Pretty sure this isn't even the first rodeo for the UK. Remember their 80s and 90s scare of everything related to ninjas?
True story: in the UK, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was changed into Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles for distribution. Because my dad on his work travels to the UK discovered that video cassettes were much cheaper there than in Sweden, he would buy all kinds of movies and cartoons on tape there and bring home to us. (I credit a lot of my early developed English skills to this.) The point is that is how I know that they very obviously edited the intro. Yet, funnily enough, the general references to ninjas remained throughout the show. Probably because it's one thing to cut in "hero" instead of "ninja" into an intro sequence, but doing so for all the dialogue just wouldn't work.
There was throughout the 80s and 90s a sort of ninja craze going on, as part of the wider action movie craze. Pretty sure it's to blame for New York's ban on nunchuks as well.

Batfam as made-up facts
Dick: The biggest biohazard in public swimming pools isn't the kid that peed in it, but rather the body oil from all the swimmers accumulating over time. Not only is oil not neutralized by pool chemicals such as chlorine, but it also floats to the surface and is the first thing you make contact with when you jump in the water. This is why a lot of public pools ask people to shower beforehand.
Jason: Making new memories is simply the process of our brains creating and reinforcing new neural connections. Traumatic or impactful events see denser myelination in the hippocampus (brain's memory center) and it's theorized that when we die and our "life flashes before our eyes," there's more activity in those denser regions leading to more vivid images of those moments.
Tim: Klondike's Equation is one of the lesser-known unsolved mysteries in math. It's a branch of calculus that takes Olivar's Laws of four-dimensional derivatives and creates a paradoxal equation by which the right half of it cannot be fully written if the left half is unsolved, but the left half needs values from the right in order to be computed.
Damian: The oldest interactive/roleplaying game dates back to the ancient Sumerians, according to records. It consisted of a theater of clay puppets that the audience would chime in with how they should act. It was often performed at bars or taverns during holidays with stories themed around mythical deities or fables.
Duke: In 1982, Bill Watterson brought to Archie Comics a standalone concept of a child hero and a sentient animal companion. However, he was rejected in favor of the up-and-coming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story. After shopping around at companies and getting lots of rejections, Watterson finally found his big break with Andrews McMeel Publishing, cementing his place in comic history with the cult classic Calvin and Hobbes.
Cullen: The smallest readable book ever made is 12 nanometers long by 8 nanometers wide. It was engineered by four particle physics grad students at the University of Vienna and contains the first passage of the Bible across six microscopic pages.
Stephanie: Most aerosol cans use both oxygen and carbon dioxide as the aerosolizing agent, which is why you're told never to spray them near an open flame. However, for food (like whipped cream or spray cheese), nitrogen is used instead. This is to prevent perishable food from oxidizing and for preservation as nitrogen helps maintain a cooler inner temperature.
Cassandra: The most plausible explanation for the legendary chupacabra was proposed by a team of anthropologists in Oaxaca. Essentially, it combines the theories of mass hysteria with the existence of a similar creature that went extinct in early Mesoamerican history. As accounts of this now-extinct creature was passed down, the image of it was slowly distorted. The modern chupacabra legend likely arose in a period of mass hysteria during political and economical insecurity.
Barbara: Traditional computer programs can be broken down into a series of if-then commands by which a condition is given and the program must respond according to the parameters. However, machine learning algorithms use an expanded version of this, known colloquially as if-then-but-because-however. The "if-then" stipulates the parameters, the "but" is for modifiers, the "because" is for generating explanations (usually pulled from a database of other works unfortunately), and the "however" is for exceptions that may rise over the course of running the program.
Harper: Ambidextrous people actually struggle the most when it comes to the drums. Most drum setups and tabs (sheet music) are designed with right-handedness as a default. Left-handed people can simply flip it around it for themselves. However, ambidextrous players have been found to struggle with the asymmetry of the instrument. That's why, among professional rock drummers, only 6% are ambidextrous compared to the 18% of lefties and 76% of righties.
Carrie: Although it feels like our lungs are burning after holding our breath for a while, the sensation actually originates from our inflated diaphragm pressing against our lungs. Since there are more nerve endings around our lungs than our diaphragm, we interpret the feeling higher than where it actually occurs.
Kate: During the war of 1812, a group of nine Canadian men known as the False Damsels donned women's attire to act as spies against the Americans. Of the nine, four of them reportedly continued crossdressing after the war and one of them started going by Margaret a few months later and remained unmarried for 20 years until they moved to Portugal with an unknown courter.
Alfred: In 1757, the British government attempted to train livestock, such as cows and chickens, to spy on domestic threats (such as anti-monarchists). However, this project never took off due to a regional outbreak of avian flu combined with the takeoff of the Industrial Revolution and new inventions that rendered animal labor obsolete.
Selina: Coffees and wines contain a bitter compound called tannins, and the ability to taste them is genetically determined. Capsaicin can be seen analogously. Some people inherit a gene that allows them to detect capsaicin fully, so when they eat a pepper, all they get is the heat and little to no flavor. Conversely, others have a gene where the heat is "muted" and they can better distinguish the flavors between two spicy foods.
Bruce: There is a correlation between one's taste in food and expectation of others. According to a 2019 Harvard study, people who reported preferring more simultaneous flavors in their food were 26% harsher in an activity where they had to grade students' mock essays.

At this point Power Rangers has done a few crossover comics, and they've all been some pretty logical and big name choices - the Justice League, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Godzilla. So today's crossover comic is one that definitely took people by surprise - Usagi Yojimbo, the long-running story of a wandering rōnin having adventures in feudal Japan (who also happens to be a bunny rabbit), written and illustrated by Stan Sakai since 1984. While an icon in his own right - funnily enough, he's a regular guest in TMNT properties - I don't think ANYONE really had HIM in mind as a contender for a crossover with Power Rangers compared to more conventional properties like Transformers or even My Little Pony.
After all, what do they know about samurai in Power Rangers?
It's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo!
