My phone linked me to a news article (it sometimes shares them with me). Now, this may be tabloid nonsense. But if it isn't, then screw you Bruce Timm. Saying Superman is worse than Batman! I'll have you know that Superman is infinitely cooler than Batman! Infinitely Cooler!

One of my biggest pet peeves is the justice league being labelled as " The Avengers of DC" and its like. No? The avengers are law enforcement. The Justice League are volunteers
#its like -- captain america is the staple of US military and Superman is a public servant#the one avenger member who has no bounds or legal obligation is tony and its bc hes rich. you could argue that he actually lost#autonomy when shield recruited him because like. protection isn't necessary tied to 'good.' the avengers protect the planet bc sure#its what they believe in and feel like its their duty and yada yada but ultimately they're self serving and most of their#help is accidental. i say most of bc we've seen they abstain from getting involved unless they have a common interest#with dc its like. you have these people in a position of privilege (having superpowers -- which gives them a spot of advantage to ppl who#dont have it) who do the right thing because they WANT TO. and they can stop at any time because nothing stops them.#they COULD say 'yeah you're on your own. we don't really care anymore. duces!' but they Dont.#because through its many flaws dc realizes that goodness isn't only a choice -- its a responsibility#theres probably better ways to say this but. alas#batman#superman#wonder woman#green arrow#aquaman#the justice league#tjl#justice league#dc#dc comics#text#text post

Bruce decides it's finally time to reveal his identity to Clark but he does not want to make this into a whole Thing™. He does not want this to be a big emotional moment, he just wants it to be done--he would tell Clark over text if he could but he knows Clark would never let him live it down. So one day when they're completely alone in the watchtower discussing a mission, Bruce just reaches up and takes off the cowl while Clark is talking, and Clark freaks out bc literally what the fuck?
Bruce realizes he may have underestimated the reaction he would get and maybe there should have been some build up, bc now Clark is freaking out twice over. One, because his best friend just revealed his identity which is a Big Deal™, and two, bc it's Bruce fucking Wayne. If Bruce had said something first, Clark would've at least been prepared for some shocking information, but no, and now Bruce has to awkwardly sit there while Clark goes through the seven stages of grief.
#batman is dramatic even when he is trying not to be#he is now wishing he had just told clark over text#then he wouldn't have to sit through the proceeding freak out#clark is so mad#“why would you do this to me B?”#“you finally reveal yourself like /this/???”#“there were literally so many better ways to do this!?”#batman#bruce wayne#superman#clark kent#superbat#dc#dc comics#mine

