What does Tim say when people ask about his spleen?
Damian: I am updating my blackmail records. Tell me what happened to your spleen in its full hilarity.
Tim: I donated it to a sickly orphan.
Damian: You win this round.
———————
Tim: I have to be careful, I lost my spleen.
Carrie: How?
Tim: Aliens.
———————
Tim: I'm zero percent spleen and fifty-nine percent pizza sauce.
Helena: Zero percent spleen?
Tim: Yep. On the bright side, they named a disease after me.
———————
Luke: I've designed nanotech vitals trackers to be implanted on our spleens.
Tim: Oh, no thanks. I don't have one.
Luke: You don't have a spleen?
Tim: It wasn't paying rent so I evicted it. Lazy freeloader.
———————
Barbara: Why does your chart say you're missing a spleen?
Tim: I made a deal with the devil but I had a discount code so instead of my soul I just needed to sell a non-essential organ.
———————
Steph: What happened to your spleen? Are you okay?
Tim: I'm fine. It's taking an extended gap year.
———————
Harper: So... can I ask about your spleen?
Tim: Yeah, don't worry. I was part of a failed science experiment.
Cullen: What'd they do?
Tim: They injected me with a serum that was supposed to make me indestructible. But instead all I got were a spleen removal and chronic insomnia. And a free T-shirt.
Cullen:
Harper:
Cullen: Was it a nice shirt?
———————
Dick: What do you mean you don't have a spleen?!?
Tim: It was confiscated by airport security.
———————
Tim: Happy Pride! My spleen finally came out of the closet. And by closet I mean my body.
Kate: Diversity win.
———————
Tim and Jason: *arguing*
Jason: At least I still have my spleen!
Tim: It's genetic!
Jason: Sucks to be you.
Tim: We have the same dad. It could happen to you too.
Jason, scoffing: Whatever.
Jason, internally: Oh shit, he's right. I need to see Leslie.
———————
Tim and Bette: *sparring*
Bette: *hits Tim*
Tim: Ow. Time out. That was my spleenhole.
Bette: ...How?
Tim: It took a trip to the Titanic in a soup can with a Playstation controller.
———————
Duke: Since when did you have that scar?
Tim: Since losing my spleen last year.
Duke: How do you lose a spleen?
Tim: You forget to cherish it.
———————
Cass: ?
Tim: I digested it.
———————
Selina: You know I have to tell Bruce about this.
Tim: Okay, fine.
Tim: I had to get it removed as a kid after falling into a well of bats.
———————
Bruce: Tell me what happened to your spleen so Alfred and Leslie can give you the proper treatment.
Tim: What do you mean?
Bruce: Everyone's been telling me you don't have it.
Tim: Well, I do, so...
Bruce: Alright, I'll have a talk with them about bad taste pranks.
———————
Alfred: You can't keep the truth from me, Master Tim.
Tim: Assassins stole it.
Alfred: I wasn't born yesterday. Now what really happened?
Tim: ...

EVERYTHING WAS A BLUR. Levi's hand trembled slightly as he gripped the serum, his fingers curled tightly around the vial, knuckles white from the strain. The tension was palpable in the air, an invisible force pressing down on everyone in the room.
Hanji, their expression torn between determination and desperation, struggled to restrain Mikasa, whose eyes were blazing with fury and anguish. Mikasa strained against her hold, her voice a mix of pleading and anger, begging Levi to make a different choice. Her cries cut through the stillness like shards of glass.
Floch, across the room, had Eren pinned against the wall, his hands gripping Eren's shoulders tightly as if afraid he might bolt or collapse. Eren's gaze was distant, hollow, his body slack against Floch's grip, but his eyes bore the weight of countless decisions, each heavier than the last. His expression was unreadable, lost in a place between determination and resignation.
She stood there, apart from it all, her heart heavy as she watched the scene unfold before her like a cruel play, its lines and actions repeating over and over. The echoes of past decisions, of choices that had led them here, resounded in her mind. She had seen this before — not just once, but a thousand times, in a thousand different ways, and each time it felt like another piece of her soul was being chipped away.
A thousand times of sorrow, a thousand times of pain, of grief that seemed endless.
She wondered if perhaps that was all she
To her left, she saw Bertoldt, the traitor, sprawled on the ground, unconscious. His face was contorted in agony even in his unconscious state, his body broken and torn apart. The lower half of his legs were missing, replaced by grotesque, steaming stumps where flesh met air.
Steam hissed from the wounds, curling upward in thin, wavering wisps, dissipating into the cold air. His betrayal had come at a cost, and now his once formidable Titan form seemed pitiful, a broken shell of what it had been.
A few feet away lay Armin Arlert, the boy — no, the young cadet — who had been burnt alive by flames so fierce they seemed to have etched themselves onto his very bones. His skin was charred, blackened, and blistered, his small frame twisted and fragile, like a crumpled piece of paper.
His bright eyes were closed, his breathing so faint it was almost undetectable, and yet there was a strange calm about him, a finality in his stillness. She felt the echo of his screams in her ears, a phantom pain that gnawed at her insides. The fire had claimed him, scorching through his entire being, leaving behind only a husk of who he once was.
And then… there was him.
Erwin Smith stood beside her, tall and unwavering, his presence like an anchor amidst the chaos. His face was set in that familiar, resolute expression, eyes sharp and determined.
But beneath the surface, she saw the toll this day had taken on him — the weight of all the lives he had led, the burdens of countless decisions, each one chipping away at the man who had carried them all.
The dirt and blood on his skin were like war paint, symbols of a struggle that was not yet over. His breath was steady, but his gaze betrayed the weariness of a man who had pushed beyond his limits.
When it came to injury and blood, you were used to it. When you lay together, the smell too was heavy. And yet, it was all different now. Now that no breath echoed through him. No longer housing a soul, this husk of a shell.
His hand hovered near hers, so close that she could almost feel the tremor in his fingers, the slight hesitation that spoke volumes. He was right there, standing beside her, as he had so many times before. In his presence, she felt the push and pull of conflicting emotions — admiration and anger, faith and doubt.
He was a symbol of everything she had fought for and everything she had lost. She didn’t need to look up to know his expression; she knew it too well, had memorized every line of his face, every flicker in his eyes.
The scene before her was an unending cycle of torment and choice. Her eyes moved between the bodies, the broken figures of the living and the dying. Erwin, Bertoldt, Armin. Each name weighed heavy in her mind, each a testament to the violence and agony that had become their existence.
How many times had she witnessed this? How many times had she stood at this precipice, feeling as if the world was about to shatter into a thousand irreparable pieces?
Erwin’s presence beside her grounded her in that moment of harrowing clarity. For all the sorrow and pain she had known, he had been a constant — a reminder that even in the face of utter hopelessness, someone had to keep moving forward.
"We're giving the serum to Erwin, that is that!" Levi's voice rang out with a ferocity that left no room for argument, cutting through the chaos like a blade. The finality in his tone was unmistakable, a command that brooked no defiance.
Yet, even as he spoke, the young Jaeger cadet, Eren, continued to cry and scream, his voice raw and desperate, pleading with Levi to save his friend. His words were a frantic chorus, a manifestation of the anguish in his heart, but they fell on deaf ears. The redhead, Hange, quickly pulled Eren back, her face a mask of determination mingled with grief.
"Everyone away from here! In this place, we're going to revive Erwin," Levi barked again, trying to maintain his focus, trying to shield his resolve from the relentless tide of emotion that threatened to engulf him.
But then, there was Mikasa Ackerman. The girl with the dark eyes and the fierceness of a storm. She moved with a fluid grace, her muscles coiled like a spring ready to release. She lunged forward, her face contorted in a mixture of anger and heartbreak, her hands reaching out as if to claw back what was slipping away.
