Can people please not be weirdly aggressive and nasty in my notes on one of my posts that’s not even remotely controversial? 🥲 Surely there’s someone out there shooting out a hot take dump somewhere on tumblr that you can get into it with in their tags?

So hey, TMNT fans, now that the release of Mutant Mayhem is drawing near, I think now is a good time to remind people to tag your spoilers.
For a good two months or so after the film is released, please use tags so that people can block them if they don't want the movie spoiled for them. Not everyone will have a chance to see the movie right away.
It's common courtesy to tag your posts--whether it's art, writing, screenshots, videos, etc--with spoiler tags and main tags.
DON'T BE A JERK. TAG YOUR SPOILERS.

All right y'all I'm about to take a hard stance that will invite the worst possible accusations into my inbox:
IF YOU HAVE BEEN (OR SUSPECT YOU SHOULD BE) DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD, FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK GET A SLEEP STUDY. Get. a. sleep. study. I don't care if you "don't feel tired", get a sleep study anyway. You don't have to go through a doctor, there are online companies that will do them for you right at home.
95% of people with sleep apnea have attention deficits. The co-occurrence of sleep-breathing disorders and ADHD is as high as 50%. Sleep-breathing disorders are highly correlated with depression and anxiety.
The severity of sleep-breathing disorders is NOT highly correlated with symptoms - aka, you can have medically "mild" sleep-breathing disorders (think, snoring) that can fuck up your entire life and health and attention-capacity. You no longer even need literal apneas (stopping breathing in your sleep) to be diagnosed (which used to be a blocker for people falling in 'mild' disorder category), if you have certain % oxygen desaturations and arousals, that is enough.
The thing about fucked up sleep is you don't remember waking up, because you are MOSTLY asleep, but the wake-ups wreak havoc on your sleeping and health and attention-capacity.
GET A SLEEP STUDY.

i keep having people follow me after seeing various princess AU posts & i've discovered i'm on the list of top toh blogs on tumblr at the moment
& my heart rate just spiked So Bad.
no one has been mean or confused so far but please please please god PLEASE know: 1) i write a LOT of fic & meta about child abuse that involves belos being Very Very Very Upsetting (all the princess AU fic prior to luz killing him is some flavor of this), and 2) i'm a multishipper polyshipper who writes weird poly & queerplatonic stuff. that does Not easily fit into nuclear found family dynamics. or mainstream ship expectations.
people who've been here for a while already know this and have likely seen me make posts to this effect before. but i have to reiterate it sometimes because i've been told that i'm kind of. A Lot. and it's often offputting to fans who are looking for softer stuff.

Fun fact for fictives:
You do not need to be exactly like your canon counterpart! You don't!
Nobody has a say in what you should be, and if they try to, you do not have to listen to them!
Because you are you and you very well could have had different friends, upbringings, events in your life, likes/dislikes, and plain and simple just be not like your canon self for any reason at all, including no reason.
You do not need to be 100% canon compliant to be a "valid and acceptable fictive"!