Submitted Prompts #144
*shakes a bag of bird skulls I found in the woodsI and places it on your desk like it's a bag of gold*
I had an idea:
What if the Fenton parents are, in fact very competent Hunters, but they love their children more than their work?
Say the first shot Maddie ever fired at Phanton actually lands, and the scream he makes sounds too much like Danny's voice, to a point even with any ghostly distortion, his own still recognizes the voice.
I can see her pulling Jack to the side, making a ruckus about how the "darn ghost got away just as her blaster ran out of juice". Mostly as a way to get Danny her darling son to leave and go somewhere safe, while his parents have a whole breakdown in the GAV about their dead son.
And so begins the stealthy studies on how Phantom's "human disguise" works, the Revelation of Horrible Truth, keeping tabs on Danny's growth and revising their whole attitude on Ghosts to account for the fact that Danny himself is, at least in some part, a Ghost himself, but all he's done is live his life (and be the little hero Mom always said he'd grow up to be).
Jazz stumbles across his secret and is immediately pulled aside to join the secret "Protect the Baby Ghost" family group chat.
"And what about all the times they shot at him in canon" I hear you ask?
They're damn good shots, but while Maddie can train herself to aim just so that the shot misses just enough it looks like Phantom dodged it, Jack has the Fenton Bazooka outfitted with a tracking HUD that purposely fails to hit everyone's favorite Ghost Boy.
Danny picks up on that, but not on the fact that They Know.
And so begins the single most convoluted training arc ever.
Next time Skulker's in town, Phantom has become untouchable. Not a single shot or electrified net reaches it's target.
(The electrified weapons in particular send the Fentons into a rage when Sam and Tucker finally can't keep hiding it, and come clean about what happened, since the Fentons have proven themselves to be trustworthy)
When Red Huntress comes about, and Valerie Grey becomes barely a distant acquaintance after having only just now started becoming more than a friend, and with the GIW sniffing about, Maddie and Jack pull Danny to sit between them and finally tell him they know, and they want to prove that they'll love him just as much as before, whether Human or Ghost.
Danny breaks down in the safety of his family's love, and takes some time off as Phantom to help his parents establish a proper line of communication with the Ancients, considering they've kinda adopted themselves into the roles of Aunts and Uncles towards their little Ghostling.
Which is a good thing, because in Phantom's absence the GIW make a giant spectacle of destroying several houses while chasing some blob ghosts. They're chased out of town by brick, stone and metal bat.
Next time Red Huntress actually manages to hurt Danny, the Fentons pack up and leave. The Portal can be transported somewhere else. It can be rebuilt.
Their baby boy can't be rebuilt, no matter how much he likes to be a little shit and ignore Reality to quote Shakespeare at his own head (thank you Mr Lancer, for not giving up on him) or "give them a hand".
As Fenton takes the last tour of Amity, Phantom disappears. The Protal has been left seemingly unguarded.
The Ghosts decide to have one last hurrah in Anity Park before Danny closes the Portal, as per their deal. They won't hurt anyone, just cause chaos, but in return Phantom won't stop them. It's not like poor Red has the energy to chase them down, now that she's been "upgraded" into Amity's sole defender (the one time Lancer compares her new lack of sleep to Danny's, horrifying pieces start lining up too well in her mind)
The Fentons move out. Into a quiet farm neighbouring the land that belongs to the delightful couple that are the Kents, and their darling son, little Clark, who stares at Danny mildly horrified whenever he comes by to babysit, or help out with fixing the stubborn tractor. One day under Danny's clever hands, and Jonathan Kent's eagle-eyed gaze, and that damned tractor has never worked so well before. The boy's alright in the old man's eyes, and he makes sure they kid knows it.
After quiet rooftop admissions of one small boy's growing powers (I know Adult Clark is a brick house of a man, but what if he was a little twig while young) and the reveal of Something More Than Human from his honorary older brother, the course of Time sets into it's best version, and an Old Clock smiles, as Superman rises, only to be scolded by Spectre for recklessness.
(Dunno how well it came across, but I'm envisioning Valerie's feelings towards Danny to go from bitter resignation because she " had to" push him away, to horrified despair when the truth starts falling into place. He's her "the one that got away". And it's not like she gave him much of a reason to trust her with his secrets.
Maybe older and wiser Red Huntress gets invited to the Justice League, and has to deal with not just Fenton, but also Phantom flirting with her, after a good long conversation on how dumb they both were as kids, and a mutual vow of "I think I can do better now, and I want to prove it to you")
#dpxdc#bones submissions#I started thinking 'what if the fentons were good parents'#and then the 'what if their skirmishes in canon were just playfighting and training' met 'Fenton-Bad-Aim'#and then when I thought where one might put a Ghost Portal where it won't be a bother#the thought 'put it in a fam shed' struck me#and so i had to bring Baby Clark and Ma and Pa Kent into it#Clark jumps off one roof and Danny thinks he knows a little better what he put Jazz through when it was his turn#later whenever Superman mentions his older brother and eveyone expects a Kryptonian#early-days Batman absolutely expects another spandex and cape hero#maybe some superman ripoff#until the Zeta activates for a Guest and in walks a man in black armor#and starlight cape#with a fur collar#and everyone thinks 'ooooh Supes is this one's ripoff'#and then the regal image is shattered because Danny coos at the heroes#many of them are babies when compared to his own experiences as as Hero and how long he's been at it#the Green Lanterns feel him pass by in the way a diver feels a whale swim by singing at them

