💘 do you feel like you chose to be polyamorous or do you feel like it’s who you are?
i feel like it's very much who i am! i used to have regular panic attacks about having to "pick a single person" as a kid to "spend the rest of my life with" and before i knew of polyamory i just swore off dating for my entire life to avoid the thought of picking.
even now i still hate the idea of having to pick a singular person and dedicating all my time and energy into that relationship—i'd much rather be a casual fling or partner for multiple people than to be in a relationship with only a single person (even if that person was also polyamorous).

It starts with a chase. 
It always starts with a chase. 
You run through the cold, deep snow. Dried leaves and twigs hiding under the snowy blanket crunch beneath your boots, and the little cracking noises they cause makes you want to cry painful, heaving sobs that shake through your frame. 
The moon hangs high in the sky, your singular source of light. You are so deep within this frozen wasteland, not even Belebog's lights show on the horizon. 
A perfect place for them to hunt you. But hunt truly is too kind of a word; a prey has at least a singular, sliver chance of survival. You are merely a toy between their clutches, ever so often placed in a new playground for their amusement, but at the end- 
You will be back with them. It is, after all, part of the script. Always, always, always- 
You stumble and fall on your hands and knees with a painful gasp, foot catching within viney branches that dig into your boots and pants. You'd been running so much, for so long, you hadn't even realised just how out of breath your poor lungs were. 
In, and out. In, and out. In, and out.
You take in one, last big breath before finally looking back to get your foot out of the vines and hopefully, with the mercy of Qlipoth the Preservation and any Aeon that will listen, escape from this hellhole- 
Only to meet two red piercing eyes staring at you from such darkness, not even the moon could disperse it. Peering, watching, waiting. 
"No!" The frightened scream tears itself out of your throat, and your lack of breath and aching foot are forgotten entirely. In the distance, among the flying crows and skittering spiders, you heard the tinkling laugh of a woman.
Everything is dangerous. Everything is dangerous. Everything is dangerous-
He tells you everything is dangerous as he sharpens a sword, cracks going through its cold blade like broken glass. His voice is low, but his eyes are staring straight at you. Gazing, scrutinizing, waiting. 
How many days, weeks, and months have you spent with them now? With him? You know his past by now, something he'd confided in you in the lonely, dead hours of the night, where you craved interaction even from someone like him. When he would crave interaction from you, would seek you out and hoard your time with the excuse that Kafka demanded he needed you to heal him and soothe his mara-struck mind with your singing, nimble fingers unwillingly going through his hair. 
Everything is dangerous, Bǎo bèi. You will stay here with us.
She tells you everything is dangerous without telling you. You are on her lap, so shamefully naked and exposed yet she lounges against the tub as if the world is her oyster to pick, hands on your waist and nails slightly dragging against your skin until there are raised goosebumps trailing up your body. 
It might as well be her world to rule. 
You will not leave, my darling. She says with the softest laugh, burying her pretty face in your tender throat and kissing your skin. Her perfume still clings to her skin, leaving your mind hazy and muddled- all thoughts of your burning homeland they took you from washing away until all you can think of is her, her, her. She's a devil and a devil hunter; she is a spider that has spun into a web you can see neither the start nor end of, demands your songs as if you, your songs and voice all belong to her. 
Everything is dangerous, my lovely. You will not leave, not now nor ever.
You run and run, boots so torn every twig and rock digs into your delicate skin. You are crying, too, stumbling against trees and branches. The noise that comes out of your throat is half-sob, half-prayer. Mercy, oh Aeon, grant me mercy. 
You speed past the forest. It does not matter where you are, only that you leave. There are so many snapping noises, but all of it is from your running so you- you are sure you are safe- 
No more trees, and the lights from Belebog now shine like the very stars of hope. So close now, and freedom tastes so unbelievably sweet on your tongue. You reach a hand out- 
And fall down again, staring up at the star-less sky with wide eyes and a frantic heart. 
No twig or branch made you fall. 
Spider webs did. 
The moon is so beautiful.
"The moon is so beautiful, isn't it, my darling?" 
Kafka looks down on you, kneeling down by your side. Her pretty eyes gleam in the encroaching darkness, mouth stretched into a small smile that is anything but kind. 
Yet her touch is so very gentle when she cups your face, wipes away the lone tear trickling down your cheek. She is even gentler when she leans down to kiss the corner of your lips, this time tasting your second tear. 
It makes her sigh, so awfully fond. The spider web clings to your body, crawling up your limbs. You are unaware of Blade slowly coming out of the woods, your focus entirely on Kafka. 
"You tried your very best," she croons, voice low and soft. Her smile widens, thumb swiping across your chapped lips, smoothing out the furrowed lines between your brows. "But it wasn't enough, was it? It will never be enough, either. But, oh, how beautiful you looked as you ran and ran, so fully convinced you even had a small chance of success… like a frightened rabbit. Isn't that right, Bladie?" 
Blade's silence is unsurprising, and you are glad for it as you finally descend into sobs, turning your head away from her even as her hand chases your face. All of it… was just an illusion? All of it? 
"Carry them, Bladie." Kafka orders, chuckling. She plays with your hair for a few seconds, humming before she kisses you, kisses under your lashes, one last time and gets up. "Carry them home, where they belong." 
 It ends with you back in their arms. 
It always ends with you back in their arms.

