If show rick met comic carl how do you think it would go? How would he feel towards this version of him? and if comic carl and show carl swaped places with eachother (say during season 7) how would the plot change?
Oh gosh, that’s kind of a loaded question.
Honestly, it’s hard to say. I feel like show!Rick is so very far removed from the source material, to the point they are hardly the same character. The same goes for Carl.
I don’t think show!Rick would get along well with Carl’s comic version, because while comic!Carl becomes the more aggressive and wild card of the duo, I feel the opposite is the case for the tv show.
Show!Rick is completely unhinged in a way he never was in the comic book. He’s way more ruthless and reflective of this apocalyptic world, whereas show!Carl is not… I feel like in a hypothetical scenario like this, show!Rick would attempt to control comic!Carl in a way that might be kind of detrimental to their relationship? Idk. I mean, show!Rick does this even with show!Carl but the end result isn’t the same because show!Carl is almost entirely docile and does not have any of the edge that comic!Carl possesses.
I think if comic!Carl were to suddenly replace show!Carl, the end of the story would be a much bleaker one. Carl is a character that NEEDS his father’s guidance and hand to steady him psychologically. Without his father, he is lost. And I don’t think show!Rick is capable of providing that kind of guidance that is necessary for Carl to grow up and live long enough to have a family of his own and see a new dawn of civilization. I think comic!Carl would soak up show!Rick’s unhinged traits like a sponge and spiral, and probably become something much worse than what we see canonically. He wouldn’t just walk that line of anti hero, or take a beating on someone a bit too far. He would cross it. And I don’t know that he would come back from it with show!Rick being his tether.
This is also my gripe with the characterizations of the tv show. I think the biggest mistake they made early on, was having Rick kill Shane while he was still alive, instead of giving that canonical kill to Carl.
This death sets up Carl and Rick’s entire dynamic and relationship throughout the remainder of the comic book. Carl does things Rick can’t bring himself to. He reflects a new generation in a dying world. He toes that line of morality, and it scares Rick. It’s WHY Rick fights so hard to bring back a semblance of the old life. Because by doing so, he is continuing to save his son—not physically but psychologically.
Carl kills Shane without hesitation. This is who he is. He shoots first and thinks later for a lot of the story. He’s the wild card and completely unpredictable. He’s so engaging because we don’t know what’s going to happen to him, and for a lot of the story, that uncertainty is echoed in Rick, too.
But the show changes this crucial moment by making Rick have the guts to kill Shane. It completely changes the nature of their relationship as father and son, and the tone of the story from that point on. It also creates continuous wishy washy characterizations (because the writers kept trying to adapt the comic book but it didn’t work because they changed the central relationship). They make Carl Rick’s moral compass when Carl isn’t and never should have been. Rick shouldn’t look to Carl for guidance. It should be the other way around.
So, comic!Carl would be seeking guidance from Rick’s show counterpart and I think it would ultimately be disastrous.
This was a long answer lol, sorry! I love blorbos though so this was fun to ponder. Comic Rick and Carl are peak and I love them sm :)

#LITERALLY LITERALLY#i don't dislike their show dynamic but the show so severely underutilized carl and it never fails to drive me insane#WHY did they change the storyline with the twins. like that one especially makes me so mad. show needed more child on child violence.#carl is supposed to serve as the only character who is completely influenced by the new world they're living in#it hurt the show so much to keep him from going more morally gray. they gave me glimpses and nothing more :(#and then they killed him for no reason. stupid show. evil show. angry til i die about that one.#twd

LIKE sorry it's just so wild to see the ways being adapted for network tv pared down such a grimdark comic. bc they had to kill lori eventually but instead they gave her this cinematic, selfless, redeeming death culminating in her son having to shoot her corpse after she bleeds out from an emergency c-section that's basically been inevitable since we found out she was pregnant. which is honestly good tv!! one of the show's most memorable scenes and i would say it's pretty good writing!! but in the comic she gets gunned down holding the baby and it's just. so brutal. like just this unceremonious, cruel death for her and her child. which in any other story would feel too much but it's LITERALLY the walking dead which is LITERALLY a story of the world becoming cruel beyond belief while people watch themselves change to survive it or succumb. so many plotlines and major moments that were just too brutal to air on amc. hence why they somehow kept that damn crying baby alive for eight seasons.
#not advocating for baby death but like. is that not so incredibly unrealistic.#lowkey advocating for baby death as a walking dead plot device to convey hopelessness <3 love and light <3

