It's been a little while since I've made a poll, so I'm going to shake off the dust with a simpler question (although choosing an answer to this one is probably anything but simple for mystery fans.)
This is mostly oriented towards live action mystery/crime TV series, I'll probably do a later poll for animated shows or anime.
I can't possibly fit every series worth a shoutout in the 12 options Tumblr allows per poll, so please let me know your favorites in the tags and comments if it's not listed here. :)
Please reblog for a larger sample size, thank you!

Tbh I feel like a lot of people who believe Lucy and Cooper will have a dad-daughter relationship are just placing the Joel-Ellie filter on them because they're another male-female apocalyptic duo and aren't actually considering the characters and where they are in their lives right now. Cooper didn't lose a daughter like Joel did. He has one, who he's currently looking for. There's no daughter-shaped crater in him that needs to be healed. As for Lucy, unlike Ellie, she isn't in need of a father figure in her life. She has a dad, who she had a great relationship with up until the truth was revealed. She is a well adjusted girlie, no daddy issues present. If anything, it's her mother that's the sore spot. Especially considering the fate she had.

honestly you can’t enjoy detective shows without suspending your belief in reality sometimes because they’ll really be like “the victim went to starbucks every other Tuesday, but they went to dunkin this Tuesday, so clearly the murderer is the afternoon shift manager at dunkin who is secretly the victim’s illegitimate half sister twice removed and they killed the victim to get the massive inheritance they didn’t know existed because their father was secretly a billionaire spy assassin and told no one. also the franchise owner of this coffee shop is committing tax fraud so call the IRS too” and all of the side characters are like “UGH of COURSE how did we miss it!!!?”

In another world, Lassiter is a divorced high school teacher and his students are Shawn and Gus, who are the most overactive and troublesome students in his class (yes Gus too) yet covers for them whenever they mess up.

I’m christening a new term within fandom: Schrödinger’s Canon.
Schrödinger’s Canon (n.): something that is both simultaneously canon and not canon.
An example of Schrödinger’s Canon can be deleted scene or a comment made from an official creator of the piece of media.
Tumblr media
This tweet from the official account of the psych writer’s room would be considered Schrödinger’s Canon.
Another example could be the comments made by the showrunner of Hannibal confirming that Will and Hannibal’s relationship is, in fact, queer, despite the series ending before any explicitly queer content was included.
I believe that the deleted scene with Eddie and Chris today is Schrödinger’s Canon.

[Zeus, up to his regular, no-good shenanigans] Zeus: Behind every great man is a great woman. Zeus: And in my case, that woman is an intelligent, sophisticated, full-foreheaded stallion named Odin. Odin: ?? Zeus: And she's a wizard. And she can dance. Zeus: I need you on this, buddy. Odin: Odin: Fine.

My subspecialty, i guess you could call it, is chronic pain - i did my master's thesis on sleep disorders in patients with chronic pain - so i've got a LOT of thoughts about the concept of 'stealing pain' in teen wolf.
The current definition of pain is
"an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage"
because pain is not purely a physical phenomenon, it's an experience not necessarily tied to any physical damage.
Of course you can delve into the different types of pain and argue that nociceptive and neuropathic pain is due to biochemical triggers (inflammation/tissue damage and nerve damage, respectively) as opposed to nociplastic pain - but even those are heavily modulated by how we perceive them.
In one of my psych classes we were shown a powerful example: In a segment from a local news station a lady had won a competition and as a reward she got a handful of minutes to 'empty out' a kitchen supply store - after all the excitement was done and she was being interviewed post-haul, suddenly a bystander points out that she's standing in a large puddle of blood. She'd dropped a knife into her foot at some point, resulting in a quite large gash. She'd felt nothing until someone pointed it out - endorphins, adrenaline, the works. (She was immediately attended to and recovered completely).
Studies show that pain perception increases dramatically in young, healthy subjects who were sleep-deprived even just for 24 hrs, and in the same vein stress, anxiety and distress also increases pain perception.
So where does that leave the idea of stealing pain in teen wolf? Rather than taking a physical representation of 'pain', maybe it's more stealing the perception of pain, the fear and distress?
Kind of a romantic notion, isn't it?