After the fiasco with Wednesday and Marilyn Thornhill almost destroying the school, Morticia had found it best to join the faculty to keep an eye on Wednesday.
The new school year welcomed Morticia Addams as the official Potions instructor as well as You as the new Herbology Professor.
And Larissa being lucky to be alive was an understatement.
You as the Marilyn’s assistant had found Larissa with the poison already in her system and everyone else having left. You had managed to counter act the poison with a rare healing plant that you had been secretly growing on the side.
From there, Larissa had immediately given you the job of being the herbology professor.

Morticia and Larissa had always had a thing.
And now that they were working together, it made their thing even more apparent…
But there was one singular, nagging issue…
They were both submissive.
Larissa spent her whole day and night dominating in her life, so when it came to her sex life, she was more than willing if not insistent that she hand over the reins of control.
Similarly, Morticia was the matriarch over the entire Addams family and she had such a submissive husband, that she couldn’t handle another thing in which she was expected to be in control.

After Larissa’s near death experience, she insisted to take you out for coffee as a thank you.
From the time you had been working as the herbology assistant, Larissa had gauged you to be introverted, calm, and shy person. Overall very submissive.
This was ironic to her as your build screamed the exact opposite; You were toned and quite tall (and that’s a big claim coming from Larissa), you carried yourself with elegance and dressed well.
But your presence was quiet, you did as you were told, and you rarely raised a hand against anything.

She had insisted that you call her Larissa, and you had immediately insisted the same for you as well.
Unlike at the school, you were far more talkative to the blonde and your laughter and smiles were far less contained.

You were a lot more straight forward and clear on what you wanted and what you thought.
She realized that while you were introverted, you were certainly not submissive.
And as you and her were chatting, a thought sparked in Larissa’s mind…
You were the solution to her and Morticia’s little dilemma.
That was of course if a) you even liked women and b) you were even interested.
Which both of these things stumped Larissa a bit as she had no clue.
So naturally Larissa decided that after her coffee with you she would go directly to Morticia’s office to confer with her.

“I’m sorry, what?” Morticia asked, a bit stunned from the retelling of events which Larissa had just given her.
“It’s a lot I know. But I think it could work… But I don’t know if she’s interested or even gay, ‘Tish…” Larissa continued.
Their cute nicknames for each other always made the other woman blush…
At that, Morticia let out a elegant giggle if there ever was one.
“She’s gay, ‘Rissa…” Morticia chuckled.
Larissa looked at her with confusion.
Morticia burst into more laughter at her face, “You really have terrible gaydar…!” She chuckled once she had composed herself more.
“I do not…” Larissa grumbled.
“Yes you do.”
At not wanting to discuss this topic anymore, Larissa pivoted the conversation.
“Alright, but even if she is gay, there is no guarantee that she would be interested in something like that…” she spoke with a hint of disappointment laced in her tone.
“Hmmm…” Morticia mused, “Well why don’t we just ask her…?”
“Who?” was Larissa’s immediate, next question.
The room went silent.
“Not it!” Both of the women yelled simultaneously.
They both groaned and laughed at their own unwillingness to step up and ask.
“Perhaps it would be better if we both approached Y/N.” Larissa stated.
And Morticia couldn’t agree more.

Everyone knew that being called into the principals office was never a good thing…
So when you got requested by the principal at the crack ass of dawn on the following Monday morning, you were nervous to say the least.
Had you done something at the coffee meet?
Did you forget to turn something in?
Where you in trouble??
As you reached Larissa’s office doors, you took a deep breath and knocked with a slightly shaky hand.
“Come in!” You heard two muffled voices yell.
Two people?
Maybe you had offended or hurt somebody??
You took another deep breath before opening the door to be met by none other than Larissa Weems and Morticia Addams standing in Larissa’s office.

The second you had walked into the office, Morticia and Larissa shared a look and both committed in that moment.
“Professor, Lovely for you to join us. We had a matter that we wanted to discuss with you.” Larissa began.
“Alright. What’s the matter?” You asked.
Larissa looked over to Morticia for help.
“Well… Why don’t we all have a seat first.” Morticia suggested, glancing over to Larissa dottingly.
Larissa let out a small sigh of relief which she hoped you hadn’t caught before continuing, “Yes! That sounds like an excellent idea. Please Morticia, Miss L/N, do sit.”
“Thank you.” You spoke, “And Professor or Y/N will be just fine.”
Larissa didn’t meet your gaze but rather have a curt nod and a small smile as she too sat down.
“So… What would you like to talk about?” You asked again.
Both women took a deep breath.
They exchanged glances, in an almost fight for who would ask you…
Morticia won.
“We… We are looking… Well, we thought…” Larissa stumbled over her words.
“We’re polyamorous!” Morticia blurted out.
Larissa’s eyes widened at Morticia’s bluntness, “Yes, and we’re interested in you…”
Silence.
Both women sat there on the edge of of their seats, awaiting your response.
A small smirk crept up on your face as you finally responded, “Ah I see… Well then what do you want from me?”
Both woman stared at you doe eyed with their mouths agape as they both audibly gulped.

