i get that karl urban is a beefcake but bones is not a fighter, ok? he's not violent, he's not getting into bar fights, he's not physically strong, he barely knows how to shoot a phaser, he's not working out at the gym, he's not punching people. it doesn't matter if bones is being played by deforest kelley or karl urban - he'd lose an arm wrestling match against an eight year old.
leonard mccoy is barely passable in a fight and fighting would be his last resort anyways. the man is a staunch pacifist. don't let his grumpy nature fool you into thinking otherwise.
some aos fics tend to write mccoy as a badass action hero-esque army doctor and that's just not him. leonard "just an old country doctor" mccoy is not john wicking it up in a crisis. he's gonna throw a wimpy punch that's gonna miss and then get his ass wiped. i'm sorry. it's just how he is and i love that about him. literally every other tos character throws down more than bones.

here’s a random monday night thought for you. i’ve been rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation stuff (specifically First Contact today) and i just have one question.. did Data actually whore himself out to the Borg Queen just so she would keep on believing he was on her side?

Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou
Star Trek: Section 31
I don't care what anyone thinks I adore this movie. Michelle was having so much fun! She got to be super flirty, sexy and playful. She loves Georgiou so much it makes my heart sing. The fact that one of my all time favorite actress is in my all time favorite fandom and she cherishes it so much makes me gleeful beyond words. I will love every second I get Georgiou because every second is a personal gift from Michelle.

I feel like I have said this before but Star Trek Into Darkness was my introduction to the world of Star Trek.
I was freshly sixteen, finishing up my sophomore year of high school and in a standard American chemistry class. my teacher was a super cool lady, a doctor in chem and a massive TOS nerd. She jokingly made our homework assignment to go see Star Trek Into Darkness when it came out in May of 2013.
At that time in my life I was going to the movies with my best friend all the time. I was like, hey let's go see this movie and she agreed because Chris Pine is hot and Benedict Cumberbatch is was one of our favorites back then.
I have never seen the 2009 movie. I have seen bits and pieces of the original series from when my mom watched reruns on TV but it never really spoke to me. I wasn't exactly interested in the Star Trek aspect of it, more so the hot guys and the knowledge that it would make my teacher very happy.
There wasn't a second of that movie I didn't love. I left such a fan of all of the characters, with Spock having a special place in my heart (that remains to this day).
I dunno why I started writing this. I feel like the alternate original movies get a lot of shit sometimes but I really think they did a good job considering what they had to work with.
Star Trek Into Darkness especially. To have a 16 year old girl with absolutely no knowledge of the world on the edge of her seat, watching each scene with total interest, I dunno. It takes a lot to make a movie that is able to stand on its own like that and I think that it deserves that recognition.
For a film that is almost 11 years old now too, it's really stood the test of time.

So i just watched Star Trek: The undiscovered country and in a way, this is my list favorite Star Trek film.
It's a wonderful movie no doubt about it. It's essentially a murder mistery/political thriller taking place in space and it's SO WELL DONE. Alas,it is also goodbye.
TOS despite it's problems (and it has a lot, season 3 I'm looking at you) is my favorite era of Star Trek. It's a fitting goodbye, I'm glad they got to end it with this beautiful piece of art but still...parting is such a sweet sorrow indeed.
Farewell for now. Live long and prosper.🖖

it’s such a shame that so much media was focused on creating a weird geek vs nerd dynamic which also became a Star Wars vs Star Trek argument because I’m rewatching the original 3 right now and it’s so clear that both series were doing entirely different types of sci-fi. They explored similar often overlapping themes but the universes feel entirely different and were clearly going for different things? Which makes it feel like media & critics really saw two sci-fi franchises with Star in the title and said we must make them opposing interests!!!! what a dumb idea!
It almost makes me wish they’d have called Alien Star Beast like they originally intended just to see if we could get her into the debate as well.

#starlight fandom#starlight trek#LOOK I KNOW THEY AREN’T GOOD MOVIES THEY WERE IF MARVEL HIT STAR TREK WITH A BASEBALL BAT BEHIND A CLUB#BUT AOS GOT ME INTO STAR TREK IN THE FIRST PLACE OKAY IT HAS A PLACE IN MY HEART FOREVER#AND IT’S NOT AOS!JIM’S FAULT THAT THEY WROTE HIM BAD I ACTUALLY THINK ITS REAL INTERESTING#TO SEE A VERSION OF JIM KIRK THAT’S TRAUMATIZED AND FUCKED UP AND DIDN’T HAVE A FATHER AND YET HE STILL ENDS UP COMPASSIONATE#HE STILL ENDS UP A LEADER AND KIND#like fr tho that’s a fascinating concept#how much things may be different and how Spock!prime broke the timeline by melding with aos!kirk#and Kirk still ends up kind and loving and beloved anyway!!!!!#like I’m sorry they didn’t execute well until beyond and honestly I ignore stid entirely but it’s such a cool concept to me#and Karl urban as bones was so. SO. SO GOOD. he was perfect and deranged in the best way#Quinto-Spock I can take or leave but I do love me a bitchy Vulcan and he did have that#it’s okay to not like aos I don’t blame anyone for not liking it but I am so fond of it folks I truly am#and I’m not just saying that b/c the fic I’m writing rn for comfort and therapy reasons is projecting my current issues on aos!kirk#he’s just really to project onto and he looks like he’d benefit from ketamine treatment too and learning how to have hobbies w/o stress#anyway like I said I don’t blame anyone for disliking it or erasing it from their fandom memory#but it got me into Star Trek and I’m grateful and if ppl weren’t cowards aos!kirk would be so fucking fascinating in a feral way

Fun thing I like to do if I make an oc specifically for the tos or the aos timeline is to imagine what their counterpart is like
I have an older oc who’s been established in their career for awhile and they were made specifically for tos? Gotta imagine what they’re like as a younger person just starting out at their career (and if any of the timeline changes affected them at all)
And vice versa