For a long time, she had seemed like a machine, all cold steel and sharp edges, but now… now she was anything but emotionless. There was something burning in her eyes — a ferocity that came from the depths of her soul, from a place of profound love and an equally profound loss. She felt as deeply as any of them. Perhaps even deeper. Deeper than Levi, deeper than Hange, perhaps deeper than anyone she had ever known.
And then, everyone left. One by one, the cries and shouts faded into the distance. The decision was made. The line was drawn. The living had been pulled away, leaving only the dying and the few who dared to remain.
But she stayed.
She could not move, could not bring herself to step back into the shadows and let it all fade away. She remained, rooted to the spot, as if by some unseen force, watching as Levi, with deliberate steps, approached Erwin. The tension in the air was thick, and Levi’s gaze was fixed on Erwin, his face a mask of conflicting emotions — determination, regret, sorrow.
Levi halted suddenly, his steps faltering as he noticed her there, kneeling beside Erwin. He hesitated, his brows furrowing. He couldn't read her expression; her face was an enigma, a puzzle that eluded him as much as Erwin's own had so often done. He studied her, but her eyes, her mouth, the set of her jaw — none of it gave him any clue. She seemed as much a mystery as the dying commander beside her, caught between life and death, between decision and indecision.
Without a word, she reached out, her hand brushing gently against Erwin's golden hair. She could feel the dirt and grime that had settled there, the earth that clung to him like a shroud, as if the ground itself sought to claim him before his time.
Her fingers trembled slightly as they moved through the strands, feeling the weight of the dirt, the roughness of the earth that seemed to signify all the burdens he had borne.
Her touch was tender, almost reverent, as if trying to convey a thousand unsaid things, a thousand unvoiced apologies and regrets, all in the delicate brush of her fingers through his hair. There was something sacred in this moment, something that felt like a goodbye that hadn't been spoken, a final connection to a man who had been so much to so many — a leader, a savior, a man with a dream that had carried them all forward. Your...your lover.
Erwin and you had never said anything about it. Labels weren't really what you both were able to say. Permanence was a rarity in your world, after all. A tie to humanity was a bane to the shoulders carrying the weight of the world. And yet....yet both of you know it. Felt it. Knew it.
Levi's gaze never left her, trying to decipher the meaning behind her touch, trying to understand what she was thinking, what she was feeling. But her face remained unreadable, a canvas of calm amidst the storm, as she continued to stroke Erwin's hair, her breath shallow, her heart pounding in her chest like a drumbeat, matching the rhythm of a life that was slipping away.
In this moment, she felt the gravity of the choice they were about to make, the choice Levi was about to make, and she wondered if there was any right answer in a world so torn apart by suffering and sacrifice. The world seemed to narrow down to this single moment, this single touch, and she realized with a sinking feeling that whatever happened next, nothing would ever be the same.
"Y/N," Levi called out, his voice cutting through the stillness as he stopped a few feet away from her, urgency lacing his words. "Get away from him. We're running out of time."
Her eyes didn't leave Erwin's face, but her response was swift and firm, "Don't make the choice for him." She turned her gaze to meet Levi’s, and in her eyes, emotions swirled and collided — fear, sadness, resolve. Emotions that danced just beyond his understanding. "Not this time."
Levi's brows drew together, his frustration evident. "Huh? What do you mean, you brat?" He didn't have time for this, not now, not when every second mattered. He needed her to understand, to see reason.
"You chose for him before," she continued, her voice quieter now but no less forceful. "And he took it to heart. There will be no point in this." Her gaze fell back to Erwin, her hands brushing gently against his skin as if she could soothe him even in this state.
"There is," Levi shot back, his tone blunt and unwavering. "Erwin lives."
She shook her head, and for the first time, he saw the sheen of tears brimming in her eyes. "What for?" she whispered, her voice barely more than a breath, yet it carried the weight of her breaking heart. "Levi, you'll be bringing him back to hell. There is no need for him to… to see it all over again."
"Y/N—" Levi began, his voice faltering slightly.
"I saw it today, Levi," she interrupted, her words almost a scream, yet they came out in a low, choked sob, thick with the grief clawing at her throat. "You freed him, and now you want to cage him again? That's enough, please…"
Levi’s eyes softened, if only for a moment, as he watched her turn back to Erwin, her movements tender and deliberate, as if any sudden motion might shatter what little was left holding her together. He saw the way her hands trembled, the way her lips quivered as if she were on the verge of breaking. “Oi…” he started, but the words died in his throat, replaced by a quiet bewilderment. "You want him to die?"
She closed her eyes, tears spilling over and tracing paths down her cheeks, and when she looked at him again, her expression was raw and open, the pain evident in every line of her face. "
I love him," she replied softly, her voice filled with a sorrow so deep it seemed to echo in the very air around them.
She leaned down, her lips brushing against Erwin's brow in a gentle, final kiss, her hands cradling his head tenderly as if trying to imprint this moment into her soul. If he was alive, he would have smiled at her. His own orbs looking at her face, as though memorizing each and every muscle, each and every expression, each and every moment. But he would never do so ever again.
"I prepared myself for this moment long ago, Levi. That’s why I'm letting him go to rest. As you should."
Levi felt something shift inside him, a familiar ache he had tried so hard to bury now resurfacing with a vengeance. He stared at her, her words sinking in, crashing against his resolve like waves against a crumbling shore. For a moment, he faltered. Her plea echoed in his mind, mingling with the memories of Erwin's countless sacrifices, his relentless drive, his dream that had become a curse. Levi knew that she wasn't asking for Erwin to die; she was begging for him to be free.
He felt his chest tighten, felt the weight of her grief pressing against his own. He had seen so much death, so much loss, but this — this was different. This was a plea from someone who had loved Erwin not just as a leader but as a man, who had seen him not as a symbol or a figurehead but as a human being with fears, dreams, and regrets.
“Y/N…” he whispered, almost helplessly, his hands tightening around the serum as if it could somehow solve everything, make everything right. But nothing was right. Nothing had been right for a long time.
She held Erwin close, her tears falling freely now, soaking into his dirt-streaked hair, her body shaking with the force of her sobs. "Let him rest, Levi," she whispered, a broken prayer against his skin. "Let him go where he doesn't have to fight anymore, where he doesn't have to be a soldier. Let him have peace."
Levi’s hand dropped a fraction, his gaze torn between Erwin’s still face and the woman kneeling beside him, her own spirit breaking right before his eyes. For once, in this world of endless battles, he felt the ground shift beneath him, felt the weight of what it meant to be a human in a world that seemed to forget what humanity meant.
In the silence that followed, he heard the quiet beat of his own heart, heard her quiet sobs, and he wondered if there was ever truly a choice in this place of unending suffering.
Levi looked down at the syringe in his hand, its weight seeming to grow heavier with every passing second. His gaze shifted to Erwin's still face, then to Y/N, her eyes pleading, full of pain and something deeper — something that touched a place in him he rarely let himself feel. He took a deep breath, steadying himself, feeling the full gravity of the decision pressing down on his shoulders, a burden he could scarcely bear.
He made the choice.
His hand moved, quick and certain, not allowing himself to second-guess, to hesitate any longer. He turned away from Erwin, his feet carrying him toward the burned and broken body of the young boy, Armin Arlert. Without a word, Levi injected the serum into Armin's arm, pushing the plunger down, watching the clear liquid disappear into the boy's veins.
There was no turning back now.
He stepped back, and it wasn't long before the transformation began. Armin's body twitched, convulsing violently, his eyes snapping open with a look of wild terror. He gasped, his mouth opening wide as an unearthly scream tore from his throat, a sound that echoed across the broken landscape, a sound that seemed to pierce the very heavens themselves.
His skin crackled and smoked, his limbs flailing as if possessed by some primal force. It was a cry of agony, of rebirth, a sound that spoke of pain and confusion and the violent struggle for life.
