Chapter 2: Slipping away
Chris was different after that day. It wasnât anything huge, at least not at first. But it was there. Maybe it was the way he checked his phone constantly, or how his attention seemed elsewhere even when sitting right next to you.
He was still Chris, still your best friend, but now there was her.
Avery.
The name alone made something in your chest tighten, though youâd never admit it.
At school, things felt almost normalâalmost. He still sat with you at lunch, still walked you to class, still stole food off your tray like always. But then there were the moments when he wasnât really there. Moments when youâd be talking, and his attention would drift to his phone, his face lighting up at whatever was on the screen.
It wasnât hard to guess who he was texting.
âShe surprised me with coffee this morning,â he announced suddenly, grinning.
You poked at your food. âWhat?â
âAvery,â he said, like it was obvious. âShe remembered my exact order. Down to the extra shot of espresso. How cute is that?â
Forcing a smile, you nodded. âThatâs nice.â
âSheâs just⊠different, you know?â His excitement spilled over as he leaned back in his seat. âIâve never met a girl like her. Sheâs so easy to talk to. She listens. She gets me.â
It was hard not to flinch at that. Hadnât you been the one listening to all his rants for years? Didnât you get him better than anyone?
Instead of saying that, you just nodded. âYeah, she seems great.â
He didnât notice the hesitation in your voice.
Lunch went on like thatâhim talking about Avery, you pretending it didnât bother you. Maybe it wouldnât have, if not for what happened later.
â
That night, a message from Chris popped up on your phone.
Chris: âMovie night? My place?â
Relief flooded through you. Finally. Things felt off lately, but this was normal. This was what the two of you did.
You: âDuh. Be there in 10.â
Grabbing some snacks and pulling on a hoodie, you made your way over, walking in without knockingâhis house had always been a second home.
Chris was already sprawled out on the couch, a bowl of popcorn in his lap, scrolling through Netflix.
âYou took forever,â he teased, tossing a piece of popcorn at you.
Rolling your eyes, you plopped down next to him. âItâs been ten minutes, drama queen.â
He chuckled, nudging your shoulder. âWhatever. What are we watching?â
Before you could answer, his phone buzzed. Just like that, his attention shifted.
He grinned at his screen, typing quickly.
Avery.
The knot in your chest tightened. âYou inviting her?â
âHuh?â
You motioned toward his phone. âAvery. Youâre texting her. Is she coming?â
âOh. Nah,â he said, still smiling. âSheâs at home. Just checking in.â
Checking in? Since when did he âcheck inâ with people?
âChris.â You nudged him. âMovie night. Put your phone down.â
He sighed but tossed it onto the coffee table. âFine, fine.â
For a while, things felt normal again. The two of you laughed at dumb scenes, threw popcorn at each other, argued over the plot. But then his phone buzzed again.
Chris hesitated, glancing at it.
You sighed. âJust answer her.â
His expression softened. âYou sure?â
No, you werenât sure. You wanted to be selfish, wanted him to ignore it just for one night. But instead, you forced a smile and nodded.
He grabbed his phone, fingers flying over the keyboard, completely tuned out.
The normalcy youâd been holding onto slipped further away.
The movie blurred into background noise. Even though he was sitting right there, it felt like he was miles away.
You shifted, hugging your knees. âSo⊠whatâs she saying?â
Chris didnât look up. âHuh?â
âFor someone whoâs just checking in, she sure is keeping you busy.â
He barely reacted. âOh, nothing big. Just telling her about movie night. She said itâs cute that we have traditions.â
Your stomach twisted. Cute. As if your years of friendship were just some little quirk of his.
Jaw tightening, you refocused on the screen, determined to ignore the feeling creeping up your spine. But after a few minutes, he still wasnât paying attention.
âDude.â You nudged him again. âSeriously. Youâre missing the best part.â
Chris sighed, locking his phone. âOkay, okay, Iâm done.â He turned back to the screen, but now you couldnât focus.
Maybe you were overreacting. Maybe you were just being selfish. He was allowed to be excited about his girlfriend. He was allowed to check his phone.
Right?
Still, it was hard to ignore how things used to be. How, not too long ago, you never had to fight for his attention.
Chris laughed at something in the movie, nudging you playfully. âCome on, I know you think this is funny.â
Your response was half-hearted. âYeah. Totally.â
Something in your tone mustâve given you away because he frowned. âWhatâs up with you?â
âNothing.â
âY/N.â
You exhaled, shaking your head. âItâs just⊠youâve been on your phone all night. I donât even know why I came over.â
His eyebrows pulled together. âCome on. Itâs not a big deal.â
âNot a big deal?â You scoffed. âChris, I donât even remember the last time we hung out without you texting Avery the whole time.â
Chris sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. âI like talking to her. Is that a crime?â
âNo, butââ You stopped yourself, biting your tongue.
But what? But sheâs taking you away from me? But you never acted like this before? But I miss the way things used to be?
Chris waited for you to finish, but the words stuck in your throat.
Instead, you shook your head. âForget it.â
He groaned. âOh my god, just say it.â
âI said forget it.â
âNo, because obviously somethingâs bothering you.â
âYeah, well, maybe itâs because I feel like Iâm losing my best friend,â you snapped before you could stop yourself.
Silence.
Chris blinked. âYouâre not losing me.â
You looked away, not trusting yourself to speak.
Chris sighed, running a hand through his hair. âLook⊠I donât want you to feel that way. But I really like Avery. Canât you just be happy for me?â
Your stomach twisted. âI am happy for you.â
But even as you said it, you werenât sure if it was the truth.
A/N- i will also be doing the third chapter tonight (itâs already written) i just passed out last night and forget to post the second chapter!

thinking about aus for ocs is so funny. like i already put this guy in a situation but what if i put them in another totally different one
#i've had this au idea in my head for a while now but basically it's buckbray ending up in a pmd world#except they weren't humans before. they're still + have always been pokĂ©mon#so they end up in this new world dominated only by pokĂ©mon + are like#âuh...... where are the humans?â#+ in typical pmd fashion everyone else is like âwhat the fuck are you talking aboutâ#but anyways once chambray figures out there's no humans here he's fucking DEVASTATED cause he could really use his trainer rn#+ i don't remember if this would be in-character for bucky or not but he's elated. he wants to stay with his boyfriend here forever#like sure. there's no human food here but at least now he can spend as much time with his boyfriend as he wants!#+ chambray doesn't have to translate for anyone anymore! isn't this great?#reblog zone

#mood rocketing downhill. thjs can only end well :-(#on my period and so tired and sad and lonely and i really really really want a hug im going to bash my head in with a rock#and a bit annoyed i spent ages testing climbing shoes today which ive been meaning to do for ages and the staff were rly nice#and i got a pair in the end but tbh i may end up returning them bc on reflection im not sure theyll work for my specific climbing style#what i rly wanted was a few sizes down of my current ones but they didnt have stock. and i tried the size i wanted in a variation of the#same shoe ie. same shape just not the rubber im after and they fit near perfectly so now im just thinking abt them instead.#u know what fuck it. ill take the train to my old city tmr and go to the climbing store there bc i checked online n they do have them.#ill just be constantly doubting my decision if i dont and i need to do smth nice for myself. and i can read on the train#and if they dont fit better well i have these other ones. and these ones are still nice! but im worried theyre more suited to sport/trad#and im primarily a boulderer... and i mean theyd def be good for some types of bouldering and i wanna get into sport/trad anyway but arghhh#whatever. fuck it. booked my train its not that expensive anyway just time. im tired of letting my decision paralysis get to me#and always settling for shit that makes me unhappy bc its not quite what i want but i talk myself into pretending im okay with it#when im not!!! and its unfair to myself and everyone around me to so consistently fail to identify n communicate my actual wants/needs#this isnt actually abt the shoes im upset for other reasons but at least projecting it onto this gives me a semblance of control#and gives me an easy way out of having to confront n deal with my avoidance...... it literally has no fucking limits huh.#well whatever. i need to food shop and eat and shower and then its okay ill play a videogame and go to bed early#its not been that bad a day i watched a movie this morning which was nice. and it was nice to cycle around the weathers great#probably havent slept enough. probably took my afternoon meds too late. probably just feeling lonely and tired and on my period....#tomorrow will be a nice day and monday i have climbing and there are other nice things coming up. puts down my head bashing rock#okay feeling a bit better now ive cried a bit and typed this. deep breath. wheres my shopping list.#.diaries#.vent#byeee

Ghada's campaign on GoFundMe has had it's transfers paused without cause. She relies greatly on donations to survive and now she is in desperate need of support. These are her words. Please donate and share.
