human resource management pt.2
i've begun posting my notes in tumblr post format to revise for my exam tomorrow (this was written on 27-05-24, i'm probably going to schedule though to avoid spamming). here's the second hrm topics post!
part 1 | part 3 | part 4
in the last post, we looked at demographic change, employee welfare, and flexi-time. this time we will focus on the gig economy and immigration.
the gig economy is characterised by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs. for example, freelance, delivery drivers, taxi services, contract services, and other flexible work opportunities. a huge example of this is uber - which is an app that offers various 'rides' to assist people to reach their destinations.
businesses can use gig workers by hiring them as independent contractors, in the place of full-time employees. this is a cheaper alternative for the business, as it saves on employee benefits and rids the need for training employees.
however, gig work limits workers' potential for career development, lacks job security and secure income, and the worker misses out on employee benefits.
compliance with labour laws and regulations can be complex when managing gig workers. companies must understand legal requirements and adapt their hrm policies to address gig workforce management.
immigration refers to the action of moving to live in a different location with intentions to stay in the area. this is not the same as labour mobility, since immigration is the movement of people for non-work-related reasons.
one advantage of immigration on businesses includes the filling of job positions that domestic workers cannot be placed in. also, the company may benefit from new points of view - and gain a niche marketing opportunity.
negatives of this topic are that migrant workers may be unfamiliar with federal laws and regulations, and the workers may be more unproductive than the local employees. therefore, a business may need to invest more time into the foreign employee.
///
again, hope this post was fun to read! it's definitely more fun to post than read over my notes.

My first ever presentation in Mandarin Chinese
The world of business presentations can be nerve-wracking enough for someone, even in their native tongue. Yet, I love speaking in public, entertaining the audience, and interacting with them, in presentations, lessons, lectures, or seminars. Now, imagine facing a room full of attentive faces, bright lights, and the pressure to deliver a clear, concise message – all in a language you’re still…

Selecting the Right Tools for Effective Presentations
Selecting appropriate tools for presentations is a critical aspect of delivering an impactful message to an audience. A presenter should carefully assess the purpose and objectives of their presentation to determine the most effective tools for conveying information. This could range from traditional slide decks to interactive multimedia presentations, depending on the nature of the content being presented. It is also crucial to take into account the audience's technological proficiency when choosing the tools to ensure seamless communication and engagement.
Moreover, rehearsing and becoming familiar with the selected tools is imperative for a polished and professional delivery that resonates with the audience, making a lasting impression.
By meticulously selecting the right tools, presenters can elevate their presentations and create a memorable experience for their audience. The choice of tools plays a significant role in how information is communicated and perceived by the viewers.
It is essential to strike a balance between technological sophistication and user-friendliness to ensure that the tools enhance rather than distract from the message being conveyed.
A well-prepared presenter who has mastered their tools can captivate their audience, foster engagement, and effectively convey their message with clarity and impact.
Visual Sculptors Designs – Aligned to Client Branding Guidelines.
To ensure that presentations are in line with a management consulting company's branding and messaging, we adopt various important strategies: After signing an agreement with a firm, we have calls to understand past projects and brand guidelines. We then create a detailed style sheet for approval, usually finalizing after 1-2 iterations. For the initial 10-15 deliveries, the agency prioritizes delivering high quality work with multiple quality checks. This includes ensuring brand consistency in aspects like color scheme, choosing appropriate chart types, and formatting elements. Graphic design process helps familiarize the agency team with the client's brand.

Minimalist Business Presentation Template
A minimalist design eliminates extraneous components to leave only what is significant, obvious, and impactful. Not only is aesthetics important, but so are readability, practicality, and conveying a meaningful message free of superfluous details. This post will explain minimalist corporate presentation templates, their advantages, and how to make an eye-catching one.
What is a Minimalist Business Presentation Template?
Using a minimalist corporate presentation template, you may build clear, uncomplicated slides by using a pre-designed framework. Through the use of straightforward typography, less superfluous design components, and an emphasis on whitespace, minimalism aims to reduce distractions. To make sure that the audience can quickly comprehend and remember the main point, the presentation should be as succinct and targeted as possible.
Key characteristics of a minimalist business presentation template include:
Clean layouts: The template avoids clutter and excessive visuals, opting for a streamlined and straightforward design.
Consistent fonts: It typically uses one or two legible fonts for headings and body text, ensuring readability.
Subtle color schemes: Minimalist templates often rely on neutral or muted colors to avoid overwhelming the viewer.
Whitespace: The strategic use of empty space to highlight key content and avoid visual overload.
Simplified graphics: While images and icons are used, they are minimal and chosen carefully to support the message rather than distract from it.
Why Use a Minimalist Business Presentation Template?
