My Sensitive Skin's Encounter with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner: A Rollercoaster Ride
As someone with skin that throws tantrums at the slightest provocation, I’m always wary of new products, especially those containing powerful ingredients like AHAs. But the allure of smoother, brighter skin often wins, and so I embarked on a cautious journey with The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner. Ingredients: First Impressions: The usual The Ordinary story – simple packaging,…

Things to look for and why, regarding skincare (we're in different countries, so I don't know what brands are available to you. I'll focus on ingredients over brands as a result). It takes an average of 30 days for complete skin cell turnover, which means it can take that long to start seeing real results. Intro new product one at a time so you can better monitor for allergic/adverse reactions. And to avoid chemical burns. Really follow the directions when it comes to chemical exfoliants, here, because overdoing it can destroy your moisture barrier and make even lotion turn into a chemical burn sensation/reality
Chemical exfoliants are likely to be your best friend, here, as well as a "maintenance" ingredient.
You described your skin as having orange peel texture, which almost always means your skin type is oily. Niacinamide is going to be the key ingredient to help regulate how much oil you're putting out. The ordinary makes a good serum for that, and it's paired with a booster ingredient that helps it work better. Note, if your skin also feels tight (not tight because of a cystic zit) or is also flaky, you could be producing all that oil because your skin is dehydrated, in which case you want a really, really basic moisturizer too. Look for ceremides, because they will help to repair damage to your moisture barrier (if you've been using a LOT of different products it could be damaged, which leads to oil. You can usually tell, because everything will feel like your skin is on fire).
Acids! My beloved. They come in two categories, aha and BHA. Aha is water soluble and can not cut through heavy oil, and will not get as deep into pores when it's really oily, but they WILL support the BHA ingredients that are oil soluble. You are gonna want them both, because you need to cut through the oil and have something left to help out with the clogs. They will both make you more sensitive to UV, so grab an SPF that is basic as hell--i rec trying to avoid dimethicone when you're really oily, because it will generally make a mess of everything
You can safely do glycolic (aha) in really high concentrations up to three times a week. The ordinary has an amazing peel, nip + fab makes incredible pads.
Salicylic can't be had over the counter stronger than 2% in the states, but this is a powerhouse BHA. You want it.
You can usually find those two ingredients bundled together over here, and I rec that if you can find it because they will be formulated in complementary ratios.
If you can get your hands on raya, their aha/BHA cleansing gel + Bliss clear has a serum that is a toner with salicylic and niacinamide. Those two things together, consistently, completely transformed my skin. They're my ride or die when combined with the nip + fab.
The other ingredients to keep an eye out for in case of brand availability are enzymes. What enzymes do is break down the bonds in the oil and in your skin (not as scary as it sounds) so that the individual cells will turn over faster, shed faster, and not be able to stick around as long to get trapped into pores. Enzymes plus some aha/BHA can seriously push everything out of your pores. They are strong, and they can be found in the raya thing I mentioned.
I'm not sure how much character limit I have left. I'm more than happy to answer specific questions, and also help vet products via links/screen caps. r/skincareaddiction is another wonderful place to get in depth reviews, assuming reddit API fuckery hasn't hit them too bad. But I am not afraid to use my license/obsessive research skills, and I'm not afraid to pull out "fixed my face out of sheer spite" knowledge either, so if any of this is confusing or something you'd like more info on don't hesitate (and it could very well be confusing, I haven't had enough caffeine to self medicate the ADHD and it's past my bedtime. I've met myself at least once and know how I am). Either way I hope that this all helps on your quest
Damn, I'll have to go through with this a notebook and write everything down while re-reading. Thank you! I didn't even know asks have a character limit, but you sure used it well.
And yeah my skin type is oily as fuck. You could scrape it with a spoon and collect enough to boil it into soap.

hi sab!!💗💓💝💖💘💓 i saw your post on skincare and i honestly swear by the ordinary, it isn’t too expensive either and their products worked wonders for me. i use these every night and it got rid of the few spots i had so quickly and my skin always feels glowy and smooth!!
step one is around £15, step 2 is £8 and step 3 is £6… then just use any moisturiser after that! i use the charlotte tilbury magic cream but its around £80 so it is quite expensive but any cream works💞
eee hi honey! i’ve missed you so much! 🤍💖🫶💗💞💝💕💕😘💓💝💞
thank you so much for your help!!! i used to use the ordinary too, but i found i broke out way more, but that was probably an issue on my end (i definitely misused the products/used them too much). i have the glycolic acid toner! how do you apply it to your face? thank you very much once again! 🤍💗💖💕🫶🫶🥹😘🥹😍
#chxrryhansen#sab’s cherry#sab answers#saving for later#i use vitamin c but i don’t think it does anything#sephora used to have this super glow serum and it was SO GOOD#but they discontinued it 😢😤