Hello, I'm Ghada Mhasen, 20 years old, mother of a child born in war. She married shortly before the war and became pregnant a month before the war. The war came and killed my joy with my pregnancy and marriage, as we were forced to leave our house and flee. I left my belongings and things behind. I couldn't take anything. It was a difficult period with great difficulty. We found a tent to shelter my husband and me, because we had nothing. No one helped us. We tried to manage our affairs with the simplest and least things, but we also had to flee again, as we fled to Rafah. I heard the news of my house bombing and it was shocking news for me because it was all we had. My condition deteriorated and I was afraid for my unborn baby. Time passed and we tried to manage our affairs, but we almost died of hunger and almost lost my child, but thank God he remained fine. We continued to be displaced and our condition worsened. My husband and I were very tired until we visited Khan Yunis for the last time. It's time for me to have children and be born in a tent, a contaminated tent. There was no medical supplies. My condition was critical, but thanks to God, my child and I survived. Now I can't provide for his basic needs. We put below zero. I have now resorted to creating a Chuffed account to ask for help from you. Please help me, please. We need a tent to accommodate us from the winter and the needs of my child. We need food and drink. We need medicine. My husband worked hard to provide the simplest things for us, but while he was working, a wall fell on him and broke his foot. Now there's no way to help us live except for this donation link. Please save us. Please, every donation is important. It would have saved us from war, hunger and cold. We are not in one war. We are in three wars: the war of Zionism, the war of hunger and the war of cold. I ask you to save us. Every donation, up to $20, will save us from these wars. I am now living in a cloth that covers four sides without a roof. If winter really comes, we will die. Save us. Thank God, now after the end of the war, we are still living a very difficult life. I still can't provide for my child's needs or provide any of our needs from eating and drinking, even water with difficulty, we bring it. We always wait for any help to come to us, but unfortunately, my child does not come, he is exposed to a lot of infections because of the bad Pampers that we use for. I just want to provide what is necessary. I want to ensure a good life for him most of the time. It's rainy, uninhabitable tent. We always sink. I hope you to help us if in $50, please sympathize with us and my child. I trust you and thank you.

Thank you, @aceinacorner, for this gem:

You are the inspiration for
DPxDC Ring of Rage? More Like Ring of Engage [pt. 3]
[<- part 2 | part 4 ->]
Duke narrows his eyes.
He swears Tim was not in the Cave just five seconds ago, and yet, in the brief moment when Duke wasn't looking, he just materialized out of motherfucking aether. Smelling like Chinese food and holding a chicken skewer that looks so good that Duke's mouth waters.
"Can I have a piece?" He asks, the divine smell of food overriding the urge to ask 'where did you get it' or 'how did you get here'.
Tim nods, smiles, and hands Duke the whole skewer before going for the elevator.
Is it Duke's hallucination, or is he really humming something as he goes?.. Actually, that doesn't matter. The chicken tastes even better than it smells, and Duke is perfectly willing to keep his mouth shut in exchange for food.
You don't talk with your mouth full, after all.
~â~
Cass watches Tim over the table. She hasn't heard him coming into the dinner room - no steps in the hall, no rustle of clothing or breathing. It's like the boy has somehow appeared right in front of the door out of nowhere before entering.
What's more, he seems obviously not hungry, picking at his food with an absent, if a bit dreamy, expression. Granted, Tim always picks at his food, but Cass can see the difference between 'Tim's mind is busy with a new case and therefore too distracted to eat' and 'Tim already had dinner elsewhere and is too full to eat now'.
The bags under his eyes are also not as dark as they usually are. Come to think of it, Cass hasn't seen him in a bad mood for a few weeks now, which shouldn't really be that strange, but it's Tim. The smallest of inconveniences can put him in a bad mood.
Tim notices her looking and raises an eyebrow.
Cass blinks and goes back to her plate. Whatever is keeping her brother happy, it deserves her full approval.
~â~
Jason is... not so sure as to what is happening.
He did notice that Tim was really chill lately, but this is going a bit overboard.
"Did you spike it with arsenic, Replacement?" He asks, suspiciously looking the offered cup of coffee over without taking it. Tim - surprisingly, actually - doesn't react to the nickname in the slightest, instead giving Jason a deadpan look. Then, he brings the cup up to his mouth, takes a sip, and hands it back again.
Okay, well, that proves no arsenic, at least. It's still very weird. Tim doesn't just buy coffee for people, and he especially doesn't buy coffee for Jason.
"Am I going to owe you something for it, or what?" He asks, slowly reaching for the cup. Tim sighs.
"No. It's just a drink - my boyfriend loves it, and I think you'd like it as well," he explains with a shrug, and Jason is honestly too befuddled to ask about anything. Including the boyfriend part.
No, but since when does Timbers have a boyfriend? He sure hadn't mentioned anything about it to any of the others.
The drink turns out to be not coffee but something else, tangy and thick, and when Jason takes the lid off, it's green like Mountain Dew.
It does taste great, though, and later Jason considers asking Tim for another one. He hadn't had anything better in ages.
~â~
Damian strikes through the last one of the training holograms, breathing heavily. And yet, just as the 'simulation complete' message pops up in the air, he hears a step behind him.
He turns around faster than a lightning, and-
Finds Timothy's neck at the tip of his katana, with his hands up in surrender.
"What are you doing here?" Damian sneers, lowering his weapon, and Tim swallows. Not because of surprise or fear, though, he clearly had some half chewed up food in his mouth.
"Inaccurate drop off," he says, looking Damian straight in the eyes, "I was aiming for the main floor."
He smells of Indian food and spices, and Damian almost sneezes.
"What do you mean 'aiming'?" He demands, but Drake just waves him off, heading towards the elevator up.
"No worries, I'll do better next time," he shoots a smile over his shoulder, "See you on patrol!" And with that, the elevator doors close after him, leaving Damian alone.
Drake has always been strange, but this is too much even for him.
Not that it's Damian's business. He huffs and starts the simulation over again.
~â~
If Dick didn't witness it with his own two eyes, he would have never believed it. Alas, he did, and even though the swirling green vortex has already disappeared like it was never there, Tim, whom the strange portal just spat out on the floor of the Cave, is still here.
"What the fuck was that?" He nearly yells, and Tim looks up, a face of perfect innocence.
"What was what?" He returns the question, and Dick can't find the words to explain, so he just wildly gestures to the place where the portal has been less than five seconds ago. Tim blinks, "Oh, that. That was my date."
Dick chokes on his breath.
"Your date?" He parrots, hoarse and breathless, and Tim nods, like there's not a single thing wrong with anything that has just happened. "Since when do you go on dates? Wait, I thought you were engaged, you said it was cheating to date anyone else, even if you didn't know the spouse, you said-" he cuts himself off, feeling his own face slowly falling and his stomach sinking down in horror. "No. No, don't tell me."
But the shit-eating grin on Tim's face is already proof enough.
Dick clears his throat. Takes a deep breath.
Seeing that Tim is still in one piece, and, well, that he did just casually come out of a magic portal in the middle of the Cave, it's probably safe to say that it's not the first time.
And, judging by the mirth in Tim's grin, it's also safe to say he's been rather enjoying it.
Dick releases one long, loud breath and forces a smile on his face as well.
"So, how is it?" He asks, trying in vain to sound light-hearted, not suspicious. Tim's smile gets wider, and there's a glint of excitement in his eyes now, which Dick considers a good thing, all in all.
"Oh, I thought you'd never ask."

Bonus Scene (that somehow turned out longer than I planned)
~â~
"Where's Tim?" Bruce asks when all the rest of his kids are already seated around the table for breakfast.
"At Danny's, probably," Steph shrugs before digging into the waffles on her plate. Bruce frowns.
"Danny's?" He asks. He hasn't heard that name before. Is that a friend of Tim's?
"Drake's paramour," Damian clarifies, not bothering to look up from his own food, and Bruce's mind comes to a screeching halt. He blinks stupidly, looking around the table and sincerely hoping it is some sort of a prank, but Cass smiles and nods, and Dick has an expression of pure exhaustion on his face, and Duke is huffing a snort of laughter at him for it.
"Since when-" Bruce starts, but he is suddenly cut off by a glowing circle that appears just a few feet away from them all.
It grows quickly, morphing into a vortex, a green and ominous tear in reality big enough for a person to walk through, hanging in the air a few inches over the ground. The space around it feels staticky somehow, and the color is too bright to look at directly, and it definitely doesn't belong to their dining room. But before Bruce is able to say another word or do anything at all, Tim steps out of it, his hair and clothes ruffled.
