this is such an interesting perspective
Ruki - The Cat Killer
Admin speaks:
Ruki’s action was horrible for many, but we should acknowledge the symbolism behind it.
When the MC picks up the cat, we learn that the cat is weakened.
More Blood Maniac 08
Yui: (‘Please adopt me’. ...This little one has been abandoned.)
(I wonder how long he’s been here? He looks rather weakened.)
Ruki projects his own experiences before and during his time in the orphanage on the cat. He sees himself in the weakened cat.
In More Blood Maniac Epilogue and Ecstasy Prologue, we learn that Ruki is forced to leave his family's empty mansion and ultimately collapses due to hunger and waits to die.

Yui: That’s not the problem! Why would you do such a thing!?
Ruki: Do you truly believe that... living life knowing that you will never be free again can be considered bliss?
The moment you picked up this cat, it lost its freedom forever.
This is an allusion to Ruki's loss of freedom the moment the orphanage picked him up from the streets.
More Blood Maniac 08
Yui: So you’re trying to say that it would have been better for him to die abandoned in that cardboard box!?
Ruki: I don’t know how this cat in particular felt about it. However, if I were him, that is what I would have wished for.
While wanting to survive is the correct path for any living being...
If you are simply breathing in a place with no freedom... You might as well be dead already.
...Do you know what it feels like, knowing that you had been better off dying?
Ruki confesses several times that he preferred death to the terrible conditions in the orphanage.
He didn’t kill the cat out of malice.
He really thought it was in the best interest of the cat to die in freedom instead of living a life without freedom.
I hope this helps Ruki’s character and his plot to understand a little better.
