Lazuli is a humanoid with dark blue skin and golden freckles, like the colors of a lapis lazuli gemstone. She comes from a species of gem-based life forms who live in caverns underground on the planet orbiting Beta Cancri and who harvest and who eat bioluminescent mushrooms. Hxr species' culture assigns spiritual and protective significance to stars, gemstones, and mushrooms, and shx will participate in other spiritual practices of the system if there are any. Lazuli is an excellent communicator, valuing truth and honesty and helping the system express their truth when others are having difficulty doing so. Ze is good at diplomatically but definitively setting boundaries and protecting the system that way. Shx also values knowledge highly and tries to learn about as many topics as possible, especially about history, science, and culture. Shx particularly likes geology and art history. If the system are involved in academia or have a job that involves research, gem will happily participate in it.

In the past, people in the Animal Crossing community would make fun of Tom Nook as a sleazy landlord. Since then, he's really rehabilitated his image as this 'heart of gold' businessman (he's the one who puts bells and furniture in trees for you to find! he adopted orphans! he donates to charity!), but New Horizons genuinely paints the most devious version of him.

He's successfully privatized settler colonialism: you pay HIM to move to a "deserted island" (which apparently the oceans in the AC world are just full of) and start a colony that he is directly invested in. At best he's running a weird vacation package scam (you arrive on the island with no money and in debt for "using his services"). At worst, he's using you to set up company towns. For god's sake, he literally has his own fake currency that he forces you to use to pay off your debt. But don't worry, he's repackaged it in a way that definitely doesn't sound like an MLM scam: the Nook Mileage Program!

You're no longer just his tenant or his temporary part-timer, you're his business lackey. The entire tutorial section of the game has you spending actual weeks running around completing tasks and doing hard labor to set up his colony. You're even tasked with preparing his properties and finding buyers for them. No, you aren't a tenant anymore. You work for the landlord. You are directly responsible for finding tenants for him. And he doesn't even fucking pay you. Not for setting up town hall and museum, or his nephew's shop –– which is the ONLY store on the entire island that sells necessities –– or bringing KK Slider to town, or helping populate his town. Not a single cent. No, actually, you have to pay HIM to BUY infrastructure like bridges and stairs and park benches. And all the while, he's telling you're the "resident representative"; you get to call the shots! That the reward is the community's progress. That what you're doing is in everyone's best interest (but most importantly, his).

Since NH's release, people have done a lot of legwork to say that Tom Nook isn't a capitalist while the game shows him at his very worst. He owns the only general store in town. You're forced to use a phone that he modified and branded as his own. Buy Nook-branded furniture and merchandise at the self-serve kiosk in the town hall, a governmental building! There's no conflict of interest here!

But hey, if you're tired of being the landlord/business mogul's goon, you can also find work as a deluxe resort home designer for a company that also pays you in their special company currency that can only be used to buy their products instead of a real salary! Because that's what the Animal Crossing franchise needs! More vacation homes!!!

where's that one post somebody made a million years ago about how vax and vex in syngorn would have been surrounded by elves accustomed to 20-hour days. but as half-elves they can't trance and would have had to get 8 hours of sleep, thus limiting their productivity compared to their peers. and making them look worse or lesser by comparison to their dad who already hated them. cause that post fucked me up a little. i'm still haunted by that.

honestly what people don't realize is that a lot of queer liberation will come from liberating cishet people from feeling like they can only identify in highly specific ways or else they're not cishet. if we encourage cishet men to wear makeup, dresses, skirts, "feminine" blouses, and other gendered that would make people question their gender or sexuality, and encourage cishet women to wear "masculine clothing, forgo shaving and makeup, and having "manly" hobbies, we open the doors for all kinds of trans people to present and express themselves freely without worry.

we break down hatred and misunderstanding when we allow folks of all identities to be and express themselves in ways that make sense without forcing arbitrary rules and identities on them. we would move toward a society where both effeminate trans and cis men who wear makeup and dresses would not run into having their gender questioned by total strangers, we would move toward a society where both masculine trans and cis women would not have to deal with being misgendered and having their womanhood questioned.

cis folks having their gender be questioned as trans, and trans folks having their gender be questioned as cis because of how they dress are being affected by the same principal: men only dress one way, and women only dress one way. this creates stress for not only trans people. cis folk feel trapped and isolated by this logic every single day, and they shouldn't have to feel obligated to completely changed their gender identity in order to just dress and express themselves.

whether or not we like to address it, there are in fact cisgender people who feel trapped and held down by how strict gender presentation rules are. we shouldn't assert that they deserve to feel that way, but rather that no one should have to feel this way. no one should have to feel like they cannot be who they feel they are on the inside, no one should have to feel like they can't wear clothing that makes them feel like who they are and looks good to them. no one should have to feel like they can't express themselves.

everyone deserves the freedom to dress how they want to, no matter what gender they are and what unnecessarily gendered pieces of clothing they wish to wear. we need to liberate everyone from this mentality, it only helps more people be free of this unnecessary restriction we've placed on ourselves.