Okay this misconception keeps coming across my dash and it drives me nuts because it means people are lumping two very different versions of the DC universe under one disparaging banner. So let me just say this to get it off my chest because I'm this close to shaking somebody:
The New 52 ended seven years ago in 2016.
That started a section of DC's history called "Rebirth" in which they started bringing elements of the pre-Flashpoint continuity back into the timeline. The first changes came in a big burst called Convergence -- which is how Jon Kent effectively manifested fully formed at 10 years old -- while other reintroductions like Kon-El, Bart Allen, Cass Cain, etc. were more gradual.
The original plan, being forced through by King of Bad Decisions Dan Didio, was that after ~4-5 Rebirth would give way to another full reboot known as 5G. I could go into detail about the plans but they're honestly not important to this post because Didio was (thankfully, finally) ousted from his role as publisher early in 2020, along with something like 80% of the higher-level editorial staff. DC had a complete creative turn-over at the start of the pandemic and completely changed directions as a result. The material being developed for 5G was retooled into the hypothetical future event "Future State" to buy the new staff time to pull together their new direction.
That new direction is called INFINITE FRONTIER. It started in 2021 and THAT is the era of DC comics we're in now. Infinite Frontier is an active push to bring back the pre-Flashpoint characters, as well as some pre-Crisis ideas and characters, while also keeping the few elements of the New 52 that people actually liked (like Jason Todd's more heroic characterization) and actively pursuing diversity initiatives both in creative staff and in creations. And outside of the big events, they're making a real effort to keep these comics short and self contained in the hopes that that'll make them more accessible. So it's actually really easy, if you read comics pre-Flashpoint and dropped off, to just pick up a series and go with the flow. Anything confusing is just a Google away.
Please, please don't make the mistake of thinking modern comics are as bad as the New 52 just because some people are butthurt their ship isn't getting canonized. There have been some really good comics made in the last few years that you should totally try! Spirit World, Monkey Prince and the entire We Are Legends line has been genuinely fantastic. The new Birds of Prey is shaping up to be a ton of fun. Dark Knights of Steel is an entertaining Elseworld. Urban Legends and Brave & the Bold have done some really fun things with shorter anthology books. One Minute War was a really fun Flash family event and everything Stargirl's done recently is liable to make you cry.
I'm begging people to give these comics a chance. It's just really sad to see them being dismissed out of hand.
#dc comics#batman#bat family#superman#wonder woman#superheroes#idk man#the way people talk about comics sometimes just makes me sad#i love comics#i usually want to talk about how good they are#and I only talk about the ones that are bad because I want them to be better#i just hate so much to see the really good comics getting published today#being lumped in with the mean spirited mess that was the New 52

I think my favorite idea for Kon's origin in maws is that Monsieur Mallah and the Brain are the ones who made him. Like, can you imagine? MM comes in with his little accent like "my apologies Clark, Brain and I have always wanted a child to call our own, and when we brought it up to Jimmy at brunch, he offered to obtain a strand of your hair for us" or some shit adjacent, like the homosexual agents of chaos that they are
#i mean COME ON#and you just know jimmy would be an enabler too#way better theory than Clex#my adventures with superman#maws#maws spoilers#maws season 3#kon el#conner kent

I’m so tired of the “batfamily can defeat all their friends” trope like bffr.
Batman? Sure he can cheat and bring out some kryptonite but you really think he’s gonna defeat WONDER WOMAN?
Nightwing: maybe Roy, but Donna Troy literal Amazonian trained by Wonder Woman? He’s done for. And Garth the magic user. What’s he gonna do throw his escrisma stick at him? Wally West former temporal being? He’s dead before he can comprehend what is happening.
Jason Todd: I actually fully believe and stand by the idea that Roy Harper would defeat Jason in a fight, no I will not be accepting criticism. Don’t even try to tell me he stands a chance against my girl starfire. (I know he’s also friends with Artemis and bizarro but I try to avoid reading anything that involves Jason Todd)
Tim drake: bro’s got a kryptonian, Amazonian, and a speedster as friends. I don’t care if he’s a good detective, he’s getting the brakes beaten off him.
Damian Wayne: only one of his friends I know enough about is currently THE Superman. I know he can use kryptonite but that’s like tying a dude to a chair then beating them up and saying you won a fight against them.
I will not be including Stephanie brown, Cassandra Cain, or Duke Thomas because I actually like them and because I haven’t seen them interact with other DC characters enough to actually speak on this.
But guys I know they’re like “geniuses” or whatever, but they’re not the only ones…
As someone said on another post “who wins: Batman with prep time or Wonder Woman with her fist”
#that feels like a good way to end this rant#guys I’m sorry I’m always hating on the batfamily#they’re just so annoying#they make it so easy#I actually start tweaking when people try to say that Batman defeats the whole justice league#I don’t care how much prep time he has or whatever weapons he uses#what’s he gonna do against a man who can blitz him within 1 millionth of a second#and when they dumb down other characters to bring up the batfamily#I’m so sorry Roy Harper#you deserve better#dc comics#batfam#wally west#bart allen#Wonder Woman#diana prince#Superman#clark kent#donna troy#garth of shayeris#roy harper#kon el#superboy#wonder girl#cassie sandsmark#starfire#koriand'r#jon kent#justice league#titans

