Okay so I'm working on my next lesson for my art sensitivity blog, but I saw a video today and realized that I am approaching this topic from what is a very culturally specific mindset. So!

(forgive the quality, I got it off the Internet)

100 Portraits Challenges - Part 8 and 9
Not real ambitions for character associations here. Just looking for interesting faces and a broader diversity of skin tones.
Part eight
49-50) American actress Julia Jones
51) American actor Ritesh Rajan
52 - 53) Sikh American designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia
54 - 55) Indian actor, martial artist and stuntman Vidyut Jammwal
Part nine
56) Harvey Guillén as Guillermo De la Cruz
57-58) Canadian/American/Gambian YouTuber Khadijah Mbowe
59) One of the portraits of the Humanae Series by photographer Angélica Dass
60) German rock musician Gil Ofarim
61) Ivorian model Aminata Sanogo
The Humane series by Angelica Dass is pretty neat. It shows both the broad variety and similarities across humans from all kinds of ethnicities.

It occurs to me that any scenario where aliens call humans "pinkies" is assuming that the majority of the humans they meet are actually paler than human average. Is there a sci-fi setting where humans are called "brownies"?
(That brings with it the potential for confusion about dessert food and household fae, too. Which is fun.)

I've changed up the way I paint a bit and had to go in and make some edits to my custom skin tone swatch set so they didn't run into brightness/burnout and over-saturation issues. So here's a new sheet with all of them for anyone who wants it. You can get the actual photshop .aco file that has them all organized by list title, name, pale, light, medium and dark groups when you switch your view out of the default and into the "small list" mode, like I have mine in all of my videos to more easily find stuff, on my Patreon if you want. I just exported all of my swatches for Patreon again though so you'll have all the different shades of blacks, whites, metals, and golds I have saved in my swatch sets as well. Otherwise just eye-drop and save the ones you want from this sheet I guess. Idc. Enjoy.

Please share this with other people, I spent hours working on this :)
I made this resource for digital artists to have something to reference and quickly color pick from for flat coloring. While I tried to include a diverse set of skin-tones some skin-tones are best conveyed by their highlights and undertones. Therefor they can't be conveyed by just one color, so I encourage people to play with highlighting and shading!
Please tag me if you use this to make art, I'd be delighted! :D
Also I may edit the pallet collection if people are able to suggest enough skin-tone colors that should be in it! I tried not to miss too many and if I don't get any suggestions I'll take it as I did a good job.
Anyway, please like and reblog! And follow because I'm an attention gremlin (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Why are East Africans darker than West Africans?
Most to all African people vary in color.
This question is like saying why do all Irish people only have red hair. Of course that is a grand generation. There's Irish people without red hair, and there's people with red hair that aren’t Irish.

Some of y'all be needing one of these bad boys before y'all start suggesting FCs for older, younger, and recasts for Black FCs, because, Baby, you muffuggas do not seem to know how skin colors look.
I need to make some of y'all a guide with people someday. You don't know what "dark skin" is. You don't know people can't grow up and become biracial when they was a monoracial kid. You don't know that two dark skinned parents will not make a quarter Black child, and the times that they make a light skinned child is not as common as it is on screen.
I... will help you. Someday. Not today. I'll make a lil' chart or something.

was originally going to write a lengthy post about how bewildered i am at people thinking i drew katniss as "dark-skinned" and "too dark" (one said that they imagined olive skin as being "creamy and tan" unlike the "dark brown" color i gave her???) but at this point all i'm gonna say is:
just because you imagined katniss as having light, lightly tanned, or light-medium olive skin doesn't mean that people cannot imagine/draw her as having skin darker than your preference. therefore it's perfectly ok for others to depict katniss and the rest of the seam as "brown" because olive skin comes in many shades and that includes... you guessed it, brown!
i seriously don't know why this is such a hard concept for people (i'm going to assume non-artists?) to understand.

Simple Skin Tone Ref Chart
I wanted to cover some VERY basic samples for commissions. Of course, these are not the extent of all the undertones and more, but they should be easy fun for commissions. I'll come up with more soon.

I was looking for what colors to use in coloring Māori skin tones as I am planning on doing a portrait of one of the clones (Fives, Cody, Rex, haven’t decided) and I came up with this fabulous reference page with exactly what I was looking for:
Tumblr media
So, the page this came from was deleted. However, I have a pdf copy of it on my iCloud drive so any artist wanting to create a color palette for Star Wars Clones (who are based off Temuera Morrison who is Māori, of Te Arawa (Ngāti Whakaue) and Tainui (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Rarua) whakapapa, and also has Scottish and Irish ancestry) or any other ethnic background can hit me up and I’ll post what I have ☺️