"(Y/N)…" The soft murmur caught her attention, pulling her gaze away from the horrific sight of Armin's resurrection. Her heart seized in her chest as she lowered her head, her eyes falling to the parted lips of her dying lover, Erwin Smith.
His voice was barely a whisper, so faint she almost missed it amidst the chaos around them. She was certain he didn't know she was there beside him, even after all these years together, all these battles fought side by side, all these nights spent dreaming of a future that seemed so close and yet so impossibly far away.
"Let's… listen… to my… father's stories again..." Erwin's voice was broken, fragmented, each word a struggle, a final breath barely escaping his lips. His eyes were glazed, unfocused, his body limp in her arms.
Those were his last words — a quiet request from a man who had lived his entire life in search of the truth, a man whose heart had been filled with endless questions and doubts. He wanted to go back, back to those days when things were simpler, back to when he had believed in the stories his father told him, back to when there was still a chance to believe in something more.
She listened, tears streaming down her face, each drop carrying a piece of her breaking heart. She felt his pulse slow beneath her fingertips, felt the warmth begin to fade from his skin. She felt his heartbeat — once strong and steady, the rhythm that had carried him through countless battles — slow to a stop. She could no longer feel it, the silence deafening in her ears.
"You died in my arms, my love." she whispered softly, her voice breaking, her body trembling with the weight of her sorrow. She held him close, cradling his head against her chest, her fingers running through his hair one last time. "Just like you wanted…"
Her words were a quiet lament, a final goodbye. She had known this moment would come, had prepared herself for it, or so she thought. But now, with his lifeless body in her arms, all her preparations felt like dust in the wind.
She had loved him with everything she had, had believed in him, had stood by him even when the world seemed to crumble around them. And now he was gone, leaving her with nothing but a shattered heart and a memory that would never fade.
She held him, her tears falling silently, mingling with the dirt and the blood and the sweat that covered them both. She held him as if by doing so, she could keep him a little longer, keep him from slipping away entirely. She held him because it was all she could do, because in the end, there was nothing left but this — this final act of love, this final goodbye.
Levi stood nearby, silent, watching as she wept, his own heart heavy with the weight of the choices he had made, with the price of their survival. He had chosen life for one, and in doing so, had condemned another to death. He knew there were no right answers, not in this world, not in this hell they lived in. There were only choices, and consequences, and the burden of living with them.
Levi and Hange stood side by side, their eyes fixed on the scene unfolding in the distance. The young cadet, Armin, devoured the traitor Bertolt with a savage ferocity that seemed almost inhuman. Steam rose from his new, massive form, swirling around him like a shroud. It was a sight both grotesque and tragic — a boy forced into monstrosity, into survival by any means, at the cost of his innocence.
Hange turned away from the chaos, her gaze softening as it fell upon Erwin’s lifeless body. Her fingers reached out, trembling slightly as they brushed over his eyelids, closing them gently, tenderly, as if she could somehow grant him the peace he had never found in life.
Levi turned his gaze to her, watching the grief that etched itself into her features, the quiet sorrow that hung in the air between them. He could see it in her eyes — the mourning for a comrade, for a friend, for a leader whose dream had been left unfulfilled.
"He's gone," Hange whispered, her voice barely more than a breath, each word heavy with emotion. She pursed her lips, struggling to maintain her composure, to keep herself from breaking. Erwin had been their anchor, their constant, and now he was gone.
"Perhaps it's better this way." Levi replied with a soft sigh, his own voice tinged with a rare vulnerability. "He won't have to be in his hell anymore."
His eyes flicked back to Erwin's face, still and serene in death, free from the burdens that had weighed him down for so long. He couldn't help but think that maybe, in some small way, Erwin had found the peace he had never known in life.
Nearby, Floch’s brows furrowed in confusion and disbelief. He watched Y/N, still holding Erwin’s lifeless body, her hands running through his hair as if memorizing the feel of each strand.
“Why…” he began, his voice trailing off, unable to grasp why she seemed so calm, so accepting of what had happened.
Y/N's mind drifted back to a moment long ago, a memory that played like a silent film in her mind. Erwin’s voice came to her, clear and steady, even as his body had been failing.
‘If I were on the verge of death this mission… Y/N, let me face it and rest.’
She could still feel the warmth of his hand on her cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin with a gentleness that belied the harsh reality of their world.
She had taken his hand in hers, squeezing it tightly, holding onto him, holding onto the promise she had made. ‘Promise me.
"He wanted to rest." she said, her voice barely above a whisper, her fingers continuing to dance through his hair as if in a trance. Each touch was a farewell, a quiet goodbye to the man she had loved, to the dreams they had once dared to share. "This was his final choice."
‘I promise.’ she had whispered back then, her voice trembling with the weight of what she knew would come. She had made that promise, not understanding then how much it would cost her, how deeply it would cut.
Now, as she held him in her arms, she understood. She had kept her word. She had let him go, had let him find the peace he had sought for so long. It didn’t matter what others thought, what they questioned or doubted.
She knew what he wanted. She had known him better than anyone, had seen him not just as the commander but as the man beneath — the man who had carried a burden too heavy for one person to bear.
Her voice trembled with love and pain as she whispered once more, "You’re free now, Erwin. You’re finally free."
Levi glanced at her, recognizing the truth in her words, the inevitability of what had happened. There was nothing left to say. They had lost so much, sacrificed so much, and yet somehow, they had to keep moving forward, keep fighting, even as their hearts bled for the ones they’d left behind.
The air hung thick with silence, broken only by the distant rumblings of the newly born Titan, a sound that seemed almost distant compared to the weight of their loss. Levi’s eyes lingered on Y/N, her face shadowed with grief but also with a strange sense of serenity, an acceptance of what had come to pass. He could see it in her expression, in the way she cradled Erwin's body with a gentleness that spoke of deep, unwavering love.
Hange's breath hitched as she moved closer to them, her eyes searching Levi’s face for some form of reassurance, for some hint of what he was thinking, what he was feeling. She had seen him make countless choices before, seen him bear the weight of the world on his shoulders, but this… this was different. This was a choice he had never wanted to make.
“Levi…” she began, her voice soft, almost hesitant. “Do you think… do you think he knew?”
Levi's gaze didn’t leave Y/N. He took a moment before answering, his voice low and rough, like gravel underfoot. “I think he knew.” he said quietly. “I think he knew exactly what he wanted. And he made sure we understood it too, in his own way.”
Hange nodded slowly, understanding, though it didn’t make the pain any less sharp, any less real. She looked at Y/N, seeing how tightly she held onto Erwin, how she seemed to draw strength from his lifeless form, even now.
“He loved you,” Hange whispered, their voice filled with a quiet, knowing sadness. “He really did. You were his reason… for so much.”
Y/N nodded, the tears falling freely now, her heart breaking all over again at the words. “I know.” she replied, her voice catching in her throat. “And that’s why I had to let him go.”
Levi felt a pang in his chest, a rare, raw emotion that he rarely allowed himself to feel. He turned away slightly, trying to hide the tightness in his eyes, the moisture gathering there despite himself. “We should… we should get moving.” he said, his voice gruff, more of an order to himself than to anyone else. “There’s nothing left for us here.”
But Y/N didn’t move. She stayed where she was, holding Erwin close, her fingers still tangled in his hair, her eyes closed as if she were trying to memorize the moment, to imprint it into her soul forever.
“Just a little longer..” she murmured softly, more to herself than to anyone else. “Please… just a little longer.”
Levi hesitated, his heart aching as he watched her. He knew the pain of losing someone, knew it far too well. And yet, he also knew the strength it took to let go, to keep moving forward when everything inside you screamed to stay, to hold on, to never let go.
“We’ll give you that,” Hange said quietly, a soft, understanding smile on their lips despite the tears in their eyes. “Take your time, Y/N. As much as you need.”
Levi nodded, finally turning his back to them, his gaze shifting to the horizon, to the future that lay ahead of them, uncertain and filled with shadows. “We’ll wait.” he added, his voice softer, more human than it had been in a long time. “But not too long.”
