Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder :: PMDD
It’s taken me almost 20 yrs. to finally realize living with PMDD is the same as living with a chronic illness. Now that I’m perimenopause, my PMDD has gotten worse due to the more irregular hormonal changes. No more one period a month now. 😖😭😵💫😵

Yeah, PMDD is…..something I just have to do my best to daily manage. I’m incredibly grateful that my treatments give me the support I need to live a fulfilling life. No life is without its struggles. I’ve chosen to strive forward and life my best life! 💖 One day at a time!!!

hey to any AFAB people who don’t have bad physical symptoms during their period but still feel like death, get checked for PMDD.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. It’s much more common in AFAB people with ADHD. Same thing with post partum depression. the brain doesn’t give out happy chemicals well normally, so when the PMS hits, it gets worse
If you deal with fatigue, depressive episodes, bouts of sensitivity, anger, moodiness or the like, a loss in interests and/or a loss in energy during your period and/or in the week before and/or after the period, talk to your doctor.
you aren’t alone. it will be ok. people like you, and i promise. it is ok to feel like this.
You will be ok.

tips to caring for littles who suffer from:
pmdd ( premenstrual dysphoric disorder )
and chronic illnesses
Req by @bumble-bxbe
• if your little suffers from pmdd, understand right away that they may be feeling a lot of painful things right now. Both mentally and physically.
• offer support, cuddles, affection, etc. During this time, your baby may need more reassurance than usual.
• try to reduce stress. Stress can make symptoms of pmdd worse, so stepping in and placing in rules to take time for meditation, breathing exercises, etc.
• encourage your baby to eat well. A healthy diet of grains, fruits, and vegetables plus lots of water can help ease pain.
• occasionally, people may be fine taking supplements, and vitamins can help with pmdd. Just make sure it is safe for you little to do so.
• try to keep track of your littles menstrual cycle, possibly using period tracker app (be careful if american due to current political affairs) or by writing down notes.
• if possible, using a heating pad or a warm water bottle on a cramp may help ease it or let it become somewhat more tolerable.
• during flair ups of chronic illness, focus on managing your littles rest. It helps skip time of the pain and let your body relax a little.
• if possible, move your little around yourself, and or encourage gentle and careful movements.
• try to distract them with activities, pacing them to not hurt themselves further and applying heat or cold packs if needed.
• keep a flare-up journal of your babys symptoms and identify triggers of such.
• if medicated, encourage your little one to take medications as required. And reward them for being brave.
• if your little is comfortable with it, you may pour them a hot bath, help them wash their body, and soak themselves. Include toys and bubbles!
• offer to massage an area of tension for your little, this may help with the pain.
• most important, just be there for them. This time is extremely hard for your little, so consider their feelings and be gentle. You're doing a great job.
I'm not a doctor, nor am I sure this is all super helpful. I tried my best to provide some good tips, and I hope the original requester is feeling better since their og ask. Take care everyone - Miss Piggie<3

If your periods/menstrual cycle correlate with
- Depressive Episodes
- Self Harm
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Severe or Increased Anxiety
- Sudden or Intense Mood Changes
Please consider asking your medical practitioner about Premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I had no idea that the emotions I was feeling were beyond the regular levels. I was always told by media that periods made you irrational, emotional, and even depressed. While it is true that many of us who menstruate will have those side effects, they should not ever be severe. If they cause you significant distress you may be struggling with something different. I found out only after my periods were stopped by testosterone that I was never supposed to suffer that much. If you may be experiencing this speak up, you aren’t alone and you have options!

What are your experiences?
ok this is gonna be a pretty specific/niche question I think but
does anyone else who has both autism and PMDD find that their sensory issues get way worse during their period??
It seems that way to me, though I couldn't find any research on it ((because god forbid any professionals actually care about studying autism in afab individuals ahaha. hah.))

Kinda niche, but I've spent the last five days feeling like I'm losing my mind so here are some PMDD memes. However bad you think it is based on these memes, it's worse.

one of the worst things about having PMDD is how embarrassing it is. like, I know I’m going to Not Be Me for part of the month. I think I’m ready for it, that I’m prepared and this time, I’ll be in control! and then in the moment, the world is ending. everyone hates me. I’m paranoid. there are tears. there’s rage. my mood swings around in a whole damn circle. and then my period comes and I’m fine and sane again!