👉🏻👈🏻 Can you go into your skin care routine a little bit as in what order you apply things and how long in between applying products (like is it immediately or do you wait 5 mins to let the first stuff dry/sink in before the next product)?
I get so lost with skin care that I get discouraged and then dont so anything.
oh god this is probably gonna be really long but,
so for the pm- Basically with most of the humectant (moisturizing stuff) you wanna apply that as soon as you get out of the shower and in quick succession so that any water and moisture can get absorbed into the skin and not just evaporate. assuming you shower at night like a sane person this should be your first step when you get out of the shower, you can not wipe off your face with your towl to keep your face damp for longer, i usually don't even wait to put on my pj's before i sit infront of my little skincare stack and start to slap stuff on my face.
the first batch is stuff like the cosrx snail mucin, cosrx glactanomicies ferment filtrate and hyaluronic acid (you'll see a lot of people tell you that 'the ordinary' one is bad but tbh it's fine and cheap, but a good option is also the one from good molecules, neither of them are more than 10$).
if you do not shower at night or wait to long and your skin gets dry, then you want to preface all of your skincare with some sort of toner; the lineage cream skin is absolutely amazing- especially if you have redness and inflamed skin- it is a little bit pricey but tbh most toners run in the 15-30 per 60oz range. these can last you up to 6 months. my leniege one was actually a gift from a follower for my last birthday and i've been using it very sparingly. i immediately follow it up with snail mucin, hyaluronic acid, or something light and hydrating, this is the first barrier of skincare that kind of cushions your skin if you plan on using an actives.
You want to sandwich all of the stuff that dries out your skin from acne, takes care of your fine lines and wrinkles, or chemically exfoliates your skin between your serum and cream. now is when you get into the waiting- when you start to apply your actives.
Actives are stuff like retinols/retinoids, aha's or lactic acids, bha's or glycolic acids, salicylic acids, and niacinamide. these are things that can damage your skin if improperly used. for me- aha's feel a little less damaging than glycolic acids. aha's and bha's are generally a once a week thing especially if you're just starting out. niacinamide help with sebum and clogged pores as well as pigmentation issues, salicilic acid is also something that kinda helps keep your skin sterile from acne causing bacteria, if you have sensitive skin introduce these very very slowly, start with niacinamide and work your way up. i apply niacinimide almost every day and everything else as needed.
next you have your eye cream- it can change based on what you want to solve, if you have fat loss around your eye (ie deep set eyebags like mine) you want to use stuff thats going to thicken the skin faster- staying away from stuff that decreases blood flow like caffeine, if you have dark circles- you want stuff that has brightening agents. if you have fine lines- then eye patches (mini eye face masks basically) and a super hydrating undereye cream will help. i tend to lean for the hydrating stuff. because i have dry under eyes, fine lines, and fat loss.
the ones ive tried are the cosrx snail peptide eye cream, the beauty of jeoseon ginsent and retinal eye cream, the mizon snail repair eye cream, the purito green level eye cream, the haru haru wonder cream the inky list retinol and caffine eye creams, the good molecules, yerba mate wake up eye gel, and the milky dress wrinkle and whitening eye cream. the ONLY ONES that i saw ANY difference with are the good molecules, milky dress, and haruharu, but the one from good molecules is adequate under makeup and the best by far and cheapest.
fat loss is one of the main reasons why you want to stay away from things like lash growth serums, there are some that claim to not cause fat loss, but tbh, seeing as the only way to fix it is via invasive cosmetic surgery- i wouldn't risk it. it's not worth it.
Next i go in with a cream. and then acne gel over top and then you're done!
So basically
shower
Toner,
hyaluronic acid/serum/hydrator
wait until skincare has absorbed,
Apply actives if you desire actives to fix issues, wait inbetween each application so that the skincare has time to sit and soak in,
You can apply your eye cream at the same time as these steps, because usually actives should not go around the eye area.
Cream, no need to wait
Acne treatment
hope that helps! i have to start my workout now~~~ good luck!

