Fic idea: Aang is tasked with finding a missing fire spirit, only to realise that the spirit is needed for an important festival tomorrow

To buy time, someone needs to pretend to be the missing fire spirit. And who else to ask but a descendent of Agni himself? Whether the Fire Royals actually are/aren't direct descendants of Agni is debatable, but they smell different to normal firebenders, enough to briefly pull off the disguise.

the little sniff before he carries on talking like he’s already been crying. the trashing of the office afterwards. their friendship is something that can be so important to me

Thankfully, his ex-girlfriend, Keeley, is a PR wizard and has an idea to get Roy enough media attention that fans demand Roy gets minutes: a fake relationship with someone famous and beautiful, i.e. recent Lust Conquers All-reject Jamie Tartt. The only problem is that, all too soon, Roy's trapped in a fake relationship with perhaps the only person he's ever truly wanted something real with.
