Every younger sibling I know feels like they can’t do the older sibling’s “thing”. Older sibling is a soccer player? Can’t do that! Older sibling is a computer geek? Computers are now impossibly confusing. Older sibling likes star wars? Your only two options are star trek or to forgo science fiction altogether. I don’t know why this is the case but my guess is so that the younger sibling’s successes can’t be directly compared to the older one’s, which will probably be better because they’ve done it longer.

Now, I know Stan and Ford are twins and thus the same age. But I think something similar applies here: Stan couldn’t be a nerd because Ford got the title first. So he didn’t even try. Ford would always be smarter, so he embraced his other skills (of physical prowess and later scamming).

In order to rebuild the portal, Stan not only had to process his grief and guilt enough to do things, but also get over the feeling that math was “Ford’s thing” that he was “taking over”. He had to get over the “Ford’s the smart one” rhetoric. Stan gets way too little credit in the fandom for what he managed to pull off to bring Ford back, both mathematically/mentally, and emotionally.

Michael: it’s still automatic, but the part of michael that is something sort of like a “who” keeps being surprised by the hallway shapes it’s currently in. Not surprised enough to react, especially not after years of being michael, but still “huh, that’s a new one”

Helen: no longer automatic, but a lot more precise. Human-helen’s experience with real estate means she’s seen a lot of buildings and talked a lot of strangers into buying those buildings at a higher price than maybe they should have sold for. She makes sure that the design of the corridors is optimized in a way the distortion never quite bothered with

As much as i love ruminating on michael, i also love helen, because i see her as being the best of both human and spiral, able to use everything she has from both experiences in a way “existence tied to its pointlessness” michael never really could

Being jurgen leitner the day that gerry almost killed him was probably really surreal. Imagine you’re minding your business, collecting fucked up books, and out of nowhere this goth guy covered in eye tattoos shows up and beats you half to death, then stops, goes, “no you’re too pathetic to be jurgen leitner” and leaves without further elaboration. And you dont correct him, you like being alive after all, and after that you just… continue with your life. And then several years later you tell this to some random guy in the tunnels you’ve been hiding in, and he not only knows who the goth was, but seems somewhat fond of the goth. And then you get brutal pipe murdered by the random guy’s boss. Oops

One of my hobbies is doing things that dont line up with the holiday. Halloween? Draw sweet looking characters that nothing bad will happen to! Christmas? Listen to loud vocaloid that’s probably about murder or something but i dont speak japanese so idk, and scroll the bill cipher tag! Some random day in july? One time i left a persimmon in a bag for two months and only discovered it when my hand went through it. Very very unpleasant. Since then i have referred to the entire debacle as The Corruption Incident. I think the phenomenon as a whole can be described as a cross between Corruption and Dark. “There’s a thing there and it’s probably super gross but i really don’t want to know about or interact with it”
