Just watched I saw the tv glow. I need to write an essay on how blood in the bayou is a beautiful and horrifying metaphor for being queer and how the true horror is not bug monsters eating your friends and family, it’s losing yourself and never being willing to accept who you truly are or move on from the expectations people set for you. Yes these two are related.

Thinking about how Kian has never really had anyone to rely on. His parents were drug addicts and cultists, he couldn’t rely on them for support as a child. Rand’s parents (and Donna especially) might have tried to help him the best they could, but it wasn’t like they could offer him the full support he needed, not when they had their own two children to take care of (and especially not acter they only had one). Dickman clearly tried to help him the best he could, but by then Kian had given up on receiving help or support from adults and was a teenager just desperate to prove himself, who probably only saw his teacher’s advice as pity or a lack of belief in him. Rolan and Rand loved him, but both were too unstable to really give him the support he needed. He had Becky, but then she was sent away, and did he feel like he could even rely on her emotionally when he was the guy in the relationship?

He spent a decade and a half alone in LA. Even if he made any friends, he’d already internalized that he couldn’t be helped. Any relationships he had were too surface level for him to tell them about his struggles. How many times was he hurt, attacked, assaulted, before he accepted that no stranger was willing to step in and lend him a hand? Did it only take a single time, or did he hold out hope that someone would save him? He’d learnt from a young age that he was on his own. That he had to carry his burdens for himself. And Hollywood only proved that even further.

It all shows so clearly in the actual campaign. It’s not a coincidence that he patched himself up after the crash instead of asking for help. Or that he made sure Rolan got looked after in the hospital before him even though he had less HP. Or that he left Dickman behind when going to see Becky. He was so sure that nobody was going to protect or take care of him anyways, that he didn’t even bring himself to ask for it until he was already dead.

So it has been a year since I posted the first chapter of BITB boys get therapy (not really) on AO3. It's absolutely insane to me that it has been a whole year, and I'm so so grateful for every single kudos, comment, and bookmark and everything else. I really did not expect all the kindness and the absolutely wonderful community I've gotten to be a part of since starting this series, and it still is so insane to me that there are so many people who read and enjoy my fics where I just go fucking insane over these guys lol.

There has also been a lot of bad over this past year, typical stupid fandom drama, personal mental health issues, and whatever else, but overall, I am so grateful and so excited to keep writing this series and I hope people also keep enjoying it! Thank you all once again for everything <3
