There are now over 15 million empty homes in the US, and 650,000 homeless per the very bias official numbers, or 23 houses per person

”landlords r the worst, most leech-like, most vampiric thing out there”
woah woah woah back it up buddy, that’s an insult to leeches and vampires everywhere! What’d leeches and vampires do to deserve being compared to such a horrid thing as landlords??

Ah yes. The joy of calling in maintenance only for them to say, this isn't our problem. This is the gas company's problem.
And then calling in the gas company only for them to say, this isn't our problem. This is your landlord's problem.
And in the meantime I've had no heat for a week during a fucking polar vortex. (I'm fine. My cat is fine. I live on the fifth floor, so ambient heat keeps me above freezing. It just really sucks in the meantime.)

Paying my rent always puts me in such an incredibly bad mood. It's like -50 to happiness levels and +100 to rage ones.

Can someone please please give me a little empty flat or house?
I will pay for it by making it look cute and sending you loads of pictures of my designs.

My parents are upset or confused by my lack of desire to rent from them the house I've lived in for over twenty years. My dad who talks with relish of being a slumlord (currently not renting out any property). Just. You make well over 4x as much as me and you want to profit off my needing housing? If I wanted to hate you, sure, it'd be a fine arrangement. Funnily enough, I don't want that.

friendly reminder that landlords nor real estate companies aren't your friends and that shelter is a basic human right, for the longest time real estate as a form of commerce is riddled to the brim with corruption and speculation that ultimately renders nothing but suffering and despair as they will gladly throw human lives under the bus just for a slight increase in profits. Millions of people are homeless and poverty striken with no way up as the system extracts every penny from the people on the bottom. Nothing short of comprehensive regulations or the dissolution of real estate as a commodity will save us, cause in the end never forget there are more of us than them and if need be their trillion dollar mansions would house dozens easily.

I'd be cheering at this sporting event so loud
My mum was ONE DAY LATE paying rent in July (it was a goddamn civic holiday the day before for Christs sake the banks were closed) and they tried to evict us (the court was on our side cause 1 day isn't enough to validate eviction especially during a major housing crisis and the landlords representative didn't show up on time lol)

obviously the “never been to a protest” website has certainly not frequented regional and municipal council meetings or news but I think it would shock them how often the landlords and oppressive business owners and anti homeless freaks are ALSO working class and lower middle class people living on pretty thin margins and that when even the most MODERATE pro homeless or pro minimum wage increase and public housing stuff is introduced it’s often seen as rich elites from out of town forcing shit on US. I’m not saying I agree or that there aren’t REALLY BAD rich people out there but they tend not to be at municipal council meetings and legislation to go after them can be a bit more nuanced or different - after all the really top guys tend to have lawyers and professionals to evade exactly this. But if you want to destroy capitalism you have to understand why it’s bad in the minutiae

. . . <- about to keel over.
landlord did not send me the lease until today. i signed it and have done everything except pay the prorated rent. they wont give me access to the apartment until i pay. however, the amount they're asking for is based off the full rental amount and not based on what should be my portion. i dont know what my portion will exactly be, the housing people haven't told me. emailed the housing people, i get an autoresponse "hey we're closed today! we'll respond next business day (monday) (day after ur supposed to move)." this is funny to me, bc landlord had to send the signed lease over to the housing people and housing people sent me a form earlier today, so like. someone *was* working.

My head is killing me. It's like a rotten pumpkin that wants to split open and spill its guts everywhere.
(yes im keeping with the fall metaphors.)
Im sure I look like a zombie, but I had to go out into the world and be seen to pay rent. Maybe ppl will just assume i was up til 4am getting blackout drunk like half two-thirds 99% of the neighborhood.