Little disclaimer about endo “syscourse”. Mild TW!for brief mentions of $H and Su1cid3
Okay, as an anti-endo system one thing we feel the need to address about “syscourse” is that when people say they’re anti endo or try to educate someone, that is not anyone trying to invalidate anyone’s experience. It’s just when you claim a trauma disorder can form without trauma and then go around spreading misinformation it creates a stigma around the disorder that impacts so many people with dissociative disorders, even if they’re not part of a system. Your lived experience ARE valid, HOWEVER, there are other explanations for what you’re experiencing, a lot of which don’t require trauma. It’s okay to be wrong but it’s not okay to create a stigma around already heavily stigmatized disorders and mental health conditions. Even when it comes to things like IFS therapy, there’s an important distinction that it’s not the same as an actual system, yes the parts are valid and real, but nowhere near the same, and in all honesty just because the s stands for systems, doesn’t mean using that terminology and other terms created for/by systems doesn’t do genuine harm.
The first people to popularize the concept of having this disorder without trauma were not professionals, one of which had the disorder but denied it and refused to take any treatments, and the other didn’t have it but claimed he did because he had some dissociative symptoms, even though you can dissociate without trauma and have some other dissociative disorders without trauma(some require trauma, some don’t, but for all o them it’s more likely to be developed with it). Both of these people created very dangerous stereotypes about systemhood, both encouraging the stereotypes we are dangerous, and just spreading a lot of misinformation and even encouraging su1cid3 and $H. Additionally, tulpamancy and religious beliefs are not the same as being a system. The DSM (and I believe the ICD as well) specifies that. So please stop using system terminology or claiming to be one without trauma, your experiences are valid, but that doesn’t automatically make you a system. Please do some research.
With that said, any repeated or prolonged trauma is “enough” to form the disorder, and it doesn’t need to be super severe on the brink of death abuse or anything like that. Medical trauma is a valid, emotional abuse/neglect is valid, sibling trauma is valid, your trauma is valid even if it “wasn’t that bad”. It does need to be during formative years to form a system, but what you went through, no matter how old you were is still valid, and no one is trying to say it isn’t. It IS possible you don’t remember your trauma, but dont force yourself to remember it without professional help, and don’t claim to have a trauma based disorder until you’re sure you have trauma.Thank you for your time reading this.
also this is the one post we’re not putting anti endo tags, outside of this post and conversations that may stem from this Endos please DNI.

For the assumption game (it's silly). You want Matthew to grow his hair out and take care of his curls.
An eminently reasonable assumption. I also love his hair short, but if he's going to have it longer, he needs to a) try out the curly girl method and b) ACTUALLY LET IT FLOW. No mullet, no racing stripes. Show us that mane, baby. I know you've got it in you.

I'm the anon! I wasn't meaning you specifically. I actually think you've been doing an amazing job at stating the facts without letting biases show one way or another. Mostly I'm referring to some tags I saw and the salty post, in addition to YEARS of seeing people on twitter acting snobbish and like the western fandom (in particular after the 7s novels came out) are lesser, ignorant, or a plague. Might've been a bit of projection on my part but the aforementioned notes and comments from others in your posts reminded me of those attitudes (or how if unchecked they could become as rancid). My bad that I didn't clarify specifically what I meant. I love your posts and that's why I would hate to see them be used by bad faith actors to delegitimize "western" voices. Yes, we need to be humble and come from a place of being open to learning and not imposing our pov, but it's also unfair when we're being subject to higher standards and scrutiny that other non-english speaking parts of the fandom are.
Ahh I see!
Even though SVSSS is a Chinese novel written primarily for Chinese readers, the fandom itself is massively diverse. All sorts of different people from everywhere in the world have found things they enjoy about this book, and it means a lot to them— and I think that’s neat.
No one should be made to feel like they have no place in the fandom, or aren’t allowed to create fanworks. No matter where you come from, what your background is, there’s no reason you can’t be an equal part of the fandom — and yes, this also includes western fandom.
One other thing: there is nothing wrong with ignorance itself either. Everyone is ignorant of everything until they learn. If western fandom is ignorant, but they are trying to learn things, then what good is beating people down going to do? Only take any joy out of learning, only creating bitterness.
Western fandom is still SVSSS fandom, still people who enjoy this book.
It’s important to remember this is for fun. All of this, all fan creations and fandom in general is because a bunch of people from all sorts of backgrounds all liked one novel. As a Chinese person, I really love that people actually care to learn about Chinese culture through things like this. To see people genuinely interested in a positive way, it’s really nice!! It’s refreshing, and while my own life experiences make me quite wary of westernization, it also gives me an appreciation for this genuine interest, and this embracing of learning. I’ve seen much more instances of western fandom actually wanting to learn and being interested and curious than being willfully ignorant.
Everyone has a place in fandom, no matter if Western, Chinese, or anyone else. There’s nothing good that will come of gatekeeping people’s enjoyment of a book or participation in fandom.
