Jin Guangyao blinks before senses start to return to him. He blinks again at his father (how is he alive? shouldn't he be? should he?) who's looking at him expectantly. He turns his head and sees Lan Xichen (oh, Er-ge...) looking at him benevolently and beside him Nie Mingjue (oh, Da-ge...) frowning in displeasure but for once - not at him. And then he remembers. Everything. For a second his smile falls and his eye twitch, he's incandescently furious inside. Then the mask slips back. But he's changed.

He bows.

-Sect Leader Jin, this one is honored by your offer, but as you clearly stated before, this one's a whore's son and not fit to be in the Jin Sect. I acted on my own since I left the Nie Sect so all the deeds I may have done are beholden to me only. If Cultivational world sees fit to reward me, I will humbly accept on my own behalf.

He leaves and later receives his rewards but mostly withdraws, waiting.

When Wei Wuxian comes to find his Wens he intercepts and goes with him. They make it in time to save Wen Ning's life and many more prisoners than the last time.

He follows Wei Wuxian to Yiling but stops him from going to the Mounds.

-I was gifted the city of Yiling and some land around it, Wei-gongzi. There's no need to live in the graveyard.

He proceeds to sponsor Wei-Wen people, while coercing and manipulating Wei Wuxian in creating or doing all sort of things (like fixing the Nie's saber problem) until Wei Wuxian finds himself a well connected and supported Sect Leader of Yiling Wei Sect with two most able and ferocious advisors, and also a single father of a three-year old. Single until a very well written proposal to Sect Leader Lan goes from Yiling. Lan Wangji comes with courting gifts before the week ends.

Same year, after a Qin related scandal, Jin Guangshan is deposed as Chief cultivator. Meng Yao becomes the next one with the backing of all great sects and Yiling Laozu. Jin Sect doesn't get a break until Jin Zixuan becomes Sect leader.

time travel fixits are one of those things i'm embarrassingly into and i've been thinking about how one would work from a 3zun perspective for a while now bc, imo, there actually is a "correct" answer for who gets to go back and it's lxc.

bc like. i think jgy and nmj would probably agree that their get-along coffin was not the fate either of them really wanted but also! they both, from what i remember from my read through, were both pretty consistent in not really regretting most of their actions bc they acted in the ways that their life experiences and ideals dictated was "right." so while them getting yote back in time would still make for some really interesting storytelling, i think making lxc and actively face and confront the turmoil in the triad is just a very tasty idea and has a lot of potential that jgy and nmj as much more active characters maybe don't.

alternatively send all 3 back and have lxc desperately trying to stop nmj from busting into a brothel to throw hands with a ten year old.

Then, when he did wake up, he called him xiongzhang.

And as if that wasn't enough, he hugged him!

A-Zhan, the boy who hates physical contact since their mother's passing, hugged his brother on his own accord!

Do I make myself clear?” The Jiang boy struggled against Lan Wangji’s steady hold for some time until his vision blurred. It was only after his vision started spotting that he made an attempt to nod. He was thrown to the ground like discarded trash after Lan Wangji decided his answer was acceptable. For now. As Lan Wangji left and the Jiang Sect Heir choked on the ground, coughing up a storm, the rest of the guest disciples still stood frozen in their place.

Hey do you think pre-sunshot LXC was so supportive of LWJ getting along with WWX, so he would have at least one friend who isn't outright intimidated by him because he didn't want LWJ to be as lonely as he was?

Because while LWJ was also an heir, it was very much fixed that LXC would be the next sect leader, so obviously they beat down on him harsher than they would LWJ.

Every time we see LXC pre-sunshot is either him with LQR or on a night hunt or preparing for some sect related things and unlike LWJ who is comfortable by himself he clearly does not exactly love it.

Of course he's still gonna do it because of responsibility but that doesn't mean LWJ has to suffer the same loneliness he does.

So what I am thinking it pre-sunshot LXC doing the typical eldest sibling stuck in a strict family not wanting his younger sibling to have to put up with the same frustrations and giving him a way out.

Like yes, go on befriend that little chaotic boy who is actually very talented and adept and can hold his ground in front of you. You know you finally met someone who is your match so don't be afraid to get close, you have the option so don't waste it.

And then do you think LXC felt like he met his own match when he met Meng Yao on the run? Not just because he saved him but because they could understand each other's defense mechanisms where they both politely smile even when they want to stab people.

The saddest thing about me and xicheng is that I am incredibly interested in only one very specific iteration of this ship that is literally impossible because the versions of the characters do not exist at the same time. That is, I'd love to see what would happen if you put a Jiang Cheng less than 3 years removed from Wei Wuxian's death and a post-canon seclusion Lan Xichen in the same room together.

Here we have POV Wei Wuxian on a time-travelling Lan Xichen, who stands up for him when he first asks after the Wens after Wen Qing came to hime for help. Wei Wuxian is mostly passive here, as Lan Xichen takes the lead, and I absolutely love it. Suddenly, he finds himself in the Jingshi, with Lan Wangji taking playing with A-Yuan and wonderung: Huh... How did I end up here again? Super great and hopeful story! Excerpt: “Er-ge,” Jin Guangyao steps forward from beside his father’s seat, ready to smooth things over with his sworn brother. Lan Xichen calmly turns his head to meet his eyes, head tilting in a gentle gesture of encouragement. Although… There seems to be something off about it. Something coiled, something sad, something devastated. Wei Ying is confused. A quick glance at Lan Zhan shows him that it clearly isn’t his imagination either, the merest of furrows between the Second Jade’s brow as he watches Zewu-jun. Like, Lan Zhan, too, might be uncertain what to make of his brother’s uncharacteristic demeanor at the moment. Silence reigns for several elongated moments, Jin Guangyao appearing somewhat taken aback by the uncharacteristically inflexible look on his sworn brother’s usually so amicable face. Still, he rallies himself quickly, speaking softly, demurely, bowing his head in supposed agreement, “Er-ge is of course right. Such accusations should be considered carefully for their… merit.” It is that brief pause at the end which almost has Wei Ying wanting to applaud the man for his delicate phrasing. As though everyone here isn’t aware that Jin Guangyao is – once more and forever again – pointing out the disparity between Wei Ying’s station as the accuser and Jin What’s-His-Face’s as the accused. A not-so-subtle reminder that it is the mere son of a servant, who is daring to speak against one of the gentry. How laughable.

(Essentially, he goes back in time to before Wei Ying was kicked out of cloud recess.)

Lan Zhan's silence never seemed as loud as it does now, Wei Ying thinks.

He looked wrecked, like the grief haunting him swallowed him whole and spit him out, as delicate as hand spun glass.

His brother looked like he was falling apart at the seams and Lan Xichen didn't know what to do. "Wei Ying?" His brother questions, an uncharacteristic vulnerability fraying the edges of his voice, looking at Young Master Wei with such unmasked hope that his chest hurt.

"A-Zhan" he tries to carefully edge towards his brother who looked up sharply towards him, the icy stillness of his concentrated stare cutting him to the bone.

Lan Wangji could still feel the phantom pain crawling up his back, the sting of betrayal. "Brother" he said, tone wavering with the bleeding edge of anger and hurt.

Before he could notice his brother flinch, the sound of laughter, one that he hasn't heard in so long, brushes up against him, like water to a parched man.