When you knocked on Larissa’s office door, you were nervous.
When you heard two people calling for you to enter, you were still shaking.
But then you walked in met by none other than Larissa Weems and Morticia Addams…
There was something off.
You knew from the second the pair had exchanged glances as you walked in. It looked like glances of reassurance almost…
Suddenly, you felt a little less nervous.
“Professor, Lovely for you to join us. We had a matter that we wanted to discuss with you.” Larissa had said.
Her voice was faltering and she was straining and struggling to keep her authoritative tone…
You knew this behavior…
“Alright. What’s the matter?” You matter of factly stated.
Seemingly the entire power dynamic has flipped on its top in a matter of seconds…
Then Larissa looked over to Morticia AGAIN. You had never seen such a dependent, questioning side to the woman.
“Well… Why don’t we all have a seat first.” Morticia said,
in what you assumed she tried to convey as a decision but came out a lot more like a questioning suggestion…
Then you heard Larissa’s breath hitch in a sigh.
You flickered your eyes in her direction, but she quickly looked away.
“Yes! That sounds like an excellent idea. Please Morticia, Miss L/N, do sit.” larissa managed to choke out.
She was back on a last name basis… desperate to try and front some sort of formality and power, you noted.
You were sure to correct her, something inside you was driving to put Larissa back in her place…
“Thank you. And Professor or Y/N will be just fine.”
At that Larissa still couldn’t meet your gaze, and Morticia was conveniently staring out the window.
But you caught her recognition with her small smile and nod.
That would never do if she was yours…
But she wasn’t yours.
“So… What would you like to talk about?” You asked again, now even more curious than before.
Both women’s breathing hitched, which they corrected almost immediately with a deep breath.
You were fully involved at this point. You wanted to know what had them so riled up.
And then they started flickering their gazes back and forth…
It was only for mere seconds, but you wouldn’t miss something like that.
And this is when it clicked for you…
These two strong, independent women in front of you were submissively squirming underneath you…
They were fighting for dominance.
And Morticia most definitely had won.
“We… We are looking… Well, we thought…” Larissa stuttered, causing a blush to tint her cheeks from embarrassment and causing you to have to stifle a giggle.
“We’re polyamorous!” Morticia blurted out, but immediately becoming red after her own statement.
You could tell that that made Larissa shift and squirm in her seat…
They were getting to the matter which made them squirm so deliciously…
“Yes, and we’re interested in you…” Larissa added on in a desperate attempt for their desperation to be salvaged.
But it was too late.
You knew…
“Ah I see… Well then what do you want from me?”

I fall under the definition of nonhuman, I take many forms. Most notably a goose. Much of the posting thou may see upon here is I, The Mighty Goose, Plague upon John of England violently honking or screeching in Shakespearean. I often find myself taking forms such as that of a siren, Dracaena, Wolverine, Harpy, Jaguar, Bin Chicken, Hyena and jackrabbit. The forms in which I might take are boundless as the ways of water across this sphere. For I am whatever I please.

Hi! So sorry to bother you! I just finished 'If you ask me for my fire' and I really enjoyed it! However, it brought up a question that has been nagging me for some time when I read any Perpollo or Percy x god with a similar premise, and I thought what better to ask someone who has written a few fics with that theme - IF Percy got with a god and took the immortality route (whether forced or not) would that god be loyal? In the case of your fic would Apollo stay by Percy's side for all eternity, really? Would he never stray at all? - I know it's not the easiest question and I apologise but I'd love to hear some insight, especially since the fic I chose is so ambiguous in the end like yeah he absolutely forced him to immortality but only to have him by his side for eternity, to me the more important question is now Apollo has got what he wanted does he stay loyal? If forever is all that he has, then would he really spend it with Percy? At the end of the day he is a god - a Greek one at that - and they aren't known for Loyalty and pure singular devotion for their spouses.
Again, sorry about this question! I know its more nuanced than I'm making this poorly worded Tumblr ask to be, and I mean in general not just for your fic, but your fic is really good and a good example for the question cause in the case of your fic Percy says he doesn't know but loyalty is so important to him, he would probably stay out of that (and fear and sadness) and never ever stray but say it's a different situation where someone like maybe Hephaestus did something similar maybe forced, or maybe Percy chose it doesn't matter but would Hephaestus then stay loyal?
Honestly would love to hear the insight, your own biased answer not a generalisation, if you know anyone else that can give their own unique answers, please pass this along! I know you're close to mrthology and other big Perpollo writers, so all answers are good, but you don't have to! Sorry, that's kind of rude of me to ask.
Also, the second part of this question would be, If they do stay loyal through everything, what kind of message does that send? Is Percy really that more important that he could stop the biggest serial adulterers to stop completely? That's he can do what countless others have tried to do, and he wasn't even trying that hard. That he was enough when others weren't? - BUT that's not important, ignore that, I'm just being insane this is a children's book series.

