Antis will be like “Jiang Cheng never viewed Wei Wuxian as family, he was treated like a servant!!! 😠😠😠” but like… if I showed up day-drunk to work, stopped performing my basic duties, kept skipping out when the most support was needed rebuilding, escalated fights during diplomatic events, and refused to tell anyone why I’d started behaving like this, I would definitely get fired. But instead Wei Wuxian has to quiet quit and then actually quit when even that doesn’t work, because as far as we can tell Jiang Cheng would've let him stay as first disciple forever no matter what. So like, if Jiang Cheng thinks of himself as just Wei Wuxian's boss, he does a pretty bad job of treating Wei Wuxian as just an employee.
Are there complicated class dynamics and internal senses of responsibility and debt and duty and obligation fucking both of them up? Absolutely. But Wei Wuxian is definitely not just a servant or a debtor, it’s much, much messier and more complicated than that--which is kind of the problem.

okay genuine question, have there actually been significant instances of people trying to force others to start using tone indicators and calling them ableist if they don't? what I have seen are primarily young ND people using tone indicators amongst themselves and sometimes asking if other people would also do so when interacting with them, followed by a deluge of posts from older ND people saying that tone indicators make no sense and should never be used at all. from my vantage point, that's all read like a group of adults seeing teens using new slang that they don't personally click with and thinking "am I out of touch? no, it is the children who are wrong," but at this point I'm wondering if I missed something. have people really been trying to force this or is it another classic case of making fun of disabled children on the internet.

man idk that "detransitioners" are even a thing. as in "oh god i made a terrible mistake and mutilated my perfect female body forever" like yeah some people who fit this description probably exist (but are definitely used by transphobes & also are transphobic themselves) but 1) there is immense pressure (social, economical, familial, medical, and otherwise) about not transitioning, and i hardly think that the fictional group of Malignant Militant Transgendereds Bwainwashing Ouw Poow Weetle Giwls Online would have any power compared to the overwhelmingly anti-transition pressure coming from Literally Everywhere 2) most "detransitioners" that i've personally met or heard of (ex-transmasc people, haven't met any transfem detransitioners - FOR SOME REASON HMMMM!) are like. you know. nonbinary lesbians. a demographic most notably known for their complicated relationship to womanhood & gender in general & blurring the frontier between butch lesbians & trans men. you know who personally brainwashed me and persuaded me that i was a "confused" butch lesbian and not a trans man and that it would be morally corrupt of me to transition tho? a close friend who turned out to be a full-blown TERF only a few months after i'd stopped seeing her & who kept parrotting terf rhetoric at the time (not that i noticed back then). that would have made me a (social) detransitioner at the time and it took several years to repair the damage she did. you can't say that trans people are the ones who brainwash and manipulate innocent cis people into transitioning when the exact opposite is often happening for real

i anxiously await the day that fandom realizes you dont need to have a reason—moral or not—to dislike something. you realize that you’re allowed to just…not vibe with something right?

all due respect to that one post bc I get where it’s coming from but if you’re trying to justify fandom’s laser focus on male characters by saying that ‘women are written so poorly on TV, of course everyone wants to write about the much more complex and well written men’ I need you to think a little harder. like writing about women is not a hardship. it’s actually so fucking easy. it’s fanfiction. make that shit up. I know you are not exclusively writing about TV from the 70s. maybe consider that half your little guy’s depth of character is inferred and stop making it someone else’s problem that you don’t want to write about women. you literally can do what you want. stop pretending like you’re being forced into it. it’s not that deep.

i had a dream that i was being made to cook things i would, but mostly would not eat, and that i wasnt being told where to put anything. i was just being told what to make, and being watched while i did it, and i made everything wrong and put everything in the wrong places because i wasnt being told how to do anything, just what to do. i ended up putting burger ingredients in a paper bag not stacked as a burger, and there was 4 whole pieces of cotton candy in there somewhere, and i remember dropping a lot of things on the floor. i dont even like burgers. the people watching me did nothing but order me around and judge me, and at the end they just walked away while saying it was my fault i didnt do it right, despite the fact they never actually told me how.
so anyway for some reason i had a dream that summarized my whole life and what it feels like for me i guess

it is completely understandable to be uncomfortable with the sexual assault in dandadan. it's important to discuss how it's framed, whether it's handled poorly, or if it could be been portrayed better. but the number of people - even fans - stating that it is only fanservice, irrelevant, or could be removed is frankly bizarre to for SO many reasons, starting with the fact that this parallel exists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the anime made it even more obvious by interpolating cuts from the first scene into the second one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i thought this scene showed that momo gaining her powers by believing in her relationship with her grandmother gives her the strength to fight back against what is basically a horrific, much more aggressive and abstract (maybe even absurd?) representation of her shitty gross ex - who was demanding she 'put out' and pay for the love hotel in very first scene.
Tumblr media
while the escalation from one scene to the next is surprising, it's not something that comes out of nowhere. this first scene is meant to be a set-up to what will happen later. it sets the tone, though significantly more lighthearted at this point. it tells you that sex, sexuality, etc. is something dandadan will touch on - though you don't know what the scope and depth will be until later in the chapter.
i cannot recommend this video enough, as it discusses some interesting interpretations of what the serpoians and turbo granny represent in their respective assault scenes, as well as how right now the treatment of both scenes is unfortunately uneven.
more notes about plot and thematic relevance below the cut. spoilers for anime-onlies (up to chapter 8, will probably be covered in episodes 4/5).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
momo was assaulted, and almost cut up by the serpoians, much like the other victims turbo granny appeared around. this is an intentional parallel. turbo granny goes to momo because that is what she does. again, SUPER unclear how that factors into turbo granny's assault of ken, but if we keep the video's interpretation of cynicism in mind, it could be related to that; maybe turbo granny has a cynicism toward men - similar to momo in chapter/episode 1 - and this is why she chose to attack ken. unfortunately, it's still too early to really understand and explain a lot of her motivations.
again, completely understandable to not like how the sexual assault was handled or portrayed, and it's important to keep discussing it. but this is what dandadan does for many different types of trauma and difficult life experiences. this is a huge part of dandadan's identity. if you don't like it, that is fine, but calling the sexual assault 'just fan service' is blatantly untrue.