"Oh, fuck," he mutters upon seeing them all, and turns around, sticking his head into the vortex just as it starts to close. The vortex pauses.
Bruce is almost too stunned to move.
His kids don't share the sentiment, though, most of them not paying the portal any attention at all. Bruce would have reprimanded them for the poor awareness of their surroundings if he didn't notice how Damian simply glanced up at it before going back to his food.
They saw the portal. They just didn't deem it dangerous. For some reason.
Tim's face comes back out, and he turns to Bruce. His expression looks different than before: a bit smug, a little mischievous, and just a tad bit nervous.
Then, another head pops up through the surface of the portal. A boy - or at least they look like a boy - with snow white hair that floats in the air and bright, almost neon blue eyes. His skin is far too pale for him to be human, and- he has freckles that look like constellations.
For some reason, that's the part that makes Bruce finally resign to the fact that this is just how his life is. With breakfasts interrupted by green portals and otherworldly boyfriends - because who else might it be, really - before he even had his morning coffee.
"Hi!" Said otherworldly boyfriend grins and waves his hand. "I'm Danny, Tim's fiance," he introduces himself, and Bruce conjures the last scraps of his scattered mind to smile and nod back.
"Good morning, Danny. I'm Bruce." He has no idea what else to say; it seems like a bit late for shovel talk, but a bit early for welcoming speech.
"Would Young Master Danny care to join us for breakfast?" Alfred's calm, but still slightly amused voice comes from the door. Bruce turns to look at the butler with a sense of exasperation - is he really the last one to learn anything in this house? - but the man seems... well, not surprised, at least not on the surface. But his grip on the pitcher of orange juice is just a little too tense for him to have been in the know all along.
Danny turns to him and smiles nicely - his teeth are also way too sharp for a human - before shaking his head, "No, sorry, I was just dropping Tim off."
"For God's sake," Tim rolls his eyes, "Just put on some pants and come out, I refuse to suffer through this alone."
Dick chokes on his toast. Steph gasps, her eyes snapping between Tim and Danny in delight. Cass snorts and kicks her under the table. Damian groans.
"Spare me from the details of your personal life, Drake. Need I remind you that I am thirteen," he narrows his eyes.
The constellations on Danny's cheeks shine just a bit brighter, and Bruce has no idea what that is supposed to mean, but his guess is along the lines of embarrassment. Especially when the boy completes it with rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"You mean to tell me that, at thirteen years old, you don't know what sex is?" Tim deadpans, running a hand through his hair in a useless effort to smooth it and taking his seat at the table. Dick's coughing fit comes back with renewed force.
"We didn't-" Danny starts, still kind of hovering midway through the portal, but Damian pays him little attention.
"I do. Yet, I prefer my mind free of the knowledge when it applies to you."
"I want all the details, though," Steph pipes up, looking at Danny from her seat, "Can you, like, sprout tentacles or something, because I know for a fact Tim likes that kind of-"
"Steph!" Tim yells at her, face red, and then turns to Danny, who suddenly has a very interested, if a bit mischievous, look on his face, "Don't you dare."
"Yeah, okay," Danny snorts and disappears back in the portal. Bruce half-expects it to close after him, but the vortex stays.
Which probably means the boy - the King of Infinite Realms, Keeper of Unseen Worlds, Eyes of the Universe - is going to be right back.
After he puts on some pants, supposedly.
Bruce watches Tim rub his face in frustration while Steph giggles and elbows him in the side, and sighs. This is so not how he expected this morning to be.

"Penelope Grace Garcia!"
Her comment earned her the full government name, igniting a burst of laughter that you attempt to smother behind your hand. Sinking deeper into the couch, you dismiss the absurdity with a shake of your head. You even find yourself glancing over your shoulder even though you know no one is home.
"You know, I really shouldn't be telling you this, but trust me, that's the least of our worries in this relationship."
"Look, whatever floats your love boat or rocks your bed frame is strictly your business," she comments as if that were the most casual thing to say.
You giggle, a warmth spreading through you as you tread across the kitchen tiles, the phone pressed against your ear.Â
"Oh my god, Pen," you let out a laugh, feeling a soft crimson spread across your cheeks, while your thighs swell with the thoughts of your doting boyfriend. "No, no, like I said we're more than okay in that department. It just gets, well, lonely when he's away."
Your hand curls around the neck of your favorite bottle of red, easing the cork free with a satisfying pop. The liquid swirls into the glass, a little more than probably necessary, as the gentle hiss of water beginning to simmer breaks through the kitchen.Â
"You, my dear, are a saint among mortals."
"Well, he makes it easy," you shrug, pouring the rice into the bubbling pot, a cloud of steam rising to paint the windows.
"Honestly, I don't know how you manage. I'd be itching for it, especially if it's as good as you say," Penelope admits with a dramatic sigh.
You laugh, propping the phone against the backsplash, its speaker projecting the conversation into the room. Aaron stands just out of sight, unnoticed, taking in your every syllable.
"When he gets back, trust me, every second apart seems like a small price to pay."
"Ever thought about getting yourself a toy? You know, for those long nights?" Penelope hints not (at all) so slyly.Â
The wine almost sprays from your mouth as you stifle a surprised splutter. Aaron, still unseen, raises an eyebrow.
"Oh, um, no, I haven't really considered... a toy," you murmur, cheeks burning. You clear your throat, pretending to be engrossed in the simmering pot. "Aaron might have an opinion on that, I guess."
Your attempt at nonchalance was failing, you definitely knew that.
Aaron rested casually against the door frame, a soft smile touching his lips at the sound of your bashful laughter. He'd always had a soft spot for the way your cheeks bloom with color--a sight he wasn't afraid to go great lengths to witness. The idea of a toy seemed to pique his curiosity, drawing a pensive frown as his attention stayed fixed on you for a moment longer.
He slips away silently, his steps carrying him to the front door as you continue your conversation with Penelope.
The call disconnects with a soft click, and you're left in the quiet of the kitchen, unwittingly promising to keep Penelope updated. Turning back to the stove, you stir the sauce with a distracted hand, your lips downturned. Aaron should have been home by now.
The dining table is set, candles flickering, their glow falling on the chair he's yet to fill. You let out a sigh, stealing another look at the ticking clock. The food is ready, but with each passing minute, it grows cooler, just the unfamiliar feeling of disappointment settling in your chest.Â
The audible twist of the key catches your attention, and you can't help but glance over your shoulder. Aaron walks in, his lips curving into a smile upon seeing you.
"Hi, my gorgeous girl," he greets, his voice a familiar sound that kindles a familiar flutter into your heart.
He places his briefcase down, the sound muted, and as he approaches, his lips brush a tender kiss against your temple. The annoyance that had been bubbling inside you melts away with his touch. Damn him.
You turn to him, a sheepish "Hi" fluttering out, your cheeks tinged with heat. It's a feeling that's always fresh, the way he still makes you feel like you're back in high school, hearts doodled in the margins of your notebook.
Aaron settles into his chair, the soft scrape of wood against the tile following his movements.
"Sorry 'M late," he offers, his tone warm, appreciative. "Everything looks and smells wonderful, honey. Thank you."
His fingers gently sweep a loose strand of hair from your face, his smile softening you, disarming you. He's so beautiful.
"You're welcome," you reply, your cheeks growing warmer with each word. "And, um, I hope it's okay. It might be a bit cold. I thought...I guess I assumed you'd be home sooner."
You voice trails off, leaving behind a trail of embarrassed concern, wondering if perhaps you'd somehow overstepped.Â
Aaron looks at you, his eyes turning kind as he discerns the unease on your face.
"I'm sorry, baby, got held up with a little errand." He bites into the food, and a gratified hum indicates his approval. "This is delicious."
You find yourself beaming at the praise. He had a talent for that--praising you, almost as if he'd made it his life mission. This was a first for you in a relationship, and it's exactly why the late nights and time spent alone didn't weigh so heavily.Â
After dinner, you're rinsing off the plates when Aaron's hands draw you close, his hands claiming your waist, the heat of his palms radiating through the fabric of your shirt. He plants a soft kiss on your shoulder.
"Let me help with that. You're spoiling me," he insists, his words spoken into your damp skin.
You lean back into his embrace, his chest flush against your back.