Liv I’ve seen you talk about face exfoliators before but do you have reccs for body ones? Specifically legs!
I DO HAVE RECS! <3 i have been obsessed w using korean italy towels for manual exfoliation (only once or twice a week) for like the past year or so; you use them in the shower once your skin has had time to get wet and soft and you don't have to use any extra product or anything!! i buy them in multi-packs and clean them by just throwing them in the wash—but i do find that the more you launder them the less effective they are, so i replace them fairly regularly. my other rec is kind of weird but it's applying an AHA toner to your still shower-damp skin before u moisturize (i do this probably like 2-3 times a week??)—i use the glycolic acid toner from the ordinary bc it's inexpensive and comes in a big bottle, and i put mine in a misting bottle and just spray it where i want to apply it :) one thing abt using a chemical exfoliant tho is u gotta be CAREFUL abt applying spf bc it makes your skin more susceptible to sun damage!!
#liv got mail#EVERYONE'S SKIN IS DIFFERENT BUT THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME!!#oh also i don't use the toner on the same days i use the manual exfoliation bc i feel like my skin personally would NOT LIKE THAT#but to each their own!! i'm not ur mom!!

Girl! Do you know any tips or tricks to stay cool and dry in this heat? & how to continue staying shower fresh and clean as a daisy while moving around?
There’s also another matter I want to ask about since I’m seeing a lot of it now that I am taking public transportation to commute - swamp ass. Is there a way to prevent that?
There’s very few things that you can do with heat. You can’t control the weather. If smelling is the problem, you can always use a glycolic acid toner (like the Ordinary) in the areas that sweat. It’ll kill the bacteria in those area that causes the stench.
Swamp ass 😂 👀 public transportation is not an option where I live. So I’ve never had to commute, I’ve always had a car. Plus I’m not someone that sweats so….I don’t know. But uh…if you sweat you sweat. Botox can help with that! I honestly don’t know what to tell you.

Products I use for soft hands and feet
Soaps and soaks
The only soap I’ll use on my hands is Savon de Marseille, and I like this soap in particular for its gentle nature and vanilla scent. I don’t soak my hands at all, because it messes with my manicure, and I avoid getting my hands wet for any length of time—I wear gloves to shower and wash the dishes.
I’m harsher on my feet, and I use a mixture of diluted liquid castille soap and Hibiscrub to wash them at the end of each day. Once a week, I soak them for 20 minutes in a solution of 1 part Listerine Original and 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts hot water, and add quite a lot of Dead Sea salt. This softens everything and keeps my feet completely clean and free of any nasty fungi or bacteria.
Scrubs and exfoliants
I’m gentle on my hands, and until recently, I didn’t exfoliate them very often at all. A friend gave me a tub of the stupidly expensive Sucre de Gommage from Dior’s ‘Prestige’ line, and I don’t use scrubs on my face, so it was repurposed for my hands. It’s so gently effective, and exfoliates my hands so well. I use it every night, and it’s so good, that I’m almost tempted to buy another—I’m searching for a good replacement, so please send me a message if anyone knows of something similar. Other than this, once a month I use a very small amount of the Ordinary’s 30% AHA + 2% BHA peel on my knuckles and any other areas of my hands that are prone to dryness.
I exfoliate my feet very rigorously, because I walk and dance a lot, and I don’t want callouses. I use the 7% Glycolic Acid toner from the Ordinary every other night, the stronger 30% peel once a month, the treatment from Mr Pumice once a week, and a peeling mask every 3 months to chemically exfoliate—and I use the St Ives scrub, sefid-ab and kiseh, and a foot planing tool to physically keep hard skin at bay.
Cuticle care
These are just the products I use to keep my cuticles soft and hydrated, not those I use to remove them. I like the Onsen serum for morning and night, because it’s so light and hydrating and it soaks in so well. I use the stick balm from Sally Hansen on my hands’ cuticles throughout the day, since it’s portable and not messy, but I use the oil from Cuccio on my feet and on my hands at night. I seal everything in at night with Dior’s Crème Abricot—it’s expensive, but I haven’t found anything else that works so well, and it’s a small luxury for me.
Oils, masks and creams
Back home, I used to use oil from sheep’s tail on my hands and feet, but it’s difficult to find over here, and I’ve discovered that emu oil works just as well, if not slightly better. I use the oil to massage my hands and feet, and by the end, it’s completely soaked in. Urea is such a powerful ingredient for exfoliation, moisturising, and hydration, and this gel-oil serum contains 40% for strong effects. I apply a small amount to my feet, and then follow it up with my favourite foot cream. For my hands, I use the Vanilla 28 cream from Kayali throughout the day, and Yuskin at night—Yuskin (AKA Yu-Be Skin in America) has a 40% glycerine content for maximum hydration and softness, and it’s the best hand cream I’ve found. Then, every 2 weeks, I use the Norwegian Cica masks for hands and feet from Neutrogena, for additional hydration and moisture.
Occlusive treatments
It’s important to lock everything in after a long routine, and at the end of every night, I like using Flexitol balm with 25% urea on my feet, and pure lanolin on my hands. I cover up with cotton socks and gloves, and let everything soak in whilst I’m sleeping. I love using paraffin wax in a heated bath at the end of a long, cold day—it warms me up from the inside out, and really helps boost my skin’s moisture levels. In the winter, I wear special silicone gel socks around the house and sometimes even beneath my tights when I go out, just to keep my feet soft, warm, and constantly moisturised throughout the day.