So, if Percy were to become immortal and enter a relationship with a God, would that God stay loyal? You're right in that there's a lot of nuance to the question and that everyone is going to look at it differently. It's definitely a question I like playing around a lot with in my fics.
I get pretty long-winded in my response, but I have a feeling you won't mind lol
For the purposes of this conversation, we're going to assume loyal = monogamous (I could see Percy being polyamorous in a closed way, like percy/annabeth/apollo or the 7 or something, but not in a way where one or more partners are having casual sex with people Percy doesn't know, but that's not that important here). This point will be addressed later.
My gut instinct is no. With perpollo specifically, I do think there might be a short period of time where Apollo is loyal to Percy. But, I think that loyalty would be more incidental than anything. For a while, Apollo would be absolutely obsessed with Percy and during that time Apollo might be monogamous. But it's the same way he might become obsessed with some shiny new instrument and only play that for a short period of time. How long this era of loyalty/obsession might last is somewhere a lot of people might differ.
But, as time went on, their story would fall in line with every other pairing among the Gods. There might be a sort of constancy there, but there will always be dallying. Hell, within the PJO verse specifically, Demigods serve a purpose and Apollo's cabin is full to bursting at any given moment. I don't think it becoming empty would be something that's easily accepted, and to get demigods, you need infidelity.
Apollo staying loyal is something I've explored, specifically in Electing Strange Perfections. In that fic, Apollo tricks Percy into immortality and Percy becomes the God of Loyalty. Through Hera and a series of events, Apollo marries Percy. Consequently, Apollo cannot stray due to Percy's domain/powers/influence. In other words, it takes an outside influence.
Part of why I think this is due to how I see and write the Gods for the fics. They are inhuman, ancient beings who have lived on a scale the human mind cannot comprehend. I like to see the Greek Gods as feeling everything so intensely, with human emotion being watered down. It's fun to play with the idea of humans lives, love, and feelings being more valuable for being so short-lived rather than for their intensity. Rarity increasing value sorta thing. Also the idea that the Gods simply are their domains and what that makes myths look like in the context of human experience. Like of course Hades took Demeter's daughter, that's what death does (I'm referencing a tumblr post here I can't find to link).
Riordan's Gods are very humanized. I personally like to play with the idea of that being a result of changing with the times, but their core still being the same. Sure, they might soften themselves for modern demigods due to time and cultures changing expectations, but that doesn't erase the thousands of years that very much wasn't the case. It's a fun dichotomy to play with in fic where you can do whatever you want. I like the Gods being Gods tag.
In the world of Percy Jackson, myths are history. The morals of Greek mythology are different from what we're used to seeing, but that doesn't mean they're not there. The myths depict cruelties and horrors, but often these same cruelties were justified to the Gods enacting them. And those are the Gods we're reading and writing about when you're playing with PJO.
I do love reading and writing the softer moments between the Demigods and the Gods. Whether that's parental, friendships, or romantic. But Apollo helping someone heal doesn't erase the fact that he is also the God of plague; like the black plague, the spanish influenza, covid-19, cancer -- that's all him. With these softer moments, that doesn't erase everything else the Gods do and have done, and that they will forever look at their actions in a different way. I think there's a sort of obligation there too, as part of their domains. Ares will always be war.
And I think this obligation extends to their affairs. Ares has children with soldiers, Athena has kids with academics -- they're falling for their own domains. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but how can you fault the god of thieves for falling for a thief? And I do think there's love, it just looks so very different from what we might be used to.
All this to say, long-term monogamy is not in Apollo's wheelhouse. He's married to the muses by some accounts. Apollo is the God of so many things: music and healing just to name the few. I don't think he'll permanently change millennia of behavior for Percy, no matter how romantic that sounds. A musician who performs for the love of the song is going to catch Apollo's eye because that is to perform for the love of Apollo, even if the musician in question doesn't know that.
Earlier, I said for the purposes of this question we'll define loyal as monogamous, and I think that's part of the crux of the matter. I think Percy would see affairs and demigods as a sign of disloyalty. I don't think Apollo would if Apollo always comes back to Percy. This is a much more understandable difference in view point and one we see between people on the daily.
And definitely reach out to a few others; it's a super fascinating conversation! These questions are part of why I love reading and writing the Demigod/God fics so much -- Demigods have a better idea of what they're getting into, which makes all of these things stand out so much more when the God doesn't have to hide. I know @mrthology and I are definitely aligned regarding the Apollo and loyalty question, but I can't speak for anyone else!