Y/N nodded, her eyes never leaving Erwin’s face, her heart aching with the knowledge that this was the last time she would see him, the last time she would feel his presence, his warmth, the strength that had always been there, guiding them, leading them, even in their darkest moments.
She leaned down, pressing her lips to his forehead one last time, a final kiss, a final farewell. “I’ll always love you, my love.” she whispered, her voice breaking, her tears falling like rain. “Always… until my last breath.”
And with that, she let him go. She released him from her arms, from the pain of this world, from the burdens that had weighed so heavily on him. She stood slowly, feeling the weight of her grief settle into her bones, a heaviness that she knew would never truly leave her.
Levi and Hange watched, silent, as she rose, as she took a deep breath and turned to face them, her face streaked with tears, but her eyes filled with a quiet, resolute strength.
"Let’s go." she said softly, her voice steady, though her heart was shattered. "We have to regroup now."
Levi nodded, a rare, almost imperceptible smile touching his lips. "Yeah."

i just know that one of Dick's favorite movies is The Devil Wears Prada.
so here's me presenting a few lines from the movie that Dick definitely uses in his daily life.
---
Dick, with a stuffy nose: B, what time does the gala start tomorrow?
Bruce, frowns: It will begin at 7 in the evening. But hey, Chum, you feeling alright? It seems as if you have a cold.
Dick, pinches the bridge of his nose: No, no. It's nothing. I'll be okay.
Bruce: You sure? I mean, Tim and Duke will be there. You don't need to-
Dick: I'm not sick, B. I'm not sick. I refuse to be sick, I'm wearing Valentino for crying out loud.
Bruce, blinks: Um. Yes, yes you are, Chum.
---
Dick: Little Wing, what are you wearing??? I told you to wear the grey and black top with the black boots. I put that together for you! Why are you wearing that jacket instead?
Jason, rolls his eyes: To be honest, Dickface, I don't really care about what I'm wearing.
Dick: You should cus fashion deserves to be cared for!
Jason: I don't give two fucks about that stuff.
Dick: Stuff? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select… I don’t know… that lumpy black jacket for instance because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back...
Jason, rolls his eyes: You're really quoting to me? To me?
Dick, groans: We get it, Jay, you're the literate one. I can read too, ya know.
Jason: You mean repeat that movie over and over?
Dick, blushes: Hey, you watch it with me!
---
as Nightwing ties up the goon, he stares at the shirt he's wearing.
Goon, spits blood on the floor: What are you staring at, Wing?
Nightwing, clicks his tongue: You have no style or sense of fashion.
Goon, blinks: What does that have to do with--
Nightwing, shakes his head: No, no, that wasn't a question.
---
Batman, shoving the goon on the wall, growls: Talk!
Red Hood, his hand on his holster: You better start opening your mouth or I'll blow it up.
Goon, shivers from fear: Fine, fine... It wasn't me. I was paid an amount.. I needed--needed the money.
Red Robin: Then what was the kid doing in your apartment???
Black Bat looks like she's ready to knock the goon out any minute.
Goon: It wasn't me, I swear. Please, believe me. I'm innocent. It was-
Nightwing, raises his hand: Details of your incompetence do not interest me.
the rest of the Bats look at Nightwing. white lenses of their masks or cowls would definitely scare anyone. especially when they're staring at you like that in the darkness.
Nightwing, smiles: What?
---
Dick, finishes the information of their plan: Okay, that's it. Does anyone have any questions?
the rest of the Titans members either shake their head no except Wally, who is smiling up at Dick like he's the sun.
Dick: Oh, to add, don't forget to have the serum on your suits as the toxins in that planet may be deadly. Okay?
the Titans nod at him.
Dick, smiles at his team: That's all.
Donna, giggles: So how many times have you seen The Devil Wears Prada this week, Boy Wonder?
Wally, shakes his head fondly: I think it's too many to count.
Dick, laughs: No one shall judge me.

I’ve been thinking lately about how much the ‘curse of Ymir’ really does affect the psyche of each of the nine shifters and how it impacts the ending of the story.
Up until the end of Season 3/Chapter 87-88, the reader and the viewer have no idea that the shifters have a limited amount of time to live. They seem to possess this god-like power and they can rejuvenate and survive almost any injury. They seem unstoppable.
This is what motivates Erwin to create a plan to take one of the nine shifter powers with the serum- having another Titan in your arsenal would make a difference in winning the war.
But what the Paradisians don’t know is how holding the power of the Nine just perpetuates a cycle of violence and cruelty. It’s a curse as much as it is a power. No matter how brilliant or grand your scope is for what you can do with this near limitless power, you have to contend with the fact that you will only have thirteen years to do it.
This revelation to me is the what colors the entire last arc of the story leading into and after the time skip.
For Zeke, it amps up the level of desperation he has for accomplishing the euthanization plan- relying on Eren was still a variable that was largely unpredictable, and he trusted him more than he probably would have if he weren’t running out of time.
Going back further in the story, it retroactively explains why Ymir (of the cadet corps) would go back with Reiner and Bertholdt at all- a seemingly nonsensical choice when it seems she has something to live for in her relationship with Krista/Historia. But Ymir knows she has little time left. She has no future. So she chooses to surrender.
For Annie, it shows her desperation to get back to her father, a man who showed her very little affection, and yet if she could just make it back maybe she could live at least a year or two with him and make at least one happy memory with the man who raised her to kill.
Armin, I honestly feel the most for, because what he and everyone else thought of as his salvation, was actually just saddling him with a curse. And heaps of responsibility to try and be grateful for it. He went from a character with a singular and wholesome conviction, to someone wracked with guilt and forced to solve the world’s problems with limited time and resources.
In Reiner’s case, I actually think the fact that he knows he is going to die is the only thing actually keeping him alive in the tail end of the story. He wants so badly to face retribution for his deeds, and he can only find the strength to keep towing the line because he knows his violent demise is guaranteed.
Characters like Pieck and Bertholdt seem to accept their lot in life- but deal with this internally and develop their own sense of morals despite it- albeit in different ways and in Pieck’s case with a shade of pessimism. Falco and Marcel stand out as a characters who see the farce for what it is- but still want to subject themselves to it in order to prevent someone they love from suffering through it in their place.
Eren, though, it’s easy to see how discovering he has already lived more of his life in powerless ignorance than what he has left is what ultimately causes the collapse in his character. Combine that with the way that he sees ‘future memories’ and doesn’t see any future beyond his own, and suddenly you have a naturally impulsive and violent person living in the most fatalistic reality ever. It makes perfect sense that his fall from grace is near immediate and precipitous.
What difference does all that power make if all it means is that you become a tool for destruction with no future? That you will be forced to curse someone else so that this cruel power will continue to exist? That is the true legacy of Ymir and the Eldian Empire- you can have near limitless power, but you will never have true control over your own life.
And it makes for such interesting discussions and questions about power and mortality and agency- and all the seemingly ‘correct’ and ‘incorrect’ ways to respond to their dilemma.
Anyway, it is always ‘thinking about the moral quandary of the titan shifters’ hours around here…

herofy the green goblin
Answering this separately from the person who requested Norman Osborn....
Norman is his usual self- cold, calculating, ruthless, abusive, and a titan of industry- but the Goblin Persona, with whom he crucially shares no memories, is a fun-loving showman in the vein of The Creeper. His debut appearance in Amazing Spider-Man 14 consisted of him approaching Spider-Man on friendly terms with an offer to shoot a movie together- which turns out to be a trick to lure him into an ambush where the other supervillains Spidey is meant to fight are played by the real guys. Then the Hulk shows up. But in this hypothetical, the movie deal is genuine. So are the supervillains- why hire actors when you can get the real thing?- and then The Hulk still shows up. It's still a bad time! But it was never a plan to pre-emptively kill a superhero as a prelude to building a criminal empire. He just thought it'd be fun.