Tumblr media
= So I know I've gone on and on about Shawn Daley's art but I really just need you to look at them again. It just makes me so happy to see a more stylized take on the MMPRs - basically if you took Daniele di Nicuolo's art and ramped up the anime influence by 100. It gives the book that much extra charm
Tumblr media
= who the hell is THIS I'm here for the FURRIES not another random boring human!!!!!! it's like I'm playing Animal Crossing
Tumblr media
= Jason's attitude in this book annoys me but at the same time it wouldn't be a Ryan book if he wasn't writing Jason in a way that annoys me.
= (also, they knew about the Morphin Masters this early in their Ranger career? I guess Zordon did mention them in an early episode, but.........what have they done that's similar to this that Jason would know about kjkjdkf
Tumblr media
= I still think it's very weird that they didn't give the whole "maybe it would be easier if I was fighting alone" to uh.....you know.....Tommy, the loner? Who's so used to fighting alone that he struggled to adjust to a team? But I guess he has a girlfriend and Jason doesn't so.
Tumblr media
= Is this a safe space. because the rabbit is pretty hot.
Tumblr media
= HAHAHAAAA TOKEN EVIL HUMAN I KNEW IT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= YFIP: THE MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS - assisting the villain, thievery of a powerful artifact, assault against civilians, racism against furries
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Like I've said before Jason's characterization here irritates me a bit but I'll give the book props that someone's actually allowed to call him out on it for once. Like man I wish Tommy in the main series was allowed to tell Jason to shut up once in a while like Usagi does here
Tumblr media
= Kim: Tommy, it's 4 pm! Time to go help our friends!
Tommy: yes honey
Tumblr media
= Wow, look at these guys! They're like......Shogun Rangers! ............wait a minute
= But seriously, though, I gotta say these are one of the best alternate MMPR designs we've gotten in ages - I LOVE how they apply all of MMPR's little details into each individual user. And the altered weapons are awesome, too. Between these and the Kaiju Rangers we've really been cooking with the alternate forms lately
= And as I said, they did manage to resist the urge to give Usagi a Ranger form. I did like my old "maybe he'll find a Samuraizer" idea, though
Tumblr media
= They both nearly died via crystal explosion a few hours ago but all they care about is their cool new outfits, just otp things <3
Tumblr media
= I was about to say "well yeah, duh, that's why the Dragonzord doesn't have wings" but then I remembered. oh yeah. technically the Zords aren't Japanese in origin in-universe, are they
Tumblr media
= It's nice to see Dragonzord Battle Mode! That was a form that didn't get a lot of spotlight in the comics - I think the only time we really saw it in the main series was Shattered Grid, and not for very long before it got destroyed by Serpentera
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Kim and Usagi only get one real onscreen exchange but she also catches him in the Pterodactyl and they have matching bangs. I'll take this as a win, though Splinter is still her #1 rodent dad
Tumblr media
= they are so fucking sad
Tumblr media
= I think future books should bring Usagi back or just crossover with him again with no explanation. Make people think he's a PR character just like how people assume he's a TMNT character

Kevin, the Pizza Guy
Tumblr media
A/N: To celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
-------------------------------
Set in the time between the 2014 and 2016 movies, in an alternative universe where Eastman and Laird live in New York instead of New Hampshire.
Kevin Eastman and his roommate, Peter Laird are in need of money. In order to make ends meet, Kevin takes up a job as pizza delivery. And one night, that would prove to be what he needed.
Thank you to @lovelyladylavie for giving me the idea.
Warnings: Spelling.
-------------------------------
Rain. Somehow, in the few weeks he had been doing this job, it was always raining when Kevin had to do his job. Whenever he had to get on his scooter with warm pizzas in the back, the rain always decided to pour down around him. So with an audible groan he placed the warm pizzas in the top box, before bringing a helmet down on his head. The scooter roared as he started it - that old piece of junk - and he drove off.
It had never been on Kevin’s bucket list to become a pizza delivery, but he had to do his part to make ends meet. He needed the money, and this job was hiring when he needed it. His manager was nice, if not a little strange. Kept talking about green creatures in New York, but never made Kevin or any of the staff members uncomfortable. But if Kevin could have chosen himself, he would have become a comic book writer. Kevin’s roommate Peter was a comic book artist. Not a very well known one at that, but he did help out on quite a few big time comic books. But it didn’t pay much. Especially not during these times. But Kevin and Peter marched on. Every night after their shifts, the two men would sit down at the dinner table and draw. They would come up with ideas and push each other’s creativity even further.
What Kevin wouldn’t give in that moment, to end his shift and go back home to the dinner table. The dark wet back alleys of New York City was not a place Kevin liked to be alone. Especially not with a top box full of pizzas. During his first shift, his coworkers had told stories of pizzas being snatched while their backs were turned. They would deliver one of the pizzas to an apartment and when they came back, the top box would be empty. Kevin and his coworkers were sure it was a homeless person that probably stole them, but their manager had other theories. Strange theories that involved green men…
But as much as Kevin hated these dark back alleys, this delivery recurred that he went down one of them. He didn’t have to do a quick drive through, no, he had to stay in there and wait. He had to wait for the clock to hit a certain time, before leaving the pizza boxes on the ground. He would then have to go out of the alley and wait half a minute before returning. There he would find the money and his tip.
Kevin did not like that one bit. He had read enough comic books to know that this was bad. Really bad. This was how you got mocked, or maybe even killed. But damn it, he needed the money, and whoever had ordered these five large family pizzas with strange toppings had promised a good tip.
Kevin did as the customer had instructed and drove down the alley. It was a narrow alley that ended in a dead end. There was trash everywhere. Filled dumpsters and open trash bags, most likely full of rats. Kevin shuttered at the thought. Rats in New York was nothing new, but he had never liked being close to any of them. Most humans probably wouldn’t like being close to a rat…
Kevin stood off his scooter and placed his helmet on the seat, before going over to open the top box and fish out the five large pizza boxes. He checked his wrist watch - it was almost the designated time. The customer had asked him to place the boxes on the ground and leave. But with all the trash and rats around… Kevin did not want to do that. Should he leave them on his scooter? No. He did not know who these people were, and it would be idiotic to leave his scooter with them. And if he left, he couldn’t be sure if he got his money. And Kevin really needed that money.
One minute until the designated time, and Kevin still hadn’t seen a soul in the alley. Not even the rats he had been fearing so much. No one. Just him standing with five large warm pizza boxes.