What if, by implanting the codex into Clark, Jor-El accidentally put something else inside of his son? Something Eldritch, or ancient Kryptonian. Something old and instinctual that only comes out of Clark/Kal-El at the right time.
#something to do with Bruce#because I am superbat trash#but also#there’s hardly any mention of the codex in Clark or how he inserted it exactly#or why it had to be that way#I’m so curious#maybe someone else can jump in and explain better#Clark kent#Kal el#superman#man of steel#kryptonian biology#eldritch

What are Clark & Bruce's love languages for each other?
I think Bruce's would be acts of service and gifts. He's a fixer, and he'll jump at any opportunity to help others, specially those he loves. Thing is, he's also a bit controlling (understatement of the century), so he'll most likely do these acts of service without asking first (same with the gifts), and I can imagine that, at least in the beginning, it'll bother Clark. But he'll eventually get that that's how Bruce shows he loves him, and he'll make a point to ask him to not intervene whenever he deems necessary.
I can also imagine a situation where Clark tells him he doesn't like expensive gifts, so Bruce's solution is to make his gifts more personalized and meaningful. Bruce would give Clark the most earth-shattering sweet gift, like something he made with his own hands and worked on for months, and he would just shrug and say "it's nothing, I just thought you would like it" while Clark is on the verge of tears.
Clark's love languages would be words of affirmation and quality time. It's canon that he doesn't shy away from telling it to Bruce how it is (more often than not, that means calling him on his bullshit), and I don't think it would be any different when it comes to telling him directly how much he cares for him and showing his affection with words. Of course, Bruce would short-circuit for a second, but he'll get used to it. I also like to think that Clark would try to make time to be with Bruce as often as he could. He would visit him at the cave and accompany him while he works, or drop by during patrol just to say hi.
#for a moment there I thought of adding physical touch as Clark's love language#but on better thought I realized neither relies on touch in the comics#regardless I still think that touch would be important for them in the sense that even if it doesn't happen often#it would be loaded and significant when it does happen#like a squeeze on the shoulder or a soft touch of hands would have a monumental meaning for them#anyway can you imagine bruce showing up one day and casually saying “hey I bought you a penthouse” and clark just stares at him like wtf xD#he makes him return it or donate it or something like that#for the other way around you can imagine clark casually dropping a “you're so cute and I adore you” and bruce having a blue screen moment#(sorry for taking this long to answer your asks I've been a bit busy and I've been working on a fic too)#superbat#bruce wayne x clark kent#batman x superman#superbat asks#superbat thoughts

I just can’t get over the cool cool scene in Will’s bedroom oh my god.
The fact that Mike “gets kicked into gear when the people he loves are in danger and usually makes apologies and confessions in the heat of the moment (or hes forced to either by circumstance or friends after refusing to apologize)” Wheeler goes up to Will to apologize and get him back without any danger involved. As far as Mike knows, they’re just about to go on a “roadtrip”, and the danger is far ahead of them.
They had the other heart to heart before this, less centered around eachother, but still sweet and a clear indication of being on good terms. Mike could’ve went with that. He could’ve been satisfied with that. BUT HE WASN’T.
He purposefully goes to Will’s room just before they leave, before any danger arrives, to make sure they’re best friends. To make sure that Will knows Hawkins wasn’t the same without him, and that their friends are great but they’re not him. He apologizes without prompting, after a heart to heart that he totally could’ve considered enough.
May I also point out that Mike didn’t have to saying anything
BUT HE WANTED TO

I think Superman and Batman really paint a picture of almost two different philosophies. Superman is Hope personified, he embodies light and positivity. Batman is like the personification of Cynicism and Pessimism, a man who's very dark and edgy and intimidating. A man who's paranoid, doesn't trust easily and doesn't have many friends. And let me just say: batman is the one who's more relatable, but he's also the one I dislike. Maybe that says something about me. Because I'm as cynical and pessimistic as characters like batman, that makes me gravitate towards Superman. I need that happy, hopeful feeling. I need it to ground myself. So superman is definitely the more important character to me.
#i haven't read too many comics with either of them#but i can still have a preference#and superman is just way better#i may have a bias because one of his creators was canadian#but i don't think that changes my strong opinions on matters like these#superman#clark kent#batman#batman critical#my thoughts#random thoughts#rambles#philosophical