"I like taking care of you," you admit, heart skipping a beat under the weight of his gaze, the softness in his eyes dissolving your concentration on the task at hand.Â
A deep, affectionate groan escapes Aaron as he pulls you even closer. But all good things come to an end, and the ringing of his phone seems like an icy intrusion, like a sudden draft into the kitchen.
"Hotchner," he answers, and even though the word leaves his lips, his fingers gently sketch patterns across your hip.Â
You feel your heart sink. When he hangs up, his eyes lock with yours, brimming with an apology he doesn't voice. It's unnecessary, you already know.
"A case?" You hate how small your voice sounds, dipped in an understanding you wish you didn't have.
He nods, a simple stupid gesture that sends a lump of disappointment soaring up your throat, which you desperately try to swallow down.Â
"Okay... just, be careful, okay? I'll miss you."
"And I'll miss you, angel. Be good for me."
There's a hollowness in the house that follows you through each room. You were well aware of Aaron's demanding job when you started dating--the unpredictable schedule, the sudden departures, the cases that required his immediate attention. Still, this awareness did nothing to soften to sting of his absence. At all.Â
You found yourself wandering aimlessly, picking up a book only to set it down unread, starting a movie but not really watching. Eventually, you ended up in the bedroom, his bedroom, where the subtle scent of his cologne lingers. It's both comforting and heart-wrenching. God, you felt like you were being so dramatic.
You climb into the bed, the sheets cool against your skin, too big and empty without him. Your eyes darts to the phone resting on the nightstand. You've always been careful not to disturb him while he's working, but tonight felt different.
With a trembling hand, you pick up the phone, your thumb hovering indecisively over the screen. Reluctantly, you returned it to its place. There was no point in bothering him.
A sudden draft sent a shiver up your spine, reminding you of the blanket Hotch had bought for you a couple months ago. You sighed, rising from the bed and moving to the closet.
But your eyes skipped over the blanket, instead fixating on a shiny pink bag tucked away in a secluded corner. Compelled by a spike of curiosity, you grabbed the bag and pulled it open. Your eyes widened, cheeks burning with a sudden flush as you placed it on the bed. How long had this been hiding here? And the timing--just after your conversation with Penelope--felt almost too uncanny.Â
You went back to your phone.
Hi
The message was simple. You hit send before you can second-guess yourself.
Almost immediately, your phone vibrated--Aaron's name illuminated the screen. You answer, and his voice was there, infused with immediate concern.
"Hi honey. You okay?" His question was straightforward, cutting through the noise.
You nodded, forgetting for a moment he couldn't see you. Shifting on the bed, you said softly, "Um, yeah, I'm fine. I didn't mean to bother you. Is it a bad time?"
His response is quick. "You could never bother me."
A blush flares on your cheeks, and a smile instinctively forms. You fidget on the bed, the sheets sighing with your movements, sounds that don't escape Aaron's attentive detection.
"Can't seem to find the right spot without me there, huh?"
"I can't seem to do a lot of things without you here," you grumble under your breath, intended more for yourself than for him. The bed emits a soft creak as you turn again, your breath hitching in a pout that he can almost see through the phone. "Aaron, I found something in the closet..."
You lost your words, fingertips tracing the toy's edge, as you fumbled with the strings of your shorts.
"Hmm? Care to enlighten me."
"You know."
You weren't in the mood for his teasing, because you knew he knew. You could sense his smugness, his voice dripping into that familiar, velvety register that prompted your lips to purse.
"I don't know, sweetheart."
Once again, you found yourself stirring against the linen, nibbling on your lip as a wave of exasperation washed over you, your eyes rolling into their sockets.
"Where are you?"
"Just got to my hotel room." You could hear the subtle movements in the background, accompanied by the soft groans of the mattress under his weight. "What did you find in the closet that was so urgent you needed to text me in the middle of my case?"
Your face was warm. "You said it wasn't a bother."
"And I meant it, now spell it out for me."
Your hands cautiously pushed over the toy, examining its buttons and sides. Subconsciously, your tongue swept over your top teeth. You lowered your voice as though someone else might overhear.
"The toy...is it for me? I mean, I would hope so. If not, well, we'd have a rather awkward issue."
"Yes, it's for you, baby."
You stifled a grin. How could he have known? That profiling business was really no joke.
"Why?"
His muffled chuckle filtered through, and you could almost see the flash of his pearly whites. You really missed him, so much so that you were conjuring vision of his mouth of his on places that should not be said aloud.Â
"I just want to make sure my best girl is taken care of when I'm not home." You could practically hear the smirk on his lips.
You were deep in your fantasy now, your free hand sliding down your shorts as you envisioned him propped against the headboard of his hotel bed, tie hanging loosely, hair tousled just so.
"I'm always taken care of by you, Aaron," you said quietly.
You didn't know how to go about this, whatever this even was. You were treading into unknown territory; never having had phone sex with Aaron--or anyone for that matter. It was a far cry from the occasional suggestive text.
"That's right." His voice flowed like honey in your ear, causing a shiver as your finger skimmed over your underwear, your breathing momentarily faltering. "You're going to be well taken care of for the rest of your life, yeah?"
"Yeah."
You could hardly breathe, squirming against your own touch, glancing over at the toy that sat beside your hip.
"I want you to know how much I appreciate your patience. You're a good girl, honey. Far too good for me."Â You weren't. It was the other way around; you didn't deserve him. You told yourself that every day. "I know you get lonely, and I know it's something you'd never admit to."
"Aaron..."
He didn't let you finish. "Why don't you tell me what you're doing right now?"
Your actions came to an abrupt standstill, thumb suspended above your clothed clit. You entertained the thought that this FBI gig might have been a front for a psychic, maybe one of those fortune teller types.
You were mumbling into your sleeve, a private conversation with the threads. "Just...um, well it's hardly worth mentioning, honestly."
Wow you're sure you fooled him.
"I'm not fond of dishonesty." The low rumble of his voice sent a tremor through your core. "I'm giving you a final chance. Tell me what you're doing, sweetheart."
A hard swallow passed your throat, your thumb rubbing idle circles into the band of flesh on your hip.Â
"Well, I, uh, was touching myself." The words felt as awkward as they sounded, an internal wince accompanying each syllable at how unsexy you were speaking.
"Where, sweetheart?"
You exhaled sharply at the question, heavy with exasperation at his insistence on drawing this out. But the slickness between your legs was undeniable. Your hand slid back to the delicate skin between your thighs.
"Aaron, please," you breathed out so faintly it was almost inaudible.
He was playing a cruel game, and he knew it. You hardly cussed let alone talk about your lady parts so openly.
"I hope I've never given you a reason to feel judged, honey." There was a sweetness in his voice that masked his darker intentions. "Just tell me where. I want to help."
Your tongue flicked nervously across your lip, your finger dipping into the valley of your folds as you mulled over his offer. You were wet, far more than you had anticipated, practically coating your thighs in the process.
"No, 'course not," you said softly, biting back a sigh as your thumb worked slowly against your inflamed clit. "It's just, you're so far, Aaron."
"Why do you think I got you that toy?" Your gaze darted to the pink thing, resting against your hip. "I want you to use it. I'll walk you through it, just like I would in person."
You could melt. You could liquefy into nothingness on the spot. Your fingers pressed more urgently against yourself, a deep-seated wish for him to be here surfacing, knowing all the while it was a baseless hope.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yeah, okay."
"There you go, that's my girl."
You couldn't hold back the whimper that fell from your lips as you arched against the bed, fingers diving into your cunt.
"My needy girl," he repeated, his laughter resonating with a patronizing tone that oddly egged you on. "Alright, can you pick up the toy for me?"
You wedged the phone snugly between your shoulder and ear, your hand closing around the pink, curved object, scrutinizing its every detail with careful eyes.
"Okay."
It was big, not as big as Aaron, but its dimensions were nonetheless imposing. You felt your chest heave in anticipation, waiting for his instructions.
His silence was stretching your patience thin. You turned it on, and it came to life, watching as it vibrated, the soft buzz permeating the space. You let it trail over your stomach, fabric gathering as your shirt rode up. Nearing your clit, you braced, taking in a quick breath.
But that breath was released in a strangled moan as you pushed the toy firmly into your sopping hole, legs spreading expansively as a taut sensation gripped your center.
"Did I say you could use it already?" he questioned, his tongue clicking in disapproval as you strained against the device, the second prong vibrations coursing against your nub, your whole-body jerking in response.
"N-No, 'M sorry," you panted, your focus narrowing as you pushed to toy in and out, your lips rounding into an 'o'. "It feels really good, Aar."
