OK turned my existential dread into productivity: moved some stuff around in the living room incl my failed potential broken press stand (i didn't post about it here when i built it, decided it was too tall for where i wanted to put it & i was afraid the press was too heavy for the shelves- first pic- but thought taking it all apart to send it back would be SO annoying so figured i should find somewhere else to put it) which got turned into record shelf. the prior record crate then got made into monstera stand. and then i also dusted the living room & swept the hallway & entry and watered my plants. also went through the latest pile of old stuff of mine from my mom (which i've been ignoring since JANUARY) which included some truly crusty burned cds (both mixes and anime !! which is so funny. you really could only fit two eps a cd), a giant pile of 10+ year old hair dye (i threw it all away instead of trying to save it for some inane purpose), my giant case of dvds & ps2/xbox360 games, a dvd player, and a radio cd player (!!) which got added to the new record stand (i haven't tested any of the less visibly fucked up burned cds yet). now it's a music zone. AND a i did laundry. AND also sent in an order for a sticker sheet which has been a request for a while from my sticker club people. anyway cd half life is coming for us all

Quick note on Charles's speech for fic writers or anyone interested, really.
Charles uses tag questions, where he ends a sentence with a question, doesn't he? I see a lot of "innit" thrown at the end of sentences, which is right, sometimes.
There is unfortunately grammar. First off, if the main verb is negative, the tag will be positive, and vice versa.
When the main verbs in the sentence is a form of "be" or a modal verb (must, could, would, have, will, can, do etc), he's going to repeat that same form at the end of the sentence. An exception to this is a positive main verb of "I am" in which case the tag will be "aren't I?"
"[You're] Not going back to hell, are you?"
"I wouldn't wanna be dead with anyone else, would I?"
"No, we're not going anywhere, are we?"
"Well, I can't see where you're pointing to, can I?"
"We don't want a repeat of the infamous puppy debacle of '94, do we?"
He uses "innit" a lot less than people think, I think. It took me a while to find examples of him saying this, I ended up having to search a transcript. It follows the same rules as above, except the subject is always a thing, or the pronoun "it," and the main sentence is positive, so that the tag can be the negative "innit" (isn't it). *Edit* "innit" is not used as a question! It's mainly used to reinforce a talking point! (Thank you @elizabear). While the other tags are like rhetorical questions, this one is flat tonally and can end with a period, too.
"Boxing's a gentleman's sport, innit?"
"Magical void, innit?"
"That's the injustice we fight, innit?"
When the verb is not one of those above" he uses a form of "do."
"Well, that sounds a lot like you, doesn't it?"
"Wanna keep things professional, don't I?"
Charles also ends a lot of sentences with just the word "yeah."
"Psychic thing makes case work go a lot faster, yeah?"
I am usamerican, but I have a masters in Linguistics. People who actually use tag questions, though, please add on or correct me!

Rambling here but….
This has truly hit me harder than I expected it to. I feel completely blindsided by all of this. It’s as if the rug was just pulled out from under me. As a gay man, this was a hard punch to the gut and not just for me but for everyone who found representation in these characters. I hate this especially for Lou, though. After Oliver’s recent comments, it’s clear now more than ever that Lou was the one person who truly cared and was the most invested in the relationship and its potential. He believed in the story and wanted more for it. To think about how he endured so much vile, hateful, and disgusting attacks online for months on end and stayed silent through it all without a single cast member standing up to defend him sickens me. All for him and his character to be discarded like this…without any care at all. it’s upsetting. It’s unfair. And I’m sure Lou himself doesn’t take any of it personally, but still. it’s just all so….
I’ve never experienced anything like this in a fandom before.
I feel spat on.

i've been thinking about exactly why people portraying one of the other crew members successfully killing Jimmy as a "for what you did to Anya" kind of thing rubs me the wrong way a bit and it's because like..... this is just another form of taking agency away from Anya, in a way. it's kind of framing her as some meek, shivery woman-thing who's entirely at the mercy of the men around her, either to hurt her or save her.
(i understand these are mostly for wish fulfillment on the audience's behalf because everyone would like to see Jimmy pay for his crimes. whether or not this is the intention of the person writing it isn't really relevant, characterization happens with or without intent. i feel like it misses the point by portraying it as an 'ideal ending'.)
because... Anya is a capable person. she takes things into her own hands when she can. it was partially(?) her idea to get into the cargo,

