Needless to say when Severus found out he made Lockhart's last year a living hell.

The three from Slytherin cabin threw their arms up and cheered. 

“Wait, what?!” Snape spat. “That’s our stool!” James pushed his way to the front of the crowd. 

“Mr Dumbledore, that isn’t their stool. It’s ours,” He gestured to the rest of them. Albus peered down at both stools. 

“They do look very similar, but I’m afraid I’ve lost track of whose is whose,” Albus said apologetically. 

To everyone’s surprise, Peter piped up.

“Flip it over,” He shouted over the excited crowd. Albus picked up the stool and looked at the bottom of it. 

“Peter woz ere!” He read aloud. 

“Ha, see it’s ours!” Peter squeaked triumphantly. 

Remus had to quickly wrap his arms around Sirius to stop his storming over to Mulciber and the others. 

“Sirius, don’t, it’s not worth it.” He struggled to keep hold of Sirius, he wasn’t as strong as Sirius was. 

Something flashed past him and on instinct he tightened his right arm around Sirius and shot his left out to catch what was rushing by. His hand wrapped around the back of Snape’s jumper. He dragged him back, away from his cabin mates. 

He was beginning to sweat with the force it took to keep them there. His body shook and Sirius stopped fighting. All his anger seemed to have left him and, instead of trying to get away, he started trying to calm Snape down. 

“Sev, stop, you’re hurting Remus.” Snape stopped fighting him.

“Maybe they got confused about which one was theirs like Albus did,” Remus suggested, glad they’d settled down as he was exhausted. Sirius brushed Remus’s damp hair off his forehead and took his hand. 

“Sorry, sweetheart. We can go hang out in the cabin after this, okay?” Sirius said sweetly, rubbing his thumb across Remus’s knuckles. Remus sighed, glad that Sirius could read him so well. 

“Well, it seems that Gryffindor cabin and Mr Snape have won this competition. Congratulations boys.” Dumbledore announced. A round of booing went around the hall. 

“Why do they always win?”

“I swear they must cheat! Nobody can win this much every year!”

“They only won because of Snape!”

“Enough!” McGonagall’s voice rang out over the protesting. “They win because they work together and utilise each person’s strengths. You could all do to learn from them and actually give them some competition for once,” 

“Yes, yes.” Dumbledore cut across her. “Well done boys. Now as for your prize,” McGonagall leant over and whispered in his ear. His fluffy eyebrows shot up.

“As all of you are on chores your prize will be,” He paused for dramatic effect. “NO MORE CHORES!!!” He cheered loudly, raising his arms above his head. “You may join in with all daily activities for the rest of your stay.”

“Woohoo!” Sirius and James cried together. 

“Yes, yes, well done, well done. Right, everybody, you can get back to your fun. The sun is out, the lake is cool. Go enjoy yourselves!” Dumbledore waved them out of the main hall. “But you don’t want to burn so make sure you apply lots of sunscreen,” He called after them all.  

They waited for James and Peter to come over to them and followed the crowd outside.

“Remus and I are going to lie down for a bit. What are you guys going to do?” Sirius asked the others. 

“I might join you,” James yawned. “All that washing, mopping and wiping has wiped me out,” He snickered at his own joke. 

“Me too,” Peter said, stretching out his sore muscles.

They walked back to their cabin and realised Snape wasn’t with them. 

“Hey, Sev, where you going?” James shouted at Snape, who was slumping off towards the forest. He looked up, scowling at them. 

“You’re all going into your cabin.” 

“Yeah, come on then,” Sirius waved his hand towards the cabin. 

“I want to lie down and I’m pretty sure there are only four beds in there,” Snape replied glumly. 

“Sirius and I are sharing,” Remus smiled mischievously. “You can have Sirius’s bed. Now come on and get over here and stop sulking, you look like a right git.” Remus dragged Sirius inside, having used up the last of his energy and needing to lie down badly.  

Snape rolled his eyes but followed them all in and made himself at home on Sirius’s bed.

Hello, what do you think about the fact that Muggles are discriminated against in the Harry Potter saga? For me the term muggle is...... derogatory but I want to know your opinion.

Hello anon!

I don't mind the term 'muggle'. Just like I don't mind the term 'mudblood'. It's simply part of the lingo in the wizarding world and helps us understand the culture. It's convenient to have a word for non-magical people.

The problem is when muggles are so looked down upon that it becomes a slur, akin to mudblood. It certainly sounds like a slur when Hagrid says it.

JKR wants me to believe mugglebornes like Hermione or Lily are the ultimate victims of the WW but that's total BS. And the issue is not even that muggles are being discriminated against. The issue is that JKR keeps downplaying all the bigotry and harm muggles and other magical creatures experience, make it into a joke or completely ignore it altogether.

It's a problem when the DEs attack the Roberts family in book 4. But the ministry constantly mind raping Mr Roberts is A+. Especially when we consider how messed up Bertha was by constant mind spells. Why were the Roberts even at a wizarding event in the first place!

When the Weasleys, Hagrid or Dumbledore invade the Dursleys' privacy, we are meant to feel smug that the Dursleys are being shown their place. But as abusive and horrible as they are, they don't deserve for their property to be destroyed and Dudley doesn't deserve to be traumatized by wizards.

