Data and Geordi are the perfect autistic couple. Data's hyperfixations are humans and Geordi happens to be a good balanced example of Human. Geordi's hyperfuxation is mechanics and engineering and Data happens to be a crazy good example of android.

You mention Data to Geordi and he smiles and stims a little. You think it's because he's in love. It is. But it's also because you're mentioning his hyperfixation.

Same with data.

Data suggested they started a "romantic relationship" as an experiment on "human romance". Geordi accepted because how would an android work in a romantical situation. The answer to both question is that THEY would work real good in those situations, but just between themselves, for their matching hyperfixations. And so they actually fall in love.

I always love how Geordi is never truly weirded out by anything Data does or specifically if he does something strange when learning human behavior. Everyone else just gives Data this look because their weirded out but Geordi just looks at him and raises an eyebrow, and yeah he could be giving him the look behind his visor as well as the rest of them but I don't think so. He's never weirded out by Data's Data-ness just mildly surprised and questions him like "What do mean Data?" in a gentle voice

discovering star trek has been so impactful in so many ways, but what might be the most impactful is their existence of disabled people in a bettered society. a lot of utopian societies that are depicted in media emit all disabled ppl because “they’re now better than that now”. but star trek not only has disabled people, but a lot of their society’s most influential people were disabled. they show disability improving their life and they show the real struggles of it. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen another show or piece of media that does this so well.