❤️🩹 my take on a PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) flag 🧠
clipart .png credit
i had been waiting from months to a year to see someone design a flag for PMDD since i'm not very confident in my own ability, so i decided to go ahead and bite the bullet with an attempt. this is currently planned to just be a draft and may be subject to change with new updated versions in the future.
TW FOR MEDICAL TRAUMA/ABUSE: although this topic is not very widely discussed, or at least doesn't seem to be commonly present, online among the disabled community, my personal experiences with PMDD have made acknowledging its existence as well as its consequences quite necessary to me. as of the time of writing this, i am 19 years old, and when i was 15 exactly this time of year (as well as the first similar incident a couple months prior), i had an intense hyper-emotional episode the week before my period that was so bad i ended up getting institutionalized at a psych ward against my will and have never been the same since. for years now, i've been on a birth control pill that suppresses my cyclical hormones and prevents my period from occurring most of the time.
before getting into the stripes' meanings, there are two factors to explain behind my thought process:
dark teal is considered to be the awareness color for this disorder, although i went with a light aqua color because i think it looks better with the pink, and it's in the same family so i believe it still works.
pink is meant not to represent femininity necessarily since uterus-owners can come in many different gender expressions, but rather fit with the vibe of internal organs, especially since pink is closely related to red which is how warm blood appears (and is a key element of uterine cycles).
as for the stripe meanings, here is my proposal for each single word:
awareness ─ suffering from premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a very real thing that happens to müllerian individuals everywhere. according to the cleaveland clinic, which i am an active visiting patient of, about 10% of people with our reproductive body types who are at least of minimum pubescent age may be affected by it. although it does not tend to be a risk toward physical health, it is often a deadly threat to our mental state and well-being, which can lead to suicidal ideation.
strength ─ i consider this to be an invisible disability, with most of the symptoms taking place within our internal worlds and fighting a constant battle with negative thoughts + emotions. in addition to this, physical symptoms also arise and can cause severe discomfort before menstruation even begins. all of this happens within the confines of our own homes, and we tend to suffer through it alone. people who do not have PMDD probably fail to realize how strong we have to be in order to get through this difficult time repeatedly & endlessly, despite their well-intended efforts.
diversity ─ this is intended to have multiple meanings, and to include anything i may not have come up with so far. for one thing, there are plenty of different experiences to be had with this disorder, such as varying levels of cramping + sickness or depression + anxiety. on another note, not only do our bodies each work differently (some may also have endometriosis and/or PCOS, which are also intersex conditions, as a double-whammy), but many of us do not conform to societal ideas of gender despite all having these parts in common. there are infinite possibilities to mix & match with presentation & identity, which is not limited by biology.
flesh ─ although many factors are involved in this process, including hormones, PMDD centers around the uterus, which is an internal organ. the flesh represents the physical aspects of this experience, and how we must take great care of our bodies in order to ease how we feel.
pain ─ there is so much physical + mental pain that builds around this disorder, which deserves to be recognized, sympathized with, and treated. the deep pink (to me) somewhat resembles what ibuprofen & benadryl pills look like; painkillers & antihistamines respectively (i'm not sure if anyone else needs the latter, but my skin's condition gets really reactive when i go through my cycle).
anyone is free to reblog/use accordingly, although you may have to be mindful of permission/credit with the uterus imagery from the source!
tagging for reach (it may not fit your gimmick exactly, so feel free to ignore if you're uninterested, or reblog somewhere else!): @idwl @satyrradio @spaghettimakesflags @obnebulant-mogai @caeliangel @intervex @arco-pluris @beyond-mogai-pride-flags @radiomogai @themogaidragon @neopronouns @mad-pride @disabilitypride

I was recently diagnosed with an incredibly rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a genetic mutation on the PPP2R1A gene. The disorder is so rare it doesn't have a fancy name yet 😅 the worst symptoms of my disorder is the mental illnesses I deal with. Add onto that childhood abuse targeted at me because of my undiagnosed issues and I got the shit storm of mental health.
I have been diagnosed with C-PTSD, ADHD, OCD, PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), Borderline Personality Disorder, Excoriation Disorder (severe skin picking), and Sensory Processing Disorder. Informally diagnosed as Autistic.
My entire life, I just thought I was a broken human being. Turns out I just have a genetic disorder that literally causes me to lose my mind 🤣 I always knew that mental illnesses liked to come in groups, but I got hit with the one-two punch that has left me unable to function on my own

One of the scary things about pmdd for me was the way it can make you doubt yourself, your perception of yourself and your mental health, because if you don't know what's going on, you might just experience it as you being consumed by the darkness for a week or two, but then it's over, so you can easily convince yourself that you are fine actually, especially if your periods are very irregular like mine were. While I was going through it, I would have never thought to go to the doctor because I just wasn't thinking rationally and my self-esteem was so low, I probably didn't even think I deserved to eat much less see a doctor, and I'd fully blame myself for everything I was feeling. Then when it was over, I felt much better in comparison so I didn't feel like I needed to go to the doctor. Genuinely such an evil disorder. It made school and university hell, almost ended my relationship with my partner multiple times and cost me friendships and multiple jobs. All while I didn't even know it was a thing.