More than just a fad in design, minimalism is an effective technique that can change how your audience absorbs and uses information. The following are some of the key arguments in favour of using a minimalist corporate presentation template:
1. Clarity of Message
The main benefit of a minimalist design is that it makes you concentrate on your message, which is what really counts. Your audience will be able to concentrate on your main arguments if you eliminate any superfluous distractions. This makes communication more understandable and guarantees that your message is not obscured by overly detailed images or lengthy text passages.
2. Professional Appeal
Minimalist presentations convey a sense of professionalism. They show that you value simplicity, precision, and efficiency — qualities that are often associated with competence and expertise. A clean and well-organized presentation reflects well on the presenter and the company, making it ideal for corporate meetings, investor pitches, or formal webinars.
3. Improved Readability and Engagement
With less clutter on the slides, viewers can focus on the content without feeling overwhelmed. The use of larger, readable fonts and ample spacing makes it easier for your audience to follow along without losing interest. A well-designed minimalist template guides the audience’s attention to the most important elements, keeping them engaged throughout the presentation.
4. Time-Saving and Efficient
A minimalist business presentation template is easier to put together because it relies on a straightforward design. You won’t waste time tweaking elaborate animations or inserting unnecessary elements. Instead, you’ll spend time crafting the content, which is what truly matters. It’s an efficient way to deliver a message without getting bogged down in excessive design details.
5. Flexibility and Versatility
Minimalist templates are extremely versatile. Whether you’re delivering a sales pitch, discussing a project proposal, or sharing research findings, a clean, minimalist design can adapt to any type of presentation. The neutral color schemes and simple layouts work for a wide range of industries and topics, giving you the flexibility to tailor your content without needing to overhaul the design.
6. Timeless Design
Unlike trendy or overly-designed templates that can feel outdated within a few years, minimalist templates have a timeless appeal. The simplicity and elegance of minimalist design ensure that your presentation will remain fresh and relevant for a long time. You won’t need to constantly update your template to keep up with changing trends.
How to Create an Effective Minimalist Business Presentation Template
Creating an effective minimalist business presentation template requires balance. You want to keep things simple, but you also need to ensure the slides are informative and engaging. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you craft a minimalist presentation template that strikes the perfect balance.
1. Choose a Simple Color Palette
The initial stage of developing a minimalist template involves choosing a non-obtrusive and neutral colour scheme. Select subdued hues like white, grey, black, and soft green or blue tones. The information is highlighted while remaining professional and serene thanks to the use of these colours. For emphasis, it’s crucial to use a contrasting colour as well. When highlighting vital information, call-to-actions, or crucial areas, use this colour sparingly. For important headings or charts, you may, for instance, use a light grey backdrop with black text and add a splash of orange or red.
2. Use Simple, Consistent Fonts
Typography plays a crucial role in minimalist design. Stick to one or two fonts throughout the entire presentation. The fonts you choose should be clean, modern, and highly legible. Sans-serif fonts like Arial, Helvetica, or Open Sans are ideal for minimalist presentations because they offer simplicity and readability.
Use a consistent font size hierarchy to differentiate between headings, subheadings, and body text. For example, you can use a larger size for the slide titles, a medium size for subtitles, and a smaller size for the main content. Avoid using more than two font sizes on a single slide to maintain consistency.
3. Limit the Use of Text
One of the core principles of minimalist design is brevity. Avoid overcrowding your slides with long paragraphs or excessive amounts of text. Instead, aim for bullet points or short, impactful statements that summarize your key points.
Follow the “6x6 rule” for text on slides: no more than six bullet points per slide, and no more than six words per line. This ensures that the audience can quickly read and understand the information, rather than spending time deciphering dense paragraphs.
4. Incorporate Whitespace
Whitespace, also known as negative space, is an essential element of minimalist design. Don’t feel the need to fill every corner of the slide with content. Leaving space around your text, images, and graphics gives the presentation a clean, organized look. It also helps guide the viewer’s eye to the most important parts of the slide.
Proper use of whitespace makes your presentation feel more open and less cramped. It also makes it easier for the audience to focus on one element at a time, increasing comprehension.
5. Use High-Quality Visuals Sparingly
While visuals can enhance a presentation, in minimalist design, less is more. Avoid overcrowding your slides with too many images or graphics. Instead, opt for one high-quality, relevant image per slide if needed. This approach ensures that the visuals complement your message without overwhelming it.
You can also use icons or simple vector graphics to convey concepts without using large, detailed images. Minimalist illustrations or icons are more aligned with the clean aesthetic of minimalist design and can be used to break up text-heavy slides.
