Maybe I will try to imagine my anxiety/OCD in future as the friendly derpy failed-sheepdog-training* border collie my next door neighbour had when I was growing up. I think that will make it easier for me to know it means well but is being a bit silly and can and should be redirected. *he failed training not because he wouldn't herd the sheep, but he herded everything else as well. His name was Moss. When I knew him he herded cars and bushes and my cat, who was a a bit derpy herself and very fluffy and sleepy, and would curl up quite happily wherever he put her knowing she was safe from the fiercer street cats who liked to try and beat her up. She was scared of gerbils but I think she decided Moss was Friend.

fun thing about herding and/or generally neurotic breeds: they are really good at following rules you have instituted, but they will also make their own Dog Rules they will follow stringently whether or not you like it
