Hunter x Hunter ships I personally don’t like

These are ships that are NOT supported on my page.

Edit: I have left my hater era… while I do not like these ships myself I won’t shame you for liking the legal ones. I am no longer present in ship discourse. I do not like these but I won’t stop others from enjoying them…. With that said please enjoy the LONG ass read.

Please note a couple things before reading.

1, I do not hate any ships for being WLW, MLM or NL (hetero) unless it’s the result of representation erasure (An example of this is in the Owl House Community. People ship Lunter and say that it’s ok because Luz is a canon Bisexual but it’s still WLW relationship erasure!!! I do not support Lunter btw…)

2, I’m gonna mention stuff like proshipping and toxic relationships so please be warned if you’re triggered by those types of things do not read under the cut

3, I’m also gonna talk about ships I lovehate due to having extremely mixed opinions.

Alright that’s all!! Enjoy your reading and please remember to respect my opinions and interpretations of the characters. This will also include spoilers for the entire animated series.

Killunary (Killua x Canary)

There are a couple reasons why I don’t like this ship but it’s mostly because of the power imbalance. Certain employee x employer ships just don’t work due to extreme power imbalance. The main example of this is the Zoldyck family and their abusive nature towards all the butlers, including how Kikyo treats Canary when she got close to Killua.

The other reason is because I see Killua as a heavily MLM coded character. And I’m sorry if you don’t agree but based on both his canon and non-canon interactions with the various women of the story, I don’t think he’s straight. I personally think he might be gay/vincian but it’s up to interpretation!! I cannot see Killua dating a girl. (This includes ships like KilluRetz and Killumane)

Hisomachi (Hisoka x Machi)

Again, Hisoka is a heavily MLM coded character with Machi being the only woman in the series he’s shown possibly romantic interest in. Hisoka himself is an extremely harmful stereotype of a gay man being overly flamboyant but also predatory towards kids and women. That is a stereotype that is shown and pushed VERY often with Hisoka. (If you do view Machi as WLW, which I do, she’s also a harmful stereotype of the mean, man hating, lesbian./lh)

Also the fact that Machi straight up rejected his dinner offer in the Heaven’s Arena Arc should be enough to push the fact that she doesn’t like him…

Edit: while Hisoka is MLM coded I personally see him as a pan man due to some random factors and just cuz I like it that way

Kuroneon (Chrollo/Kuroro x Neon)

Ok I only have like one reason but I feel like it’s validated tbh!!! He literally attacked her and stole her ability. And I don’t wanna go on a whole rant about Neon and her complexities rn but her nen ability, lovely ghostwriter, was essentially the only reason for her father to love her and care the way he did…

Also their age difference urks me ALOT cuz Neon is about the same age as Kurapika (17-19) and Chrollo is pushin 30… T-T

Kurokura (Chrollo/Kuroro x Kurapika)

A lot of people ship them because “lol omg enemies to lovers!!” But like. This isn’t that kind of enemies to lovers hun… :// Chrollo and the troupe literally massacred the Kurta Clan with zero mercy and left Kurapika alone and almost defenseless in an unfamiliar world. He destroyed everything Kurapika had. That’s not something Kurapika would or will forgive easily. Kurapika is literally destroying himself inside out because of what the troupe did to the Kurta Clan. This ship is just ugh it’s so toxic I hate >:(

Also again, even if Chrollo didn’t destroy the Kurta Clan, age difference. Kurapika’s the same age as Neon (17-19) and Chrollo is PUSHING 30!!!!! Icky!!!

Tbh this goes for any of the Troupe x Kurapika… gross age difference and disgusting enemies to lovers dynamic.

Pitokai (Neferpitou x Kite/Kaito)

One of my biggest icks ever is Victim x Killer because like how would YOU feel if you were violently murdered for seemingly no reason and then find out that there are people out there who think you and your killer would be cute if you dated O.O

Yeah it’s like… really toxic. I don’t have the energy to go into all the details of it but Killer x Victim has no reason to be as popular as it is…

Wisky (Wing x Bisky)

Teacher x Student dynamics really ick me as well… in most but not all cases the teacher is somewhat of a parental figure and the student is very young, in most cases a minor!!! We don’t exactly know if Wing was a kid when Bisky taught him nen since she refers to most people younger then as kids but the idea that she was extremely influential in his earlier years and has that older adult figure role in his life makes the idea of shipping them just.. it makes my skin crawl tbh ^^|||

Also there’s a HUGE age difference with Bisky being 57 and Wing being in his early 20s.

Gingkite (Ging x Kite/Kaito)

Again w the teacher x student guys… the same reasons as with Wisky expect we know for a fact that Ging met and started training Kite when he was a teenager! Makes this extra icky.

Again with the age difference! Ging is in his 30s I think maybe 40s? And Kite is in his early 20s. Pretty big age gap!!!

Any incestous Zoldyck ships

The fact that I even have to state this… dude… c’mon…. Incest is NOT cool chat!!

Any ships between the siblings? DISGUSTING!!

Between the kids and the parents? GRODY!!

Between Zeno and his grandkids? OUTRAGEOUS!!

This isn’t even just limited to the Zoldyck family dude… Mito x Ging is a thing apparently…

Any Child x Adult

Again… why do I need to state this… shipping adults x children is WEIRD!!! And NOT OK!!!

Hisoka x Gon? GROSS!!

Killua x Illumi? DOUBLE GROSS!! INCEST IS ALSO NOT OK.

Killua x Machi? STILL GROSS!!!!

Please if you ship canon children with adults… please… just get off my page :^

Merupouf (Meruem x Shaiapouf)

Gonna be so fr w you guys… I used to ship this… i thought they were funny :’) I’VE RECOVERED DW!!! (/lh)

Uh yeah so the power dynamic is really erm!!! /neg I genuinely cannot go into detail about how toxic they are but I’ll try to summarize… Pouf has like a perfected version of Meruem in his head as the king but when Meruem starts to change for the better he rejects it and thinks he knows what’s best for the king and shit!!! Also Meruem treats his Royal guards like shit (at the beginning) their relationship gets only slightly better towards the end but it’s still abusive!!!

Also my friend pointed out that the Royal guards exist solely for Meruem. Like they are Meruem and Meruem only. Everything is for him and that adds like a super fucked up dynamic to this ship…

Also forgot to mention earlier, ANTCEST. All the chimera ants came from the same mom so shipping them is really weird even if they don’t all see eachother as siblings

On Astarion’s sexuality, again…

I’m sorry, I’m going to go on a bit of a long rant here but it seems like it still needs to be said since there are still comments roaming around claiming that “Astarion is 100% gay”, that “he’d be be gay if they did not make him ‘playersexual’ to appease the ‘cishet women who fetishize’ gay men”, that “it’s disgusting to see him with a female Tav”, that “people who romance him with female characters are [insert any kind of insult here]”.

No Astarion is not gay, he’s PANSEXUAL. HC whatever you want in you own game, HC that he’s fully gay if that’s the only way for you to enjoy the character, but stop claiming your HC as absolute canon and trying to control how other people play and interact with the character, especially if you’re going to be nasty about it, and even more so when people who worked on the game and the game itself show that your HC is not actual canon. The same applies for anyone who would claim he’s fully straight btw (haven’t see these takes myself, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist somewhere)

The romanceable companions are not playersexual.

They are all canonically pansexual, it was confirmed by people who worked on the game and it’s visible in game as they all have lines or behavior that indicates attraction to more than one gender / regardless of gender. And in Astarion’s case, it was also confirmed by both his writer who calls him “a man of all the appetites” or “medieval Deadpool”, and his actor, who has been on record more than once confirming it, he also romances him with a female character in his own playthrough.

A few examples of the top of my head :

Astarion : comments on Wyll’s horns being flattering on him, comments on the bloodlust look being very flattering on Lae’zel or calls her “spicy food” in a very suggestive way, calls Shadowheart “vintage port on two legs” or says she’s “enticing”. Has flirty banters with Gale, Shadowheart and Lae’zel. Will sleep with Lae’zel at the Tieffling/Goblin party if none of them is romanced

Gale : has a known ex-girlfriend, offers his blood to Astarion in a party banter and comments on Raphael, and is the most open to stay with a Tav who turned Illithid.

Halsin : talks about former lovers, both a maiden and a male sailor, and is clearly down for anything who can consent.

Karlach (i’ll focus a bit more on the male side here since she’s also often called just lesbian) : has an erotic fantasy where she’s with a man and a woman at the same time, has an erotic fantasy with Dammon, says she’d ride Astarion to the Feywild and back, several comments about Wyll being attractive with his horns, shows interest in Halsin too.

Lae’zel : Will sleep with Astarion at the Tieffling/Goblin party if they're not romanced, will try to bed Wyll or Gale if Astarion is unavailable, and will apparently go for Shadowheart if none of the guys are available. Makes some comments about Karlach and has flirty banters with Minthara.