6. Maintain a Consistent Layout
Consistency is key in a minimalist business presentation template. Establish a grid system or a standard layout for your slides, and stick to it throughout the presentation. Whether you use a two-column format, a centered layout, or a left-aligned format, maintaining consistency ensures a polished and cohesive look.
This also applies to the placement of text, images, and graphics. Consistent placement helps the audience anticipate where information will appear on each slide, making it easier for them to follow along.
7. Avoid Overusing Animations and Transitions
Minimalism is about simplicity, and over-the-top animations or transitions can disrupt that simplicity. Avoid using distracting transitions between slides or elaborate animations that take away from your message. Instead, keep transitions smooth and straightforward — fade-ins, slide-ins, or simple reveals are more than enough.
8. Emphasize Data with Simple Charts
If your presentation includes data, opt for simple, easy-to-understand charts and graphs. Pie charts, bar graphs, and line charts should be used in their most basic forms to communicate data points effectively. Avoid 3D effects or overly intricate visuals, as these can make the data harder to interpret.
Additionally, limit the amount of data presented on each slide. Instead of overwhelming the audience with complex charts, break up the data into digestible chunks and spread them across multiple slides.
Conclusion
A minimalist corporate presentation template provides a neat, orderly, and polished means of communicating your ideas. Its simplicity-focused approach will assist you in eliminating superfluous distractions and highlighting your content, which is what really counts. When crafting a pitch, giving thoughts, or presenting facts, the minimalist approach makes sure that your message is not only heard but also comprehended and retained.

PlayStation Says Live-Service Games Will Launch Day-And-Date On PC, But Single Player Games Won't
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/playstation-says-live-service-games-will-launch-day-and-date-on-pc-but-single-player-games-wont/
PlayStation Says Live-Service Games Will Launch Day-And-Date On PC, But Single Player Games Won't
PlayStation has reiterated its approach to releasing its games on PC, stating live-service games will launch day-and-date on PC. However, its tentpole single player games will not.
This comes from one of PlayStation’s dual CEOs, Hermen Hulst, during a public business presentation held earlier this morning. During it, Hulst explained the strategy for releasing PlayStation’s single-player games on PC at a later date, rather than day-and-date, citing it’s part of a strategy to bring more people into the PlayStation platform.
[embedded content]
“Indeed, we are bringing our titles to the PC platform, and we have a dual approach here,” Hulst said. “On the live service side, we are releasing our titles simultaneously, so day and date on PlayStation 5 and PC. But with our tentpole titles, our single player narrative-driven titles that [are] the backbone of what PlayStation studios has delivered in recent years and in our history, we take a more strategic approach and we introduce our great franchises to new audiences, and we’re finding new audiences that are potentially going to be very interested in playing, for example, sequels, on the PlayStation platform.
“We have high hopes that we are actually able to bring new players into PlayStation at large, but into PlayStation platforms specifically. Actually, the same goes for the work that we do with extending our great properties onto other media, such as television series and film, for example, as you have seen with The Last of Us on HBO or Gran Turismo on film, that brings new players into our franchises as well.”
While this doesn’t come as a surprise – we saw the live-service multiplayer Helldivers 2 launch earlier this year simultaneously on PS5 and PC while Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut only just hit PC this month, years after its PS5 release – it’s nice to officially hear PlayStation’s approach moving forward.
For more, read about how the PS5 generation is already Sony’s most profitable yet, and then read about how the PS5 recently broke a sales record for Sony. After that, check out Game Informer’s list of the top 10 PS5 games.
Do you think PlayStation’s making the right call with how it handles PC releases? Let us know in the comments below!

seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything
#i personally like to not be doing things constantly at all times. it stresses me out#i know there are ppl who thrive on cosntant activity#but me i like to chill out.#and the problem then becomes that i only ACTIVELY remember to do work and Find More Work To Do when im stressed#at the thought that others might want to see me working#if im ever relaxed i just dont look for stuff to do#catch 22 of modern work culture which permeates even ostensibly noncapitalist structures like public libraries#for instance: will it really kill anybody if the books get shelved by me now after a very busy day?#or shelved tomorrow morning by. well probably me since i'll be the one at the desk#not in the slightest#but it was work that wasnt being immediately done by me. therefore it was incorrect behavior#that i failed to identify because my instinct is to relax when not immediately presented with a Situation#this got me labeled as 'having no initiative' by my dad from a very early age#and even as an adult i still feel like im a child with no initiative

Business Strategy Template
Crafting a Successful Business Strategy: The Ultimate Template
In today’s dynamic trade environment, a clear and effective commercial strategy is important for all organizations aiming for prosperity. Appropriately structured commercial strategies are not only for decision -making, but also for coordinating resources and efforts for common purposes. In this article, we will examine important elements of commercial strategy models, provide effective information, and provide guides for each step to adapt to the unique needs of the organization.
