human resource management pt.2
i've begun posting my notes in tumblr post format to revise for my exam tomorrow (this was written on 27-05-24, i'm probably going to schedule though to avoid spamming). here's the second hrm topics post!
part 1 | part 3 | part 4
in the last post, we looked at demographic change, employee welfare, and flexi-time. this time we will focus on the gig economy and immigration.
the gig economy is characterised by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs. for example, freelance, delivery drivers, taxi services, contract services, and other flexible work opportunities. a huge example of this is uber - which is an app that offers various 'rides' to assist people to reach their destinations.
businesses can use gig workers by hiring them as independent contractors, in the place of full-time employees. this is a cheaper alternative for the business, as it saves on employee benefits and rids the need for training employees.
however, gig work limits workers' potential for career development, lacks job security and secure income, and the worker misses out on employee benefits.
compliance with labour laws and regulations can be complex when managing gig workers. companies must understand legal requirements and adapt their hrm policies to address gig workforce management.
immigration refers to the action of moving to live in a different location with intentions to stay in the area. this is not the same as labour mobility, since immigration is the movement of people for non-work-related reasons.
one advantage of immigration on businesses includes the filling of job positions that domestic workers cannot be placed in. also, the company may benefit from new points of view - and gain a niche marketing opportunity.
negatives of this topic are that migrant workers may be unfamiliar with federal laws and regulations, and the workers may be more unproductive than the local employees. therefore, a business may need to invest more time into the foreign employee.
///
again, hope this post was fun to read! it's definitely more fun to post than read over my notes.

My first ever presentation in Mandarin Chinese
The world of business presentations can be nerve-wracking enough for someone, even in their native tongue. Yet, I love speaking in public, entertaining the audience, and interacting with them, in presentations, lessons, lectures, or seminars. Now, imagine facing a room full of attentive faces, bright lights, and the pressure to deliver a clear, concise message – all in a language you’re still…

Selecting the Right Tools for Effective Presentations
Selecting appropriate tools for presentations is a critical aspect of delivering an impactful message to an audience. A presenter should carefully assess the purpose and objectives of their presentation to determine the most effective tools for conveying information. This could range from traditional slide decks to interactive multimedia presentations, depending on the nature of the content being presented. It is also crucial to take into account the audience's technological proficiency when choosing the tools to ensure seamless communication and engagement.
Moreover, rehearsing and becoming familiar with the selected tools is imperative for a polished and professional delivery that resonates with the audience, making a lasting impression.
By meticulously selecting the right tools, presenters can elevate their presentations and create a memorable experience for their audience. The choice of tools plays a significant role in how information is communicated and perceived by the viewers.
It is essential to strike a balance between technological sophistication and user-friendliness to ensure that the tools enhance rather than distract from the message being conveyed.
A well-prepared presenter who has mastered their tools can captivate their audience, foster engagement, and effectively convey their message with clarity and impact.
Visual Sculptors Designs – Aligned to Client Branding Guidelines.
To ensure that presentations are in line with a management consulting company's branding and messaging, we adopt various important strategies: After signing an agreement with a firm, we have calls to understand past projects and brand guidelines. We then create a detailed style sheet for approval, usually finalizing after 1-2 iterations. For the initial 10-15 deliveries, the agency prioritizes delivering high quality work with multiple quality checks. This includes ensuring brand consistency in aspects like color scheme, choosing appropriate chart types, and formatting elements. Graphic design process helps familiarize the agency team with the client's brand.