And you go on for a while like that- the Goblin's not trying to get anybody killed, he's just stirring the pot in fun and interesting ways. He helps Spider-Man out and then switches sides mid battle like Peter Pan. Things always have a way of panning out that it's more trouble than it's worth to chase after him and things are slightly better for his having shown up than they would be otherwise. What's a little mob war between friends?
Working off residual memories from when he's in his Norman persona, he'll often hit Oscorp's corrupt enterprises and terrorize corrupt city officials and industrialists associated with Oscorp, creating the false impression that he's a disgruntled ex-employee when what's closer to true is that he's Norman's deeply buried conscience acting up. He's also playing a lot of fun cat and mouse keeping his equipment, hideouts and plans safe from Osborne, who's smart enough to notice that the goblin only appears when he's lost time, and only after he first started dicking around with that serum- he's stopped taking it, but the goblin's smart enough to make more and take it when he's got control of the body. He's also pointedly criminal enough as The Goblin (albeit in a palatable PR friendly way) that Norman has some incentive to pour some resources into covering his alter ego's tracks, much as he might like him squashed for good.

The Jaws of Those Most Beloved
Erwin Smith x reader
Tumblr media
Notes: fix it ending where Erwin is administered the titan serum even though it’s not really mentioned, small bit of biting, praise, Erwin calls you ma’am because that’s hot af, titty sucking with a well endowed reader, on that note: nursing handjob, a sprinkle of chubby reader, dacryphilia, the actual smut doesn’t last very long because Erwin cums pretty much the moment he starts thinking about how much he loves you.
3.2k words
A small blurb for: @flametrashira
Big thanks to: @seaslugfanclub who saved my ass by being a pre-reader and editor! Thank you, Neptune!
The tiniest bit inspired by the song ‘Rule #34 by Fish in a Birdcage, covered by Justine’s mic’.
As nervous as I am about posting this, I strongly believe this is one of the best things I’ve ever written-
Summary: Overworking himself as per usual, Erwin finds salvation in the tender caresses from you that his body craves, yet his mind struggles to accept the notion he is worthy of such care.
——————————————————————————
Shadows danced and created monstrous silhouettes across the walls of Erwin’s study, the candle he had lit slowly burning as he poured over plans and preparations late into the night. The ink that flowed from his quill seemed to blot and merge in the low light, and Erwin found himself struggling to write despite the words flowing steadily through his tired mind. His hair, the same golden hue as church bells, slowly started to become more unkept as the minutes ticked by, cerulean eyes scanning the same sentence repeatedly in an effort to process what he had written. And yet, for all he tried, both words and thoughts continued to evade him, as faint as the smoke from the candle wick as the flames devoured it.
A faint knock, promptly followed by the creaking of his office door opening is what shook the commander out of his stupor. The image of you entering his study, a plate of warm food obviously intended for him in your hand, was all too enchanting, the haze in his mind simultaneously lifting and becoming maddeningly worse.
“Beloved…. It’s late, you should be in bed… I’ve just a few more documents to complete and I will join you.”
A soft huff left your tantalizing lips as you set the plate down on his desk over top of papers, the ink having long dried whilst he was in a daze, and ignoring the soft pout on his exhausted features. You were all too familiar with Erwin and his tactics; he would tell you he would go to bed once he was finished, stay in his office for longer, and then when you would go check on him he would be out cold. He was always plagued by nightmares at those times, the warmth of your touch gone and unable to stave away the loneliness, the dead bodies, the blood on his hands and conscious.
“And how is it that I should go to bed, yet you stay up without food in your belly as you slave away over papers? You need to eat something and then be done for the night, honey.”
“But beloved-”
“Erwin.”
Oh. You were using that tone, the one that makes shivers run down his spine and his heart leap into his throat, the one that makes him unable to do anything but surrender to you and the sensations you ignite in him, body, mind, and spirit. You knew the way that tone affected him, you always had, and you sure as hell knew it now as he blushed to the very tips of his ears. It was all too entertaining to watch the normally stoic and composed man start to crumble, to witness Erwin Smith, humanities commander, huddle into himself and start playing with his fingers as he avoided your gaze.
“Now you listen to me, Erwin love. You are going to stop working, eat your dinner, and then I am going to help you change into sleep clothes before you collapse from exhaustion. Understand?”
“Of course, yes…”
“Yes what?”
Searing heat started pooling in Erwin’s belly, his face growing hotter as he folded his calloused hands in his lap with a sheepish expression to hide his growing arousal, a small murmur leaving his lips as he replied to you.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“That’s my good boy~”
You giggle softly, taking his head in your warm hands to tilt his face up to look at you as you stroke the sharp structure of his cheekbones. If you looked close enough, you almost felt you could see where the shifter scars around his blue orbs had been.
“Look me in the eyes when you’re talking to me though, honey. You know better, I’ve trained you better. Right?”
“Yes ma’am, you’re right, I know better.”
Strong arms wrapped around your waist as Erwin nuzzled himself against your soft middle, just below your chest. You couldn’t help the small coo that left your lips as you ran your fingers through his hair, the gold locks just barely peeking out over the rim of your breasts and your nails scratching his scalp so deliciously gentle that it made his chest ache with love.
“Is there something you’re wanting, baby? Hm?”
“Beloved, ma’am, I was… I was wondering if you would touch me… please, ma’am, I-I need it...”
Softly biting your lip, you let out a pleased hum as you force him to face you again. Big blue eyes blink guiltily up at you beneath thick brows, and from what you can see of his collar bone you know he’s already blushing down to his chest which lets you know just how needy he truly is already.
“Dinner first, but then I believe you’ve more than earned it. Do you want me to feed you?”
“Yes please, ma’am.”
Erwin always felt safest when he had your weight on him or underneath him, a fact you keep in mind as you make yourself comfortable in his lap and begin feeding him bites from the plate, your thick thighs caging his own in the mahogany chair. You could tell his cock was already starting to harden the second you sat down, the bulge in his uniform trousers only growing when you gave him a small peck on the lips, his mouth chasing yours without a second thought when you pulled away before you were able to reign him in again.
“Easy, sweetheart… I can’t exactly feed you if your mouths not free~ And the longer it takes you to eat, the longer it’ll be before I can give you some attention~”
Reaching one of your hands under the plate in your lap, you gently palm him through his pants. Your reward being a subtle roll of his hips and a small keen, his heavy thighs flexing under you as he tried to hold you closer.
“My apologies, ma’am. I didn’t intend to be… bad… I love you…”
It was adorable, truly. Every time Erwin did something he feared may disappoint or upset you, he would immediately follow it up with an ‘I love you’ and got incredibly distressed if you failed to say it back in a timely manner, as though fearing he would lose your love despite how many times you had assured him you would be with him for eternity.
“I love you too, Erwin. Always will.”
That pulled a smile from his full lips before he conceded, allowing you to go back to feeding him as he tried to ignore the throbbing ache in his groin. After a few quiet minutes of making sure he had food in his tummy, Erwin finally finished all of his meal, slightly hiding his face in you neck with a soft whine as he realized you could feel his heavy cock twitch in anticipation.
“Ma’am, please…”
“I know, I know, baby… you’re so pretty when you beg, you know that?”
Another brilliant flush coated the commanders features, when you called him “pretty”. It truly was the simple praise and soft gestures that did your love in, you thought to yourself as you pulled him in for a soft kiss, a stark contrast to how your hands began trailing over his chest. The way Erwin’s lips molded against yours was as seemingly as natural as breathing to the blonde man, a huff of relief leaving him through his nose causing warm air to tickle across your cheek as you began to slowly undo his uniform top. The first time you two had kissed, Erwin had adorably tried to strategize how your lips were meant to connect with his own, his brows furrowing slightly as he had studied your face to determine the best possible angle before you decided to just go for it and pull him in. The thought of that first kiss causes you to chuckle tantalizingly against his lips, the vibrations pulling a small moan from his throat as the kiss starts to heat up.
