "Snacks."

Roommate had the most INSPIRED Star Trek: Generations headcanon… She said that Kirk’s world in the Nexus is like that because in his perfect reality he’s straight. Kirk is never fully out to himself and he’s never been able to accept that part of himself that loves Spock romantically. So, that’s why we don’t see Spock in the Nexus with Kirk. Kirk uses the Nexus to live the “perfect” life he thinks he SHOULD have, not the one he desires.

When I’m not writing fix-it fics where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts, I like to think that, after Generations, Picard is the one who goes to Spock and explains to him what happened to Jim.

They’ve met before. They’ve melded before.

Picard melded with Sarek too.

They melded for a long time, while Sarek was very unstable, and Picard can never, ever forget it.

He’s integrated that experience as well as he could. He’s had a lot of practice integrating other people’s memories. He is Picard, and he is Locutus, and he is Sarek, and he is Kamin. But, usually, mostly, he is Picard.

But there’s a part of him that looks at Spock, never mind that Spock is older than him, and mentally calls him “son”.

Spock deserves to know what happened.

He deserves whatever closure he can get.

So Picard doesn’t just tell him what happened. He offers for them to meld again, and Spock experiences it, sees it, sees Jim die, and it’s painful and heart wrenching and awful but it’s so, so important.

He needed that. Needed to know.

Picard gave him a gift, the chance to see Jim one last time.

Picard has twice now ferried him memories from his deceased loved ones. He asks him not to continue making a habit of it, and it takes a moment for Picard to realize that Spock was making a joke.

Spock’s face is stoic, but his tears flow freely.

Picard understands.

Olympic Class idea

Had a (non-canon) idea about the Olympic class - what if it could saucer separate...

The two parts of the ship

Sphere - holds the warp core & associated systems, nacelles, general engineering, bridge, crew quarters, and crew facilities

Module - Hospital that can be sealed off from the main ship (in case of contagions). It has a shuttlebay to receive medical shuttles, docking ports for ships. Also probably a lot of transporters.

Why separate? Sometimes a hospital must remain in orbit of a planet for quite a long time. Why not have the drive do something else in the mean time.

The Sphere could dock with other modules

Colony Module - carries all the colonists, supplies, construction material etc. When delivered to site, the module becomes an orbiting space station, providing docking and transporter systems for supply ships.

Cargo Module - either bulk freight, or specialised hazardous material such as Neutronic Fuel. Ships going "where no one has gone before" need resupply now and again in the field rather than turn around and head back home for supplies.

Science Stations - manned or unmanned, easier to build at a construction facility than on-site near that black hole you want to study

Sensor Pods - the Olympic sphere could accompany science ships with large mission specific sensor pods. Planet scanning MRI machines for example. [side note: this is what I think the Oberth has - a large uninhabited sensor pod. Held away from the ship due to dangerous emissions. It was meant to be scanning the entire planet, not just surface scans.]

With separation, the Olympic goes from a single purpose to a flexible multi-purpose support ship.

In these pictures, it looks as if the mount for the nacelles struts is resting on top of the long body module.

The original model blueprints for the ship model had different nacelles - perhaps the sphere section had an in-universe refit.

If you wanted to modernise / refit an Olympic ship, taking out the one ship does not prevent the modules beings used by another Olympic in the meantime.

data headcanon/fanon from someone who has only watched the first season of TNG but wants to write a narrative fanfic GO

Data's code is strikingly similar to Lore's. Given the fact that Lore was created first, I'm inferring that Dr. Soong took Lore's code and only modified it to a point it would produce the results he wanted for Data. Like hardcoding speech patterns, and potentially placing a block on emotions.

Note that this is very different than removing emotion altogether. We can easily see that Data does feel emotion despite him saying he doesn't. This reminds me of repression in certain mental disorders like PTSD coupled with a lack of outward emotional expression sometimes seen in ASD. He also just thinks he can't experience emotion because he's an android, and traps himself in that thinking pattern.

Programmers, being naturally lazy as they are, would probably take an opportunity to simply block that code instead of work around its deletion. So if you removed this barrier, he would be able to feel a fuller range of emotion.

This can also help to explain why Data was over-emotional with the emotion chip. Instead of simply giving him the ability to feel, the chip was building on what was already there and caused double what it should have done.

"But automaton-enjoyer! He's a computer! He can't have mental illness!"

1. Look at Lore and tell me he's not a lil fucked up (lovingly). His tic can also be considered a neural malfunction. Also Data is autistic (also lovingly)

2. Dr. Soong's goal was to create a positronic brain, not a positronic computer/AI by itself. So it very well could function similarly to a human brain, but with enhanced memory etc etc.

3. If the issue was a blockage coded into him, it's less of a mental illness and more of just something that's there that has the potential to be removed. Also! Coding is rarely perfect, especially in something so complex! So the "issues" the brothers have could be errors too.

There's my ramblings! Do with it what you will.

Deanna discovering your affair with Picard includes:

•Deanna’s suspicions about the Captain have been aroused for several weeks now, somehow he’s more tense and secretive, while also being more relaxed and stress-free. It’s gotten to a point where she’s slightly questioning her own sanity.

•so she turned to Will and Beverley. They observe Picard and come to the conclusion that he does seem to be smiling more. At regular intervals he’ll smile to himself, run his upper lip and then tap away on a PADD for a few minutes before putting it down again and assuming his usual stoic persona. Will sees this and suggests that Picard has a new ‘lady friend’ that he might be messaging.

•Deanna goes full PI (Private Investigator) and starts to discretely follow the Captain- stating that she needs to ensure the ��safety’ of the Captain- meaning her curiosity wouldn’t let her rest! His routines for the most part remain unchanged…apart from he’s started to check in with the Stellar Cartography department (where you work as Chief) more frequently.

•Deanna watches as the usually nimble and graceful Captain seems to become a bit clumsy and short-sighted as he slowly, seemingly begrudgingly, exits from the work space as he’s summoned elsewhere. He very nearly walks into the wall- his embarrassment hits Deanna like a brick even from her hiding spot some meters away. As the doors quietly hiss close, Deanna just catches a glimpse of your flushed cheeks as you gently bite your lower lip.

•Deanna makes a point of reading up on your file. The more she reads; the more she smiles and her excitement grows. You’re perfect! A challenge for sure, but for Picard…absolutely perfect!

•Deanna’s suspicions are confirmed when you’re summoned to the Captain’s Ready Room one shift to discuss the implementation of a system’s upgrade and the forecast improvements to scanner range etc. it’s a small buzzing feeling at first, Deanna can sense that Picard is pacing in his Ready Room, slightly fizzing with what she perceives as anxiety. But then you walk through the door and…Deanna is awash with sheer delight. She can’t help but grin. The sensation of pleasure and happiness that emanate from you and Picard is enough to have a physical bodily reaction in her.

•she rushes straight to find Will and tell him what she knows…this is about to become THE worst kept secret on the Enterprise.