Yeah. Nice work, buddy. Now I know you're a yank. Yank, man, too. Late teens to early twenties. All full of rage and directionless anger and the victim of a school system designed to leave them half people who cannot use words to articulate. Not fully human and guided only by spite. I'd feel bad for them if they didn't continually reinforce that all they have is hate and violence in their heart, the only way they can feel anything is to hurt people and would gladly murder everyone slightly different from them if daddy told them too.
what the fuck. is this a shitty copypasta?? obviously bc I am NOT the kinda person to murder people for being slightly different from me. i wouldn't even murder someone just bc they wanted me to die (i mean unless they were threatening to do something about it).
also why you act like i was hiding i am from the usa?? my bio clearly states i am from california. a quick google search shows that is in the usa.
i mean damn im all for copypastas if they are funny or at least accurate. im sure there are much better candidates on here for this copypasta.

i feel like there's this really common misconception that since 3rd life, scar has repeatedly been some helpless victim to grian as he yearns for him but is disregarded at every turn. but honestly, watching and analyzing both their povs especially from LL and DL, this is really untrue
you know, last life DOES have the whole "grian stealing scar's life" thing, but after scar takes yellow snow it's marked as water under the bridge for him. for GRIAN though...
there's this whole conversation early in the series where scar, unprompted, Immediately starts denouncing sand, talking about how annoying and disgusting it is. if i were grian, i would absolutely take that as him denouncing their past together, and everything they stood for in the desert. there's so much vitriol in his voice that it's actually jarring. there's more, too, like scar going back on the soul crystal deal.
throughout the rest of the season, the two of them keep gravitating around each other. it's especially grian though, where you blink and suddenly he's at scar's side. there's this strange scene from scar's pov where they're at the top of magical mountain, and the southerners are on their way out after enchanting as red joel comes in. as joel talks to scar, grian lurks threateningly and protectively in the doorway, sword and crossbow in hand and trained on joel. he wasn't told to. his team has left him as he stands there dutifully. he watches from the background and helps in the subtle ways he feels comfortable, because he's so hurt by scar's casual cruelty and disdain toward 3rd life.
even if you don't think grian particularly cared about scar in last life though, something to consider is that grian is a character highly motivated by guilt. it overwhelms him. it is his tragic flaw in so many scenarios. a character this prone to guilt hearing scar's hatred for what represented the two of them would absolutely take that as "he hates me for what i did to him; he can't forgive me for killing him."
now double life is a BEAST to tackle because there's so much. but the most important stuff happens in episode one, because— and genuinely no one acknowledges this— scar spends the entire thing declaring his hatred for soulmates. all he does is proclaim his unwillingness to participate in it all, to the point where he's not planning to find his soulmate at all, and says, and I quote, "i don't care about my soulmate."
he doesn't just do this when he's by himself, but he says it directly to grian. several times. he even says, after grian's reveal, "do we need to base together?" and ignores grian's heartfelt, sentimental plea of "We don't have to but… i-it might be nice. If I can… look out for you…” to instead run away and take damage on purpose.
he continues throughout the season to be much more devoted to the jellies than anything else. scar is the one who invents soulmate torture! and he thinks this up before grian is even considering the secret soulmate thing, and when he starts doing it, it's when grian is entirely innocent of any wrongdoing. he starts it when grian says the jellies can't stay inside the base, but conveniently in his first episode, he cut out the part where grian outright says "no" to letting them stay. scar brings them anyway, and then villainizes grian for holding firm on the boundary he already blatantly set earlier... he even tells pearl she's lucky she doesn't have to deal with having a soulmate?
idk there's so much to their relationship especially in double life that i didn't cover here that shows that, as much as grian verbally played the role of "unwilling partner" in double life, from the jump he was devoted and loving. you can never go by what grian says, you can only go by his actions!! and his actions said over and over that he loved scar and wanted to be with him even if he was afraid, but scar (albeit unknowingly) denounced their bond at every turn. and his mind didn't change on soulmates, even after he found out his was grian.
this is something i can talk about for a million years and i have so much textual evidence but yeah ANYWAY scarian is mutually so toxic and weird and in love and im obsessed with them

This is actually hilarious because:
Wasps are not bees. They are both members of the Hymenoptera order, which also includes ants. You wouldn't say that an ant is a bee just because they're both members of the same order, so why would you argue that a wasp is a bee? Would you argue that a camel and a giraffe are the same species because they also share the same order (Artiodactyla)?
Out of the some 20,000 species of wasp, NONE produce honey. There is a genus called "Brachygasta" including 17 species that keep stores of nectar and honeydew in case of food shortages, but none produce honey. And certainly not from meat.
So yet again, you have a TRA blatantly lying in order to turn something into what it's not. "The wasp is right, and the bee relies on untrue myths to explain itself," is such bullshit.
Sadly, this post got something like 2,000 notes. People will blindly believe what a TRA says, especially if it's a lie constructed to undo a radfem point. So many logical fallacies.
Wasps are not bees. Men are not women.