what does Cherry’s self care day look like? I really like your blog btw 🎀🤍
Sundays and Wednesdays are my major self care days. They’re both hair wash days, body scrub and foot scrub days. I really go all out in the shower.
Sundays I like to use a hair mask and keep it on for about 10 minutes. I use the Moroccan Oil Hydrating Mask. It makes my hair oh-so-smooth and shiny and I love it. I also do all my facial hair removal on Sundays. I have had a bad experience and two from salons so I do everything myself. I wax my eyebrows, side burns, upper lip, chin, I thread the areas that i need to, I use a facial razor to get all the peach fuzz off. I throw on a sheet mask and call it a day.
Some Sundays I get massaged and sit in the sauna and steam room. I have a full routine for this - sauna first for about 10-15 minutes. Then the steam room - 5 minutes in, get out, cold shower, go back in for 5 minutes, repeat about 3-4 times.
Wednesdays, I like to use a different face mask. I’m loving the Ordinary’s AHA+BHA mask. I keep it on for precisely 10 minutes because the last thing I want is a chemical burn. I follow that up with lots of soothing moisturiser.
on other days, I follow my skin regime strictly. AM: face wash, toner, vitamin c serum, pore serum, sunscreen and make up. PM: face wash, glycolic acid toner, hyaluronic serum, eye cream, moisturiser and acne scar cream.
my acne is fully gone away and my scars have almost gone away too. I think I need about 2-3 more months of the acne scar cream and I’ll finally have the glass skin I’ve always wanted.
some weeks I use a hand and feet mask. It helps my skin stay baby smooth. My hands are very dry so I need to continuously moisturise them, the mask does a great job of doing so.

This has nothing to do with football and anyone, I just feel like there are a lot of girls on here so I thought I’d ask this here. Feel free to ignore.
Do you or anyone know any good products to help get rid of hyperpigmentation and dark under eyes? I moved to Abu Dhabi two years ago from England and the sun has totally burned me out😭😭 I’ve been struggling so badly with hyperpigmentation and I have tried so many things but nothing seems to work.
Not sure about darker under eyes but my mom uses The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% for hers and i think its been helping her. As for the hyperpigmentation, ive been using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner & this Garnier sunscreen. Ive been experimenting with different brands of vitamin c serums and so far Garnier 3.5% Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, Brightening and Anti Dark Spot Serum has been my favvv. For moisturiser i use neutrogena hydro boost. I would just try to experiment with different brands and products to figure out what works best for you and be patient cause you’re not gonna see results the 1st week maybe not even the first month

Hi Moku! Hope all is well with you :)
I was just thinking of our dreamie boy. I was taking off my makeup and doing my skincare routine (I have several different serums, cleansers, moisturizer I use) and it got me thinking of our boy and his little makeup collection (it could be more now, but idk. He hasn’t posted any drapchats recently for us to see for certain), and it just got me thinking what kind of skincare he does, cause his skin is immaculate.
Do you have one? And if you do, do you have any recommendations? Stuff for hypersensitive skin (I have to get nickel free jewelry cause otherwise my skin is irritated, so makeup/skincare is also a task I must be careful with.)?
I can also give the names of what I use, if you’re looking for recommendations. It’s worked so far and my skin feels great. Again, wondering what Dreamie uses and how he’s doing; can’t wait for his new droject to come out-I can’t wait to see something actually revitalize and revolutionize Minecraft 👀
Hope you’re enjoying your summer break from school so far. Thanks for always being willing to talk, and for also being my go-to daily news.
-L :)
Hi L!
Hmm I don't have quite as expensive of a skin care routine as Dream haha but I love my la-roche-posay facial cleanser, olay moisturizer with sunscreen (because I am a veeery pale motherfucker) and the ordinary glycolic acid toner :))
I'm also down for affordable recommendations though because I have somewhat textured skin and so I'm always up to try new things because my moisture barrier gets kinda fucked up sometimes 😭💀