Minthara : refers to a former female lover, flirts with the ladies and says she’d catch Astarion in her web if she was still living in the Underdark.

Shadowheart : makes thirsty comments about both Karlach and Halsin. And has flirty banters with pretty much all the companions.

Wyll : makes comments about both Astarion and Halsin being attractive, flirts with Lae’zel and Shadowheart.

Now on to the arguments usually said to prove he’s gay or has a heavy preference for men :

He’s too feminine / flamboyant to be attracted to women :

A man can be feminine and flamboyant and not be gay. Ever heard of Prince or David Bowie ? They were both pretty androgynous and flamboyant and one was straight, the other was bi. And not every gay man is effeminate or flamboyant.

Can we stop with these outdated stereotypes ?

All this really makes me wish we could see more feminine and flamboyant straight or bi/pan men and more super masculine gay men in series, movies or games, same goes for women, give me a masculine straight, bi/pan woman and super feminine lesbian every once in a while.

Just let people carry and express themselves in a way that makes them feel comfortable without assuming they have to be a certain sexuality.

Besides, the very theatrical / flamboyant side of him his mostly a mask he puts on, it tones down quite a lot whenever he's genuine with Tav.

He talks about "handsome virgin" and "prince-type".

Well in the context of the game these are very much gender neutral.

Handsome can be used for both men and women, and it is used in game for both, like Minthara calling herself handsome or Karlach calling a female Tav "handsome and talented" for instance.

As for the "prince-type" comment, nobility titles in game usually default to their masculine form, even for female characters like Duke (not Duchess) Stellmane who is a woman, Duke Wyll who can name a female Tav Duke (still not Duchess) or Gortash telling a female Durge that the two of them will rule as Kings (not King and Queen). In that instance Astarion is also talking about what we consider irl as the archetype of a fairy tale prince, just like when he calls Volo a "Damsel".

Not to mention in both cases, considering the tone he uses, the context of these lines and in the case of the "prince-type" comment, the other things he says in the very same conversation he's likely just being sarcastic (if not salty in the “prince-type” one) anyways.

He also uses words usually more associated with women like “pretty” or “dowry” regardless of the character’s gender.

He has slept with more men than women for the past 200 years…

We don't really know that since we know of, what, 5 of them (which would be 0.05% of the estimated number of people he’s slept with), but to be quite honest considering he was hunting in the middle of the night in taverns, brothels and in the streets, yeah i’d expect most of them to be men, he probably had a bigger pool to choose from with men in these kind of places, regardless of any kind of preference on his part and men may have been more likely to follow a stranger just to have sex.

But, in any case, he’s very clear he wasn’t doing any of it by choice and he didn’t enjoy it.

He compares himself to a prostitute and especially as Origin Astarion he can have an interesting chat with Nym and Sorn Orlith at Sharess’ Carress where he tells them “I was once in your position, in a way” and when Sorn asks him how it was, all of Astarion’s answers are negative 1/”I try not to think about it any longer”, 2/”Just what I had to do to get by.”, 3/”I was forced into it, but it sounds as if you weren’t” and last but not least 4/”Horrible. Unfathomably so.”. He can also tell Haarlep “I already lived an eternity devoted to pleasure and it was rather dull.”

He also says himself about these relationships and his conquests things like :

“The entire reason for my existence was to seduce anything with a pulse.”

“I spent two hundred years using my body to lure pretty things back for my Master. What I wanted, how I felt about what I was doing, it never mattered.”,

“I've gotten on my back ten thousand times or more, and forgotten half of them.”,

“Enjoyment ? That didn't come into it. I never had a choice. I have bedded thousands of people. Half of them I barely remember. Most of them didn't even grant me temporary bliss.”,

“Being close to someone, any kind of intimacy was something I performed to lure people back, for him”

“They’re my conquests. I pursued them, seduced them, then brought them back to Cazador.”

“They weren't lovers... not in the way that you mean. They wanted me more than I wanted them.”

… and he only talks about the men in his past :

Hm, he talks about exactly 2. The darling boy and Sebastian.

We don’t know much about the darling boy other than he was apparently pretty young and too nice and innocent for Astarion to force himself to bring him back to Cazador (we don’t even know if he actually slept with this one, only that he let him go, which led to Astarion’s worst punishment), whether that was because he somehow had feelings for someone he just met or felt too bad about ruining his life (especially if he was one of the very first, if not the very first person he ever had to bring back to Cazador), is up to interpretation.

As for Sebastian, people really like to call him Astarion’s ex-lover/boyfriend, and claim he had some deep feelings for him, but he was not a lover, only a victim. Astarion remembers him because he was one of the first and one of the few who didn’t abuse him and he feels guilty for ruining this nice man’s life, but even so, when meeting him as Origin Astarion, he needs to succeed a DC 18 check to even remember his name or pass a DC 10 check to dig it from Sebastian’s head, all the other options are some variation of “I can’t remember”. And then, the only dialogue option implying he was even attracted to Sebastian is a DC 20 [DECEPTION] check.

So, if these relationships are supposed to show a huge preference for men, what he himself says would do a pretty good job at showing the opposite to be quite honest…

He’s bad at flirting with women despite being a super skilled seducer :

He’s not really a skilled seducer actually, he’s also bad at flirting with men. Gale will outright reject him, and Tav, regardless of their gender can also call him out on his cheesy pick-up lines. He never really needed to be good at it actually considering he was picking up his victims in taverns and brothels and they were more than likely drunk and/or very horny, so he only really needed his good looks. His 10 Charisma doesn’t come out of nowhere.

There’s a party banter where he’ll reject Lae’zel:

This one only triggers if you are romancing him, he’ll also reject Gale’s offer for his blood, which can be taken as Gale flirting with Astarion (both because his blood is nasty, but also because he’s in a relationship with Tav), he’ll also decline Halsin’s offer for a threesome. It appears Astarion just doesn’t want to be involved with anyone else if he’s with Tav. Lae'zel will also reject him if she's romanced btw.

If neither Astarion, nor Lae’zel is romanced though, they’ll actually hook up, which proves that unlike what some claim, he can in fact tell her no when he’s not interested, and he’ll do the same with Tav if he doesn’t like them enough. Considering he also admits to a romanced Tav that he was attracted to them and that he has quite a number of flirty banters with Lae’zel, yes he sleeps with her for protection, but like it’s the case for Tav, there still seems to be some level of attraction here.

Now let’s see what happens during the events of the game.

He expresses in various dialogues that he finds both the male and female companions attractive, it’s possible he talks slightly more about the men, but his actions seem to lean slightly more towards the ladies actually.

He consistently flirts with Shadoheart and Lae’zel the most out of all the companions through all 3 acts, but he also invites Karlach on a date or Jaheira to a threesome (in that last case, he’s probably being sarcastic as well though).

He can sleep with Lae’zel at the Tieffling/Goblin party if the player doesn’t sleep with any of them. She’s the only character outside of the player’s he will actually sleep with during the events of the game.

He can also invite Alfira to his tent, and if not romanced he’ll flirt with the girl in the sewers in Baldur's Gate.

If he catches the player cheating on him with Mizora, UA will admit that he would’ve been interested in sleeping with her too before, and AA will admit that he’d be interested if she offered, complain that he wasn’t invited to join and ask to be invited if there’s a next time

So he is clearly written and acted as pansexual, he shows attraction towards both men and women and it’s not even clear whether or not he actually has any preference.

In the end he falls for Tav/Durge no matter what’s in their pants because they’re the first person in 200 years who shows him genuine care and kindness, who isn’t with him only for his body but likes him for who he is and with whom he can form a real loving relationship.

Usopp holding her hand when she's coming out to the crew,, Sanji getting so overwhelmed by the support she breaks down and starts crying and Usopp hugs her tightly,, And Sanji just- She starts laughing out of nowhere. Relieved. She has never felt this free. And everyone is a bit shocked at first but then Luffy is the one to fill the room with laughter and he goes to hug her too, and it turns into a huge group hug that makes Sanji cry and laugh even more.

Usopp is good with makeup because even though she doesn't wear much, she's always been a good artist and it's just a natural thing for her, right? So Sanji asks her to do her makeup most of the time. You know that picture? With the two girls, one on top of the other and the one on top doing the other girl's makeup? Well, that, but make it fem Sanuso.

They're not established yet, okay? They're pining. Pining hard. Because I love Sanuso being head over heels for each other. And lesbians are known for being fucking stupid and awful at flirting (I don't count I am fucking great at flirting) (I just lied on the internet). And they're best friends. The bestest of girl friends. And I think their first kiss should be when Usopp is feeling insecure because of her dysphoria (<- This is how it's written, by the way! <3) and Sanji hugs her and kisses her tears away... In a friendly way, of course. But then she can't stop herself from praising and worshipping Usopp and telling her everything she feels... And they end up kissing for real. And they laugh. And it's so so sweet... Ugh, I love them. They make me sick.