"I'm sure it does, baby," he teased, his voice carrying a certainty that your own lacked. "Let me hear you fuck yourself with it.
You loved hearing him curse, it was rare, and usually reserved for intimate moments like this. It fueled your actions, your wrist quickening, driving the device deeper, your stomach twisting in tight knots, a loud moan escaping unrestrained, suddenly you were thankful for the distance between Aaron's house and the next.
It felt so good, and yet somehow still not comparable to how it was with Aaron. Weren't you spoiled?
"Miss you so much," you slurred, your movements stuttering as the device worked your body in ways you didn't know were possible.
"Miss you too, angel. You're doing so good."
"Can you, ah, come home, p-please?"
You weren't even sure of what you were saying, all your thoughts on chasing your high and pretending the toy was Aaron's cock. Thinking about how he'd fill you up right now, how he'd press you to the mattress, how his body would cover yours.
"Your present isn't enough?" His tone was taunting, your eyes welling with tears, clouding your vision as your hips bucked against the toy. "That's a shame, sweetheart, think maybe you've been a little spoiled. You can't have my cock all the time."
You were completely dazed, his sentences barely making their way through the fog as you'd like them to. You were crying, you think, hot and relentless tears carving a path down your face as you fucked yourself harder against the toy.
The noises coming from your pussy were obscene, soaked and squishing as you tried to respond to Aaron, but nothing but small hiccups were escaping your mouth.
"It's okay, baby, I know. You're doing so good for me. I can hear it."
Your cheeks and ears flared with a heat that spelled out your shame, but it was the least of your concerns. Your walls tightened against the device, the pressure on your clit suddenly all too much and not enough at the same time. Gasping for air, your breaths came out in uneven bursts. When you tried to call out Aaron's name, it emerged as nothing more than a choked sob.
"C-Can I? Please, need to so bad." You weren't entirely convinced you were speaking English, but Aaron understood.Â
"Go ahead, sweetheart."
That was all you needed. Your cunt contracted again before vaulting over the edge, nearly losing consciousness in the process, a string of moans and half-said words pouring out of your lips.
You could hear the sound of his voice, but the words were just out of reach, not fully making sense. You felt your body twitch, and you blinked deliberately, once, twice, three times, in an effort to reconnect your body to your mind.
"You're so good, baby. So good. Miss you so much."
You pulled the toy, now soaked, from yourself, cringing at the lewd sound as you laid it beside you, making a mental note to wash the sheets later. Although if Aaron had his way that wouldn't happen.
"I miss you." You hated the way your voice betrayed ever emotion you had.
"Need you to go pee for me, sweetheart."
He sounded so soft and tired, but somehow still present. You let out a soft snicker as you curled onto your side.Â
"Can't move my legs," you mumbled, the sound muffled by the way your cheek was squished into the pillow. "Need you to come carry me."
His laugh was something you wished you could bottle up. "Spoiled."
"And who's to blame for that?" You were ready for his witty retort, but it was cut short by the sudden flash of your phone. You squinted at the caller ID. "Sorry, Penelope is calling me, can I call you back in a second?"
"Course, honey. Thank her for the idea, yeah?" Your mouth fell open as you scrambled for the right words. Of course he had heard. "Also, I plan on spending a few solid hours fucking you when I get home, so I suggest you get some rest."

Itâs strange when âdemocracyâ means people have to choose between Ivankaâs dad and Ellaâs mom, as if thatâs supposed to feel empowering. Sure, two bad options donât feel great, but hey, at least there are options. In some countries, youâd be lucky to get even one choice. And in others? They donât get elections at all, just a permanent leader who shows up like itâs just another day on the clock. But here democracy feels like a two for one special with a free side of disappointment.
Now that Ivankaâs dad has won. Yes Yes my friend !! Abo Ivanka has won!! And here we are, looking at this system and thinking, âWas this even a choice?â Itâs like being asked to pick between plain oatmeal and soggy cereal for breakfast. Sure, itâs technically a choice, but nobodyâs excited about it. The two main parties hog the spotlight so completely, theyâve turned âoptionsâ into a choice between âslightly badâ and âabsolutely dreadful.â And heaven forbid a third-party voice shows up, because here, you need a 50% popularity rating just to get a seat at the grown-upsâ table.
By now, picking a president feels like choosing between the flu and food poisoning. The two big parties are so close in their love for big donors, itâs like watching rival soap operas funded by the same network. We call it âdemocracy,â but it feels like a rigged game, with mega-donors pulling the strings while the rest of us are just the audience, sitting here with popcorn, hoping the plot somehow gets better.
Sure, many lean toward the Democrats, thinking theyâre the âbetterâ choice. But from where Iâm sitting, especially as a Palestinian, neither side looks promising. Take Gaza: Democrats have left it in ruins, like a bulldozer at a sandcastle competition, with 80% of the infrastructure leveled and 90% of the people displaced. Now Ivankaâs dad is in charge, and, honestly, weâre past worrying about escalation, because thereâs nothing left to escalate to. At this rate, they have already broken the records for destruction and the number of martyred, but the looming fear now is if thereâll be any Gaza left to talk about.
For Palestinians, for Gaza, for much of the world, this isnât âdemocracyâ; itâs a magic show where they tell you to pick a card, but no matter what you choose, it always comes back to the same card: disaster.
And now, winterâs arrived in Gaza. The nights there? Letâs just say, theyâre colder than the stare youâd get from a #### whoâs been asked to pay $12 or 15 for a black coffee. My family, like so many others, is living in a tent, a âtentâ being a generous word for a few sheets trying to pass for walls. The wind comes in from every side, and huddling under thin blankets in this weather is like fighting a snowstorm with a paper towel. The cold bites to the bone, and thereâs no escape; itâs like natureâs way of reminding us weâre still here, exposed.
If you can, please consider donating. Even the smallest help means warmth on a freezing night, a bit of comfort in the middle of a relentless winter. Itâs a glimmer of hope for my family and trust me, itâs more welcome than soggy cereal ever could be.

F1 GRID | the end of the season '24

àšà§ : featuring : max verstappen, lewis hamilton, george russell, carlos sainz, charles leclerc, lando norris, oscar piastri àšà§ : synopsis : quiet nights at the hotel after a long race
àšà§ : genre : some are happy & some are sad àšà§ : tws : none àšà§ : word count : 2531
àš masterlist à§
ᥣđ© a/n : i am so proud of lando for being able to secure that wcc for mclaren, but i am SO sad seeing carlos drive in red for the last time, and seeing lewis have his last drive with mercedes :c
Êă»max verstappen
the post-race buzz of abu dhabi had faded, leaving a quiet calm in max's hotel suite. he sprawled on the sofa, phone in hand, scrolling through memes with that trademark deadpan expression. p6 wasn't greatâdefinitely not how he wanted to wrap the seasonâbut the world championship trophy on his shelf said it all. he was untouchable, even on an off day.
you dropped onto the couch next to him, giving him a small smile. "not quite the result we were hoping for, huh?"
he tilted his head, barely fazed. "meh. one bad race doesnât erase a good season." he tossed his phone onto the table, already over it. "at least now i donât have to hear the word 'tyre degradation' for a while."
"exactly," you agreed, nudging his arm. "just endless beaches, lazy mornings, and maybe some sketchy tourist traps."
he smirked, his eyes lighting up for the first time all evening. "knowing you, that probably means camel racing or some falcon photo op where i end up holding a bird for instagram."
you laughed. "donât pretend like you wouldnât secretly enjoy it."
"maybe," he admitted with a faint grin. "but only if thereâs good food after. priorities, you know?"
as you leaned into his side, you felt the tension melt away from him. the season was done, the pressure gone. and for once, max verstappen, the reigning world champion, was just a guy on a couch, ready to trade apexes for sunsets and podiums for bad tourist selfies.
Êă»lewis hamilton
a bittersweet stillness filled the roomâp4 after starting sixteenth was nothing short of remarkable, but tonight marked the end of an era. his last race with mercedes. the silver star that had defined his legacy, his dominance, was now in the rearview mirror.
you leaned into him, your head resting lightly on his shoulder. "what a drive, lewis," you murmured, pride laced in your voice. "it was magic out there, just like always."
he smiled faintly, his gaze fixed on the city lights beyond the window. "it felt good, you know? pushing through the field like that. itâs how i want to remember this teamâfighting, always fighting." his voice was steady, but there was a weight behind it, a depth only you could hear.