I'm gonna talk a bit about my relationships and how I implement relationship anarchy in my day-to-day
I always felt so trapped when I was younger, thinking I had to get everything from one singular person, a singular lover. I felt trapped only being able to love a singular person the way that I love my companions & partners & friends & acquaitances now.
I was engaged for a time, and always just felt so... trapped. I was polyamorous before I got into that bizare relationship, but tried out monogamy because I was scared by the the pandemic. I can now say that I will never try monogamy again, but I also cannot say that I neatly fit into the idea of polyamory. When I got out I read Relationship Anarchy (Cortéz, 2022) and later discored Anarcho Relating's youtube channel.
It was these concepts of non-hierarchical and non-binary or multi-faceted relationships that I found myself able to be comfortable with the idea of being intimate with others.
I find it odd now-a-days even thinking of my people in categories and I find myself making more valuable and numerous connections with people when I adress a new person I meet with the same attention and care as I do with my closest people. I can certainly say that some people are a bit more like friends, but in all honesty I feel as though trying to fit my relationships into these labels and models is purely counterproductive. I find myself referring to people by name in most instances. I may say friend or companion if appropriate, but only in formal situations or when their name is unkown to the target audience.
I find myself loving more comfortably and naturally upon viewing my relationships as being composed of modular aspects that are not inherently anything (The Relationship Anarcomb, AnRel 2022). Our relationships can be composed of emotional, physical, & sexual intimacy and often form around or with transactional or collaborative actions that we engage in with one another. These are a few of the ideas prompted by AnRel's aforementioned work, and are not a finite list of the components that may build a relationship.
Physical and sexual intimacy are important for me to have in my life, and I enjoy such with people I would consider to fit the friend relationship model. I have people who are friends who I (nonsexually) sleep with, who I engage in near-sexual intimacy with, who I do engage with sexually, who I only touch to give fistbumps and hugs, and those who I engage in nonphysical intimacy with only.
Yet I find that it is most important to me that I do not owe any one of these people more time than the other and I am not obligated to love any of them more than the other. Likewise, we understand that we may come to drift apart, but that we may come back together (even if it is differently) or that we may never do so (and understand that that is okay. There is an appreciation for life in the moment with my people. We love eachother for who we are here and now and care for eachother how eachother needs care, and we wish eachother the best when it comes time for us to go onto new things.
This is love.
I cannot view love as anything other than this ability to exist with others and to let eachother go when the time has come.
I cannot view love as anything other than treating eachother as individuals who may do as we wish.
I cannot view love as anything other than appreciating the time I have with the lovely people I find myself with in the moment.
I cannot be loved and oppressed at the same time. I cannot be loved and owned at the same time. I cannot be loved and valued differently than others, only to have others vye over me.

— It was not surprising to learn that neither Akutagawa nor Atsushi ever did any of the typical holiday activities. It was expected, after all one was quite literally an orphan and the other … was Akutagawa. But as Christmas was coming, you thought 'why not have them experience it, this year ?'.
And it wasn't a bad idea, it was sweet and cute, maybe a bit cringe but who cared ? Well - Akutagawa did, you first tried to have them wear ugly Christmas sweaters that you had sew a few years back, Atsushi gladly accepted, he didn't care much that it was 'ugly', truthfully he found it somewhat cute.
But Akutagawa wasn't thrilled, when you handed him the sweater smiling and looking at him with hope filling you eyes and Atsushi next to you smiling too, - while wearing the sweat. He sighed and just said a simple 'no.'. A simple, cut and dry reject. He was not going to wear a stupid, ugly sweater.
Atsushi and you could beg him for decades, he still could not budge - or at least that's what he thought. Atsushi puppy eyes and you incessant whining, and preaching of holiday tradition made him break and he took, more like snatched, the sweater from yours hands and slides it on. But it wasn't without a few 'I will never wear this again.' and 'I can't believe I'm doing that'. He indeed, did that again, and maybe wore his sweater the most out of the three of you.
After the first step of your plan, 'Having Atsushi and Akutagawa experience the wonders of cringy stereotypical holiday shenanigans' was done, you decided to start the second one, which ultimately was one of the easiest one, simply watching those silly holiday movies while snuggling up in a ton of blankets.
You already did that, multiples time whenever your boyfriends schedules could permit it. It was just like a regular movie night, - expect with holiday ones !
And it was indeed easy, the hardest part was probably to listen to Atsushi and Akutagawa commentary about what the characters were doing and why it was stupid or bad or didn't make sense. But it wasn't that much.
What was really difficult was the third part of your so called 'plan'. Making gingerbread, not even a gingerbread house even if it was your plan at first, you realized quickly that making a gingerbread house with your two beloved could be probably impossible.
The two of them were not exactly great in the kitchen. One was very messy and ended up making a mess of everything and the other thought he knew better than the recipe itself.
It was fun to see them struggle and fuck everything up but having to be the one fix it up was a different story. Trying to stop Akutagawa from adding one too many eggs and telling Atsushi to be careful with the flour was energy draining. You couldn't complain much as you were aware of their kitchen related issues and still wanted to go with your plan.
At the end you all had fun - to some extent cleaning up everything was awful - and it was all that counted. And the gingerbread wasn't even that bad ! A bit too sugary, because Akutagawa insisted that there wasn't enough sugar in the mix but it was honestly okay.
And that make you come to the fourth and last step of your plan, decorating a Christmas tree, you took out of the attic your old Christmas tree as well as a box full of decorations and placed it in a corner of the living room in your shared flat. It a fun regular holiday activity that you thought could be very simple to execute, well wrong.
The two man had an interesting sense of decoration - Atsushi insisted on putting multiples bauble onto one singular branch of the tree and Akutagawa thought that intertwining multiples garland together. You didn't intervene or tried to change the way they decorated the tree but you couldn't help but ask if they were sure about it - to which they both answered 'yes'.
One thing they both agreed on what to put the star ornament at the top of the tree - probably because they saw it on multiples tree outside. And they gave you the honour of doing it, considering you were only watching them from the side while they worked on decorating the rest of the tree.
Once you finished putting up the ornament, you took a step back and looked at the tree, it was a overcrowded in some place and felt very messy but it was endearing.