Half a minute. Kevin started to grow uneasy. A growing fear started to take root in him. Until he realized. They were probably there already, just waiting for him to leave. Hiding somewhere in the shadows of the narrow alley, watching him. It ran cold down his back.
It was time, and still nobody had shown themself. Unsure of what to do, Kevin the pizzas closer, looking for movements among the trash.
“Uhm… hello?”, Kevin called out. No answer. “I’m here with the pizzas you ordered”.
“Drop them like we told you to”.
Kevin almost jumped and the sound of a deep booming voice. It was quickly followed by hushed voices, telling him to shut up. He growled something along the lines of wanting his pizza and not letting a scrawny human hold them from him. Kevin looked around in confusion, trying to locate the voices in the alley.
A second voice sighed. “Look, we have had a very long night and would very much like it if you did as we had asked”. It was then Kevin realized that voices weren't coming from the alley. “We want our pizza, our father is at home waiting for his pizza. My brother here gets quite grumpy when he is hungry”.
“I don’t get grumpy!”
“Shhh! Not now Raph! - As I was saying…”
Kevin looked up to the top of the nearest fire escape. He gasped at the sight that met him. Even though they were hidden by the shadow, Kevin could make out four muscular figures, all of them standing high and tall on the building. He started in shock as one of them continued to speak. But one of them, the tallest, noticed him staring their way.
“Uhm… Leo”, he said, catching the attention of the talking man. “I think we’ve been spotted”.
“Not on my watch”, the first voice growled before jumping down from the building, the three others screaming no, telling him not to do it.
Kevin starred in terror as the largest of the four landed before him. The man before him was anything but a man. Big, tall, muscular, green. His face was wrapped in red in a red bandana, a toothpick in his mouth, and in his hands he carried a pair of sais. Sharp pointy sais. With a low growl he took a step forwards, causing Kevin to almost trip against his scooter. Kevin could not believe the sight before him. A big green man, just like his boss had rambled on about.
“I want my pizza”, the big red clad brute growled.
“Raphael!” The three other green men jumped down from the tall building, landing next to the big one, who looked as if he was ready to jump Kevin. The one in blue grabbed the red one by the shoulder. “We’ve gone over this! You can’t just do stuff like that!”
“But I’m hungry Leo! And this guy is crushing my pizza! Can you smell it? It’s getting cold! And you know I hate cold pizza!”
“I told you we should have ordered chinese”, the purple one mumbled, causing the red one to growl at him.
“I like this guy!”, the orange turtles exclaimed, smiling big and bright as he got up Kevin's face. “Can we keep him?!”
“Mikey, no”, the blue one sighed in frustration, rubbing the bridge of his beak.
“But Leo!”, the orange turtle wailed. “He got pizza!”
“Mikey, we can’t just keep humans”, the purple one said. “That is wrong”.
“But we did that with April!”
“You make it sound like we keep April as a pet”.
“But she is our pet!”, he smiled, almost dreamily as he remembered this girl by the name of April. “My Anglecakes!”
“You’re gross”, the red one grumbled, crossing his arms.
For the first time in what felt like forever, Kevin let out a breath he did not know he was holding. This caused the blue one to turn his attention towards the shaking Kevin. Without any words, he marched over to Kevin, fishing some money out of pocket. He took the pizza boxes from Kevin’s hands, before giving them to the red one, his anger subsiding a little. He held the cash up for Kevin to see, before lowering himself to Kevin’s level.
“You can’t tell anybody about this”. He took Kevin’s hand, forcing the crash into his palm before closing it. “Got it?”
Kevin nodded slightly, but he couldn’t stop himself. The question burned on his tongue, and he could not stop himself before he blurred it out. “But- but… who are you? What are you?”
Something flashed in their eyes, as if they were reminded of something. A small smile creeping upon their lips.
“We’re teenagers-”, the orange one said proudly, as if he had been practicing for this exact moment.
“Mutants-”. The red one cracked his neck while doing so.
“Ninjas-”, the blue one said with a nod.
“Turtles”, said the purple one, pushing his glasses up on his beak.
Kevin nodded, his mouth agape. He did not expect himself to keep so calm in this situation. “Well I’m Kevin… the pizza guy”.
“Aw, guys! Even he has a cool name!”, the orange mutant turtle said. “I bet he has a Christmas album too!”
“Quit it with that Christmas album!”, the red turtle yelled. “You make me cringe so hard I think my shell’s about to crack!”
“Okay, that’s enough”, the blue one said, handing them their pizzas. “It’s time to go home. Master Splinter is waiting”.
“Leo’s right”. The purple turtle took his pizza box. “You know how rats get when they're hungry”.
Rats?! Kevin once again felt a shiver run down his spine. Mutant turtles and rats? This was only getting more and more crazy.
“Donnie’s right. We have to go”, the one called Leo said. “We have to get going”.
“It has to be quick”, the one called Raphael said, looking into his pizza box. “They’re getting cold”.
“That’s not good”, Mikey said. “Dad hates his pizza cold!”
In less than half a second, the four mutant turtles went to the fire escape and started to climb up, easily balancing a pizza box in one hand.
“See you around, Kevin!”, Mikey called out, spinning the pizza box in his hand.
“Shut it, shell brain”, Raphael grunted, pushing for Mikey to move.
Kevin watched the turtles despair up the fire escape, their still barely warm pizzas in hands. It took them less than a few seconds, by incredible strength and incredible speed.
Kevin stood still, even long after they disappeared over the rooftop and into the night. He finally stopped to listen to his own heart. It was beating fast in his chest. His breath sounded like he had been running a marathon. But as he continued to stare at the last place he had seen the mutant turtles, he remembered what he had in his hand. Money. Kevin took a closer look at the money Leo had given him. He gasped when he realized how much it was.
Kevin blinked, realizing what he had just seen. Four teenage mutant ninja turtles… Hmmm, that had a pretty good ring to it. Kevin put the money into his pocket before turning to his scooter. Teenage mutant ninja turtles. Leo, Raphael, Mikey and Donnie… Pizza loving with a rat dad? Kevin started the scooter and drove out the alley. Teenage mutant ninja turtles. Goodness! That was it! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Kevin had to tell Peter about this! It was absolutely absurd! No one would believe him! And therefore it was an amazing idea. It was a comic book waiting to happen, and Kevin was ready to write it!
