You know, one weird cultural difference between Australia and the US that I noticed is the prevalence of heating/cooling in houses. A lot of houses in Australia do not have any kind of built in air conditioning or heating (apart from ceiling fans, sometimes) particularly if they aren't new build. Even then, it usually means a unit in one room not a ducted system. And I'm talking parts of the country that are basically overlapping with parts of the US where everyone has central AC and has it on all year. I was used to the inside of my house being more or less the same temperature as the outside. Or any temperature differential being maintained through obsessive opening and closing of windows/blinds, and use of either pedestal fans or space heaters.
I do currently live in a new reno, so I have a small built in aircon unit in my living room. But, it's an older building so, while the double brick construction is theoretically insulating, the bloody windows don't seal. They are just sitting there with huge gaps! So even though Sydney is objectively not that cold, I spend good portions of the season with blue fingernails and numb toes!!!

Over the past few months I've been getting closer and closer to the conclusion that some of my social problems may in fact be partially solvable by simply moving to a bigger city.
The lack of a car is a part of this, but there's also some other shit.
Ever since the last time I was evicted into homelessness by a "leftist" for being unable to pay rent due to my disability, the "rigid values" autism has been hitting me really hard and I just can't stand being close friends with or dating most people anymore. It seems like most people, even leftists, are defensive of a homeowner's "right" (as it were) to rent out rooms in their house and then subsequently evict those people if and when they're unable to pay. I've even had to sever ties with people because they maintained amicable, unnecessary ties with landlords who own multiple properties (i.e. rent out space that is NOT connected to their primary residence).
I want to add that my most general definition of "landlord" includes people who rent out rooms inside their own place of residence. You are still using housing as capital to extract profit from other people. You're a landlord.
As someone who has been homeless multiple times and is aware of the harm that this extremely common disposition towards housing does to extremely vulnerable people, it often feels like I'm literally surrounded by enemies. Every time I start getting to know someone, I find myself instinctively trying to gauge how likely they'd be to look the other way if one of their buddies displaced a tenant (maybe me??) into homelessness.
I think it's partly a survival adaptation--to be hypervigilant about whether or not a new person, deep down, is a closeted property pervert who, when pressed to hold a loved one accountable, would ultimately defend the use of housing as capital over the use of housing to house people.
I especially feel this way when I meet a new person who is privileged enough to own a home: if they start renting a room out & using their control over their housing to profit off of others' need for housing (which is always parasitic & exploitative behavior), would they then force that other person into homelessness if their victim later became unable to cough up the cash?

I wish there was more unity in the world....
we could really do some good work if everyone came together more
like I, people talk about problems but fail to support eachother on ANY of them.
like in apartments.....we all know about slumlords and the "landlord specials" we forced to deal with , but why not ban together to support eachother in getting justice for ourselves.
Ban together with the whole building and sue the owner for failing to have the building up to code and other issues!
get to know everyone in the portent, set up a group chat and meet once a week and make sure to document ll your complaints and grieves with your apartment, and all the ignore and negated requests and hire a lawyer to repent your nd SUE them!
its literally genius. your all suffering and we all need support. I know in low income apartments , don't have the luxury of a layer but if you all document your things, and chip in 100 dollars per person and then make use of that time with that lawyer.
whatever petty doffeneces can wait until after, we have bigger issues like very quality if our lies to worry about.
ive seen it done with HOAS and all they did was get a signature to dian the HOA.

Benefits of being a solo renter
Renting alone or with a roommate is a personal choice of the renter. While many people prefer sharing the rental space with other roommates; there are a few individuals that prefer renting alone. And this is not just because of the introvert nature of the person but also because of the unique benefits that follow. Colive reviews the top benefits of being a solo renter.
Top 5 benefits of renting alone:
· Freedom: One of the major benefits of renting alone is the freedom to use the space as per your choice without any interference. You can use as much space to place your belongings, the bed is all yours, and you can stay up late to watch movies and what not. Basically, you can set your own rules as there is no one to obstruct your way of living.
· Peace:You solely own the space and it’s up to you to make or break the silence. You can simply enjoy the peace or listen to your favourite music at your preferred volume. You can also make use of this calm environment to accomplish some task, read a book or meditate. So, relax and unwind your way without any distraction!
· Me-time:Renting alone gives you plenty of me-time to work on yourself. This could be working on your fitness, taking up a hobby, binge watching Netflix and much more. Sometimes, you can also call up your friends to spend some quality time. Giving first preference to your needs would always keep you in good mood.
· Work Mode: While renting alone lets you enjoy your peace; it also saves you from possible distractions. Hence, on days that you wish to work from home; you can simply do so without any disturbance from fellow roommates.
· Self-care: Living by yourself teaches you essential self-care skills. Right from managing your monthly budget to taking care of routine tasks like laundry, cooking etc. instils a sense of responsibility in you which is one big step towards personal growth. This inturn boosts your self-confidence as well.
So, if these benefits inspire you for solo renting then do give it a try with Colive’s stylish studio apartments in Bangalore. But do remember that solo renting does not mean restricting yourself from socialising. Embrace solo renting but at the same time indulge in community events and parties to strike a fine balance between solitude and social interaction.

Mortgage? No, Thanks. No Interest for Life
The mortgage precipice. Everyone seems to be on it and, bizarrely, wants to be on it, despite the threat of the Bank of England making another ‘announcement.’ But here’s the reality: having a mortgage does not make you a home ‘owner’; you are, essentially, renting from the bank or building society with whom you have taken it out, and they, just like any landlord, if you fail to make those monthly…

Moving is a lot. It's a lot of change and I'm excited to be settled (I also enjoy the organizing and decorating), but I'm ready to be settled. I'm tired and mini meltdowns are tiring.

Two Ontario residents have created a website that allows tenants to anonymously rate their landlords.
The Rate The Landlord website has grown in popularity since its launch three weeks ago, and now has more than 1,500 reviews from tenants..
The two co-founders — who CBC News agreed not to name over concerns for their safety — said they decided to build the platform because while tenants have to provide a lot of personal information when leasing a property, there is a lack of transparency when it comes to landlords.