You know when you see a post that just. Really indicates so clearly none of these people have ever known anyone who is polyamorous nor bothered to learn anything about it.
There was a post about how they should legalise polyamorous marriages for all reasons, but also because they want to see what polyamorous divorces look like. Someone else reblogged with the image of Charlie Day next to that mail wall with the threads, captioning it with, "Divorce Lawyer."
Honestly, a bit funny.
But the notes are just... Filled with people who genuinely have no idea about anything to do with polyamory, who's only experience with polyamory is joking about it and making fun of Mormons.
Sure, joking about breakups happening like voting someone off the island is funny and all, but those jokes are all people know about it. It makes trying to exist as a polyamorous person so frustrating. Especially when it is jokes centred around our marriage inequality. If you are going to make jokes about something that majorly impactful to our lives, perhaps know the first fucking thing about polyamory.
I have never met someone who I have told I am polyamorous that did not know anyone else who was polyamorous who did not have assumptions built on these sorts of jokes. Especially in regards to explaining that no, I am not dating all of my partners' partners, and even if two of my partners are dating our relationships are separate. My relationship with each of them and theirs with each other have actually nothing to do with each other. It blows their minds and it is such a basic part of polyamory. The majority of the people I know are polyamorous, and none of them have any relationships where they date multiple partners as a sort of joint relationship.
People look at polyamory through such a monogamist lens that they do not actually seem to conceptualise it as multiple relationships that co-exist. Whenever I clarify that no, it is not a 'singular' relationship containing more than two people, I always get looked at like I have uprooted their entire worldview. This revelation is almost followed by enquiring how I do not get jealous.
I do. That is a part of life. I get jealous of my friends' friends too. I just process those emotions on my own time, and communicate if these emotions are stemming from specific behaviours of theirs. (Such as, for example, them not making time to speak with me but making time to speak with other partners.)
It is not that the question of how to manage jealousy that really bothers me (it does bother me though), but the idea that it would not exist if you frame polyamory from the point of view of it being a single relationship with multiple people. It just speaks to how these people have never even begun to learn the first thing about polyamory. It is not as though there are not people who's relationships function like that, but it is that it is the hardest form of polyamory to maintain. You need to have good communication so everyone is on the same page about everyone's relationship with everyone else all at the same time. A and B's relationship, A and C's relationship, B and C's relationship, and any more is all one relationship. That is so much harder than all of those relationships being their own separate ones co-existing. If A and B have a problem, it is also a problem with A and C and B and C and whoever else there is.
Yet so many people are just functioning under the mindset that that is what polyamory is, and the idea that it not being one relationship (as in, like monogamy) that has multiple people in it is so confusing and hard to understand is just. What right do you have to be joking about our marriage inequality if you don't even know what you're joking about?

This is the first of my series of meditations based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which I have been studying as part of English literature A-level. It is the basis on which I expand into wider general reflections on culture and philosophy, linking to other things I’ve read or watched recently.
This piece begins as art criticism about excessive author presence in modern art, with allusion to Hamlet as an embodiment of such modern artist. But then it kind of diverges into a theological tangent and ultimately an argument about gender and female power in Christian myths.
It doesn’t really neatly belong to any specific literary category. It is essay-like, but is full of poetic logic. Perhaps just read it as a kind of unhinged diary entry or notes app notes that should have stayed in the drafts.

Modern authors, perhaps due to their peculiar awareness of themselves as authors, have felt this exceeding sense of self-inflicted obligation, that they have to force their authorships onto the audience, to make them aware that what they’re seeing, is in fact, created by them. And not just by the world.