Kevin slammed the breaks on his scooter when he realized; Mikey said he would see him around. He would see them again. The mutant turtles would order pizza from him again.
Kevin happily started the scooter again, almost singing out loud.
This would be the best comic book ever!

Duck Comic Reading Club Week 6
"Day Of The Cold Sun"
First look at this cover:
Tumblr media
That's some Dark Knight Returns shit right there.
This comic reads like an issue of Classic X-Men, in that a returning villain makes an uneasy alliance with the hero, the plot is based around time travel, and the romantic subplot is the best part.
Some thieves are interfering with the big Batman Returns style Duckburg energy project. Who could it be?
Tumblr media
Red Raider needs the Cold Sun Fusion experiment to power his ship in order to travel to time and relative dimensions in space. He and the Duck Avenger tussle for a bit, until Raider drops a truth bomb-
Tumblr media
The project is going to destroy Duckburg unless Raider and Paperinik can stop it!
MARVEL TEAM UP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Needless to say, the good guys win. Jughead's Time Police, on the other hand, are a bunch of dicks who were gonna deactivate our girl Lyla
Tumblr media
But her plucky resolve and quick thinking win the Time Cops over. Just in time for her to go out on a date with the tragically misunderstood Camera 9!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved this issue. I originally read these comics as scanlations and didn't quite see what all the fuss was about. It was right around this point that it started to click for me; it's not a strange Donald Duck comic, it's a really fun 90s superhero book that happens to take place in Duckburg. This easily ranks up there with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Usagi Yojimbo.

GREEN NERD SHOWDOWN ROUND 1 BATTLE 2
JONATHAN SIMS FROM THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES VS DONATELLO FROM TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA
JONATHAN
He’s just a nerd generally. He also started off the series as really posh and “doesn’t believe in the supernatural” (it’s a coping mechanism). Then as the series goes on, becomes a know-it-all. Supernaturally. He gets the powers to know (almost) everything. He doesn’t really have a canon appearance, (podcast) but TMA as a whole is associated with green because of the pictures used for it.
The Magnus Archives cover is green, and per the unofficial rules of eye-themed podcasts, the fanart tends to lean towards a green color pallette. Jon Sims art frequently has him wearing green. And he's so nerdy. He researches and archives supernatural encounters. His preferred ice cream flavor is rum raisin. He went to Oxford and faked his accent. His social skills are abysmal. When someone asked if he'd seen a dog he responded with "…In general?"
Green eye powers plus he works at an archiving job not only that but the head archivist and has a degree in library science+not many friends and a loner
That man saw someone being kind to him and decided they were going to murder him
HE SEES ALL (also he needs a break. That man has so many scars and so much trauma get a that guy a fuckin nap and a raise)
DONATELLO
Green skin, dedicated nerd/tech guy of the group for like 40 years now. I'll get Vei in here to tell you more.
literally green (turtle), big ass nerd (science, chem, botany, engineering, compsci), canonical autism icon
Bro is a massive nerd and proud of it. He actively attempts to make his 3 other brothers just as nerdy as him by scientifically altering them. He has lots of tech and admits to being able to do dewey decimal mathematics (Dewey decimal being a library categorisation system). He outright rejects things that aren't scientific 90% of the time and actively argues sciences superiority. Also he's a massive fanboy of a comic book character within the series called Jupiter Jim (his fav is atomic Lass). So yeah, green purple turtle is a massive nerd.
Literally green. Also a nerd.

Dad said I'm grounded, wanna stay for pizza?
(written for @tmnt-write-fight for @nights-flying-fox)
Fandom: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Prompt: Hop visiting your au!! Hop is the Dimension Hopper Leo AU Leo btw :3 I wanna see him interact with your sillies!! Hop masterpost Word Count: 1,455
Read On AO3
“I don’t know what you want me to say, Mass. I can’t bring you down to the Hidden City. Your dad said no. Now, I would love to bring you down to the city, you know that, but I really can’t do it.”
Massy frowned as a large hand came down on his head. He huffed, looking up at his Uncle Leo. Leo gave him a sideways grin, a mix of pity and something else.
“I don’t want to just.. Sit around and do nothing,” Massy muttered, crossing his arms as he leaned back in his beanbag. Tossed around the floor was a bunch of Leo’s old comic books, they had been searching through them before for some storyline Massy remembered when he was little. But then Leo’s phone rang, and it seemed important.
“I’m sorry, Messy! You know what your dad said, you are grounded for a month following your little dimension hopping incident. Let me tell you, your dad is a hard-”
“I’m a what?” Mikey questioned as he stepped past Leo, carrying a laundry basket.
“You are a delight to this family and we all love you,” Leo responded, grabbing the knot of Massy’s mask. He jerked it to the side, covering up Massy’s eyes. Mikey scoffed lightly, but he smiled, waving his brother out.
Leo shrugged, “Sorry, kid. Maybe next time.” The slider gave a half hearted salute before he dipped out the doorway of Massy’s room.
Mikey shook his head, looking down at his son. He set the laundry basket down on Massy’s bed, looking to his son, “You better make your bed, got it? It’s nasty to sleep on mattresses without a sheet.”
“Dad..” Massy groaned, pulling the mask off his head as he looked up at his father.
“I know, I know. Spoons and what not, but I’m telling you that it would be more comfortable if you used sheets. And your bed would stink less,” Mikey explained as walked over to Massy. He crouched down, licking his thumb before he started to wipe something off of Massy’s cheek.
“Guh- Dad, come on, please?” Massy turned his head away, trying to push Mikey’s hands away.
“Fine! Fine, I will leave you alone. I get it, you’re a big boy now-” “I’m a teenager..”
“Yes, I know that. You will never let me forget it. But you were my baby boy once upon a time so let me have this, okay?” Mikey leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Massy’s forehead. Massy groaned, but a smile settled on his lips anyways. Mikey smiled, lightly poking Massy’s snout as he pushed himself back up to his feet.
