This exercise is a fast and explosive version of the alternating hip cross over on two boards.
This exercise builds core strength and power and mobility (rotation) through the spine. Another feature of these dynamic movements is their recruitment of upper body muscles in the chest, shoulders and upper back including the prime movers and the stabilizers. It’s a form of perturbation training in which the limbs themselves are relatively static in a closed kinetic chain but there are challenging dynamic loads firing up all of the shoulder support muscles.
On top of all if that there is a metabolic, cardiovascular benefit to performing this demanding exercise.
If this looks too difficult, there are several stepping stones or progressions to get to this point. If you (as a golfer) or your client (as a coach) have no major injuries and can get up and down from the floor, there are more accessible exercises with similar benefits.