Your fingers move to play with his collar, gently peeling away the fabric of his uniform top to reveal his flushed and sensitive chest, the muscles in his pecs heaving with the effort of catching his breath after you pull away.
“So beautiful, love… I don’t know what I did to deserve such a handsome and well behaved good boy…”
A swell of hot pride and arousal at being called ‘your good boy’ bubbles in Erwin, the praise going straight to his dick as he wraps his arms tight around you.
“I’m so lucky to have you, ma’am, not the other way around… thank you for seeing me, for being here with me, for loving me. After all the things I have allowed and done for humanity, I know that I’m hardly worthy of this, of you, and yet I find myself so deeply enraptured by you, I’m unable to function without your presence.”
Now that sure as hell got your blood pumping as you leaned in and began pressing a flurry of kisses to his cheeks and nose, Erwin all but melting into a pile of lovey goo. Slowly, you began to press small and heated kisses down the side of his neck, letting your teeth snag on heated skin and relishing in the small stutters of air that escaped his parted lips.
“Ma’am, please, right there! Oh- Please!~”
You knew exactly where he was talking about. Erwin’s sweet spot was located on his upper neck, just under his ear and towards his nape, a fact that you often found yourself abusing whenever he was within reach of your teeth. Running your hand through his disheveled hair, you found yourself giving in to his whims and sinking your teeth in deep, the sharp bones creating ravishing bursts of red and purple not unlike a painter creating art on a canvas. Pitiful mewls more musical than the finest orchestra graced your ears between breathless cries of gratitude as you gave the newly formed bite a tender kiss.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, ma’am… it feels so good… thank you….”
To Erwin, being between your jaws as they tore at his flesh was nothing short of paradise, the fact that you would choose to mark him of all people with bite marks that would last for days inducing in him an intoxicating blend of obedience, love, and arousal.
Placing one last kiss to the tip of his nose, you stand up despite the quiet protests that emanated from your beloved as you coax him onto the couch in his study.
“Come here, sweetheart… let me see you, pretty boy.”
A soft huff of amusement left you as you witnessed the tall man scramble to get up, uncharacteristically panting and stumbling over himself like a three-legged dog before finally coming to a halt in front of you.
“Where and how would you prefer me, ma’am?”
“On your back over my lap. But first, go ahead and take off your bottoms for me, love.”
You can’t help the soft giggle that escapes you as you watch Erwin’s hands tremble, wrenching so hard at the fabric of his pants and boxers that most would have thought they were burning him alive. You smiled amusedly as you caught Erwin subconsciously attempting to hide his (rather large) arousal with his hands, not missing the way his eyes followed your own as they went to remove your shirt and bra, nor missing the small whimper that left his throat once your breasts had been freed from their confines. It had always been a favorite action of his to smother himself in your chest when the sun set and he was free of the days intensive labor. As comedic as it was, you legitimately had to remind him to come up for air, lest he suffocate.
“All right, sweetheart. On my lap.”
“Yes, ma’am. Thank you, ma’am.”
Carefully, out of fear of accidentally hurting you, Erwin moved to lay his broad back over your thighs and felt himself subconsciously nuzzle against the pudgy, soft skin of your stomach. A keen left his throat as he felt your hand gently cradle the back of his head, your other smoothing over the expanse of his chest languidly as you took in the feeling of his muscled torso. In your eyes, Erwin was nothing short of a heavenly vision laid bare for you, fingers gently tracing over full pecs and quivering abs, paying no mind to the little aborted thrusts of his hips as you knew he was trying to be good for you. He always was.
“Ma’am, please… may I…”
Ocean eyes stared up at you pleadingly as a giggle came unbidden from your mouth. Erwin was always shy when it came to making requests of a sexual nature.
“May you please what, Erwin? Be a good boy for me and use your words like I taught you.”
“M-My apologies, ma’am. May I suck your breasts? Please?”
“Of course, honey~ Such a good boy for using your words…”
Gently stroking his hair, you move his head into proper position and immediately feel him latch on to your breast, rough hands gently cupping your chest and trying to pull you impossibly closer. Erwin’s eyes flutter closed as a small whimper of relief escapes him, his tongue hungrily lapping at your nipple and his cock twitching from where it lay on his belly; oozing a steady stream of precum and his tip a beautiful shade of red. You feel him gently palm at your chest, his hands caressing the skin and marveling at the way the pudgy tissue is hardly contained by his fingers
“So handsome for me, Erwin… I’m so proud to call you mine…”
Opening his eyes to look at you, Erwin felt tears swiftly collect on his waterline and overflow en mass down his cheeks. He wanted to say that he was the lucky one, that he was so undeserving and unworthy of your love and touch after everything he had done and put others through… instead, all that comes out is a muffled sob as his sucking becomes more intense, the vibrations around your nipple pulling a small pleased hum from your throat. Moving your hand down, you softly scrape your nails through the dark honey colored hairs around his shaft and balls; relishing in the little buck of his hips and the broken moan that reverberates against your skin.
“I can tell what you’re thinking you know… and I want you to know it’s not true. You are deserving of all I give you and you’re such a good boy, no matter your opinion. I love you, and nothing will ever change that.”
Another broken sob comes from your love followed by his neglected dick twitching pitifully against his muscled tummy, the appendage practically weeping for you like its owner; who searches to grab at your hand that’s resting under his head. Giving him a small smile, you adjust yourself so you can hold Erwin’s hand and keep him on your breast at the same time, relishing in the small sniffle of relief it pulls from him as his eyes flutter closed again despite the tears leaking out from behind his lids.
“Such a good boy, so, so, so good for me, Erwin…”
To emphasize your point, you allow your fingertips to gently trace up the underside of his shaft, feeling along the vein that runs from his tip to his sack. It’s pleasurable torture to Erwin, the touch so light and ticklish yet maddening stimulating that he can feel himself jump. Finally, you wrap your hand around his cock, beginning to stroke him at a languid pace and watching as his heavy thighs twitch. It’s obvious he’s trying to keep himself in line and stop his hips from humping into your hand like a puppy in heat, his fingers tightening around yours as his small cries are muffled by your breast.
“There we go… feels a lot better now, hm?~”
Opening his teary blue orbs and nodding his head, Erwin found himself lovingly looking deep into your eyes with blurry vision as his back arched in pleasure. His broad chest was positively heaving as your fingers spread rivers of his own precum against his overheated flesh to slick him up, making your movements seamless as lewd wet sounds filled the room to make his head spin in the best possible way.
Letting go of his cock and ignoring his broken whine, you run your hand lower to fondle his balls, feeling their weight in your palm as you give them a gentle squeeze.
“You’re doing so good letting me give you what you need, sweetheart. Always so pretty when you’re all fucked out…”
Chuckling softly at the frantic roll of his hips your praise got out of him, you give his balls one last squeeze before going back to stroking him, picking up the pace as Erwin’s toes curl, the pleasure making him feel as if he’s been electrocuted ten times over. More tears stream from his eyes, both of relief and of pure, ever reverent love. The kind of love that sears through his jagged edges and holds him together, the kind of love that encases his heart in a suit of gold, that keeps him going despite the odds and the despair that threatens to overtake him every day. The thought makes his cock feel like it’s about to burst, pulsing in your hand as he feels his muscles draw up and flex. As if reading his mind, your voice speaks in a soft murmur;
“Go ahead, love. I want you to cum for me.”
That was all it took. One last keen left his lips as his body spasmed, hips humping uncontrollably into the tight tunnel of your fist before waves of pleasure crashed into him so intensely he could have sworn he was drowning. Continuing to work him through his orgasm, you watch lovingly as hot, thick ropes of cum spill out of him so hard that it almost reaches his chest, the pearlescent liquid glimmering in the candlelight. Feeling his cock give a few more throbs as he drains his balls onto his tummy, you gently unwrap your hand from around him to rub soothing shapes on his thighs.