“Uncle Raph is bringing pizza home from Casey’s hockey game, are you going to join us or do you want me to bring you a slice?” Mikey questioned, cocking his head to the side.
“No, no, I’ll join you. Now leave me alone.” Massy said dramatically. Mikey laughed, shaking his head once again as he turned on his heel
“Make your bed!” Mikey called as he walked out of the room, leaving his son back in his room.
Massy let out a soft sigh, pushing himself up from the beanbag. His fingers fidgeted with the fabric between his fingers. Massy pulled the mask up onto his head, playing with the tails. The comics were still spread out across the carpet, he needed to pick them all up before he got told to clean his room after making his bed.
The young turtle started to pluck them all up one by one, setting them on the desk. As he was gathering them up, the telltale woosh of a portal appeared behind him and Massy turned quickly with a grin.
He knew Leo would come back! Leo knew that Massy was able to hold his own, he would bring Massy along and-
Massy paused as he looked down to see a very familiar version of his uncle on his floor. The blue scarf was pulled up over his head, but Massy could recognize it clearly enough.
“... You come for more ice, Hop?”
“Massy!” The turtle on the floor very quickly pushed himself up onto his feet. He swayed a moment but then grinned, putting his hands on his hips. “Huh.. Actually, I didn’t mean to show up here…”
Hop stepped forward, looking down at the comics on Massy’s desk.
“Oh!! Oh, oh yes. I haven’t seen this one in a hot minute!” Hop shouted as he pulled the comic off the desk. He flipped it open, looking through all the panels with a small grin.
Massy cocked his head to the side, crossing his arms, “You know that one?” Massy asked curiously, sifting through the comics for a moment before he pulled out another one.
“Do you know this one?” Massy asked, passing it over. Hop lifted his head and looked over at the comic.
“Uh.. Yeah, yeah! I know that one. I never got to read how it ended because it was all burned up…” Hop muttered, setting the comic in his hands to the side and grabbing the one from Massy’s hands.
Massy hummed, the gears in his head starting to turn. His own uncle was once a dimension hopping turtle, and he said he sometimes brought back souvenirs. But his uncle says he hasn’t been out of this dimension since before Massy was born.
“... So, what have you been up to?” Massy asked as he moved to sit on his desk. Hop pulled his nose from the comic and grinned up at Massy.
“Me? Oh you know, what I’ve always been doing. I have found tons of other versions of me, though. We are kind of making a family thing. I keep telling them that we should swing by and pick you up, but honestly, your dad’s light show kind of freaked us out and kidnapping is not a charge I want on my rap sheet.” Hop explained, rolling his wrist.
“A family? .. Huh. Well, yeah, I shouldn’t really be joining any extracurriculars right now. I am grounded,” Massy explained, resting his chin on his palm.
“Yeah.. I mean, I want to say that I can’t believe it but I don’t know, I probably will be on some kind of house arrest when I get home too.” Hop noted, but then he shrugged his shoulders, “What have you been up to?”
Massy looked down at his desk, “Oh uh.. Not much, really. I mean, I’ve been writing letters to everyone but I realized I had to idea how I was going to send them,” Massy explained, picking up a stack of envelopes from his desk. “Other than that, I’ve been doing chores. And school, really. Not the most exciting life.”
“Delivery? I’m great at delivery! Hand it over,” Hop snagged the letters, “Do I have one in here?”
“You? Yeah, of course. It should be the blue one near the body, I color coded them,” Massy gestured to the stack.
Hop let out a small ‘ooooh’ before tucking them away in his fanny pack. He did pause to pull his own letter out, tucking that in a separate pocket.
“I’ll get to delivering them ASAP! And maybe I’ll come back with some. I’ll be an interdimensional postman!” Hop grinned as he turned back to his portal. Massy’s eyes widened, a frown coming to his expression as he realized Hop was leaving.
“You’re leaving already?” He asked softly, cocking his head to the side. Hop seemed to hesitate.
“I mean.. Yeah? I don’t mean to bombard your living space, you know? So, I’m going to head out..” Hop explained, gesturing back to his portal.
“Massy! Raph is home with the pizza, come on!”
Massy lifted his head, somewhat startled by his father’s voice coming from the kitchen, “One moment!” He shouted back. His hands fidgeted against the fabric on his arms. He let out a sigh, thinking for a long moment before he looked to Hop, “Join us for pizza? Come on, you’re like, the only friend I’ve spoken to since everything happened.”
Hop’s eyes lit up, setting the comic down on the desk. “Um.. Am I allowed? I don’t know if a version of me is going to appreciate uh… Me.” Hop gestured to himself, though he did glance over at the door.
“Hm.. I say you’re allowed. My family loves strays,” Massy joked as he pushed himself off the desk. Massy pushed his door open, gesturing for his friend to walk through.
Hop looked from the door to Massy, then back. He seemed to consider for a moment before he grinned and very quickly bounced through the door. Massy laughed some, following behind.
Luckily, his uncle bought a lot of pizza.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #5
December 2024 By Jason Aaron , Darick Robertson, Norm Rapmund, Tony Aviña, and Shawn Lee.
A turtleless episode. Discover the secret origin of the TMNT's latest villain, and his... fatal?... encounter with Casey.
Tumblr media
SCORE: 9
It's quite interesting seeing mainstream artists and writers tackling the TMNT. This feels like a book/universe published by on the main three publishers.
There are some notorious differences. Whereas Sophie Campbell avoided making parallels with the real world, Jason Aaron is all in on the outcast drunk with power... but it also offers some sort of... justification logic for his actions. Hale is a "well-rounded" character that was seemingly cornered into being the bad guy he always wanted to be. Having said that, I can imagine some people getting angry at this kind of character choice... you still want TMNT to not feel like X-Men.
There is also the weird situation with the Foot clan basically in power... which I am not sure how it can be legal.
Tumblr media
Despite following a predictable route for a villain... this issue was filled with shocks and surprises. In other words, a TMNT book hasn't been this engaging in a while. And Casey is starting to feel like Mirage Casey as well.
Overall, the issue answered many of the questions I had about the new status quo of the clan, but it kind of spoils the ending of the ongoing "Mutant Nation" story... or does it?