They share clothes too, by the way. And seeing Sanji wear Usopp's large t-shirts she uses to work (stained with paint and oil and smelling just like Usopp) while she cooks makes Usopp's heart go wild. Same thing happens to Sanji when she sees her girlfriend wearing her dress shirts.

Sanji constantly having gender and dysphoria crises because of the Vinsmokes and Usopp always being there to whisper sweet nothings to her and hold her tight until everything passes. Usopp reminding her that she's not like them. That she's her own person. That's she's the most empathetic, genuine, and wonderful girl she has ever met. That she's beautiful just the way she is.

Sanji lets her hair grow longer because of her mom and Usopp loves braiding it and playing with it and brushing it and taking care of it every damn relaxing moment they have together. She says it reminds her of gold and Sanji always blushes at that, but Usopp is being 100% serious when she says Sanji is her most precious treasure.

Usopp being all anxious when she meets Yasopp again, and we know Sanji has a uhhh complicated relationship with that man because she doesn't know how to feel about him abandoning Usopp and she doesn't want her girlfriend to get hurt again. So she's there all the time, holding Usopp's hand and introducing herself as her girlfriend (in a very protective way btw). But everything goes fine and Yasopp accepts them both and it's just,,, So sweet.

She's based off a c.ai persona, like the other two (Sven and Danny), and she's a pilot.

this is the bio I made for her, with a fresh picrew bc I didn't like the old one I had. Picrew was by Makowka btw.

So basically she's this kickass lady that flies f-16s and has lesbian sex with hot women on board the ship. She's the twin sister of Danny, but only in the sense of being born at the same time. They're nothing alike. She's harder with trust than Danny, and goes Feral™ when something happens to her baby brother Seamus. She's got some anger and abandonment issues, and has a hard time dealing with loss. Yes, that includes her plane. She once crashed it, and begged the government if she could keep it because "well, it's not gonna fly anymore anyways". So anyway, she has an f-16 in the backyard on shore.

She and the gang of course live on an aircraft carrier, but when on shore leave she lives in NYC. Idk where though, probably close to the harbour or an airport.

YIPEEEEEEEE here we go will be long so im hiding it under a readmore again. also since you said mainline im not including toshiro or eri but you Know...... im abnorma, abt them

i have NOT played p1 and i've just barely started p2is (though ive watched snippets of someone elses's playthrough) but i will say. based on my limited knowledge i rly like hidehiko, ayase, naoya, tatsuya, jun, eikichi, yukino, maya, and lisa

p3 and p4 are difficult bc theyre the ones im the most autistic abt and the main entire casts as a whole are comforts for me. but anyways. going to talk about p3 first Yes I Will Include SLs too. im abnormal. top 3 main insaners for p3 though are akihiko, yukari, and junpei. for me

makoto/minato sooo so gender envy. im obsessed with his design a lot. his character i do also like hes a little goofy and so mecore but mainly his design is something i love a lot

same with kotone. also love how she has a sort of distinct personality that you can tell with slight dialogue changes that her counterpart doesnt say. shes rly real. love reload but i miss her...

as stated yukari's one of my favs. she didnt Use to be (i did like her but Not as much) but she's slowly become one and man. i love that silly girl. her haters will not survive the winter actually. it does piss me off though because like. yeah shes not perfect no character rly is but she's a traumatized mentally ill teenage girl with a dead dad and a neglectful mom cut her some slack maybe? god forbid women do anything. idk. but im obsessed with her. her character is actually so interesting to me and not a lot of people talk about it? like her whole fear of death causing issues with summoning her persona like at the beginnning, her dad being involved with the kirijo groups shit, how she puts on a cheerful front but is actually deeply really lonely :(, her kinda playful insult friendship with junpei (deep down they do care abt eachother. i wish that was explored more. i found a rly good fic abt it once.) and etc etc. idrk what to say but shes sooo. i also love how she initially HATES mitsuru and is super jealous of her and then. Well. gay tension is real. anyways shes a transfem lesbian to me btw. yukamitsu ftw

junpei's also become one of my favs. somehow. in a similar vein to yukari in that he wasn't initially my main fav character but i think his character's also pretty interesting and has. a lot of unexplored potential. he's very silly and i love him for that a lot but something i don't see many people talk about is like. his Issues. like yeah hes silly but he's also got some fucked up self-worth issues!!! remember the scene on 5/9 where he kinda gets really upset and goes off on his own and stuff. for example. like i think him being imperfect and having these moments where he's NOT cheerful and goofy all the time and actually deeply really jealous of you because he feels that fighting's all he's good for and he's not worth much else is what makes him interesting. do you get it. like him being tbe silly funny guy isn't all he is as a person yk!!!!! also as far as characterization I point a lot to the scene where yukari's more than willing to go confront the people in the alley while junpei's worried, or scene near the end of the game where yukari teases junpei and he snaps at her, confessing that while he doesn't show it he really is terrified. they all are, at that point. yk what I mean? also people don't acknowledge his trauma with his father enough (maybe because it's only really discussed at all in femc's route... his SL is so good but not enough ppl see it... BUR YEAH did not think I'd go off on a tangent about junpei fucking iori tonight but he's real. hashtag brokeback tartarus. also he's an adhder to me. (oh yeah also want to point out this line in his SL where he says "maybe I have anxiety or something". yeah. that's a line!)

akihiko fucking sanada. ohhhh man. this guy. where do i even START. he's so so crazy like what if your local high school upperclassman boxing champion guy was also really gay for his dying childhood friend and autistic as hell and also traumatized. and he's doing boxing in the first place to overcompensate because the death of his sister made him fear losing anyone else again snd he needs to feel like he has power. he needs control. yk? like this guy made me insane for like several months straight in 2023 and he still makes me ill. to this day. as you can probably tell by my distaste for people seeing yukari and junpei at face value you can probably gather that I hate the protein jokes and i Do. he said it like. Once in p3. it never rly was funny????? and what they did in spinoffs esp p4a to just make him look like a gym rat and nothing more makes me upset bc of the REASON he's obsessed with fighting. he's not just a dumb jock (he also isn't dumb lol he canonically scores very high on his exams) he's overworking himself because feelings of self doubt from trauma have caused him to feel the need to overcompensate so he never loses anyone again. you know? it would've been interesting to see him relapse in p4a if theyd actually done it well. like he doesnt rly give himself time or room to grieve in game (theres rhat onw scene on 10/5 and then he barely talks about it again. man i wish it was developed more...) so realizing that grieving isnt a linear process that he can just repress for a long time and even years after it can still hurt would go INSANE. but no they just turned him into i love protein joke number 20. okay!!! (im very angry) thinking about when my non persona friend after hearing me explain some of the plot described p3 as like a greek tragedy because like. damn. he and shinji were doomed from the start with personas like polydeuces and castor huh. anyways. yeah. continuing writing now that i've watched october 4th in reload AND akihiko's breakdown as a reuslt and i wanna scream and cry and throw up that will be for another post but ooh man it mad eme cry like 3 times. and I KNOEW WHAT HAPPENS. Captain Hammer: "The Hammer is my strap-on." Big muscly woman but she's managed to build a preppy wholesome heterosexual image of herself that fits what everyone wants to see. She's selfish and conniving and self-serving and a fuckboy lesbian and she has become all of those things because she felt she had to. She's also just kind of a bitch tbfh. Penny is an out lesbian and Captain Hammer, seeing that many celebrities are coming out, decides to make a whole Event(tm) of coming out and dating Penny and capitalizing on selling branded Captain Hammer Pride T-Shirts. "So I thank my girlfriend Penny. Yea, we totally had sex." It's honesty, it's self-acceptance even, but it's also a PR stunt. Because at this point, anything Captain Hammer does is a PR stunt. And Penny is just a self-actualization tool and stunt prop for her. And even so, Hammer is anxious about being openly dating a woman and makes sure that everyone knows that "quiet, mousey" feminine Penny is "Not my usual, but nice."

Dr. Horrible: "There's no happy ending, so they say. Not for me anyway" Billie has never actually been able to hide her queerness. Has always been cast as a villain. The doomed, corrupting Lesbian. And, much like her extant canon hetero-male counterpart, we watch as she spirals downward and becomes a femcel. Everything is already there. The camp. The "villain"/"hero" labels as more a marker of outsider status/popularity than actual moral value. The history of queer coded villainy in exactly the kind of media that this story is riffing on. The feeling that one's story is doomed to tragedy bc that's the version of the story you've seen again and again and again. And yeah, it does make you bitter.

