Being jurgen leitner the day that gerry almost killed him was probably really surreal. Imagine you’re minding your business, collecting fucked up books, and out of nowhere this goth guy covered in eye tattoos shows up and beats you half to death, then stops, goes, “no you’re too pathetic to be jurgen leitner” and leaves without further elaboration. And you dont correct him, you like being alive after all, and after that you just… continue with your life. And then several years later you tell this to some random guy in the tunnels you’ve been hiding in, and he not only knows who the goth was, but seems somewhat fond of the goth. And then you get brutal pipe murdered by the random guy’s boss. Oops

Another old doodle originally posted to twitter. I will say, my Shen Qingqiu design has slightly changed since I drew this, but not enough for me to want to redraw it. =w=

Some notes about my designs:

There's actually not much to say about my designs themselves, as I feel like they're rather run of the mill. HOWEVER...

I have this little head canon that played a part in how I drew these,

The head canon is that Shen Jiu had RNF (Resting Nice Face).

And Shen Jiu learned early on to make his expression mean and cold, because it was a good tool to scare people away. And he never actually stopped, even after ascension. Partly because of habit, partly because he felt it was still necessary.

Shen Yuan, meanwhile, had the opposite problem and had RBF (Resting Bitch Face).

Shen Yuan learned to make himself look nicer and warmer, mainly because his parents pointed it out. His parents worried he'd struggle to make friends because of it, so he learned to do it in order to reassure them. Eventually he just got into the habit of changing his expression whenever he went out, and the habit followed him post transmigration.

As a result of these combined facts, after Shen Yuan transmigrates, Shen Qingqiu accidentally ends up looking much nicer.

When SQQ-Y uses his "lofty and unapproachable immortal" persona, he uses his resting face. Because he forgets to take into account the fact that while Shen Yuan's resting face made him look unapproachable, SQQ-J may not have been the same. So he never quite notices that his persona isn't as lofty and unapproachable as he believes it is. Not only that, but after breaking the OOC lock, it doesn't take long for SQQ-Y to accidentally get back into the habit of making his expression warmer whenever he goes out. He'll stop when it's pointed out, but otherwise he'll be out and about all happy looking and be none the wiser.

I like to think that if Shen Jiu transmigrated into Shen Yuan, he'd have a similar problem.

Except he'd accidentally(?) make himself look angry/scary af.

Ngl I think I hate performative girlbossification of female characters more than I hate people not including said female characters in their fan content. Actually I don't care at all if they're indifferent to her. Who gives a fuck. Like I'd respect it more if they're like "ngl I just don't give a shit about her" with their whole chest, rather than being like "OMG I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!! She's perfect, she's best girl, she kicks ass [never talks about her ever and only includes her as a prop to examine the male characters they DO like]" just because they're scared of getting called misogynistic. Like if you know in your heart that this character means nothing to you and you know you're not gonna do her justice, might as well just leave her out. But attempts to shoehorn her in, using your 2015-feminist style characterization is so weak, man.

one of the coolest parts of Dracula Daily that I've come to appreciate is seeing posts from new readers excited to read Dracula (Daily) for the first time! now that we're coming up on the 3rd (well, 4th technically) year of Dracula Daily, you'd kind of expect readership to just drop off now that people have had their fun (which is perfectly fine btw). and its like, that's definitely happening and no year will compare to DD2022 and DD2023 (which had the advantage of Re: Dracula beginning its 1st year), so its still surprising to see new readers come in. People have already discussed DracDaily as a refreshing counter to the culture of binging-then-forgetting media, but it really does get more apparent with each run. Something about the fact that there are still new people interested in joining it past the initial meme/novelty of it is just, really nice! DracDaily is still kinda in its early stages though, so we'll only know how the fandom survives in like DD2025 probably, when even Re: Dracula will be in its 3rd run.

can I say something is this a safe space. it's kind of fascinating that ford is meant to read as a deeply repressed character and a capital s Scientist no less but he leads this other half of his life entirely dedicated to the occult. in the 70's-80's. like the historical connotations of the occult and what they represented in the united states at least seems kind of interesting in this context. for no reason in particular I find the dual aspects of "extremely dedicated to presenting as a logical, steadfast researcher trying to earn respect and social acceptance to the point of hinging all of his self worth on this vision for the future working out" and "deeply tied to the paranormal and "unsavory black magic" and everything Weird/freakish but feels like he needs to hide this aspect of himself from even the people closest to him" Very interesting. hiding six-fingered hands compulsively behind his back even if it's the emblem he puts on his journals. "what are you attracted to?" and "maybe you're simply attracted to things that hurt you" from two different points in the book. sweet dreams (are made of this) on the record player. hey does anyone know what that tarot card with a snake on it is meant to represent