‘What a piece of work / Is a man!’ Hamlet, II, ii, 301–302
What I mean by this could be seen most obviously in the attempt that modern authors try to push “message” into their works, or simply the conscious attempt to have any message at all. Consciousness is really the crime here. There is a kind of forcedness in modern art, a lack of the grace, the relaxed effortlessness that is so prevalent in classical, canonical art. Modern art is always agitating, in a permanent state of anxiety and uncertainty in whether it has “correctly” communicated its message to its audience.
Notes: Hamlet is seen by many as Shakespeare’s most philosophical play, his most message-heavy work, with deep contemplations on the nature of existence.
The long soliloquies of the eponymous prince has long been described as rigorously academic in style, perhaps most famously, in the ‘to be or not to be’ soliloquy. It is the most decontextualised soliloquy uttered by the prince, in which he solely speaks on the conceptual matters of life and death.
Yet this intellectual aspect of the play might perhaps what Shakespeare precisely is trying to satirise here. A tormenting, self-cannibalising, painful intellectual interiority, emerging in the early modern West, with its deep Christian moralism and inhuman rationalism, is here presented as precisely what drives the main character, and those around him, into misfortunes.

The dramatic forcedness of Hamlet's messaging is perhaps most evident in the almost ravage-like scene in Gertrude's chamber (III, vi), in which he almost embodies the incestuous and murderous Nero. 'Let not ever The soul of Nero enter this firm bosom. Let me be cruel, not unnatural.' III. ii. 366-368
Susan Sontag said that art should be flirtation, not rape. Well, many modern art feels like rape to me. They feel like rape in the way that they try to force one singular thing onto its recipient. It refuses a defused, tender sensuality that slowly transmits and triggers desires through a landscape of polyamorous tenderness. Instead, it is strictly patriarchal, scriptural, the word of the Father, of God, Author The Creator. There is a violence to it. But more so there is a naivety to it.
The violence is in the naivety. In its brutal attempt to not appear naive, but rather adultly, scholarly, fatherly, like the son who resolves the Oedipus complex by identifying with the father to escape the fate of castration. The dwarf dressed in the giant’s robes.

That he might not beteem the winds of heaven

This is the modern author. The anxious son, boy, fearing castration, if not already castrated, living in the shadow of the father, haunted by him, resenting his mother, the wanton, the whore, the true artistry of the world.

The Oracle (whose words are obscure because they’re divine, not to Him the God, but the real, hedonistic god of music and joy, through whom she is enlightened in darkness). The Sea. Genesis 1:2, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of waters. God moved on top of the sea, God on nature, man on woman, reason on art, this is the fundamental violation, the real original sin, the forbidden fruit of knowledge, brought forth by Himself through his very presence. The fault of the Fall is not in us. It is in Him. For to be holy is to be aware of the profane, as the opposite is equally true. Therefore to be profane, to be sinful, is precisely to be aware of the existence of the hallow. To learn about it. To aspire to it. Without sin, there would be no God. Like there would be no man without woman.

Notes: St. Augustine of Hippo wrote that original sin is transmitted by concupiscence and enfeebles freedom of the will without destroying it. But isn’t will also what precisely drove one (Eve) to the origional sin? Perhaps the will is much like Kant’s conception of freedom, a thing that creates its own limits.
Without an elusive ideal to aspire to, we will never be aware of our skin-felt wretchedness. The fruit is not only planted by God, it is God, it is God who eats the fruit, it is God who is the fruit being eaten, and it is God who is watching all of this.

I find it interesting. The closeness between the angel and Satan. Almost mirror images. In Michelangelo’s painting of the sin of Adam and Eve from the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
The decision to have the woman be the one to eat the fruit therefore, is interesting, on multiple levels. She is the original sinner, but also the one closest to God. For the fruit is God, but the fruit is also sin, and it is through the death of the man that she (gives birth to) achieves salvation. She is sin, but she is sin in grace, the glorified sin, the sin made divine, the virgin who gives birth, saved from stoning (here she also mirrors the other Mary, the other permitted sinner, Mary Magdalen), who gives birth to the man who is going to die, through which she successfully redeems herself. She is the mother, and she is the sinner, the original in both, and in both she is holy.
Eve is Mary and Mary is Eve.

The man is essentially an accessory to her, a passage through which she penetrates through to achieve her eventual goal. He is only a thing that she decorates herself with. The baby in her bosom. The man on her laps (Pietà). The feminine urge to be daddy’s mommy. The gravedigger, whose death goes unmentioned, outlived everyone. Her blue robe is serene, like the halcyon sea.

My Ritsuka/Gudako headcanons
She’s a chronically sleepy ADHD trans girl who has never taken anything seriously in her life before Chaldea, who uses humor to cover up her emotional turmoil and has sooo many mental issues and yet she persists.
She’s bi and polyamorous so at the very least she very much enjoys meeting all these hotties en route to saving humanity; she’s lowkey a perv and I mean that as a virtue (“Mash, her boobs are so big I can’t work under these conditions.” “My deepest sympathies, Master, it is going to be okay.”)
Despite hiding behind humor and sarcasm, she loves so loudly. Like, she is not slick. She is 🤏this close to confessing her love to Mash at any given moment only to dodge and say something like “Is your hair pink or purple, I can’t tell” when Mash asks why she’s staring. Anyone can see how much she adores Mash, even Mash can kind of see it, she just can’t quite figure out what to make of it or how to feel about it. And besides, humanity needs saving, that’s more important right now.
This isn’t to say her interactions with Mash are awkward at all. For all the effort Ristuka puts into not revealing her true feelings for Mash, she absolutely will confess her feelings about others to her. Because Mash is the closest, dearest friend she’s ever had in her life. They love each other dearly and that goes without saying. Mash knows that Ritsuka catches feelings way too easily and how that just makes her job as the Last Master of Humanity that much harder. She will genuinely fall in love at first meeting sometimes. She is only setting herself up for more yearning and the last thing she needs is more yearning. (“I miss [servant from past singularity], Mash. I miss them a lot.”) Mash isn’t the jealous type though so this doesn’t bother her.
Please ask more about my Ritsuka she’s taking up so much space is my brain. So is Mash tbf.

