When you tryna get ready for that apartment inspection. When I switched apts. they traumatized me so badly, that I signed another 2 yr. lease here just b/c I'm afraid of the inspection! Not only did they make shit up about being damaged, but they kept my security deposit AND charged $2k extra on top of that!

Wish me luck.
Viewing a place to rent near (ish) to the Uni today. I have to travel for 10 hours to get there and back but its basically perfect for what I'm after.
Already had one of my two trains cancelled and the train hour means I miss the only bus for the last part of the journey by 5 mins but I'm hoping I can find a taxi to get me there on time in the 1 and a half hours I have in the area before the viewing. (Since it's only a 20 min drive, but ends up being an over 2 hour walk!)
If I get this place though... I can breathe. I can relax and I have time to move and settle before uni and the stress will fade away.
I have several things in my favour to get this place (been renting somewhere the same price with a perfect track record for 2 years, and I can pay 3 months rent upfront, my credit score is decent) but I also have several things against me (disability benefits, being a student, carer is my housemate and is my fulltime carer so also on carers benefits, I own reptiles, my carers credit score is shit)
But I can't help but hope.
Please. Please let this be it.

Does anyone know of any renter-friendly backsplash options?? Ours is pretty oil stained and I want to preserve what we have. I also want to make sure that I can take it off again when we move and it won鈥檛 peel any paint.
Any recommendations?? Personal experience would be best.

Do you think landlords should be able to evict tenants with only 24 hours notice?
Well, a couple of Republicans and one Texas Democrat are working hard to get rid of 30 day eviction notices and go back to the bad old days.
Full writeup with zero pay wallet here:
What can you do?
Call your federal Senators and ask them to oppose Senate Resolution S.470.
Then call your federal Representative in Congress and ask them to oppose the companion bill HR.1078.
There is so much crap going on at the federal level these days that it's helpful to flag stuff like this for your elected officials.
Go forth and be a polite menace!

At this point, I am doing this for posterity. Because my brain is fried.
I was asleep when this took place, but this is the gist-
My landlord called and was bullying and using baseless threats like calling the sheriff. My cousin took up for me and put him in his place and informed him if he wants me out, he needs to put it in writing. Evict me. He really thought that writing it on a piece of paper was was enough. That threatening them was enough. He also admitted he had not told me what he wants, which is me and all moms shit out. Because he expected them to do it for him.
He also purposely told them that he wasn鈥檛 getting the rent. Why? Who knows.
I have accepted this is what the universe wants and that it鈥檚 time for a fresh start. Which is what mom wanted for me to begin with. To live.
Though this is a dagger to my soul, I accept that it鈥檚 time for change. Not everyone gets a chance to start over, I鈥檝e been stuck in neutral since I was raped. It鈥檚 time to move forward and step fully into the light and meet who I鈥檓 going to be and try to see where I鈥檓 going. I am grateful.
But I am not making this easy on him, because his behavior is despicable, unlawful and unacceptable.
To put this on someone who鈥檚 grieving less than 5 weeks after my mom collapsed. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I have the strength and love of my mom inside me. In my heart. I finally hear everything she鈥檚 been trying to say for the last decade while I struggled with my mental health, health and PTSD.
I will be okay.
But I should not be having to think about or deal with this.
I should not have to go through my dead mother鈥檚 things to decide what I can live without and what I want. 60+ years of love to life to go through.
I鈥檓 tired of fighting life, I accept change and I can鈥檛 wait to meet myself in the future. Knowing I faced all of this with my chin held high, my shoulders back and knowing exactly what my rights are as a tenant.
Spite and rage are motivation enough to push forward.
My mom and I have been his tenant since I was 13. (I鈥檓 34) When my dad stopped paying the bills when he left, and I lost my childhood home. This is the only other home I鈥檝e ever known. My mom was a good woman who thought you were a good man and in 20 years, we鈥檝e barely asked for anything. This is how you repay having a steady income from people who live paycheck to paycheck.
I love you mommy.
Wish you were to tell me what to do.

Over the past few months I've been getting closer and closer to the conclusion that some of my social problems may in fact be partially solvable by simply moving to a bigger city.
The lack of a car is a part of this, but there's also some other shit.
Ever since the last time I was evicted into homelessness by a "leftist" for being unable to pay rent due to my disability, the "rigid values" autism has been hitting me really hard and I just can't stand being close friends with or dating most people anymore. It seems like most people, even leftists, are defensive of a homeowner's "right" (as it were) to rent out rooms in their house and then subsequently evict those people if and when they're unable to pay. I've even had to sever ties with people because they maintained amicable, unnecessary ties with landlords who own multiple properties (i.e. rent out space that is NOT connected to their primary residence).
I want to add that my most general definition of "landlord" includes people who rent out rooms inside their own place of residence. You are still using housing as capital to extract profit from other people. You're a landlord.
As someone who has been homeless multiple times and is aware of the harm that this extremely common disposition towards housing does to extremely vulnerable people, it often feels like I'm literally surrounded by enemies. Every time I start getting to know someone, I find myself instinctively trying to gauge how likely they'd be to look the other way if one of their buddies displaced a tenant (maybe me??) into homelessness.
I think it's partly a survival adaptation--to be hypervigilant about whether or not a new person, deep down, is a closeted property pervert who, when pressed to hold a loved one accountable, would ultimately defend the use of housing as capital over the use of housing to house people.
I especially feel this way when I meet a new person who is privileged enough to own a home: if they start renting a room out & using their control over their housing to profit off of others' need for housing (which is always parasitic & exploitative behavior), would they then force that other person into homelessness if their victim later became unable to cough up the cash?

Wow, I like this! It's an apt. in West New York, NJ. Much cheaper than my apt. at $2,000mo. 1bd, 1ba, 2nd fl. Look at it, what do you think?

I like the galley kitchen, but they don't seem to have a table. I guess you could put one in the living room area.

Beautiful remodeled bath. West New York is a little too far for me, and my lease isn't up until Nov., but I would consider something like this.

So yesterday, a number of people tried to explain to Ash Sarkar why her tweets were in poor taste at best.
Rather than choosing to listen to people who are definitely not in a position of power talking about their experiences of eviction, or having to leave their homes etc, or Cornish people in general trying to explain why we are not in a position of privilege here, and asking for her solidarity- she鈥檚 chosen to take one of these tweets out of context, and effectively ask for a pile on.
Ash Sarkar has regularly used the plight of renters to make money, writing in the media and similar. But now she鈥檚 using our housing crisis for laughs.
This isn鈥檛 the behaviour of a leftist, it鈥檚 the behaviour of a class traitor.

Landlords Investigated BY the Department of Justice!
Have You Heard The News!
It is about time that someone is investigating some of these greedy landlords!
Now, maybe, the homeless will soon be able to afford a roof over their heads.
We opened this Blog eleven years ago, and it is a joyous time, knowing that maybe now there is going to be true help for renters.
Now hopefully, someone will investigate some of the greedy investors who seems to be buying up our American properties.