"itâs hard to see this chapter end," you said softly, running your fingers along the edge of his hand. "so many years, so much history. but watching you todayâwatching you fight with every ounce of heart youâve gotâitâs impossible not to feel proud."
he turned to you then, his eyes warm, a quiet fire still flickering in them. "itâs sad, yeah. mercedes is family. but every journey has its end, and every end makes way for something new. itâs time. time for a new challenge."
you smiled, squeezing his hand. "and ferrari red will suit you, no doubt about it."
that earned a laugh from him, light but genuine, his shoulders finally easing. "weâll see. itâll be... different. but iâm ready for different. i have to be."
"youâll thrive," you said, meeting his gaze with steady confidence. "because thatâs who you are, lewis. you donât just raceâyou redefine whatâs possible."
he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. "and having you by my side, that makes it all the better."
the evening stretched on as you reminisced about mercedesâabout the victories, the struggles, the growth. there was sadness, yes, but also hope, an electric anticipation for the future. ferrari would be a new challenge, but lewis hamilton was built for challenges. and you? youâd be there, through it all, cheering him on as he wrote the next chapter of his already legendary story.
Êă»george russell
the air in georgeâs hotel room was thick with emotions. lewisâhis teammate, his mentor, his benchmarkâwas leaving for ferrari. the weight of it sat heavily on his shoulders, a silent pressure he hadnât quite found the words to unpack.
you settled beside him on the bed, your hand resting lightly on his back. "you drove brilliantly today, george," you said softly, your tone filled with pride.
he gave you a faint smile, though his usual spark was dimmed. "thanks. itâs just... weird, you know? lewis not being here next season. he's been... well, everything. a teammate, a rival, someone to learn from."
"itâs a huge change," you agreed, your voice gentle. "but today, you showed exactly what youâre made of. you didnât just raceâyou fought, george. and everyone saw it."
he turned to look at you, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. "but can i really lead this team now? without him?"
you met his gaze firmly, your conviction unwavering. "you donât have to be lewis, george. youâve already proven you're your own kind of leaderâsharp, determined, and always hungry for more. you donât need to fill anyoneâs shoes because youâre carving out your own legacy."
his shoulders relaxed slightly, the tension giving way to a spark of confidence. "itâs just... lewis set such a high bar. and stepping into that spaceâitâs a lot."
"you donât need to step into his space," you reminded him with a reassuring smile. "youâve earned your own, george. youâve fought for it, and youâre more than ready to take the reins."
he took a deep breath, the weight on his chest easing as resolve began to take its place. "this is my chance, isnât it? to really prove myself."
"absolutely," you said, squeezing his hand. "and iâll be right here, every step of the way, cheering for you."
his smile widened, more genuine this time, and he leaned in to kiss you softly. "thank you, love" he murmured. "that means everything."
as the night stretched on, you stayed by his side, feeling his determination grow stronger with each passing moment. george russell was ready to rise, ready to lead, and ready to show the world exactly why he belonged at the front of the pack. and you couldnât wait to witness it all.
Êă»carlos sainz
arlos sank onto the balcony of his hotel suite, the cool night air brushing against his skin, a sharp contrast to the adrenaline and heat of the race. it his last race with ferrari, the team that had become more than a job.
you slipped behind him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, resting your chin lightly on him. "carlos," you said softly, your voice thick with emotion, "you were amazing today. truly incredible."
he let out a quiet sigh, leaning back into your embrace, his eyes fixed on the city lights. "yeah, it was a good one. but leaving ferrari? thatâs⊠itâs hard. really hard."
"i know," you murmured, your cheek pressing against his. "you and charles, ferrari⊠it felt like it fit, like it was meant to be."
he nodded slowly, a small, wistful smile tugging at his lips. "we were a good team, werenât we? two competitive guys who somehow managed not to kill each other every weekend," he joked, though his voice carried a faint sadness. "but, ah, next season? itâs going to feel strange not seeing his stupid smile in the garage."
you chuckled softly. "but youâll always have the memories," you reminded him. "and youâll make new ones, new rivalries, new podiums."
he turned to look at you, his warm brown eyes meeting yours. "do you remember my first race with ferrari?" he asked, a grin breaking through the sadness. "lando was on the podium with me. and now heâs here again for my last one. crazy, no?"
"itâs like the universe has a sense of humor," you said, your smile mirroring his. "full circle moments like that donât just happen by chance."
he laughed softly, his shoulders relaxing a bit. "yeah, maybe. or maybe itâs just one of those little things that reminds me to enjoy the journey."
you held him close, knowing how much leaving ferrari meant to him. the passion, the heart, the pure determination heâd poured into every single lap. but you also knew that carlos was unstoppableâwherever he went, whatever he faced, he would find his way to the top.
"wherever you go, whatever happens," you said, your voice steady and filled with love, "iâll be right there, cheering you on."
his arms wrapped around you, pulling you in tightly. "i know," he whispered, his voice thick with gratitude. "and thatâs what keeps me grounded. thank you, mi amor."
Êă»charles leclerc
the roar of the abu dhabi crowd had faded, leaving only the soft hum of the air conditioning in charlesâ hotel room. he sat on the edge of the bed, eyes fixed on the trophy for his third-place finish. starting p19 after that engine penalty, clawing his way up to the podiumâit was an extraordinary drive. but there was a weight in his gaze, a shadow of disappointment.
you sat beside him, your hand finding his. "charles," you said gently, your voice full of admiration, "that was incredible. you were on fire out there."
he offered a small smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "it wasnât enough," he muttered, his voice heavy with frustration. "we were so close to the WCC... but mclaren just had too much."
"you did everything you could," you assured him, squeezing his hand. "no one could have driven that race better. you started from the back, charles. and you still ended up on the podium. thatâs... thatâs amazing."
he ran a hand through his hair, sighing deeply. "i know, i know. it's just hard. we were so close. it stings."
you gently cupped his face, lifting his chin so his eyes met yours. "charles leclerc, you are one of the best out there. donât let this one race make you forget everything you've accomplished this season. you fought for every position, you never gave up, and you made us all proud."
a real smile tugged at his lips, the weight on his shoulders easing slightly. "thank you," he whispered, leaning into your touch. "i needed that."
there was a brief pause, and a flicker of sadness passed through his eyes. "itâs gonna be strange without carlos next year," he said quietly, his voice low.
you felt a pang for him. you knew how close he and carlos were, both on and off the track. "i know," you murmured, your heart aching. "but you'll still have him as a friend. and youâll both keep achieving incredible things."
he nodded slowly, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "heâs like a brother to me. it wonât be the same without him."
you wrapped your arms around him, pulling him close. "i know it wonât," you whispered, running your fingers through his hair. "but i know you ,charles. you'll adapt. youâll keep shining."
he held you tighter, drawing comfort from your embrace, "what would i do without you mon amour."
you let out a soft laugh and place a gentle peck on his lips, "you'd probably be a mess without me, i love you."
"i love you too." he told you, snuggling closer.
Êă»lando norris
the echoes of the abu dhabi celebrations had finally faded, leaving a peaceful quiet in lando's hotel suite. he was sprawled on the sofa, the trophy resting on his chest, his eyes half-closed as a contented sigh escaped his lips. the excitement from the victory was still buzzing inside him, but a calm had settled in, like he was finally letting everything sink in.
you curled up beside him, your finger tracing the lines of the trophy. "still can't believe it, huh?" you whispered, a soft smile on your face.
lando chuckled, a grin tugging at his lips. "yeah, it's still kinda crazy. like, i feel like i'm dreaming, but don't wanna wake up."
"you were amazing today, lando," you said, your voice filled with pride. "and the whole season, really. you led mclaren to victory. itâs historic."
he grinned, his eyes lighting up. "yeah, it really is, isnât it? bringing mclaren back to the top after all this time... feels unreal. but in the best way possible."
"you deserve all the praise," you reassured him, snuggling closer. "youâve worked so hard, and youâve grown so much as a driver. i'm so proud of you."
he wrapped an arm around you, pulling you in closer. "couldnât have done it without you, honestly," he murmured, his voice warm. "youâve been with me through all of itâmy biggest supporter."
"and i always will be," you promised, feeling your heart swell. "through the wins, the losses, iâll be right here."
he leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a soft kiss. "and that's all i need," he whispered, his voice barely audible.
as you lay together, bathed in the soft glow of the hotel room lights, the weight of his achievement settled in. lando norris, the man who led mclaren to the top of the world again, securing the WCC after 26 years. this moment, this victory, would be something you both would remember forever. the future was bright, and you couldnât wait for the next adventureâtogether.
