You're better off asking someone actually in the industry about this because they can tell you more information, especially if they're a guild member. But essentially (from what I see/am experiencing), few shows getting greenlit, the shows that are getting greenlit getting cancelled abruptly, the streaming bubble that had previously pumped out so many shows popping, poor recruiting/hiring practices, high competition amongst artists, selective recruiters who are prioritizing veterans or artists they've previously worked with, generative AI causing instability, political instability affecting creators and studio heads, worsening crunch culture and job creep (individual artists being pressured to take on extra work/roles with no compensation), and internal struggles with TAG (The Animation Guild) that cause certain artists to be considered "unhirable."

But the industry swings on a pendulum. This is just a very long swing into the bad. We'll see how things shake out in a few years. And it's not impossible to find a job, but it requires so much energy now to network and post and network and grind grind grind just to get your foot in the door for the chance to get an unstable freelance gig, living paycheck-to-paycheck on a job you could get laid off from without warning. I don't have that energy anymore.

A more formal update on art and GG20s.

GG20s is not cancelled or anything. I still have way too many art ideas I want to get to. The desire is there, just not the drive. Admittedly, it has not been a great time to be posting art online. Having your art brigaded by racist freaks and turned into AI-generated minion memes and Zionist propaganda does something to your spirit. I'm in a huge transitional stage in my life and just haven't settled in yet.

The LA animation industry's doors have essentially shut on new graduates and beginners, and I just don't have the energy to roll that rock up the hill anymore. As a result, I've been feeling very stuck. It sucks having to strongly consider switching careers after dedicating the past two decades of my life to pursuing it, and with it comes a loss of inspiration to pick up a pencil if I'm no longer drawing for the benefit of my future self. It's becoming more and more difficult to imagine myself as a professional artist, and I'm scared I'm losing that 'no matter what it takes' drive that you need to live paycheck to paycheck in the industry. I generally get a lot of motivation from receiving feedback and positive comments from people, but after leaving Twitter, I felt especially very cut off from everything and everyone – all my mutuals and artist friends. Posting popular art just doesn't make me happy right now.

I've been focusing on more personal art that you may or may not have seen in the mean time. I'm doing fine health-wise. I'm volunteering at local museums and driving to LA every few weeks to go to raves or go on dates. I don't want to be 'that one tumblr artist who disappeared for years and then returned to make one final post about how they've moved on' that everyone knows.

For folks on Patreon, I reduced the prices for everything a month or so ago since it's inactive. I've been slowly drawing more NSFW art again, so hopefully it'll be updating soon again. For now, I wanna thank everyone who's supported me there even while my Patreon's gone dormant. As a thanks, I plan on opening commissions sometime soon for the first time in years with a discount to current Patreon supporters.

In short, I'm still here. I still like ponies. I'm trying to draw and interact with folks here. But I've definitely taken a step back from my online presence. Hopefully something changes for the better. Thanks for sticking with me.

I don't wanna get into SU discourse but I just wanted to say thank for speaking about that episode with Lars. It was yet another horror scenario for him that was not unpacked. I could go on a way too long rant about my thoughts on him and how the fandom treated him for years with episodes like that, Beach City Horror Club and Island Adventure being the other two examples.