Penny: "I cannot believe my eyes. Is the world finally growing wise?" An actually relatively well adjusted normal person type of Lesbian. We know Penny has been repeatedly rejected and denied job opportunities, and it would make sense for this to be because of her being openly lesbian. Maybe Penny herself was kicked out into the street as a girl and that's what got her started working to provide homeless shelters. Unlike Hammer or Billie, Penny has not allowed this to embitter or define her. She continues fighting to make the world better and came out long ago because she believes that the more people come out, the safer it will be for everyone else. And yeah, there's a cute gay woman who goes to the same Laundromat as her and gets fro yo and they flirt quietly and there's a sense of camaraderie in being two queer women even once Penny starts dating someone else. And that someone else! Imagine finding out that your celebrity crush is gay and interested in you specifically. And then!!! There's a huge pride event and everyone from your friends to the FUCKING MAYOR OF THE CITY is Congratulating you on this part of yourself that has been repeatedly rejected by society. And you're finally emphatically able to open a homeless shelter for queer people like you who were given no other place to go. Only to then realize that even your new gf is treating you as a cardboard cutout for photo ops and she has no real sense of queer community. Brutal.

Penny: She's really pretty and I thought she was kind of cheesy at first

Billie [under her breath]: trust your instincts

Penny: But she turned out to be totally sweet. Sometimes people are layered like that. There's something totally different underneath than what's on the surface.

Billie: And sometimes there's a third, even deeper layer, and that one is the same as the surface one...Like with pie :)

Moist: "At my most badass I make people want to take a shower." Moist is a "gross sweaty dyke" with a weirdly sexual name and lives happily/vaguely sleezily ever after with the towelettes (if youve seen the comics you know what I'm talking about.)

God I could go on and on about this forever. If you know me well, you know that around this time last year I was in a relationship with a bisexual femme who had just THE most internalized homophobia.

I'm butch. I've always been butch- this goes all the way back to middle school. And I have NEVER felt more shamed for it in my life than by my ex girlfriend.

She would go on about how women are oppressed and how she was looked down upon for being feminine, meanwhile she had an hours long makeup routine to cover up every single insecurity she had about her face and make snide comments about my refusal to do the same. She'd talk me into letting her dress me up like her personal barbie doll, and say that she was showing me how to be a "real woman" - as if being butch somehow made me less of a woman before.

She bragged to her sister, who is still one of my best friends, about how she was feminizing me, and how she could make me act like an actual girl. She tried to teach me the "rules" of being a woman, and firmly believed that performing femininity was the way to be a good and superior woman. She fit well into cishet groups- she knew the rules. She complained about not feeling like others saw her as queer, and then met a woman who expressed queerness in any way but the most conventional and tried to make me fit into the convention. It was never that femininity was cool as a form of self expression- no, she lauded femininity because it GOT HER WHAT SHE WANTED.

And, here's the thing. In the times when I let her overwrite my own sense of self with her own, people DID treat me better. Men talked to me causally instead of ignoring my very existence. Women would return compliments without looking at me like I was going to do something predatory to them.

Femininity as a woman is something that's enforced not even just by men, but actually majorly by OTHER WOMEN. It's self policing at its finest, and YES, as a woman you DO gain some advantages that butch women don't have by performing femininity. And btw- don't you guys think it's odd that most of the negative lesbian stereotypes are about butch women? Even other queer women don't fucking like us. It's like existing in gender purgatory all of the time- not men, but since we don't perform femininity, we're "bad" women. Don't you fucking dare come at me and tell me that women are oppressed for being feminine when in reality we are all oppressed simply for being women, and those of us who don't want to perform femininity pay a hefty price.

Some of you straight up hate masculine women and gnc women and I wish you'd just say that with your full chest instead of pretending women are oppressed for being feminine when in reality feminine behavior is expected and women are policed by men and each other if they don't present femininely enough. Femininity is looked down upon esp in men but that's bc it's associated and tied to women. Not bc women are oppressed for being feminine

Well, I think I am going to take out information down on my gender identity and sexuality as I am quietly questioning (and panicking) over both right now. I will leave my pronouns up for sure still but until I can get a solid feel for both, I feel like it is wrong for me to fully identify a certain way anymore and will take that information down to prevent possible issues. Both seemed like for sure fields tbh for years but I think as I have healed from a ton of trauma, I actually think stuff is probably changing (which is good? maybe?? idk I am scared). Tbh any advice would be appreciated on both matters. I'll explain further on both topics under the cut for anyone curious. <3

More details under the cut:

So, as quick of a TLDR as I can make this out to be, let me explain both: I am born AFAB (please please please for the love of the gods I do not want radfems interaction please and thanks) and for years as a kid especially I felt comfortable taking on "princely" roles when it came to play pretend with girls. I always felt happy being their knight in shining armor (I know it's cringe bear with me) and their prince but I liked mainly feeling closer to a girl and presenting myself in a feminine way. Forgive me btw, I am fairly ignorant on proper terminology because I grew up in a place where getting support for matters like this was next to impossible. I noticed more often than not, I always seemed drawn to girls and fem presenting people IRL. Fictional men were nice, but mainly my focus seemed to be fem-presenting people (I hope I got the term right). I wondered if I possibly was trans too, as a lot of characters I did relate to a lot were characters like Link from Legend of Zelda or now even Stolas from Helluva Boss for example and it was a cycle of, "Do I like this person or want to be them or both?" until I thought, "Oh! I must be genderfluid because using He/They/She pronouns feels right!". That was back around 2019 or so, and tbh I just feel like an imposter now because I noticed my gender didn't feel as "fluid" as others had it. I noticed I gravitated more toward They/She and thought, "Oh wait am I cis after all???" but that didn't feel right either as I notice I don't entirely like using She/Her pronouns either. Once again, I feel almost stuck wondering if maybe I am straight up non-binary or not or if the reason I feel feminine in any capacity is because of my system (I have DID for context) who mostly are feminine in some way. Same thing goes for the sexuality side of things. Especially when I was younger, the first person I truly felt like I had a real crush on was a girl who was actually my bully in middle school (I know I was a fool) who was essentially the Hans to my Anna (I am so sorry but literally I have no other clue how to compare it because the comparison is quite spot on in my eyes). She was someone I was happy to let myself get kicked around for and wait on her hand and foot. I was happy to be a walking carpet for her and sacrifice anything just for an ounce of her love and in truth? I never actually had those kinds of feelings for any masculine kind of individuals.

Fictional men? Oh absolutely fine! Fictional WOMEN??? Even Better (Felicia Hardy you will ALWAYS have my heart tbh). Like, as awful as this may seem, the men I have dated I feel like I only dated them out of pity because they liked me and I felt bad and did not want to say no to them. This tbh led to a lot of trauma for me, yet I still somehow gravitated back toward cis men mostly that I never really felt a genuine connection with. I dated two (At the time) women in my life and for some reason even though I dealt with a ton of bs from them, I felt more inclined to date a woman again versus a man.

Back in middle to high school, I was stuck wondering if I was bisexual or lesbian, and poor poor exes of mine I literally felt so bad I could not figure it out and just assumed I was bi. Though another kicker came in: I really am not that interested in sex. I have had trauma with it yes, and tbh as awful as this may seem, I assumed it was from trauma. Yet I healed, and grew, and that didn't seem to be the case as time went on. I had experimented (tbh I wanted Taco Bell more than I wanted that person soooo oops...) and I figured, "Oh! This means I am Asexual!" Yet I still feel more romantic feelings toward fem people mostly. I stupidly thought being bisexual in highschool was transphobic (I learned better since them) and went with the identity of Pansexual, then Panromantic Asexual when I learned that being Panromantic existed, but now I once again am at a crossroads here too. I notice I have been really feeling my heart flutter seeing pretty feminine people more, and even wondered if I was even demisexual versus straight up asexual. I have done a lot of healing and I wondered if I too was sucked into the wormhole that is comphet but I just don't know. I don't really know who to talk to about it all and I can't help but go, "Oh I can't be lesbian because I am not a cis female" but learned you CAN be nonbinary and lesbian. Then I go, "but wait I can't be a lesbian if I like fictional men right??" but sure enough, I see lesbians who adore fictional men. I almost wonder if Bisexual was correct, but yet it just does not feel 100% right.

I even tried to go on the app Boo to find friends mostly, but I did mention I would be happy to try and date later down the road as I had a lot of healing to do. I met some guys that I figured could be cool friends, but I noticed that the only person I was even remotely interested in that liked me too was a guy in France who dressed in a feminine way and presented himself in a feminine manner. Like, it was to the point that I felt supremely fluttery in my chest and felt a sense of giddiness. It isn't entirely the same as the feelings I had for a friend of mine who is a girl. I almost feel sad thinking on it because I know she wouldn't probably like me back as she has so much going on and she has had friends confess to her and made her uncomfortable and I'd never want to do anything to hurt her, but man I think about her and my heart just soars. If you ever hear the song Heaven's Light from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, this is exactly how I feel about her. She makes me feel like I have a Morticia Addams of my own and thinking about how much my heart almost aches for her is hard to really encapsulate in words. I promise this is not some sappy love confession or anything, I want to respect her and she still lights up my life even though we are only friends. I just do not get the same kinds of feelings about a masculine individual unless fictional. I wasn't sure if it is me or the system or anything like that, but any advice would be great tbh minus the, "Just be patient with yourself! This takes time!" thing. No offense, but I am 28 years old and tbh as a system this I think is different than the average, "be patient with yourself thing". Yet the more I write, the more I wonder if I am answering my own questions too tbh. Sorry for the lengthy post!

I don’t really have a dog in the lesbian Yang vs. bi Yang fight. But I will say that the people who act like it would be some kind of unthinkable OOC betrayal for Yang (or Weiss, or Winter, or any other character) to be into men need to realize that being bi doesn’t mean you like women any less.

I see people making these huge justifications for how Weiss liking Neptune in V1 was “just comphet because he’s a nonthreatening guy” and she’s really a huge lesbian, and I just wanna be like “Do you think being attracted to men is making her character worse?” Same goes for Yang “not minding” boys.

You don’t have to answer this if it’s too much discourse. I just felt like I needed to type it out

No, no, this is a valid point. I think a LOT of headcanons/fanons is just projecting onto the characters you like and I think a lot of specifically lesbians project onto yang so that's how we ended up with fanon!yang being a lesbian. Same deal with Weiss being a repressed comphet lesbian btw

One of my friends in my small red town high school was literally the second one. She was so “supportive” until I talked about medically transitioning, and she basically said what person #2 said, and that broke me. Later I found out she was a Trump supporter and had never told me😭

Same goes for a girl I had a crush on that pretended to be okay with my transness but was secretly a pro-life antisemitic Trump supporter and I didn’t find out until years later when one of my actual friends told me. Also broke me. You pretending to be an ally ain’t very girlboss of you.

I also had a white cishet man that was like “just because we disagree on politics doesn’t mean we can’t be friends 🤪🥺” like no, sir, I can’t be friends because you disagree with my very existence and vote for people that are oppressing me and committing genocide against my community.

Similarly, I had a dick in high school trying to “politely” cisplain to me why it’s okay for trans people to be banned from the military because we are “mentally ill and the military could be dangerous for us 🥹” like yeah no shit, welcome to the military industrial complex that YOU signed up for too, but I can’t. Also being trans isn’t a mental illness. It’s people like that that vex me the most.

Also, shoutout to the girl who broke my heart by completely ghosting me and never talking to me again after she found out I gave her an anonymous rose for Valentine’s Day. She lived in an even smaller red rural city so uh. Kaylee if you’re out there, I was in love with you and you didn’t even properly reject me, just. Stopped hanging out with me and that hurt. So much. I deserved an explanation at the very least. I would have understood if you didn’t wanna date me.

You know who were some of the best allies at that same place though? The girl that tried her hardest to use my pronouns, even though she once called me “biologically a girl” when talking about FAFSA.

It was my super progressive dual credit English teacher, who was a DOCTOR btw, who would sometimes call me “Miss *chosen name*” and then apologize for her mistake.

One of my closest friends, who to this day sometimes accidentally calls me ma’am, and corrects herself, and also said I listen to “lesbian music” one time (tbh she wasn’t 100% wrong).

My economics teacher who would mess up my pronouns over and over again, but kept trying anyways, showed up to my top 10% honors dinner and took pictures with me in a suit and tie, and defended my transness when my parents were being transphobic towards me.

My school nurse and principal, who offered for me to use the women’s nurse bathrooms because that was the only option available for me. And my principal also defended me and was quite “aggressive” according to my mom cause she refused to let my parents be transphobic towards me.

My Latina Spanish teachers, who did their best even though our language as Latines (I’m Mexican btw) is extremely gendered and were always so sweet to me. I don’t like being called “mija,” but it’s the affection that was there that matters.

It was my classmate who called me a queen when I offered her muffins but then was like “oops my bad, sorry king,” who restored my faith in Gen Z.

The white lady that took my senior picture, who offered me the fem outfit and when I told her I wanted to wear a suit she went “I can respect that, that’s valid” and gave me what I wanted to wear.

My two cis Black gay male friends, who would say stuff to me like “no ma’aaaaam” but later eventually caught on and then they were like “no sirrrrr…”

My biology Muslim teacher whose name I don’t remember (he wasn’t teaching for too long because he kept getting made fun of for his SWANA accent unfortunately, and that got to him) who would try his best to call me by my name even though he would use the wrong pronouns.

And my physics teacher, who let two of my classmates and I start my school’s first LGBTQIA+ club when no other teacher would (not even the only openly gay teacher) and put up with our weekly meetings and never outed anyone. He would say funky things like “do any of you girls think you might be homosexuals?” (I wasn’t out as trans then) He would also talk about how he thought it was cool that a type of fungi has thousands of sexes and would just. Vibe with us the way a sweet millennial ally uncle would. I think later he ran over a deer and a cop cause I think he was on drugs since he didn’t look too hot the last day I saw him in class, but anyways shoutout to him. I did not learn a single thing about physics in his class but I did learn how to catch crickets to feed a lizard.

People aren’t perfect, but I would much rather educate person #1 than person #2. And I say this as a queer transmasc nonbinary person that has been out for years.

"The trannies should be able to piss in whatever toilet they want and change their bodies however they want. Why is it my business if some chick has a dick or a guy has a pie? I'm not a trannie or a fag so I don't care, just give 'em the medicine they need."

"This is an LGBT safe space. Of COURSE I fully support individuals who identify as transgender and their right to self-determination! I just think that transitioning is a very serious choice and should be heavily regulated. And there could be a lot of harm in exposing cis children to such topics, so we should be really careful about when it is appropriate to mention trans issues or have too much trans visibility."

One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

So, my opinion about Rhaenys (OG Rhaenys). Well, in a way I would say I started off with her in a completely different way than I did Visenya, this in the sense that Rhaenys was not a character I liked right away. Rhaenys was someone I learned to like and appreciate, and maybe in a way, it took me growing up and maturing a little to appreciate how cool she actually was.

Let's begin from the start of me finding out about her and this was almost 10 years ago.

As I have previously established I am one petty and shallow b:tch who has the ability to like or not care about a character solely based on their name, and on this account Rhaenys did not amuse me.

I don’t like the name Rhaenys (or Rhaena btw). I just don’t like how it sounds. And since Visenya is one of my favourite asoiaf names, to me it made the name Rhaenys sound all the worse. Then reading about her on the wiki (at the time the world of ice and fire hadn’t come out yet) I was like “omg who cares?!!!!”. It just seemed to me she did nothing and was just there to be the favourite and be prettier than Visenya 🙄 and create a female on female rivalry, which I usually can’t stand like oh look there, two women fighting over a man 🙄🙄 how original!

I make no secret of the fact that I am not a fan of polygamy, especially the traditional form of polygamy of one man two (or more) women. This included the more - let me just laugh for a moment here - “progressive” (lol) style of the women sometimes playing at being lesbians with each other for the benefit of the resident assh0le who married them and convinces them this is all very empowering. Like how about you suck on a d:ck imaginary dude? And if you are so progressive, please extend the same curtesy to your wives of f_cking someone else that not you. You’re welcome bestie :)

So yeah not a fave of the “role” George has Rhaenys play, and things didn’t improve for me when I read “The World of Ice and Fire”. Again she was in a way just there to be the “prettier” more feminine sister Aegon liked more. Again, how original.

By contrast Visenya was a lot cooler like she had Dark Sister, she rode Vhagar, she was a traditional warrior in her own right... I did feel very sorry for Rhaenys though since she had a terrible death, and I did like the scene between her and the Princess of Dorne as well. Like the tension in that room!

Fast forward a couple more years to 2018 when I read “Fire and Blood” and we were given a lot more details on the Conquest, and I did like a lot of what I read about Rhaenys. While at first glance she is presented as this “shallow” person with not a lot to add who only cares about dancing and music and frolicking around, you do start to see that there is more to her than that.

She wants to help others. She has an interest in women. She doesn’t want Aegon to conquer something for the sake of it, she believes that they can make Westeros better, and this is what she tries to do. Rhaenys is also quite clever, shrewd as well, and we do see this in how she goes about making people bow down to the Targaryens, and she is a lot more subtle about it than Visenya.

I feel Rhaenys embodied the whole “you catch more flies with honey” thing.

Visenya, in contrast, is all strength and fear, there is no room for softness. Rhaenys is not like that, though she is not the complete opposite. In a way, Rhaenys reminds me of Dany. She knows there are times when you have to be ruthless and rain down fire and blood on your enemies, but like Dany, Rhaenys knew that that wasn’t what life and ruling was all about.

She knew that you need to be loved as well, and that you can be soft at times and you won’t be a less effective ruler for it.

In a way, I started to realize she was more complex than her siblings, and though Visenya was meant to be the “mysterious” one of the two, and Aegon even more mysterious than his sisters, I felt that of the three the one we knew less well was indeed Rhaenys.

Knowing what someone likes to do (like dancing and flying) doesn’t tell the entire story. Yes we know this about Rhaenys, but what more did we know? We are never told how she feels about Aegon. We are never told what she thought of having to share him, of being the clear favourite. We see she cares about the smallfolk because we are shown, but this is not expanded upon. We are also shown she had to be a great mother and have a very tight bond with Aenys from his reaction to her demise, but we get very little of her actual thoughts on him, and on motherhood.

I think Rhaenys, unlike a lot of characters, suffers from a bit too much show and not enough tell, and what we are told is just there for the most part to make her look like a shallow and slightly slutty woman. Which is done with other female characters so are we really that surprised?

So, I really grew to like her and to be interested in her. I also like that what is shown in Rhaenys is quite different from what is told about her. In a way she and Rhaenyra have this in common (especially on Mushroom’s version of her) where sometimes what is said about them doesn’t match the behaviour that we see. And I really do like this.

Another thing I was pleasantly surprised with in “Fire and Blood” was that where the two sisters are concerned, there are no cat fights. Like I said in a previous ask, they seem to know who is who and one doesn’t want to be the other. I don’t see jealous from them or competition over Aegon. And again, although George once said in an interview that they did compete with each other for Aegon’s attention (#feminism #girlpower), we don’t see it anywhere. So, given that the golden rule of writing is “show don’t tell” I will stick to what you showed George :3 You’re welcome bestie!

Nowadays, if you were to ask me what sister I like more, or which of the two do I think was a better person, the answer would be Rhaenys.

Her qualities, the ones who really matter, and what makes her so compelling and complex aren’t evident (unlike what happens with Visenya and Aegon). In a way she’s not “easy to like” because you have to push the image they try to sell you of her aside and dig a little deeper.

Rhaenys is not as cool as Visenya or Aegon, not as powerful, nor as strong. She’s the “weakest link” only she isn’t. She’s a warrior in her own right, and a mother, and she is feminine, and she threatens, and she laughs and likes jokes, and she loves, and she gave us House Targaryen as we know and love it! And we cheer her for it!

So long live Queen Rhaenys, the heart of the conqueror trio and the Mother of House Targaryen! And I just KNOW that the Targaryens’ musical talent came from her, and y’all can fight me on this!

this is so random but i just found your blog and i needed someone who wasn’t a gaylor/kaylor to bounce of off (because i am one, but hesitantly) what do you think about kaylor maybe being like a really intense friendship? that maybe blurred the lines between romantic/sexual/platonic? because idk i feel like a lot of “evidence” that gaylors/kaylors post makes me kind of roll my eyes, but i feel like a lot of it also makes sense. i feel like a lot of wlw figure out they’re gay or explore their sexuality for the first time through some intense “platonic” relationships that kind of blur the lines between friendship and something more. but i don’t think the timeline adds up for a full blown relationship, considering karlie/josh and taylor/joe. but also celebrities date sooo differently then us “normal” people, so i feel like maybe when both relationships weren’t as serious or strictly monogamous (obviously just speculation that they weren’t monogamous, but ik sometimes ppl are on/off depending on distance and work schedules and filming and tours) and that maybe something could’ve happened there. not a full blown secret relationship and engagement (those theories… scare me) but just… something? i also don’t really believe in any of the other theorized relationships besides swiftgron (and some of the one-off can-be-read-as-gay things taylor has done, or that have been said about her) (like liking lesbian p0/rn, wearing a bi pride bracelet, saying gay pride makes me, me, people that know her calling her king, the fact that she actively consumes so much wlw media, etc) so like. speculative gaylor that has fun with the theories but also wouldn’t be surprised if i was just projecting lmao. sorry this is literally a wall of text.

TL;DR: i think kaylor or gaylor is just a rorschach test at this point. you'll see what you want to see. personally, i think they had a very close friendship, and they were significant figures in each other's life--at the same level of family or romantic partner, and they had a very painful (perhaps prolonged) friend breakup that hurt taylor really deeply.

independently of karlie, i think taylor might have questioned or come to new realizations about her sexuality, because... she's a normal human and goes through periods of change and self-realization just like we all do.

but i don't think the speculation you listed is compelling, with context. like, being called king is very common for high-powered women. florence welch has a whole song about it! wearing all the bracelets fans gave her, including a bi pride one, was a very beautiful and kind gesture! she was talking about mv concepts! idk idk sometimes it feels like gaylors think that if taylor is straight she should act like a bigot (the bracelet is the perfect example of that imo) lmao

so could she be bi? sure!! i don't need to prove it though, you know? i don't think i could even if i wanted to.

Why do I ship SNS?

It is a known fact that when people experience a good media, they like to discuss various things they liked, hated, interpret what the creator trying to say and get something from what they have consumed. Eventually people end up in a shipping war if there are multiple possibilities.

I started watching Naruto on a whim, hoping to see some ninjas in action with some revenge as a background (after all when you have power, there will always be a revenge). Am a sucker for revenge, btw. I am a person who hates romance in media. Because, every movie, book, novel, series has this same recycled romance plastered into every story even though the story don’t need at all. So, I am very tired of it. Every media portrays romance as something inevitable, necessary and something we can’t live without. That’s wrong.

Usually, romance goes like this... Person A sees Person B... they hate each other and add some possessiveness, jealousy... they magically gets attracted through some shared experiences eventually... they kiss and make babies. There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s just very tiring as I’ve seen million forms of this same repeated trope. I always cringe and yell “Can you give us something different? Grrr.....”.

And also, my motto is that love can happen with any person. It can’t be restrained into certain boundaries. So, I don’t like to put some relationship under an umbrella called Gay, Lesbian, Straight or whatever. Of course, illicit relationships and incest are not normal and am not okay with it.

With all that being said...

My experience after watching the Shippuden series until episode 478 was “Wait, do they love each other?”. I know am very late to realize this, but I have never even viewed them with any romantic lens throughout.

On my first watch, I was always under the impression that “They are friends”... But there are certain moments I felt “Wait, why are they doing like this which could’ve been handled in a different way!!” I will get to this later in this post. But those moments were overlooked by me because of my curiosity of “What happens next ??”.

And on my rewatch, it only confirmed my view.

The other popular ships like SS and NH put forth many points to invalidate what SNS represents. The most common being “They are reincarnated brothers” or “They are best friends”. Am just going to debunk them from my point of view.

Naruto and Sasuke are like brothers.....

Nope.

The best brotherhood title, in this series, should officially go to Itachi and Sasuke.

You can argue as much as you want that Itachi mindfucked Sasuke and killed his parents....yaada yaada....

It is repeatedly shown why Itachi put a curtain on his own clan. The reason is, Uchiha clan decided to forcefully take over the village. No matter how much innocent you are, you cannot take over something with force. Dot. I will write about this in a separate post.

In short, Sasuke realised how his clan members were wrong after hearing the story from the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju. That’s why he openly proclaimed “I am going to protect Konoha and become Hokage”.

Back to the topic, Itachi and Sasuke are blood brothers. If I ship them both, then what you claim is very valid.

The above gif says, “Sasuke, I know, I made a mistake by filling you with hatred. But whatever you decide to do from now on, I will love you always”. Meaning, He stopped treating Sasuke as a kid and accepts that Sasuke has his own path to walk.

This is exactly how brothers behave. I would do the same to my kid sister. You can see a fraternal instinct from Itachi’s eyes realizing that this is their last time together.

Another thing, Brothers trope always has this hierarchy.... Protect the younger sibling no matter what. It is evident from Madara/Izuna and Hashirama/Tobirama.

Not convinced?

If you pull the Indra and Ashura bullshit, let me tell you one thing. Indra and Ashura were separated and formed their own clan long ago. They eventually branched off into Uchiha and Senju clans. No way you can relate a century old blood relation as brothers. It’s just their chakra got reincarnated over and over.

Don’t pull up an incest angle between Naruto and Sasuke. Because they never shared a womb. Dot.

Naruto and Sasuke are Best Friends only.

You know what, you are almost right. I thought that for a very long time. Remember I never wore any shipping goggles ON.

There are two types of best friend categories. Best Friends without a reason and Best Friends through rivalry.

Best Friends without a reason in Narutoverse are: Shikamaru/Choji.

They just became friends and became BFF. They won’t fight or hurt each other. But when you have something to share...you would go to that person and share everything honestly.

Best Friends through Rivalry: Kakashi/Obito, Hashirama/Madara, Naruto/Sasuke

I really cannot provide more proof for the first two pairings as Best Friends as it is not the scope of this post. Although the latter two also qualifies for shipping category. Why?

Because, the common thing among them is that all the three Uchihas awakened/reawakened their Sharingan for their best friend. But Hashirama/Madara and Naruto/Sasuke are the only pairings to awaken or evolve Sharingan when trying to break their bonds with each other.

Special Brownie points for Madara. He had 4 brothers and lost 3 but still couldn’t awaken his Sharingan but when trying to break up with Hashirama, his eyes were brimming red.

Sasuke’s Sharingan matures in the first Valley of The End.

That’s why I excluded Hashirama/Madara and Naruto/Sasuke from this Best Friends list.

Because to the both Uchihas, the other person meant something special which cannot be comprehended into a mere term called ‘Best Friends’.

Which is exactly why Kakashi/Obito would perfectly fall into this category.

The way they quarrel, fight with each other, protect each other are perfect scores for a friendship. What makes them best friends is when Obito decided to give his Sharingan despite Kakashi was always putting a cold air around him and most importantly asked him to protect his love ‘Rin’. Also Kakashi carried his friend’s will to his heart and passed on to Team 7.

It all falls under ‘In the memory of my Best Friend’ trope.

Obito may be a trash but he is a good friend. Because after Rin was killed, he massacred everyone around him except for Kakashi. He could have killed him. Understandable. Or he could have plucked his Sharingan back (because he literally plucked most of the Sharingans from the Uchiha clan massacre and kept those eyes as a reserve). This could have enabled him to use Susanoo. I believe Susanoo can only be used with Mangekyo Sharingan in both eyes. But for some reason, he didn’t.

So what makes me think Naruto and Sasuke love each other, not as a brother and not as a friend but something beyond which I can’t term?

My way of shipping is not about marriage, sex and rearing babies. Because literally everyone does this as an obligation.

So, I don’t ship them in terms of living together in my headcanon and having sex daily. Nope. But it is not wrong though if you ship in that sense.

In this Narutoverse, Women are just some stow away pieces whose sole existence is to fawn over their dreamboy and cry for them. (Usually literally nothing useful comes out of them). Me being a girl, as much as I hate this setup but I have come to terms with whatever it is and have accepted it. If you are a girl looking for a strong female character...... this is not the place. Watch something else.

But I draw inspiration from male characters who are characterized deeply for which I have to applaud the creator. Reason being, the very first character which I connected with was Itachi. It was when Sasuke thinks about his past with his family in the flashback before the first VotE battle in part I. I will be writing a separate post about Itachi in this week.

In short, If you are a person who wants inspiration, draw it from male characters. Not in a single moment, you stoop so low for characters like Hinata and Sakura. That’s not how I envision myself or any woman. Dot.

With all this being said, I ship them as a couple who necessarily don’t have to get married or have sex... But they each other has some special allowance towards each other in their hearts which no one can touch, not even their wives or children.

This doesn’t mean I accept what came after episode 478 as they are literally something they made for $$$$$.

There are some basic traits which are absolutely necessary for a ship to sail successfully. They are Acknowledgement, Reason, No Hierarchy, Influence, Owning each others rights and Privilege. (All these reasons should come from both the sides for the ship to be worthy)

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Acknowledgement, I mean here, is to accept and acknowledge what they are to each other.

They both agree that they are Bonded/Friends verbally as well as emotionally.

To me, this is essential in any relationship especially for the ones you are trying to ship. I didn’t see this in any other ships like SS or NH where it is always one sided. Sakura confessed before the village entrance to which Sasuke said “You really are annoying!!”. Hinata proposed in Pain arc. Naruto didn’t even acknowledge her confession. He went on to beg for pardon for Sasuke. Again she proposed in the War at the expense of Love Cupid “Neji”. Naruto went on to joke with Minato that Sakura is his Girl Friend.

If I were in both of these girls place, I would literally be mad and drop this shit right away.

Wheras in SNS, I saw both the people I am trying to ship were asking “What am I to you?”, to which they reply “You are my friend”. To me this is very important.

Reason

To those who are saying “Love is blind”, “Love is Madness”, “Love needs no reason”, you all need self-evaluation. This is not some K Drama situation where you don’t need any reason. You should know why you love someone and why you need the other’s presence.

Naruto’s reason is very simple.

I could provide many reasons. But here, Sasuke, without any reservations... knowing full well of the consequence if he feed Naruto but still extended the helping hand to someone who was always hostile. It is just like what Iruka did. And many incidents which happened during Land of the Waves arc are evident.

He wanted to be friends with this lonely Uchiha boy way back when he was around 7 or 8 for a simple reason that he understands his pain more than anyone. But he really became friends when they were grouped together for Team 7.

Sasuke’s reason goes even way beyond when Naruto series started.

“Because he felt relief”.

Imagine a young boy who witnessed a massacre before his eyes and lost everyone he loved. But somehow another young boy of his age made him feel relieved. This explains why Sasuke went all out of his way to make friendship with Naruto despite being aloof.

Isn’t this what we want from someone we love?

Rather than being completely insensitive about an orphan life or just stalking from the distance and never offered any support, I would prefer someone who understands my pain from their heart and try to reach me. Sasuke reached out to him by offering the lunch and Naruto reached out to him by making him his rival and bug him.

NO HIERARCHY

This is pretty self-explanatory. Unlike blood brothers, there should be no hierarchy in a relationship I want to ship.

We saw Naruto yells at Sasuke many times absolutely for no reason, despite Sasuke bearing this cold attitude. Probably he is the only person who can call him by such variety of names.

Sasuke always calls him by his trademark ‘Usuratonkachi’. Sometimes he calls him fool just like everyone. But was never insulting or mean towards Naruto. Except for that time in the final battle, he made fun of his Shadow Clone jutsu citing his loneliness.

In short, be it a physical fight or verbal offense.... neither of them wilts like a flower. They equally give back.

The only other person who can verbally assault Sasuke is Karin and probably the only girl who never addresses him as “Sasuke-Kun”.

U-SU-RA-TON-KA-CHI..... Why do Sasuke spend such an effort to call someone with a 6 syllabic word, instead NA-RU-TO, a 3 syllabic word which is way more convenient to call?? I always wonder.

POSITIVE INFLUENCE

I don’t have to spell out anything here. There are many obvious examples but will try to keep it short.

Naruto became strong because of Sasuke. He trained hard for 3 years with Jiraiya , a month with Kakashi developing Rasen Shuriken and controlled Kurama’s power with Killer Bee. Except for Sage Mode jutsu everything he learnt was all for bringing Sasuke back.

In short, Sasuke is Naruto’s predominant strength.

Though Naruto was not the source of strength for Sasuke, but he brings out many vibrant emotions in Sasuke which he really needed for his traumatic mind otherwise he would always be that cold angry brooding doll without any emotions and I am sure Sasuke enjoys to banter with Naruto.

LOL!!! I don’t know why Sasuke feels competitve here. It’s pretty childish even for Sasuke.

Friendly tease :-) I think he also protected Sakura in this scene. He can also ask her the same, isn’t it? I mean as a friend.

The best one is yet to come

It’s incredibly hilarious to see how Sasuke pouts when he was with Naruto. Sakura!!!! You third wheeling joker :-D :-D

Throughout Shippuden, Sasuke never shows his emotions with anyone. He either looks very cold or angry.

Reminiscing his Team 7 days, for a split second.

Probably the only positive emotion is this, in all of the Shippuden. I mean not counting Episode 478.

I don’t think Sakura brought any kind emotions in Sasuke except annoyance when they were together in Team 7. Or Hinata too. These girls just moan “Sasuke-Kun”, “Naruto-Kun” but brings nothing to the table. Total wastrels!!!!!

OWNING EACH OTHER’S RIGHTS

This section is exactly where SNS moves on to a whole different level.

Sasuke wanted to inflict his pain over everyone who lives in peaceful Konoha for what it did to Itachi. (though I don’t really accept with Sasuke here since he never even bothered to question about his clan’s history, but what he was doing is understandable. Just like Naruto tells him).

But the context here is Sasuke is on a murder rampage. Starting from the Kage Summit, killing Danzo, unnecessarily hurting Karin and almost reached a point where he could not be stopped anymore. Then Ms.Annoying appears. She literally have no fucking clue what Sasuke is going through. So started to spout nonsense that she wanted to go with Sasuke-Kun with an ulterior motive to kill him without a strong resolve.

The interesting SS dynamics here is Sasuke asks Sakura “Do you know what I want?” and to which she gives a carefree-shitty-pathetic answer “I don’t care. I will do whatever you want”. Geez!!!

If I were Sasuke, I would think, “This person standing before me don’t even care about what I want but coming with an intent to kill me and not only that... she is a kunoichi from Konoha where I planned to inflict my pain by slaughtering them.. I better ram my Chidori and be done with it”... He doesn’t see her as his former Teammate. He just want to kill that person.

However, Kakashi deflects the attack and saves Ms.Useless.

( Me : I am a Sasuke fan through and through. But, Sakura..... You always says you will do this, do that.... But you never succeed at anything... Why is that? Why are you even continue being a ninja? No one asked you to kill Sasuke, you decided to. But why don’t you kill him. Probably you would’ve earned my begrudging respect... Pffft” ****sighs with a heavy second hand embarassment)

Anyways, Sasuke becomes an unstoppable maniac at this point because he was very irritated on seeing Kakashi and Sakura spouting some unreachable nonsense. So he started to attack Kakashi as he is even more irritated on seeing his Sharingan.

Again, Ms.Idiot wants to kill Sasuke when he is at his weakest point due to chakra exhaustion and that too from behind his back. (You!!! Gutless wrench). Sasuke sensed this and attempted to kill her again... (Naruto!!! You idiot. Why did you save her...)

However, Naruto appears and saves her. Naruto and Sasuke’s eyes meet each other.

But somehow Sasuke calmed down and hears out Naruto for what he has to say. He says, “Whatever you are doing until now, it’s understandable”.

Kakashi wanted to kill him and Sasuke got riled up and prepare his Chidori. Anyways, Naruto intervenes and they go to some meta physical plane and talks privately. And Naruto comes up with his idea and announces as below:

Me: Naruto!!!! Sweety..... Do you realize that you have a big dream of becoming a Hokage which you have been shouting from Day 1? But still you want to overthrow everything for that one person who is in unbearable pain. It’s alright. But you don’t want to go alone or send him alone. No Best friend would go this far. And to those Sakura shippers.... Why didn’t Sakura try to bear the burden? Why didn’t she come up with this Idea? Afterall, you spout nonsense like ‘Sakura saved Sasuke from Darkness, isn’t it?’ And, Naruto.... Who gave you the right to take his hatred and shoulder the burden? And what makes you think you are that only person to do it??? Sasuke, might have other special person in those 3 years. How can you decide on Sasuke’s behalf??? Aren’t you going overboard ?

The answer to all the above is simple, Naruto can risk anything for Sasuke. And he clearly knew that Sasuke’s only living bond is him.

And what happened next was almost unbelievable and for the first time I thought ‘What is it with these two guys?’.

Sasuke agrees with Naruto’s proposition to not destroy Konoha before fighting with Naruto.

Me: Sasuke!!!! You have every right to reject his proposition. Since, he was not in your life for the past 3 years, your side of bond with Naruto should have been cut-off long back, right? Sasuke??? Well, at this point he was just your former Team 7 member. You don’t need to honor your proposition. You can attack Konoha anytime. Why did you accept?

Also Me: Sweety!!! Why do you always question Naruto ‘Who am I to you’? Why do you need his opinion always? There is an annoying princess standing behind Naruto vying for your attention. And yet you didn’t even ask her this question at any time. But before Naruto, you completely calmed down from your rampage and willing to wait for what he has to say plus asking for his validation. After all you don’t care about anything, why just Naruto???

And the reason being, Naruto is still his closest bond which he couldn’t cut off despite trying very hard. After all, Many years ago, Sasuke was the one, who readily jumped in to protect Naruto knowing full well that it’s a trap. He was ready to throw away his revenge for this boy back then. Sasuke is afraid that he will give in to this bond once more and Naruto is his weakness which he wants to eliminate so badly.

This is definitely not any Best Friend would do..... Fix that in your mind.

The purpose of these GIFs is not show how protective Sasuke is..... Well, I can talk about it all day. Let’s save it.

Me: Yo!!!! Sasuke..... You wanted to kill Naruto.... You said so yourself under the bridge. Meaning, He is the only person standing between your goal and your resolve and Naruto is always known to weaken your resolve. And yet why are you protecting him here? There is absolutely no need. Because, if there is a situation like Kaguya where both of you are must needed to save this world , then there is a reason to save him. But why now? Plus do you know, if Naruto dies, then Madara’s plan may not succeed because if a Jinchuriki dies, tailed beast also dies. It is perfect for your Revolution, isn’t it? Who gave you the right to own his life? Obito has his reason to kill Naruto, why not let him?Why is it that you want to personally remove him from your life? He even implemented no kill policy for his team “Hebi”. So, someone like Sasuke who never liked to kill random innocent people, how could he let some trash take away a life, he considers dearly to the same level of Itachi? That’s why in this situation, his body moved on his own to protect something special for him. He may not agree it, but he always shows it.

But some other ship wankers try to say Sasuke may have said “You are annoying” but inside he deeply loved her which is why he was smiling. If so, Why didn’t Sasuke never showed his care not even once? He not only tried to kill her twice when she was defenseless but also let her die twice or didn’t bother at all during the war. Or show me where these soul level connection happened between SS or NH

In short, Sasuke and Naruto own each other’s rights unconsciously. Because they are the only ones who can understand each other’s soul which nobody can reach.

Me: Oh, by the way Sasuke, I think Susanoo should be used like this. You really don’t need your hand to protect Naruto. Susanoo can do it’s work for you. Minato would be proud though!!!!

PRIVILEGE

Most of the points I written above are in and of itself is a privilege they give for each other and not for anyone else. Privilege is essential in a ship. Because it shows how different a loved one is from normal people.

For Naruto,

I originally want to put how he begs for forgiveness on Sasuke’s behalf before Raikage and weeps immeasurably before hyperventilating. But this one trumps the other. Naruto literally broadcasted everyone how important Sasuke is to him and how he regretted not offering his friendship at that time and how he couldn’t stop Sasuke from reaching Orochimaru.

If you want to inspire Alliance shinobi forces, you should have shown how you worked so hard from the bottom to top. Projecting Sasuke as your regret and inspiring people shows how deeply you prioritize this person which affects you after so many years and hence, you don’t want any more regrets.

It’s very unconventionally romantic which passes the shipping category in flying colours.

For Sasuke,

The following is the Land of the waves arc which was novelized in the name of Innocent Heart, Demonic Blood released in 2006. 99.9% of the material is exactly as it happens in Manga/Anime.

This is the privilege Sasuke provides for Naruto. “ But coming from Sasuke, It almost counted as a hug”...

Now, the following are the scenes which add a mysterious flavour to this ship. I sincerely don’t understand why Kishimoto put this. I mean I am absolutely happy with it, but why? What was he thinking while drawing these scenes?

It’s also strange that, whenever they clash a Chidori with Rasengan..... They always gets repelled to their own sides and fall with a loud thump. But Naruto’s posture looks very perfect, I mean it looks like someone carried him and laid him down. Anyways, What’s Sasuke doing on Naruto’s side?? He should have fell on the opposite side. Why didn’t he walk away? There is absolutely no reason for Sasuke to come over to Naruto’s side and have an intense meaningful gaze.

This is another mysterious plus intense scene. I am still wondering, Is this really Sasuke? He is a person who avoids casual touches with anyone other than his brother. I’ve seen so many times Sasuke rejecting hugs from Sakura. I can’t even imagine what Kishimoto was thinking.

If you people pass these scenes off as Brotherhood or Best Friend chemistry... Then you lack basic human emotions. That’s all.

Me: Well, Sasuke, If you really want to kill him, you should have shovelled your sword right through Naruto’s vital point when you made that exuberant landing. There is literally no need for you to draw a long sword in close quarters. And what about the Personal Space??? With your speed, you can land without leaning on Naruto’s shoulders...

Also Me: Yo, Naruto... You were panicking when Sai does the same....but you don’t even flinch when Sasuke invades your personal space????

Anyways, it’s funny that both the intense scenes I have mentioned here were initiated by Sasuke. Quite strange and thrilling.

So, to conclude.... All these scenes I have mentioned made me unconsciously ship them as a pair. With all these being said, I believe all the ingredients for a good romance were laid perfectly. A moment of impulsive tension or affection, say a hug, between them after a difficult battle could mess with both and make a romance happen. And I don’t think either of them will deny especially Sasuke.

I don’t see any of this aspect in other popular ships such as SS and NH. If I am Sakura or Hinata in this universe, I will not be okay with my pair doing all these things with other person. I intentionally left scenes from Episode 478 as it is so intense and require a separate post. I am happy that even without Episode 478, SNS ship sails high. So, I believe both Sakura and Hinata are still fourth wheeling their respective pairs in Boruto universe also, I guess.