After a few years of making my video reviews, the one thing I learned is that I am usually very wrong about my take on the comics I read. It's a good and a bad thing. It's bad, because I cannot really trust my judgment after reading one book. But it's good because I can change my mind after seeing the full picture. I guess what this says about me is that I enjoy complete stories over single chapters.
Not sure why I needed to add that here, but I think that on this month-by-month reviewing... it is really hard for me to keep track of all the plots, and that definitely affects how I score or see these issues.
Perhaps I should stop scoring them altogether.
In any case... What did you think of this issue? Are you enjoying the new villain?

Stranger Things Episode Reviews:
The Vanishing of Will Byers (Season 1, Episode 1)
Synopsis: Set before the events of Season 3, Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max take a field trip with Mr. Clarke's class to New York City (with El secretly tagging along) to explore all the sights in the Big Apple. However, when the group gets separated from the class and encounters an old enemy, they're forced to join with some unexpected allies as they attempt to stop a world-ending threat........
Observations:
This is one of those comics where I wish I had been in the writers room so I could understand what their thought-process was.
The premise: Sometime in 1985, the Party is in New York City on a field-trip with Scott Clarke's class (why and how they get this trip arranged is never explained). Along the way, they split from the main group and end up lost in the underground subway. As they try to come up with a plan, they hear sounds coming from the tunnels and go to investigate. Guess who they end up running into?
Tumblr media
DEMODOGS...........except with robotic parts attached to them?!
To make this more surreal, the Party gets saved by (you guessed it) the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMMTs for short):
Tumblr media
Later on, after introductions are made and explanations given, the kids and TMNTs (with encouragement from their sensei Splinter) discover that:
a.) The robotic demodogs (referred to as Demomousers by Dustin) are being controlled by Baxter Stockman, a mad scientist who's one of the Turtles adversaries.
And b.) There's a gate in NYC allowing demodogs and demogorgons to come through, and the Mind Flayer is preparing to invade.
Realizing they need to join forces, the Party and TMNTs attempt to take down Baxter and the Mind Flayer before they bring ruin to the city.
Tumblr media
If all of this sounds weird, you now know how I felt reading it.
I'll admit when it comes to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'm not an expert. I have some knowledge of the franchise from when I was growing up, mainly from the 1987 cartoon and the first two live-action TMNT movies (no, NOT the Michael Bay produced ones), but as far as the comics go, I've never read the original ones. In terms of my knowledge:
I know the 4 turtles are named after famous Italian Renaissance artists: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo.
I know they have a sensei named Splinter, a former human martial arts instructor from Japan named Hamato Yoshi who was transformed into a rat via a chemical mutagen (since the chemical mixes the DNA of living beings who've been in contact with one another, and Splinter had constantly been in contact with rats while living in the sewers).
I know that the turtles were originally ordinary turtles that Splinter adopted in the sewers before they also got infected with the chemical and (because they were in contact with Splinter when he was human) became humanoid turtles.
I know Splinter named and trained the turtles in ninjutsu, adopting them as his students/children.
I know Splinter and the Turtles arch-enemy is Oroku Saki, aka The Shredder. He was responsible for dumping the chemical that transformed them, he runs a criminal ninja organization called "The Foot Clan," and (in the 1987 TV show at least), he has two animal/human hybrid henchmen named Rocksteady and Bebop. Also, Shredder aims for world-domination.
I know Shredder was allied with an alien brain named Krang from Dimension X, and they operated from a station called the Technodrome.
Tumblr media
I know there was a scientist named Baxter Stockmam (who's one of the main antagonists in this comic) who created MOUSERS (also present here) that did his bidding and reeked havoc.
I know about April O'Neil, the news reporter who is an ally to the turtles, and Casey Jones, a violent vigilante who wears an ice hokey mask and has a bag of weapons, who is also an ally to the turtles. They make a brief appearance in this comic towards the end:
Tumblr media
Finally, I know about this earworm of a song:
vimeo
Like I said, my knowledge primarily comes from the 1987 show and the first two movies. What little I'm aware of about the original comics is that the turtles all wore the same red-eye masks before later media would color-code each turtle (likely so audiences could tell them apart). In typical 80s fashion, the comics were dark and gritty. Judging by how the Turtles are depicted here in this crossover, it appears they based the Turtles characterizations off their original comic book iterations:
Tumblr media
This brings me to one of my problems with the crossover: Because it's dead-set on portraying the characters in a grim fashion, it doesn't leave much room for humorous interactions between the turtles and the kids. What little humor is present is either forced, or just recycled jokes from the show. Stranger Things is rooted in the science-fiction/horror genre, but it balances it out by having funny moments between the characters to level out the tension. Same thing can be said for the 1987 TMNT cartoon: Part of what made that work is the creators realized how absurd the premise was, and embraced the weirdness while having fun with it. This comic expects the reader to take the story solemnly, and all it does is highlight the ridiculousness of its premise.
Another issue I have is the whole crossover aspect. I know this isn't unique to TMNT and characters from this franchise have done crossovers with Batman, Power Rangers, Street Fighter, Transformers, Archie Comics, etc. The difference though is that 1.) These were usually done with other superhero or cartoon characters franchises, and 2.) To my understanding, most of those crossovers weren't usually considered canon in either universe.
This comic on the other hand tries REALLY HARD to make itself canon in the Stranger Things universe by setting it between seasons 2 and 3, before The Battle of Starcourt:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On top of that, when the kids and the Turtles finally confront Baxter at his lab about his motivations, he reveals he was a colleague of Dr. Brenner, which is how he knew about El:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This ends up creating several plot-holes:
1.) You'd think that if the events in this comic took place in the show's continuity, the kids would have talked about it at least once during seasons 3-4. I have a hard time imagining, for instance, that Dustin wouldn't have been chatting Steve's ear off about encountering a bunch of humanoid turtles living in NYC sewers, or the Demomousers they had to fight off.
2.) Same problem with Baxter Stockman and Dr. Brenner's relationship: No mention of it on the show? That's not even including how this relationship is at odds with Brenner's character since he considered other people (even fellow scientists) to be beneath him in terms of intellect. Brenner was NOT a man who saw others as his equal.