bts members as my skincare routine
(+ bonus smut recommendations)
inspired by @reliablemitten’s skincare & smut recs list that i was lucky enough to be included on. here, i will assign each member of bts a skincare product i am currently using with a smut recommendation to go with it. it is a little unhinged.
please enjoy. 🖤
park jimin • cleanser
i use the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, and who is more gentle than jimin. he’s the person you want after a long, hard day. he’s the cleanser that’s going to see you fresh from the club, skin grubby from makeup and sweat and other associated grime, and he’s not going to bat an eye. he’s been in those trenches, too, no judgment. just make sure that water is room temperature. stop washing your face in the shower.
smut recommendation: the devil in his details by @johobi
jung hoseok • sunscreen
the obvious choice. hoseok is our resident sunshine, but sometimes he’s too hot and you need protection. i use the isntree hyaluronic acid sun gel. it’s spf 50+ and pa++++ so you know it’s putting in the work, just like our dance captain. it’s gentle and calming and protective. sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
smut recommendation: just practice by @lamourche
min yoongi • water
now you might be thinking, jewel, what do you mean yoongi is water. i mean yoongi is water! yoongi is our resident pisces with those little pisces teeth; he is water personified. plus, sometimes the best thing you can do for your skin is the simplest, and yoongi is a simple guy. you might think you like other things more, but you always return to water. (wash your face. btw i use tap water.)
smut recommendation: tear you apart by nutting on ao3
kim seokjin • moisturizer
water might be what’s best for your skin overall, but for a dry bitch like me, a good moisturizer is a holy grail. i use two: neutrogena hydro boost water gel, and seoul ceuticals multifunction all in one anti-aging snail repair cream. as a wise friend once said: jewel, you love your snail products. yes i do, but not as much as i love kim seokjin.
smut recommendation: all you’re giving me is friction by @hot-soop
kim namjoon • toner
sometimes i don’t know what’s best for me and i need an adult. also someone who’s way smarter than me. that’s why namjoon’s my toner. i use the ordinary’s glycolic acid 7% toning solution. it has solved all my problems, just like namjoon. ingrown hairs? gone. uneven skin? gone. the stubborn kp on my legs? mostly gone. however, they do both make me a little sticky…
smut recommendation: easy by tentigers on ao3
kim taehyung • exfoliator
let’s be serious, tae is a sweetheart but he’s also got an aries moon. as a fellow aries moon-haver, i get it. he’s baby but he’s also on weverse threatening to shoot someone in the neck, so he’s peak exfoliator. again, i use a couple: the slmd body smoothing system for my kp, the tropical mango tree hut shea sugar scrub for cheap general maintenance, and you can’t forget your noggin, so i use the kristin ess instant exfoliating scalp scrub there.
smut recommendation: pour up by @jungkxook
jeon jungkook • face mask
i need to be very honest for a second: i have a deep, deep fear that 2023 will be my jk stan era. a hot man with long hair and tattoos? he’s my type all over. but i’ve been strong. i’ve resisted. but i feel my resolve weakening, and that’s why jungkook is a face mask. i ordered the dr. jart+ ceramidin facial barrier mask to get free shipping from sukoshi mart, and joke’s on me, now i’m obsessed with it. i didn’t want to be obsessed with it, but sometimes the universe has other plans. i hate it here.
smut recommendation: city of trees by ginforink on ao3
[please note, some of these recs are mxm fics. totally cool if it’s not your thing! but don’t be a dickhead about it. thank u love u!]

Hi 👋 It’s been a while but I did finish my mini of the glow recipe watermelon pore-bright toner. It was nice but I will not repurchase. A toner that I have repurchased it the Ordinary’s glycolic acid toner. 👩🍳💋
My elf power grip primer has also been sputtering these last few uses so when I go back home (from college) I will switch it out.
Also, here’s today’s makeup:
