personal hc that isnt entirely based on canon, but i imagine dirk as someone who cant handle being physically manipulated/cared for, or his stuff being touched or moved without his knowledge without going into a dissociative spiral.

partly because his environment growing up only ever changed because of his sole input/intent, and like, the way no one was there to care for him physically. there's this cognitive dissonance that happens when something does happen outside of his control even though it used to entirely be within it when he was on the aptmt and his brain goes offline in panic. goes in hand w his autism where everything has a routine or proper place it should be.

like even w his robots, he made their coding, so if something's not in one place, he knows where its gonna be at. hal is a bit of a wild card, bc she can act/think like dirk easily, but can do things differently which makes him tense up sometimes esp when he believes she's gonna antagonize him.

it ends up frustrating him 2 no end w his friends bc he rlly does like physical contact and stuff, but when it comes to reciprocation (even if he wants it) his brain is like nope.
