Gifted With Mediocrity

Perhaps there's a danger to telling kids that they are gifted or special. Because it could lead them down a path of self-hating mediocrity.

It will never be enough, will it? As a child, I experienced several instances where I was made to feel “special” or “gifted” in some way. This inevitably (over)inflated my ego and I built up these big dreams for what I’d accomplish with my life. I’d be rich and famous and renowned and respected. But the boys had Christmas events at the pizzaplex #They helped the children draw Christmas trees to show their parents. Helped the little ones make ornaments to put in their trees at home #They had to advertise for the Christmas specials through the plex #So when they finally had the freedom to choose how to spend their holidays #the boys decided they wanted to give it a go themselves #if only to see what it was all about. Thinking about ambrosia not working for Jason Grace in Blood of Olympus because he hasn’t figured out where he belongs and who he wants to be yet. Thinking about him figuring it out, and, before anything else he decides to be, him stating that his home is wherever Piper and Leo are.

Thinking about him taking ambrosia after the Gaia fight, not sure if it will even work. Thinking maybe it’ll be a mix of his favorite foods from CHB and Camp Jupiter, or maybe that it’ll switch.

Thinking about Jason, utterly devastated about what happened to Leo, taking ambrosia for the first time in ages, and it does work, but instead of tasting like any of the foods from either camp it tastes like the tacos Leo made for them on that first mission in the sewer.

shiv's motivations for voting to pass the gojo deal are so layered and i don't think they should be dismissed in favour of any one interpretation. shiv desperately grabbed on to a lifeline for her relationship with tom. shiv was the deciding vote and she couldn't bear to hold the crown only for a moment just to place it atop her brother's head. shiv knew she would have more influence as wife of CEO rather than sister of CEO. shiv absolutely hated seeing kendall crystallize into logan before her eyes, especially when he made roman bleed ("and if we did kill him we get to go to bed") -- succession has always been about siblings so of course she tried to free her brothers before her child. shiv still thinks she can raise her child with all the material benefits of being the daughter of waystar CEO while doing better by her, whatever that means. and all of those things are true
