Mina, tired out of her wits, dark circles, scar burning, pale, gathering maps and red strings and 956 papers: "[hacker voice] I'm in"

Jonathan, springing out of the sofa he had Collapsed on: *dip kiss her in front of everybody*

As is right.

Noticing a pattern with Jack Seward.

He observes Jonathan's hands a lot

"whilst [Jonathan's] face of white set passion worked convulsively over [Mina's] bowed head, the hands tenderly and lovingly stroked the ruffled hair."

"his hands are cold as ice, and an hour ago I found him whetting the edge of the great Ghoorka knife"

"It will be a bad lookout for the Count if the edge of that “Kukri” ever touches his throat, driven by that stern, ice-cold hand!"

"but at the same time his action belied his words, for his hands instinctively sought the hilt of the great Kukri knife and rested there."

"Quincey raised his eyebrows slightly and looked at her intently, whilst Harker's hand instinctively closed round the hilt of his Kukri."

Once with how tenderly he's stroking Mina's hair, the rest with how much he's sharpening/touching his knife with his icy hand.

Alternatively, Jonathan speaks with his hands a lot when he's silent. And they are either around his wife or around the hilt of his knife.

I like the breakdown of jobs today too. As fitting as everyone's reaction to the bad news, honestly, or at least in keeping with a lot of preexisting patterns.

Now let us organize. You, friend Arthur, go to the train and get the tickets and arrange that all be ready for us to go in the morning. Do you, friend Jonathan, go to the agent of the ship and get from him letters to the agent in Galatz, with authority to make search the ship just as it was here. Morris Quincey, you see the Vice-Consul, and get his aid with his fellow in Galatz and all he can do to make our way smooth, so that no times be lost when over the Danube. John will stay with Madam Mina and me, and we shall consult. For so if time be long you may be delayed; and it will not matter when the sun set, since I am here with Madam to make report." "And I," said Mrs. Harker brightly, and more like her old self than she had been for many a long day, "shall try to be of use in all ways, and shall think and write for you as I used to do.

Arthur gets transportation. He's bankrolling this, yes, but also once again getting people where they need to be.

Jonathan is once again the man on the ground getting the chance to follow the trail of the remaining box. Not to mention, he is acquiring documents.

Quincey is also a rich boy, so he goes to talk to the important people. He's charming too so that fits. But as much as we've been told he is a leader among the suitors, we also see him consistently try to support his friends however he can. In that way it makes sense for him to be the one who does the talking and fills in where needed.

Van Helsing lays down all of these directions in the first place. He takes action first and gives out the jobs. By staying behind himself he intends to try and figure out their enemy further. He directs the others and does research.

Jack doesn't exactly get a job of his own. But he is trusted by his fellow doctor in a way none of the others are, and so is invited to the planning session. As he has since the man first arrived, he follows along with Van Helsing while observing the situation.

Mina sort of gets the job of helping to consult here. But she's also being 'looked after' and seen as a resource to potentially spy on Dracula again, and it becomes clear she wasn't necessarily expected to understand the ideas being discussed without them being explained to her. However, we see her speak up her and later on in the discussion with the doctors (much more than Jack in fact), surprising Van Helsing with the extent of what she already knows. By deciding to take up her typing of documents again, as well as interpreting Dracula's likely next move, she makes plans and shares information.

They must separate due to the sheer void of other options. It is the one moment in the entire narrative where Jonathan cracks and becomes the only voice to chew out Van Helsing for his announcement that he's taking Mina along into Castle Dracula territory. It is the moment when, after all this hellish Limbo, Jonathan and Mina are pried apart for the first time since Jonathan's imprisonment in the castle, the two seemingly about to trade places. It is the moment when Jonathan, unable to stand guard over her himself, insists upon Mina taking her own revolver.

Mina tells her diary, supposedly set to be seen by the others someday if they manage the miracle, that it is for wolves. She knows better.

"Be not afraid for Madam Mina; she will be my care, if I may. I am old. My legs are not so quick to run as once; and I am not used to ride so long or to pursue as need be, or to fight with lethal weapons. But I can be of other service; I can fight in other way. And I can die, if need be, as well as younger men."

Jonathan knows better.

Protect yourself, my love. From whoever and whatever you must.

I have seen Takes saying that Jonathan Harker after October 3 becomes suddenly "macho equally to Quincey", that he "lost all his femininity", and is now just "the typical male hero saving the girl", and I'm like *points at this entire sequence of him writhing supine on the sofa and getting 'saved' by Mina once she takes charge and forms the entire plan and he gets so relieved he kisses her. on the mouth*