(the chance to do these things herself is not given to her.)
she'd been keeping Curly alive for months in a critical state somehow, her psych evaluations at the start are only so useless because Jimmy refuses to take it/her seriously and Curly is obviously biased when he puts it into his own hands. he's known him a long time, like he said. "I'll just put good for that one."
there's not a lot of material to work with because of how the game is framed, but it's there. we are working with two very biased perspectives and neither one lends Anya what she deserves
there's significant changes in how she speaks post- and pre- crash, and depending on who she happens to be talking to. i recommend re-reading her dialogue, because the difference is drastic
she acts the way she does around Jimmy because he has tangibly done horrible things to her, is actively hostile, and physically could not escape him by any means. she can't take away Curly's agency herself, in my eyes. you have to remember that Especially in the post-crash segments of the game, it's entirely from Jimmy's POV, and he obviously does not (and has never) thought very highly of her or treated her with a shred of respect
i've seen a general idea that she can't bear to hurt other people for any reason, but that doesn't really track to me. this is the real point of the post by the way
it seems based on the parts where she says she struggles to give Curly medication. "It just hurts him so much, I can't stand the noise." "It makes me nauseous."
it's not really the same thing as, say, hurting someone in self defense

this sounds like she did want the gun itself. this never felt worded like someone who would refuse to, at very least, threaten Jimmy with a gun, with violence. if she had been given the agency to make that decision on her own. she wasn't though

i think some people overly soften her, for similar reasons the game itself is trying to comment on. she's not a tender victim who couldn't cause pain to another out of the softness of her soul, she's a person who's had every last bit of agency ripped from her repeatedly until she couldn't take it anymore. that's the point. that's why framing her that way, "needing" someone to save her, is odd to me
she didn't need Curly to save her, she needed him to take responsibility
she didn't want to escalate things, but she's not an idiot. self defense was absolutely on her mind
but who knows im just saying shit *smiles serenely*

You take a bullet grazed over your arm, but by some miracle after a loud string of curses the man leading the invasion chucks you behind him (nearly rips your bloody arm off in the process).
Should thank him you suppose when all is said and done, the other whores in this room didn't make it out alive. But one of his men bloody shot you and you are in shock from the sheer amount of blood and violence you've just witnessed.
Speaking of witnessing, you're brought to their base for the time being while they patch you up and figure out what to do with you. The one in the mask wants to kill you, that much is plain. You don't take it personally because the way he suggests it is clearly just pragmatism. The two younger ones argue that you're an innocent (you think they're doing mental gymnastics to apply the word innocent to you) and the Captain just listens. He makes the decision in the end to keep you on base for the time being, just until they can close out the last of the people needing hunted down.
Fuck it is so boring. But it's also sort of cute how these men dance around the fact that you're a prostitute. You reckon Ghost isn't too bothered, but the other three stare at you like you're some exotic creature. Soap especially winds up following you around like a puppy and you wonder if he's working up the courage to ask about it.
"He wants to learn to eat pussy" Ghost tells you at breakfast right in front of the rest of the team.
Soap flames bright red as he goes on to say that he can choke on dick just fine, but there are a lack of women for him to practice on for pussy eating. And hey he's cute, you're stuck here anyway, and this is your job.
Soap does indeed learn to eat pussy. Gaz learns how to make a woman squirt. Price learns how to take a pegging. And Ghost? You teach that boy some fucking manners.

I think a lot about how common it is for Raph to be the one to have direct focus put on him when Leo gets into all his near death experiences.
Like, when Leo is thrown off a building, it’s Raph who’s right there jumping after him, not even thinking about the consequences to himself when he does. When Leo almost gets skewered by the Krang, Raph’s right there to take the blow and send Leo to safety without a second thought. When Leo’s being strangled to near death, it’s a Krangified Raph doing the job, doing exactly what Raph would never, ever want to do. When Leo is telling Casey Jr to close the portal, it’s Raph who tries desperately to convince Leo otherwise.
Likewise, Leo is consistently very single minded when Raph gets forcibly separated from them. Both when in the sewers and by the Krang, Leo is dead set on finding Raph first and foremost.
I also think it’s interesting that during each of Leo’s near death experiences, the lightheartedness of his words during them goes directly hand in hand with both how close Raph is to him physically and how much danger Raph is also in in that moment. From a literal “I told you so” as Leo’s falling away from Raph to a soft joke about how “hero moves” are Raph’s style - both of these are on the more morbidly carefree side and both of these notably take Leo farther away from Raph and, in turn, have Raph not in immediate danger.
On the other side of things is the apology from Leo, heedless of the danger he himself is in as he seriously and genuinely speaks to a Krangified Raph face to face. Then there’s Leo’s freezing and desperation as Raph takes a hit meant for him and sends just Leo to safety, leaving Raph himself behind. Both of these involve much closer proximity and Raph being directly harmed - these together make Leo much more vulnerable in his words and actions, something not even the threat of death can make him.
These two care about each other so much, and they’re way too much alike for their own good.

I totally love how the movie parallels Oroku Saki and Karai with Raph and Leo respectively#there are so many parallels in general in this show+movie it makes me froth at the mouth#and because it breaks my heart - the beginning of the movie had Raph getting angry at Leo and lashing out at him#the end of the movie has the Krang very very angry at Leo and lashing out at him#both of these times has Leo ‘ruining’ a mission so…bad parallels#in the movie as well there’s a Krangified Raph who beats Leo senseless#so I have to wonder if Raph and Leo just…can’t roughhouse anymore#else Leo would flinch or Raph would be so scared to accidentally hurt Leo like he was already used to do before#then suddenly their usual dynamic of Raph never having to be softer with Leo is thrown on its head#worse is if they’re so terrified of this dynamic leaving that they power through their own sufferings to maintain it