Êă»oscar piastri
back in the comfort of his hotel room, oscar kicked back with a grin plastered on his face, the adrenaline from the race replaced by his usual playful energy. p10 wasnât the podium heâd wanted, but who cared? mclaren had just clinched the WCC, and that was more than enough for him.
âwe did it!â he shouted, arms thrown up in the air, his grin wider than ever. âchampions, baby!â
you chuckled, shaking your head at his excitement. âyou guys were incredible today, oscar. especially lando, bringing home the win.â
âyeah, lando was on fire!â oscar agreed, grabbing a celebratory drink from the minibar. âthough, i wouldnât mind a podium myselfâŠâ he paused, a glint of mischief lighting up his eyes. âif it werenât for someone deciding to use my car as a brake early on.â
you raised an eyebrow, trying to hide your smile. âah, yes. max verstappen. saw that incident. bit of a rough start, huh?â
ârough is putting it lightly,â oscar grumbled with a smirk, taking a swig of his drink. âthe guy treated me like a bowling pin! swear i saw stars, maybe even a few constellations.â
âwell, you canât deny it made for some exciting racing,â you teased, nudging him playfully.
âexciting for you, maybe,â he shot back with a grin. âi was just trying to survive out there! dodging debris, angry drivers... felt like a demolition derby.â
âbut you made it through,â you pointed out. âand you contributed to the teamâs victory. thatâs what counts.â
he gave a dramatic nod, his humor returning full force. âtrue, true. who needs a podium when youâve got bragging rights for surviving a verstappen torpedo?â
you burst out laughing, unable to hold back. âthatâs the spirit babe."
as laughter filled the room, you couldnât help but admire oscarâs resilience and ability to keep things light, even when things didnât go his way. he mightâve been a little salty about the verstappen incident, but he was genuinely happy for the team, and thatâs what made him such an asset. next season was going to be one to remember, and you couldnât wait to see what this rising star would achieve.

Moon Starves Sun (FULL VERSION)
Dark!Gojo Satoru x reader
Word Count: 5.8k
Part one: Sun Eats Moon
Part two: Earth Kills Moon
(Warnings: forced relationship, implied nsfw content, implied noncon/dubcon, dark content, implied baby trapping)
When Satoru's close like this, he can hear your heartbeat.Â
It's been a while. Ten years. An entire decade. Everything about this is different, yet so familiar. He feels like he's finally reached the shores, feeling the warm sands underneath his feet. Like he's been given his favorite food after being starved for years. Everything melts. Everything except for you.Â
He'd like to stay like this forever, listening to your rabbit heartbeat, feeling your soft skin, but for your sake, he pulls himself off you. Lying on a wooden desk probably isn't that comfortable.Â
Your eyes are shut. Your breathing is shallow. You're so pretty like this under the moonlight. Your clothes are barely hanging onto your body. He can see every mark he's left on you. Part of him wants to make more, but he'll let you off the hook for now. He's nice like that.Â
"Still with me?"Â
Your eyes flutter open. You don't respond, but at least you're not crying anymore. He can work with that.Â
"C'mon, pretty girl," he says, voice soft, "let's piece you back together."Â
The belt left lines on your wrists. He'll kiss them better later. For now, Satoru collects your clothes and heels from the floor, placing them on the desk. He helps you reclasp your bra, runs his fingers on your arms when you finish buttoning your blouse. It's a quiet affair. Every so often, he'd catch your eyes. You don't let yourself linger for long. Satoru finds that a little cute.Â
You say nothing when he wraps an arm around your waist, guiding you out of his office. Maybe you're still dazed, still gathering yourself back up, because you don't struggle as much as he predicted. You try to leave his grip when the two of you reach the lobby. He's quick to stop you.Â
"Where, do you think you're goin'?" He grips your wrist when you take a step away.Â
You look at him, eyes shimmering like water.Â
You swallow. "My apartment. IâI need to go backâ"Â
He clicks his tongue, bringing you back in.Â
"We can get your stuff later." He tells you with a grin. "let's just go home, tonight. I'm exhausted."Â
You open your mouth. Satoru waits. You say nothing, and he thinks you're starting to get it.Â
The moon is a dusky red tonight. Satoru thinks it's an ugly color.Â
âŸ
If Satoru could describe you in one word, it would be: predicatable.Â
Normal, boring, a speck in the crowdânone of these are bad things. Just like how much of the universe is nothing, you're an empty void, too. Not everyone can be like him. From the minute he was born, Satoru was destined for greatnessâa prodigy, heir to a millionaire conglomerate, the Sun itself. His life isn't written on his forehead for everyone to read.Â
You are the exact opposite. Completely unassuming. He practically knows everything about you without even having to ask.Â
Like how Satoru can instantly tell you've never been over to a boy's room before.Â
You've probably never even been in a relationship before him, either. Even before he managed to corral you into his arms, you were always so annoying about the other things like school and friends. Though, you don't really have much of the latter anymore. His fault, Suguru never fails to remind him.Â
He watches as your eyes linger over his shelf: the numerous trophies and awards. You're still standing meekly in the corner, still garbed in your school uniform, clutching your backpack. He has to roll his eyes at how obviously you're trying not to look at him.Â
"What're you waitin' for?" He finally asks. You jump, eyes flitting over to find him before you find the floor. He resists the urge to roll his eyes again.
It's not like you two haven't done shit before. You sucked him off twice now, and he's finger fucked you against the bleachers. You should really stop being such a prude.Â
"C'mere, pretty girl."Â
You comply, dropping your bag, making your way to the bed. When you look at him from beneath your lashes, warily expectant, Satoru feels a thrill rushing through his body.Â
He's always been impatient. It's in his nature to take. He nips at your mouth, eager to taste your soul from your soft lips. Soft. Everything about you is so softâMalleable beneath his fingers.Â
Satoru didn't explicitly say what his plan was, but you aren't stupid. He can tell you know what's about to happen when you stiffen in his hold, turn to stone within his grip. He would've allowed it if you hadn't gripped onto his shirt, pulling yourself away from his feasting.Â
"Satoru?" You whisper, still leaning away. "The door...?"Â
Annoyed, he glances over. His room is open. It shouldn't really matter.Â
"It's fine." Satoru tells you. "No one's here." No one's ever here.Â
You still look panicked, hands gripping his shirt. Satoru finds that adorably pathetic. How helpless you are. How that's all because of him.
He's sure to make a big show of it. Satoru gives a dramatic sigh, slumps his shoulders, but eventually pushes himself off the mattress to push at the door. He even clicks it shut. He's too nice, sometimes.Â
"Happy?" You nod, you don't look very relaxed but your shoulders have dropped a bit.Â
Satoru doesn't feel too guilty pushing you down, not when you're already in his bed. He isn't known for his patience. He tastes your skin, leaving marks when he can: teeth bites. He pushes you down down down down so he can sink his teeth into your flesh.
You're asleep and under the covers by the time he's done. The moon's out too. Satoru watches it, largely unimpressed. It's so tiny, a sliver of glowing white.Â
And then you shift, turning ever so slightly, enough to catch his attention. He should probably kick you out and send you home. That's what he usually does. When he gets into bed with you, draping his arms around your limp body, he convinces himself it's because he's tired and waking you up would be too much of an effort.Â
He lets himself enjoy your warmth; it's nothing like the cold glow of the moon.Â
âŸ
Sometimes, even Gojo Satoru wonders if he's dreaming.Â
Sometimes, life is too perfect for him to realize it is real. Everything falls perfectly in place, fitting together like those jigsaw puzzles his caretakers used to distract him with halfheartedly.Â
You're in his kitchen, chopping vegetables.Â
It had already been a few weeks, but he still wasn't used to this. You, being in his home, in his kitchen, in his bed. Satoru thinks he's masking it well, but his mind is still reeling, it's a difficult adjustment.Â
Not a bad one.Â
It's like he's been drowning for years and he can suddenly breathe when he sees your toothbrush next to his. It's like he's been stabbed and waking up to your sleeping face is the aloe. It's like he's been suffering through a blizzard, and you cooking in his kitchen, humming a song he doesn't know, is the warm sunny day.Â
Things have changed since he brought you home. His home doesn't feel incomplete anymore. As though the apartment itself has agreed that this is where you belong. There are more clothes in his closet, more shoes by the door. The space is ever so slightly less empty and it fills him with tangible relief. He can cook a meal, but it's still nice coming home to something warm already made.Â
It makes Satoru wonder what things could have been like, had it not been taken away from him.Â
You flinch when he wraps his hands around your waist, nestling into the space in your shoulder. You hadn't heard him come in, apparently. Regardless, you don't linger, fingers hesitating before resuming your task. He finds this part of you adorable. Ignoring the thing that makes your heart race, as though he'll just fade away into the shadows.Â
It's his ego that makes him slink into your warm skin, making sure you know he isn't going anywhere.Â
"Smells good," he says.Â
You nod, pushing away the bell peppers in favor of the onions. Unlike him, you acclimated extremely well. It'd taken nothing to lightly push you to add more and more stuff from your apartment to his. You quietly moved from one setting to another. He remembered this trait of yours from high school. Go with the flow.Â
Though, perhaps, it was less out of genuine apathy. Satoru doesn't have to say what will happen to you if you refuse him. He doesn't have to throw lectures about his family and the influence he has on you. He likes that you aren't stupidly brave. He likes that you're meeker, quieter. You pick your battles.Â
But he thinks he'd like to see you crack, just one more time.Â
"Hey," he says, "let's go out for dinner tomorrow night. There's this restaurant just out of town that has great shrimp cutlet."Â
He expects you to nod, like you always do whenever he decides to do something impulsive and meaningless. Instead, you bite your lip.Â
"I can't." You mutter after a minute of silence. "I have work. Mr. Higuruma just closed a deal andâand I think I'll be coming home later and later this week."Â
Home. It's enough to make his heart flutter. It's the first time you've called the apartment that. Your words almost make him forget about the second thing you said.
