I’d also like to add an additional reason for this. The more neutral decor choices they make the more “mass appeal” it has. Making bold aesthetic choices may “turn off” potential customers. Trying to please everyone with your design choices creates uniformity and squashes uniqueness, whimsy, and color.

This is how any corporation functions. First, increasing profits is done by attracting more customers. Then, once they have all the customers they're going to get, increasing profits is done by increasing prices or cutting costs.