3.) Since Stranger Things is a show set on referencing 80s media and paying homages to it, and since the TMNTs were a big franchise in the 80s, does that mean the first volumes of the TMNT comics that came out in 1984 don't exist in this universe? Especially when the kids reactions to first encountering the TMNTs is not knowing who they are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I get that Stranger Things is a fictional show that requires suspension of disbelief when it comes to its science-fiction elements (i.e. The Upside Down, El's powers, etc), but for the most part, it was grounded in a believable way. By that, I mean its universe was set up to be one that could conceivably take place in this reality. From its references to historical moments that occurred in real life, to its disturbingly realistic portrayals of bullying, bigotry, Cold War paranoia, homophobia, racism, government corruption, abuse, forced conformity, trauma and grief, and other social issues, to the whole dynamic of the Party being outcasts trying to survive middle school and high school. It's a coming-of-age story that also acts as a deconstruction of the 80s, and uses science-fiction elements in service of that goal. I've talked before about the Upside Down being a not-so-subtle metaphor for Hawkins and the 80s as a whole: Things look shiny, bright, and appealing on the surface (especially since the 80s continues to be a decade our current culture is obsessed with romanticizing), but when you actually dig deeper, there is rot underneath.
By setting the Stranger Things universe in the TMNT universe, it breaks that illusion in favor of turning it into popcorn entertainment. Some would argue Stranger Things was already this to begin with, but considering how the Duffer Brothers incorporated the themes I've just described into their work when they could have ignored them altogether, and considering how Stranger Things has a passionate fanbase dedicated to analyzing the show, its characters, and how it acts as a commentary for events and situations in the present, I would argue the show transcends that in a way TMNT never could. This comic tries to achieve this, with the Turtles (and Splinter) preaching about the importance of friendship, how everyone has challenges, not being defined by where you come from, etc, but all of these themes were already examined on the show way before this comic ever came out (and in a much more satisfying manner). Here, it comes off as repetitive without offering anything new to the table.
This isn't to say that the comic itself is bad. It still has cool moments and impressive visuals, and the fights between the heroes and the monsters of the Upside Down are a treat to behold:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The levels of detail put into these images is impressive, and it's neat seeing each member of the Party take up weapons to deliver damage to the Mind Flayer and his monsters.
On top of that, there were elements in the comic that (whether intentional or not) tie into the show and leave a lot to chew on.
For example, the whole fight against Baxter Stockman's forces and the Mind Flayer gives an idea of what we might see in Season 5. Whether it's the main characters dealing with Colonel Sullivan (who's still set on capturing El) or Vecna's impending invasion.
Tumblr media
Even Baxter Stockman and his ambush of the heroes reminds me of Colonel Sullivan and the soldiers under his command from S4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also Will's description of the Upside Down being worldwide and how the dimension isn't just limited to Hawkins (which is something S4 also confirmed):
Tumblr media
There's also the Turtles speculating that El's powers are tied to the Upside Down, which is something I've discussed in my reviews (specifically Six and Suspicious Minds):
Tumblr media
Additionally, the comic introduces the idea that there are other dimensions out there besides the Upside Down that can be traveled to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I doubt the Utroms (i.e. the alien brains) that the Mind Flayer possesses will be making an appearance in season 5 (or the TMNTs for that matter), the idea of multiple dimensions is something the Duffer Brothers could explore in the final season. It could also give more detail about what the Upside Down is, and whether the Mind Flayer really was just black particles with no conscious that Vecna formed into his avatar, or it was a multi-dimensional conqueror (as I've seen speculated by parts of this fandom) and it was simply dormant until Vecna woke it up and started collaborating with it:
Tumblr media
But like I said, this is all speculation.
Overall, my feelings about this comic are mixed: On its own, it's a decent read and has plenty of cool moments and creative imagery. However, when you look closely at the story and how it's supposed to tie into the Stranger Things universe.........it starts falling apart. I think fans will enjoy this crossover for the sheer entertainment of it, but I seriously doubt this is going to be counted as canon.

I'm feeling the need to be a hater but in a harmless and ultimately meaningless way, so join me around this barrell and lets shoot some motherfucking fish
Disclaimer: I am not telling you you can't enjoy these movies, or judging your taste if you loved them. This is literally just me being a hater about movies that happen to bug me personally for various reasons.
*of these random 10 11 movies I personally really hated
** obligatory disclaimer that I did not pay to watch this movie, JKR did not make a single penny out of my morbid fascination with cinematic trainwrecks
(despite what this list suggests, I watch a lot of movies that aren't cgi-heavy blockbusters, but having a specific interest in movie adaptations of comic books means I watch a lot of really terrible cgi-heavy blockbusters)
Anti-propoganda below the cut
Spawn: this movie hurts to look it. One of the single most visually unpleasant experiences of my life, and I'm including recovering from major surgery in that.
Batman v Superman: the entire plot hinges on people believing Superman shot a man to death with a gun. A less significant but unavoidable plot point involves Lex Luthor giving someone a jar of his own piss as a death threat. Compared to that, the Martha thing barely registers as stupid.
Cats: is it as bad as the viral reviews claimed? Sadly no. Did I almost strain a muscle trying not to laugh too loudly at how terrible it was when I saw it in the cinema? Absolutely.
Fantastic Beasts: none of the FB movies could reasonably be described as good, but the third one really lends credence to the JKR black mould poisoning theory.
The King's Man: they very clearly ran out of filming time/locations due to covid, and then for some reason instead of shelving what cannot have been a particularly expensive production, they decided to edit together what little footage they had and release it as one of the most fascinatingly incoherent movies of the last decade.
Last Airbender: the very rare movie that actually is as bad as the negative hype, this may have the worst use of cgi superpowers in all of cinema.
Fant4stic: if you don't have depression, but want to know what it feels like, watch this movie. That utter emptiness you're now feeling? That's what depression feel like. You don't feel bad, necessarily. You just feel nothing.
Transformers: none of the bayformers movies are good, but Last Knight is the only one which just straight up doesn't make sense. It's like someone took the strawman 'terrible soulless entirely CGI blockbuster' movie people use in tumblr arguments about hollywood, and decided to actually make it.