Understanding Business Strategy
Before we get into the model itself, it’s important to understand what a business strategy entails. A business strategy is a comprehensive plan that explains how a business will achieve its goals and objectives. This includes analysis of the fierce competition, the understanding of the market dynamics, and the resources required for success.
Why a Business Strategy Template is Important
Clarity: A template provides a clear framework that helps organizations articulate their vision, mission, and objectives.
Consistency: Using a standardized approach ensures that all team members are on the same page regarding the company’s strategic direction.
Focus: A well-defined strategy helps prioritize initiatives and allocate resources effectively.
Flexibility: While the template provides structure, it can be adapted as the business environment changes, allowing for agility and responsiveness.
Key Components of a Business Strategy Template
A comprehensive business strategy template typically includes several key components:
Executive Summary
A brief overview of the business strategy, including the main objectives and strategic priorities.
2. Vision Statement
A clear and inspiring description of what the organization aspires to achieve in the long term.
3. Mission Statement
A statement that defines the organization’s purpose, core values, and the fundamental reason for its existence.
4. Goals and Objectives
Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that guide the organization towards its vision.
5. Market Analysis
An assessment of the industry landscape, including market trends, customer demographics, and competitive analysis.
6. SWOT Analysis
An analysis of the organization’s internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats.
7. Competitive Positioning
A clear understanding of the organization’s unique value proposition and how it stands out in the marketplace.
8. Strategic Initiatives
Detailed action plans that outline the steps necessary to achieve the stated goals and objectives.
9. Metrics and KPIs
Key performance indicators that will be used to measure progress and success.
10. Review and Adjustments
A plan for regularly reviewing and adjusting the strategy based on performance data and changes in the business environment.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Business Strategy Template
Step 1: Conduct a Situational Analysis
Before you can formulate your strategy, it’s essential to understand the current landscape of your business and its environment. This involves gathering data about your industry, competitors, and customers.
Market Research: Analyze market trends, customer preferences, and emerging technologies.
Competitive Analysis: Identify key competitors and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.
Internal Assessment: Review your organization’s resources, capabilities, and performance.
Step 2: Define Your Vision and Mission
Your vision and mission statements are the foundation of your business strategy. They should articulate what your organization aims to achieve and why it exists.
Vision Statement: Think about the long-term future you envision for your organization. What impact do you want to make?
Mission Statement: Define your organization’s purpose and core values. What do you stand for, and who do you serve?
Step 3: Set Clear Goals and Objectives
Once you have a clear vision and mission, the next step is to establish specific goals and objectives. Use the SMART criteria to ensure they are actionable.
Specific: Define clear, specific outcomes.
Measurable: Ensure that progress can be tracked with quantifiable metrics.
Achievable: Set realistic goals that can be accomplished.
Relevant: Align goals with the overall mission and vision.
Time-Bound: Set deadlines for achieving these goals.
Step 4: Perform a SWOT Analysis
Conducting a SWOT analysis helps you identify the internal and external factors that can impact your business.
Strengths: What advantages does your organization have?
Weaknesses: What areas need improvement?
Opportunities: What external factors can you leverage for growth?
Threats: What challenges do you face from competitors or market changes?
Step 5: Develop Competitive Positioning
Understanding your competitive positioning is crucial for differentiating your organization in the marketplace.
Value Proposition: Define what makes your products or services unique and why customers should choose you over competitors.
Step 6: Outline Strategic Initiatives
Strategic initiatives are the specific actions and projects that will help you achieve your goals. Each initiative should have:
Objectives: What you hope to achieve with the initiative.
Action Steps: A detailed plan outlining how you will implement the initiative.
Resources Required: Identify the resources (people, budget, technology) needed to execute the initiative.
Step 7: Establish Metrics and KPIs
To measure the effectiveness of your strategy, it’s essential to establish clear metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Performance Indicators: Identify the metrics that will help you evaluate success, such as sales growth, market share, or customer satisfaction.
Step 8: Plan for Review and Adjustments
A successful business strategy is not static; it requires regular review and adjustments.
Review Schedule: Establish a timeline for regularly evaluating progress and performance.
Feedback Mechanisms: Implement processes for gathering feedback from stakeholders and team members to inform adjustments.
Conclusion
A well-designed business strategy template is a powerful tool that can bring clarity and direction to your organization. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can develop a comprehensive strategy that aligns with your vision and mission, addresses market challenges, and capitalizes on growth opportunities. Remember, the business world is constantly changing and flexibility is essential. Regularly reviewing and updating your strategy will ensure you respond to change and keep your organization successful. With a solid business strategy template in hand, you can achieve your business goals and thrive in the competitive market.