✦ quadrant based attraction - a revamp
the quadrant system is a model of attraction created by the webcomic homestuck. while someone has already broken down the quadrants into facets of attraction here, we figured we would take our own stab at it! (with permission from the original creator of course!) this is meant for anyone interested in the concept, although it helps to have prior knowledge! if you find this attraction model appealing, a wikipedia page exists that explains it well here, but we'll be going in depth ourselves under the cut!
and now for a more in depth explanation of quadrants and each facet of attraction! as you can see, there are four quadrants - matespritship or matespritian (heart), moirallegiance or moirallegian (diamond), kismesissitude or kismesian (spade), and auspisticism or auspistian (club).
they're divided into two groups: red romance fueled by love/positive feelings, and black romance fueled by negative feelings/hate. you can have multiple people in one quadrant, or only one, the concept of quadrants is polyamorous by default, but some choose to have only one moirail, kismesis etc. you can also have different sexualities for different quadrants! for example: you could be a gay man who is exclusively in matespritships with men, but could be in a moirallegiance with anyone of any gender. you could also be in an auspisticism with multiple genders, this is because both moirallegiance and auspisticism are usually based on platonic feelings as opposed to romantic or sexual. this does not invalidate the person's status as a gay man, it's just how they would do quadrants!
flipping or "vacillating" between quadrants is a natural occurrence as well. the feelings you may have for someone can be complicated and if you feel you'd want to be moirails with someone as opposed to in a kismesissitude or any other form of vacillation it's just something to talk over with your quadmate!

matesprites: matespriteship is closest to what we know as traditional romance, it is love for another person romantically and being in a relationship with them. it is also known as the flush quadrant. it's an alternative to traditional romance in the sense that it's a few new terms for how we view romance. singular: matesprite informal: flushmate verbal: i'm in hearts with x, i'm flush for x symbol: <3, ♥
moirails: moirallegiance is equated better in human terms to queerplatonic relationships, and it's an incredibly important quadrant. it is important to note that while close to a queerplatonic human relationship, it is still a form of romance and should be treated as such. moirails keep each other stable and grounded, they are there to help one another and they are extremely close. they participate in moirail based activities such as feelings jams, sessions in which the moirails will vent or talk about their feelings with support from their moirail. there are also shoosh paps, in which you shoosh someone to calm them and pap them as well (a little pat to ground them). your moirail also checks over relationships you have, they are in charge of keeping you safe as you are in charge of keeping them safe, it is a mutual support system based on deep love for one another! moirallegiance is a conciliatory quadrant, meaning it is typically not a sexual relationship, but every moirallegiance is different and has different boundaries/ways of existing! it's not all the fluffiest stuff, you can always have banter with your moirail, as long as deep down you both know how much you both care for one another. in the end it's all about how YOU work with your relationships! singular: moirail informal: palemate/diamond verbal: i'm in diamonds with x, i'm pale for x symbol: <>, ♦
black romance -
kismesis: a kismesissitude is a relationship founded on mutual respect and hatred. usually a kismesis is accompanied by underlying sexual attraction but you can be any orientation and have a kismesis. there are of course different ways to be in a kismesis with someone, but the general concept is that you both hate each other in ways that will build the other up, the constant one uppage of the relationship forces either kismesis to try and be a better person than they once were, either to prove a point or to rub it in the face of their kismesis. the most important thing to remember though is a kismesis is founded on respect just as much as it is hatred. without respect, it could very quickly turn abusive, which is obviously not okay. when dealt with healthily, a kismesis is a very good quadrant to have, it stabilizes the rest of your quadrants by giving you someone who you can be angry with and at, someone who will be angry with and at you, and someone who will constantly challenge you as a person. there is often times lots of banter/snarky remarks. singular: kismesis informal: pitchmate/spade verbal: I'm in spades with x, I'm pitch for x symbol: <3<, ♠
auspistice: an auspisticism involves three people: two people who would be in a kismesis and one who mediates between them. the auspice is in charge of making sure two in a hypothetical kismesis don't get out of hand and harm each other or others around them, as its an entirely possible occurance. when you are an auspice it is your job to make sure that your pair stay in line, if they don't there could be dire consequences and people could get hurt. the auspice is the only one feeling ashen for the pair, as the pair are constantly attempting to be in a kismesissitude. there are often feelings of fond exasperation towards an auspice's pair.