PowerPoint Presentation Ultimate Guide to Creating Stunning Slides
The following guide will give you insights on how one can create a step-by-step PowerPoint presentation, choose the ideal template, and provide tips to improve your slides to get the most effect. Finally, we answer some of the most frequent questions so that you may be better prepared to knock their socks off.
What is in a PowerPoint Presentation?
A PowerPoint presentation is a compilation of information and knowledge presented on several slides. It is an orderly way of presenting knowledge. Typically, the ideal PowerPoint presentation encompasses:
Title Slide:Â The title slide gives your PowerPoint presentation a mantrap-like gateway. The main items included are a bold title that can seize attention, a subtitle that can add clarity, and your name or organization for credibility. Consider adding a date or the name of an event to provide context. Add an eye-catching background image or design element; make it one that would set the mood for the whole Presentation. Make it memorable!
Agenda:Â The agenda slide is an essential slide as it takes your audience through the Presentation. It puts on notice about the main points that will be discussed in the Presentation, showing, in a way, the roadmap to follow. A clear and to-the-point agenda provides insight into allowing the easy keeping of focus, hence allowing the audience to catch the flow easily. The agenda slide can be decorated with interesting visuals or icons, and that can be very helpful for better communication.
Slides:Â These are the chief constituents of any PowerPoint presentation, slides, text, images, charts, and videos. Your slide should be able to state one clear message; this you can do using limited bullet points. Visuals not only help in the engagement of the students but also increase their learning. Charts can be used very effectively to showcase data. Design consistency helps in font, color, transitions, and animation that adds interest.
Conclusion Slide:Â The last slide of a PowerPoint is key to a lasting impression. It often includes a summary of critical points, a call to action, and contact information. Visuals can reinforce the message and make it memorable. A good conclusion prompts the audience to reflect. It invites questions and discussions to explore the topic further.

PlayStation Says Live-Service Games Will Launch Day-And-Date On PC, But Single Player Games Won't
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/playstation-says-live-service-games-will-launch-day-and-date-on-pc-but-single-player-games-wont/
PlayStation Says Live-Service Games Will Launch Day-And-Date On PC, But Single Player Games Won't
PlayStation has reiterated its approach to releasing its games on PC, stating live-service games will launch day-and-date on PC. However, its tentpole single player games will not.Â
This comes from one of PlayStation’s dual CEOs, Hermen Hulst, during a public business presentation held earlier this morning. During it, Hulst explained the strategy for releasing PlayStation’s single-player games on PC at a later date, rather than day-and-date, citing it’s part of a strategy to bring more people into the PlayStation platform.Â
[embedded content]
“Indeed, we are bringing our titles to the PC platform, and we have a dual approach here,” Hulst said. “On the live service side, we are releasing our titles simultaneously, so day and date on PlayStation 5 and PC. But with our tentpole titles, our single player narrative-driven titles that [are] the backbone of what PlayStation studios has delivered in recent years and in our history, we take a more strategic approach and we introduce our great franchises to new audiences, and we’re finding new audiences that are potentially going to be very interested in playing, for example, sequels, on the PlayStation platform.
“We have high hopes that we are actually able to bring new players into PlayStation at large, but into PlayStation platforms specifically. Actually, the same goes for the work that we do with extending our great properties onto other media, such as television series and film, for example, as you have seen with The Last of Us on HBO or Gran Turismo on film, that brings new players into our franchises as well.”
While this doesn’t come as a surprise – we saw the live-service multiplayer Helldivers 2 launch earlier this year simultaneously on PS5 and PC while Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut only just hit PC this month, years after its PS5 release – it’s nice to officially hear PlayStation’s approach moving forward.
For more, read about how the PS5 generation is already Sony’s most profitable yet, and then read about how the PS5 recently broke a sales record for Sony. After that, check out Game Informer’s list of the top 10 PS5 games.Â
Do you think PlayStation’s making the right call with how it handles PC releases? Let us know in the comments below!

seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything
#i personally like to not be doing things constantly at all times. it stresses me out#i know there are ppl who thrive on cosntant activity#but me i like to chill out.#and the problem then becomes that i only ACTIVELY remember to do work and Find More Work To Do when im stressed#at the thought that others might want to see me working#if im ever relaxed i just dont look for stuff to do#catch 22 of modern work culture which permeates even ostensibly noncapitalist structures like public libraries#for instance: will it really kill anybody if the books get shelved by me now after a very busy day?#or shelved tomorrow morning by. well probably me since i'll be the one at the desk#not in the slightest#but it was work that wasnt being immediately done by me. therefore it was incorrect behavior#that i failed to identify because my instinct is to relax when not immediately presented with a Situation#this got me labeled as 'having no initiative' by my dad from a very early age#and even as an adult i still feel like im a child with no initiative