“You did so good for me tonight, Erwin… I’m so proud of you…”
Finally finding the willpower to pull his mouth away from your tits, Erwin gazes up at you with adoring eyes and murmurs lowly;
“Thank you, beloved… thank you for letting me be yours, thank you for loving me…”
Gingerly helping him sit up, you grab the towel you had brought with his dinner beforehand and start to wipe him up as he nuzzles into you, placing soft kisses against your skin as he leans into your shoulder.
It was here that he felt most safe, cradled in your arms like he was something precious. You were his sanctuary, the only place he truly felt he could be forgiven and cleansed of the blood that coated his conscious so thoroughly, and he would be damned if he didn’t submit himself to kneel at your altar as soon as the opportunity presented itself. This was where he belonged, this is where he sought solace. Here with you.
His most dearly beloved.

Damn Finals...
I think we've all been in Hunter's position before. Hunter would 100% have test anxiety, so finals would be a nightmare for him. He'd probably relapse back to his Golden Guard studying habits. No rest, no breaks, no food. Just pure focus on studying. Darius and Eberwolf have to interviene and make sure he's taking care of himself and assure him he doesn't have to be perfect.
Fun Fact: I spent over half the time making this just writing out all the text. It was more effort than I expected, that's for sure.
For those wondering what everything says, here's the list.
Potions Textbook:
Laughter Serum
Laughter serum is a potion that makes anyone who drinks it incredibly delirious. It is very powerful, even in small doses. The drinker will not remember anything they did while affected once the potion wears off.
Love Potion
Love potions inflict intense feelings of love. They only work when the drinker is already in love. Asexuals are immune. This potion has been controversial since its invention. Being made illegal to sell and brew since the Deadwardian Era.
Construction Textbook;
Construction Glyphs
Power glyphs can be used for all types of magic. In Construction magic, power glyphs greatly enhance the magical capabilities of the wearer. Any spell casted will be up to triple the strength then it would be without the power glyph. Construction power glyphs have been highly controversial since its invention. Wearing one during a witches duel is considered cheating, making the wearer automatically lose. Construction power glyphs are also outwardly and completely banned in ALL magic sports.
Abominations Textbook
Abomination and Tech
Within the past 150 years, magic and technology have been brought together. Abomination magic was heavily by the Blight family for generations. Notably, within the past 20 years, Alador Blight significantly advanced Abomination technology. Abomatons are the most advanced Abomination magic technology in history. In the Empire era, the Emperor's Coven funded the development of Abomatons for the Day of Unity. In the Republic Era, Abomatons have been made illegal for safety.
Hunter's Notes (Most are obscured)
Laughter serum makes you go cuckcoo. You don't remember anything once it wares off. Love potions are ille-
Power glyphs can be from every kind of magic. The most contentious being construction power glyphs
The Blight family was key to advancing tech with abomination magic for entire generations.
 Abomatons
Magic and technology are starting to go hand and hand. Alador was big for the progression of abomination magic.
Construction glyphs make you much more powerful. They are Contentious and considered illegitimate in witches duels and all magic sports

I HATE THIS STUPID FUCKING CLASS
I'm so screwed for potions just end me now
DO NOT FAIL the abomination final. What would Darius say?
Don't even bother studying for wild magic you tryhard. You know everything about that! Studying for everything for 10 other classes is ENOUGH.
YOU CANNOT FAIL.
I feel like I'm studying like I did back as the Golden Guard

Man, all these people who claim that Levi made the "wrong" choice when he chose Armin, claiming that the outcome of the story would have changed or been different if he'd just chosen Erwin, essentially blaming Levi for the Rumbling, conveniently never have an answer when you actually ask them what Erwin could have done differently to change the outcome. That's because there isn't anything Erwin could have done to change the outcome, short of somehow, magically, discovering what Eren was really planning when no one else could. How Erwin would have been able to do this, who can say, since Eren didn't tell anyone about his plans other than Floch and Historia. I guess Erwin really was just that much smarter than everyone else, including Armin, even though, you know, Armin discovered that Annie was the Female Titan through simple observation and the same with realizing Reiner was hiding in the walls in Shinganshina. Isayama didn't set up Armin's exceptional observational skills for any reason. Nope. Just an arbitrary detail he put in, since Isayama's so known for including superfluous information in his story (insert heavy sarcasm here).
If Armin wasn't able to discover Eren's true intentions, despite being infinitely closer to him than Erwin and spending far more intimate time with him than Erwin would have been able to, why do people think Erwin would have gleaned Eren's true intentions when Armin or the others couldn't? Even Levi, who'd had Eren pegged from the start and understood what he was better than anyone, who's widely acknowledged at being better at reading who people really are than anyone, wasn't able to see what Eren really had planned. Eren himself didn't even know exactly what he had planned until he saw the future, and even then, he remained in deep denial about it, pretending to himself that he wasn't going to go through with it.
But we're supposed to believe, according to these people, that Erwin would have been able to see what Eren had planned when Armin, Levi and even Eren himself didn't know and was in denail over up until the point they were in Marley. These same people also want to claim that Floch never would have been radicalized if Erwin had lived, but that's bullshit. Floch was already radicalized, from having to charge to his death against the Beast Titan. He came out of that situation wanting to make Erwin suffer for leading them on a death charge, under the belief that Erwin was the "devil" they needed in order to win against their enemy. Floch's radicalization had nothing to do with Levi's choice in who to give the serum to. It had to do with how over a hundred soldiers had to give up their lives in order to keep the hope for humanity's future alive, and how Erwin led them and convinced them to do so.
But let's suppose Levi had chosen Erwin, then. Would it have changed Floch's decision to collaborate with Eren?
The answer to that is no.
Either Erwin would have supported Eren's plans or come up with some other, similarly aggressive plan to deal with the outside world, or he wouldn't. If Erwin had refused to deal with the outside world with a mercenary attitude the way Floch wanted (i.e. in a way lacking humanity, wiping out everyone, essentially), Floch would have turned to Eren, and the same outcome would have resulted. Floch never accepted the limited Rumbling plan. That wasn't enough for him. He wanted the whole world wiped out. We see this in the way he intentionally targets innocent civilians during the raid on Liberio. He wanted Erwin to be chosen because he believed that Erwin was devoid of humanity, because of how he'd led 100 new recruits to their guaranteed deaths. Because of that, he believed Erwin would do whatever it took to win, no matter the cost.
If Erwin had shown him something less than that monstrosity, it wouldn't have satisfied Floch. So Erwin choosing to go with Zeke's proposed plan wouldn't have satisfied Floch, either. It wouldn't have been extreme enough for him. The only thing that would have been, would be Erwin choosing to eliminate all of humanity beyond the walls, i.e. going with Eren's actions. If he'd refused anything less than that, again, Floch would have turned to Eren. Either way, they end up down a path of death and destruction.
If people think Erwin would have succeeded in negotiating with Marley where Hange and the scouts failed, again, wrong, because he never would have even been given the chance, just like Hnage and the others were never given the chance, because, again, Eren went rogue and disappeared. Again, unless Erwin was somehow able to magically discover Eren's true intentions before they left for Marley, when up until that point, Eren himself was still in denial over it, then the outcome would have been the same, whether Erwin was with them or not.