Hermione mind wipes her parents and I don't recall her friends even batting an eye. Curious how Hermione is one of Harry's best friends yet we know more about Neville and Draco's parents than Hermione's...I wonder why???

It's honestly terrifying when you think about it. The wizards have free reign in the muggle world. The DEs are attacking in book 6 and the muggles in Britain can't even know what's attacking them.

In a nutshell, I don't have a problem with discrimination - I have an issue with how JKR handles and resolves it.

Also, we know wizards have a practical reason for distrusting muggles which is the witch trials...or at least they did. JKR made a mockery of the trials by saying wizards pretended to be burning on the stake and they were merely chilling :). So...what's the issue here? JKR made wizardkind even bigger pricks than they already were lol.

PS: The statute of secrecy is a joke. Either there needs to be some form of integration. Or we do like Draco said in book 1 and the wizards are completely cut off from the muggle world.

Okay, Albus telling Harry that Scorpius was the most important person in his life was obviously like really romantic and a big deal BUT!!! What hits harder for me is "He might ALWAYS be the most important."

Because like, when you're 14, your best friend being the most important person in your life makes sense and isn't inherently romantic. But as an adult?? A lot of the time when people get older the most important people in their life are their nuclear families. LIKE YOUR SPOUSE😱😱😱. (Unless you are not interested in romance or marriage of course)

Albus CoS: Hm... I don't have many DADA teacher options this year... I can't ask the Ministry to supply someone, they suck - and I can't ask the Governors to pick someone, they're headed by Malfoy...

Well, I suppose could spin Gilderoy into a good learning experience for Harry: After his burst of fame last year I worry he might grow a big head, like I did after my first year. I can't teach him that lesson... it must be scared out of him early so it doesn't fester.

Gilderoy makes Severus look exceptionally good, which is necessary. It will teach Harry which adults he can trust, since he struggled with that so much last year... I wish he would trust me but I can't force that. I must give him space and try to foster it slowly. Besides, it's for the best if I don't start to care for the boy on a personal level. That has never ended well.

I'll keep my distance, but make sure to tell him he can share anything with me, that he is a good boy I support - and that help will always come to him if he asks for it. To talk to the teachers he trusts. To know that he is supported even if I am not here. That should do. He wishes to be a little independent... but last time I let that independence truly flourish in a boy it went quite badly. This time I will put more pressure upon relying on others.

-- He comes back to the school to find out Harry didn't seek any adult help - planned to get Minerva's help but TURNED TO GILDEROY INSTEAD, Went off on his own to face certain death WITH GILDEROY AS A PRISONER All because he had a feeling 'he was the only one who could' Then, right after this traumatic experience, still covered in blood and slime - he wants to go and do something cheeky to Lucius Malfoy - a man that outranks Albus in most ways -- Albus outwardly: "Well I'm glad it all went well in the end. Now don't take too long and forget about the feast, alright?"

Albus inwardly: Holy shit this kid is so fucking cool. How does he do it? How does he defy every expectation I have? How does he do the opposite of what I think is best and thoroughly prove me wrong? FUCK he's cool. He's like me :^) But BETTER than me. WOW. He doesn't even have that big a head about it. Astounding.

...He really needs a role model who can show him love, he isn't learning this 'please for gods sake trust adults sometimes' lesson - I gotta take the risk and go find Remus for next year...

chapter 37 of the Order of the Phoenix & Love

chapter 37 takes place immediately after harry returns from fighting death eaters and resisting voldemort's possession in the ministry. it takes place immediately after sirius black falls through the veil.

dumbledore finally decides to tell harry the truth of the prophecy and explain the reasoning behind his actions of the last fifteen years. why did he leave harry with his aunt and uncle, to ten years of abuse? he explains:

dumbledore is speaking, of course, of love. love is the ancient magic that lily invokes to save harry, that petunia and dumbledore invoke to protect him after lily's death.

this magic is powerful, perhaps the most powerful, and voldemort's fatal flaw is that he routinely underestimates the power of love. this brings his downfall.

as dumbledore explains his plan to harry, he points out his own missteps, his own flaws.

he cared for harry. he loved harry, and in doing so he acted in a way voldemort could predict and thwart. this is said just a page or two after dumbledore points out that voldemort's flaw is underestimating the power of love. and yet dumbledore's flaw is loving harry too much? is there such a thing as too much love, when lily's unending love for harry protects him fourteen years after her death? is this not dumbledore underestimating love, and using it in half measures, relegating it to the weakness that voldemort expects?

near the end of the chapter dumbledore returns to explaining the power of love:

love is the most powerful force in the world, according to dumbledore, but also his flaw. is this not a contradiction? does dumbledore fear love because it's out of his own control, beyond human intelligence, wonderful and terrible?

like voldemort, dumbledore trusts few people. he speaks to the power of love, yes, but like voldemort he underestimates it's power through being unwilling to wield it himself. dumbledore and voldemort's plans and machinations are interrupted more than once by lily and harry's ability to love. they underestimate lily and harry's powers, draws in on themselves, and trust no one, and they fail.

dumbledore cannot break himself of his fear of love and inability to trust others until his death. i wonder who besides harry may have survived if he could have