Black Adam: I feel bad about how terrible this film is, because it was a genuine passion project, and it has a great cast, but it also has the worst colour-grading and some of the worst editting I've ever seen. If a group of untallented first year film students got trapped in purgatory with dwayne johnson, pierce brosnan, and manual editting equipment from the 1930s, and had to make a superhero film in order to escape, this is the film they'd make.
TMNT: this film just makes me irrationally angry. It feels like a bad youtube skit about 'what if michael bay made an animated kids movie' but it's real and it cost $150 million
Flash: this was going to be a 10 option poll, but then I remembered this movie includes CGI christopher reeve, against the express wishes of christopher reeve, and WB went ahead and released it after Ezra Miller was arrested for kidnapping, and then it had the gall to also be a terrible film in almost every way.

list 5 topics you can talk about for an hour without prepping any material
How roboky went from a joke character to the best guilty gear character, why he's literally me, why him and venom were BORN to be friends and why i think gg strive NEEDS him in the roster.
Why i am obsessed with john cena along with fun facts about him. I already made my friends listen to me talking about him for more than a hour btw (sorry ayla), and that was BEFORE the oscars.
Monster high dolls, i've been in this collecting bullshit since i was 7. By that i mean actually watching reviews in other languages i coudn't understand yet, checking out the prettiest dolls to show to my aunt that lives in the united states so she could buy them for me since it would be cheaper that way, i'd wait months for them to arrive. My most recently aquired possesion was the jack and sally skullector dolls.
The entire apocalipse saga from the turma da monica jovem manga. You've seen those archie comics with a more realistic comic book artsyle right? Yeah a similar thing happened in brazil with the most famous brazillian comic series of all time, it got a manga version instead tho. I am a proud owner of all the first 110 chapters.
Jibaku shounen hanako kun. Like, in general. The artstyle, the protagonist, the worldbuilding, how yashiro and hanako are a lovely pair, the way the minamoto family dynamics are written, how aoi is literally me, whatever the fuck kou and mitsuba have going on, the list goes on.
Lists of damage that toxic chemicals like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic can cause on the human body. The reason i don't need to prepare any material is because wverything is already prepared
Teenage mutant ninja turtles, i've been in love with the tmnt franchise since i was a little kid with my tmnt backpack. I have at least a little something to say about most versions, and there are lots of them. The rant about why micheal bay's version is actually peak would last a decent portion of the time limit i think
Shiori experience, it's one of my favorite mangas rn and i could go on forever about it. The story, the protagonist, the characters, FUCKING JIMI HENDRIX, the artstyle, the movement on each panel, the fact that somehow they managed to draw MUSIC in a way that makes you almost hear it by just looking at the panels without even writing out the lyrics for you.
That was more than six actually my bad. You're supposed to tag people to do the same right? It's been months since i've been tagged and i can't remember teehee~ @aygaaazef1r0 @amndrkwe @belateeegfya14 start writting chop chop

It all starts in the city of St. Canard, a metropolis overrun with the worst kind of crime: super crime. And like any other major metropolis, it has problems with the criminal element. But a purple protector stands alone, dutifully watching for any crime that will come to and stand in his way. From Megavolt to Bushroot to Quackerjack and beyond, the masked mallard, Darkwing Duck has his hands full protecting the city with the much-needed help from Gosalyn and Launchpad McQuack. Somehow, Demona had crossed over to St. Canard and is now unleashed upon an unsuspecting cartoonish world. Now Demona is determined to find a way to return home...all while destroying and conquering St. Canard in the process, with the help of Darkwing Duck’s nefarious ne’er-do-wells. But she didn’t come alone: The Manhatten Clan, consisting of Goliath, Hudson, Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, Bronx, Angela, and their human friend, NYPD detective Elisa Maza, are all hot on Demona’s trail. The Gargoyles’ encounter with the Duck Knight puts their skills to the test. Happy 20th birthday to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003!
Tumblr media
I remember around 15 years ago, when I was at the ripe age of 5-6 years old, someone gave me a TMNT DVD for my birthday. I wasn't exactly into action shows like that at the time and pretty much hated it, but my mom told me to give it a chance and put it on for my anyway. It was this show that made me realize just how much I love superheroes.
TMNT 2003 is something special. It's the most loyal show to the original Mirage comics, for one, with literal episodes taken directly from the pages themselves. Even the first lines of the show are from the first issue! Who can ever forget Leonardo's iconic line: "He's wrong. We're not wearing costumes." I still get shivers hearing the delivery of those sentences to this day.
And let's not forget that it was this iteration that basically confirmed the TMNT multiverse in dare I say the greatest turtle movie ever released yet: Turtles Forever. Because of that movie, we know that every past iteration and future iteration is connected to one another, and, whenever one version of the story ends, we have the hope in our hearts that it might not actually be the last we'll see of those specific turtles, whether it be in future references, actual crossovers, or something else entirely.
And, of course, we can't forget that this was the first cartoon version of the turtles that apparently swore, albeit it only in some of the few comic issues of the show ever released.
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love that? If you're a fan of 2003, by the way, you should definitely check out the comics they released of it. If not all of them, just check out issue #5. It's become one of my favorite comic books ever (of all time) just because of how absolutely raw it is. The comics really did not hold back at all.
Which, by the way, is true for the show, too! Who could ever forget iconic episodes like Same As It Never Was, which ended up literally scarring us as kids by showing a fascist, apocalyptic future that was supposedly indirectly Donatello's doing, where we had to watch three of our turtle boys literally die? I can never forget, at least. That episode gave me nightmares for a bit when I was a kid. Did I still end up watching it? Of course! I needed to see how the Shredder ended up getting defeated!
I could go on and on about this series (and I have, if you're someone I know in real life and are a victim of my ramblings of it), but I'll cut this short here for all of your sakes. I'll just end it with this: thank you, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird— and 4Kids Entertainment—for giving us a show that would stick with me for so long. I don't know where I'd be without the teenage mutant ninja turtles. It's literally the show that became my gateway to Marvel! So, instead of arguing about which version is better than which, let's take today to celebrate these idiot turtle boys for what they are: an amazing, creative story that brings us all together with one universal truth: Things Change, but that may not always be a bad thing.

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day!