People that claim Levi made the wrong choice and "doomed humanity" as a result, also routinely fail to acknowledge just how done Erwin really was. There's a reason Levi talks about not wanting to see Erwin become a "devil". I've talked about this at length already, so I won't repeat myself here. If you want to read more in depth about my thoughts on how Erwin's dream had begun to corrupt him and threaten his humanity, you can do so here: https://www.tumblr.com/cosmicjoke/737098651561787392/sorry-to-keep-reblogging-this-it-just-keeps?source=share But to go into it briefly, these same people who want to deny the significant role Armin played in Levi's choice, and how that speaks heavily to how Levi was very much considering what was best for humanity at that point, also want to deny that Erwin was in danger of losing his humanity if he'd been forced to go on living and leading the SC. The denial of this blinds them to the fact that, in Levi's view, what humanity needed was hope. It didn't need a leader who was broken by his own guilt and cynicism and self-loathing.
Just before Levi is about to inject Erwin with the serum, Erwin begins mumbling in a delirious state, talking to his father and asking about the outside world. He's still in the grip of his dream. Still, in his dying moments, possessed by it. He has nothing beyond that. That's what that moment shows us. He's just given up his dream by charging the Beast Titan to his own death, knowing death was the only thing that COULD release him from that dream. While he still drew breath, that dream consumed him. The idea that these people posit is that Erwin would have recovered from the loss of his dream by finding a "new dream" to be drunk on moving forward, and that would have allowed him to continue on as an effective leader. But what this take fails to acknowledge is how Erwin's guilt most assuredly would have been exacerbated by the discovery of the truth, not alleviated by it. He would have been met with the crushing disappointment of what that truth was. Yes, his theory that humanity existed beyond the walls would have been proven true, and thus his father's correctness. But beyond that initial vindication for Erwin, he would have been met with the bleak reality of their situation. That all those lives he'd sacrificed for his dream, for the discovery of the truth, would have amounted to nothing more than the hopeless realization that the rest of the world wanted them all dead. Instead of finding freedom or an answer to their hopes, they'd instead found themselves pushed further into a corner without hope of escape.
That wouldn't have lessened Erwin's guilt, it would have worsened it. There's no way Erwin would have felt that disappointing reality was worth all those lives he'd sacrificed. And that's where Levi's fear came in of what Erwin might become. Why he tells Floch Erwin would have to become a devil if he'd continued on as their leader. He was in danger of losing his humanity to his guilt and self-hatred. He might very well have been driven mad by that guilt without the distraction of his dream to shield him from those negative thoughts and emotions. There's a reason the panels show Levi recalling in this moment asking Erwin what he would do once he discovered what was in Eren's basement, and Erwin answering he didn't know. There's a reason Levi recalls Kenny saying to him that we need something to be "drunk on" in order to continue living. People that claim Erwin would have been fine love to ignore all of this. They love to ignore just how ruinous Erwin's pursuit of his dream had been on his psyche. And I'm not talking about whether the self-loathing he felt was earned or deserved. That question is irrelevant. It's irrelevant because whether deserved or not, it's what Erwin felt. He hated himself, and felt overwhelmed by the guilt of what he'd done, and the discovery of the truth and the realization of his dream wouldn't have assuaged those feelings. It would only have made them worse.
And that was never what humanity needed. It didn't need someone who'd been turned bitter and hopeless and filled with despair, the way Erwin was, that bitterness and despair likely only to become worse with the realization of his dream and its ugly, disappointing reality. His guilt would have only increased with the realization that the world all those soldiers under his command died for, that he convinced to die for, was an impossibility. It would have made him feel all the more as if he'd lied to them all, and sent them to their deaths for nothing. Again, to think Erwin would have been able to easily recovery from this, or move on and continue to lead in the wake of this, is absurd and fails to acknowledge the depth of Erwin's inner turmoil and suffering. To continue on in that role, after these revelations, after the confirmation that he'd convinced all those soldiers to give up their lives for a lie, would only have increased his self-hatred. The very fact he would have had to continue to lead is what would have threatened the loss of his humanity, ultimately, because there's no way he could have continued to operate in that role under that much crushing guilt. Retaining his humanity would have meant drowning in despair. Forfeiting his humanity would have meant turning into Floch or Eren or Zeke. In order to keep operating as the leader of the SC, Erwin would either eventually succumb to his guilt and be rendered useless, paralyzed by his self-doubt and fear, unable to bring himself to tell the lies, or what he believed were lies, required to inspire people to action, or he would truly have had to divorce himself from all sentiment and feeling, uncaring that he was lying and sending people to their deaths for nothing. And that, in the end, would have been a disaster, both for Erwin himself, and for humanity.
Levi says he doesn't regret not choosing Erwin, even as the Rumbling unfolds beneath him, and it's because he knows and fully believes that what humanity needed was someone that still believed in it, someone that still believed in it being worth saving, someone that still believed and had hope in something better, something beyond war and death. That was Armin. That's what Eren's own speech he gives to Levi, trying to convince him to choose Armin, is about. How Armin is this person who can see beyond fighting or thirst for revenge. How he's the person who will save humanity because he believes in that ideal future.
Levi says "I entrusted the future to that kid who had the same look in his eyes as all of you,". He literally says it. "I entrusted the future". He's very literally saying he trusted in Armin to carry humanity forward into the future it needed. That he specifically chose Armin for this purpose. That Armin's idealism was as much a consideration to him as Erwin's own suffering. These people love to talk about Levi saying "I chose this place for Erwin to die" while ignoring him saying later to Erwin "I didn't choose you", meaning he did choose Armin. It was as much a choice for him as it was for Erwin. Both of them weighed equally in Levi's decision. I don't understand how these people that claim Levi's choice was all about Erwin just completely ignore this line. It's so utterly disingenuous to do so and I think they know it. I think they know it's disingenuous to frame Levi's choice as if Armin wasn't just as important and significant in it as Erwin.
And I don't want to hear the argument that Levi was saying Armin's purity and the innocence of his dream was "the same" as Erwin's. Again, this is a disingenuous argument from these people, twisting Levi's words and their context to fit their agenda. Because they know deep down Levi wasn't comparing Armin's purity and the purity of his dream to Erwin, he was comparing it to the collective hopes and dreams of the soldiers of the Survey Corps, to all of his fallen comrades who offered up their lives in the belief it would help create a better, freer world. A "stupidly idealistic world", as Levi puts it. Armin's dream was akin to that. He wanted to see the ocean, he wanted to explore a world he believed was filled with wonders and beauty. He believed, even after the discovery of humanity beyond the walls and the reality of their hostility toward them, that there was beauty and wonder to be found and experienced. He never lost faith in that conviction. Armin's dream was one rooted in hope and belief and joy. That's what made it pure, and that's also why he was able to give it up so readily, because in its innocence, it didn't consume or define him.
Erwin's dream wasn't pure and anyone who claims otherwise is either full of it, or they seriously don't understand Erwin at all. Erwin's dream was never pure, because it was a dream rooted, not in hope and belief or joy, but one rooted in guilt and shame and a longing for atonement. He wanted to discover the truth not because he thought it would lead to a better world or to experiencing something beautiful, but because he was desperate to escape from the crushing guilt he felt over his father's death, and the belief that he was responsible for it. That's the literal opposite of purity. That's wretchedness and shame and self-loathing driving Erwin's dream, from the start. That's not an innocent dream able to be let go, that's a weighted shackle round his neck, threatening at all times to pull him under and drown him. And in the end, that's what had begun to happen to Erwin. That's what his dream had begun to do to him.
Armin encapsulated the dream of the Survey Corps, through his innocence, though the purity of his dream, through his belief that there was still a world out there worth discovering, worth exploring, worth experiencing, despite the bleak reality of their situation. Nobody believed in humanity's worth or its future more than Armin, and that's why he was the right choice. Because humanity needed someone who believed in it and its future. Ignoring Armin's role in Levi's choice is to fundamentally misunderstand why Levi made the choice he did in the first place. It wasn't only for Erwin's sake. It was for humanity's sake, too. And that really is supported, also, by the fact that Levi chose the humane option of not dragging Erwin back into the role that had left him with only more pain and guilt. He chose compassion, both in allowing Erwin to rest, and in choosing a boy who still held hope for humanity.