reading a twd crossover fic and getting reminders of what happened in the show is SO crazy. i liked the show when it was good but i'm a twd comic stan first and foremost and god some of the changes the show made were so stupid. it did atone for a great many of them by making michonne into a hall of fame character (in large part by giving her andrea's storyline after a few seasons which i'm honestly neutral on bc andrea may be narrowly behind carl as my favorite character in the comics but god danai gurira is such an incredible actress and michonne in the comics is so wooden in comparison that i'm more glad we got to see those beats happen than i'm angry that they ruined andrea's character for no real reason in season 1) BUT man some of the changes are just silly. like they kept that baby alive for eight seasons or however long it went on. insane. in the comics that baby lives for MAYBE a month. also i'm always gonna be bitter that they came up with that fuckass pacifist angle for tyreese and gave him a sister instead of doing the fire murder mystery plot in the prison arc with his daughter and letting tyreese kill people with hammers (literally in the comics he's a retired nfl player whose primary weapon is a hammer and he's the closest thing to a leader besides rick they have for quite a while and easily rick's best friend. probably my third favorite twd comic character if i'm so real). also they lowkey neutered the governor. genuinely terrifying comic antagonist. like i'm not mad they cut some of the more disgusting stuff and the sexual violence but MAN did they make him lame in the show. plus they got rid of all the dismemberment. the governor loses an arm! RICK LOSES A HAND!!!! i get it would be a bitch for andy lincoln to be rocking a stump for years on a production level but come on........... rick only has one hand for like 80% of the comics and he still goes stupid with that handaxe. bottom line the show added some wild plots (terminus, carol's arc, some of the alexandria arc), some kind of eh plots (the cdc, the whole thing with that hospital), kind of butchered some of my favorite plots (carl kills shane, carl kills ben (btw why did they genderbend the twins), making andrea suck so bad that i feel like i'm crazy when i try to convince people she's so cool in the comics no seriously trust me, the prison murder mystery (!!!!!), woodbury, dale's death, etc), and too many forgettable and stupid plots to name. it's just so strange bc i do think there are places where the show is genuinely better than the comics, but there's way more places where the show changed things from the comics, for no real reason, to its own detriment that still piss me off to this day.
#haven't read them in a very long time but i brought the first compendium back from home recently#maybe that's my next voyage...............#i also will never be over the fact that many many people ragequit after glenn's death.#like guys. for the most part the show is loyal to the comics' major beats and he died like that in the comics years before the show#like i get it was a shock but people were mad at the show writers for this. divas. he was always gonna die like that.#now adding abraham dying there........... THAT was a fuckass show writer decision#they loooooooooved to mix and match people's causes of death for no reason. where was HIS arrow through the eye.#plus it's not even like these comics are like the terrible the boys comics or whatever like they're genuinely really good#and while the violence is more extreme in the comics it's usually to pretty good effect. like kirkman is a really good writer.#all this to say. read the comics they're even more horrifying but in a good way!#the show. i don't think there's any show that inspires the same conflicting emotions in me.#anyways. i could talk twd for hours.#met a guy doing twd trivia at a con in high school and not only was the first person to do both comic and show trivia#he also ran out of questions for me. never underestimate the power of a girl who spends too much time in her room.#oh btw i forgot my brand for a second so. i will never forgive scott gimple for killing carl. that decision still fills me with rage <3

about to be so deeply american but i have to say it. what is with this new trend of having to sub fries for 1.99 when you get a burger. who wants chips with their burger. their burger that's already like $15 mind you. 'oh i'll just get a burger and chips' NO!!!!! WHO SAYS THAT. WHY IS IT NORMAL NOW TO PAY EXTRA FOR FRIES. TO GET A BURGER AND FRIES.
#looking at the menu for the restaurant we're going to tonight with anguish as i am told the standard burger side is chips AGAIN#they're gaslighting me...........