Higuruma. The lawyer guy with dead eyes. Satoru remembers him. He always looked at Satoru like he was a child, too stupid to do anything. He never liked how the guy looked at you. Besides, he was way too old for you, never mind that you were taken. You were always taken.
"Oh, right." Satoru gives an exaggerated sigh, fully leaning on you. "Work. What a shame."Â
You nod, clearly thinking the conversation is done with. Satoru wasn't so charitable.Â
"Y'know, you don't really have to work. Not anymore, pretty girl." His grip on your waist tightens ever so slightly as he pulls you towards his chest. Your hands freeze. The knife glints in your fingers.Â
"I make plenty of money. You should just stay home. That way, you don't have to work shitty hours."Â
You stiffen underneath his fingertips. He's disappointed when your skin turns frigid. When he peeks over your shoulder, intent to look at your face, there's a nervous smile twitching on your lips.Â
"I don't think that's a good idea..." you trail off hesitantly.Â
"Hm?" He tilts his head with faux confusion. "Why not?"Â
The knife moves up and down, as though you can't decide whether to place it back on the cutting board. Satoru realizes it's your way of fidgeting.Â
"It...it would just be unprofessional to leave when everything is so hectic." You finally decide on.Â
Satoru scoffs. "So? Who cares. I'm sure everything will work itself out. Just rely on me, pretty girl."Â
You don't like the answer, but you don't make a comment on it. Satoru just watches you rotate the knife in your hands. He wonders if you want to use it on him. Slice at his neck, leave him out to bleed on the pretty tile floor. Cut straight through his heart, ending it quickly.Â
Or would you like to carve out his eye and keep it as a souvenir? He thinks he'd happily let you. It sounds romantic.
You don't do anything. Instead, you pull back your shoulders as if you're physically ready for war.Â
"'Toru," you say gently, softly, and it works in his eyes, "I...can't let you support me like this. It's not right. It's not like we're married or anything." You laugh, like it's a joke. Satoru doesn't cave.Â
"I mean, not yet." Satoru rocks you back and forth in his hold. "But gimme' some time to shop for a ring, okay? It needs to be perfect for my perfect girl."Â
You follow his movements. He can see your mouth twitch out of the corner of his eye. Your eyes get glassy.Â
He knows he's terrible, but he really wants you to crack.Â
"You're right, Satoru." You say, "I'll put in my two weeks tomorrow." He grins in delight.Â
"That's a great idea, baby." Satoru kisses you on the cheek.
Right, you pick your battles.Â
âŸ
Satoru tells you he loves you, and you're gone, not even three days later.Â
He breaks and shatters into pieces he'll never be able to put back. Each day without you is torture. He feels like a corpse, just going through the motions. His clothes feel looser. His skin doesn't feel like his own anymore. Every time he looks in the mirror, he sees someone he barely even recognizes.Â
It's like you left with his heart.Â
No, you ran away with his soul.Â
One day, you were Satoru's, safely tucked underneath his arm...the next, you just weren't.Â
His parents don't acknowledge it beyond casual disgust. Every time Suguru talks to him, Satoru can barely comprehend it. Days pass by. Everything reminds him of you. His bed feels emptier; he hates it when he reaches out to the space you used to take up and finds it cold. Your locker remains untouched. Nothing is ever the same.Â
Satoru tries looking for you, but you're untraceable. No social media, no friends left to tell where you went, not even your fucking parents know where you are.Â
You left him.Â
You left him to rot.Â
Denial comes first. It can't be. You wouldn't. You wouldn't fucking dare. Anger seeps in the next. For weeks, Satoru can only imagine what he'll do when he finds you. He'll break your legs this time. He'll squeeze your neck so hard that your head pops. He'll kill you over and over again until your corpse is begging to be forgiven. And he won't ever stop, because you're Satoru's.Â
That doesn't stay for long. He feels himself get weaker day by day. Food tastes like dirt on his tongue. Any of his earlier vices are gone.Â
He misses you.Â
Why wouldn't he? You were his everything.Â
Like all things, it passes. You aren't there to fuel the flames, so the fire wanes in his chest. The ache in his heart gets smaller and smaller. Things keep him busy. College. Then, his new position in the office.Â
Ten years pass. Heâs forgotten what you look like. But he remembers parts. Every so often, he sees a flicker of you within someone else. Your eyes are on another womanâs face. Your lips on a girl's smile. It irritates him to no end. Itâs even worse when he starts seeking them out, keeping those parts of them for just the night.Â
Sometimes, if he closes his eyes, he can still hear your voiceâwhat he thinks is your voiceâsoft, needy Toru Toru Toru.Â
âGojo, sir?âÂ
He blinks. Ijichi stands in front of him. Satoru looks down at the meticulously crafted pages.Â
âMr. Higuruma needed you to sign this,â Ijichi lifts a paper filled with bureaucratic bullshit he pays other people to understand.
Why did Suguru take off now?Â
âSure sure,â Satoru says, âIâll get it done.âÂ
Ijichi shifts nervously. âWell, itâd be best to finish it right now, Sir. His paralegal is just about to leave the building.âÂ
Oh, right. The lawyerâs assistant. Gojo could never get a good look at that person, but the assistant resembled a shaking deer to him at most times. Heâs not even sure if theyâve ever talked to each other, but he always found the other a bit odd. Big eyes. A shaky expression.Â
It was a little annoying to look at.Â
âŸ
Some executive was throwing an office gala, and since he is Gojo Satoru, he needed to come along.Â
And since you are Satoru's, you're dragged along too.Â
Honestly, the only upside to this is you and that new dress he bought you. A velvet turquoise dress that he can't take his eyes off of. The gold jewelry draped across your neck makes you even more delectable. But his favorite part of the outfit is the shimmering diamond ring.Â
The ceremony hadn't been anything extravagant. He'd just booked out one of his favorite restaurants, ordering lobster and sweet wine. He remembered hearing his heartbeat when he bent down on one knee, opening the elegant ringbox, like an oyster revealing its pearl. Looking back, he didn't know why he was so nervous: it's not like you'd say no.Â
"What do you think of it?" He asked when you were back in his bed, bare from everything except that glistening ring.Â
"It's pretty." You spoke, perfectly nestled in his chest.Â
He feels in his heart when he hugs you, a small kiss in your hair. You say something, but he can't hear it; he is too preoccupied with feeling you in his arms. It's still so new, even after all these weeks. It's the anxiety, knowing at any second you could leave and he'd be nothing. He won't allow that, he can't.Â
"I thought about something else, y'know?" He speaks quietly in your hair. "Ropes, chains, maybe. I could keep you here, forever. Butâbut then I realized how sad you'd get. I couldn't go through with it."Â
You give no reaction. When he tilts your chin up to get a better look at you, your eyes are glassy.Â
"You get that, right?"Â
You nod. He's really too nice, sometimes.Â
He spends the entire evening with you, tucked away in a corner, away from prying eyes. Just because he has to be there doesn't mean he has to be sociable. Every time someone walks up to him and you, a drink in one hand, he resists the urge to bite their head off, feigning politeness. He complains about their lack of decorum to you multiple times throughout the night, his head resting on your shoulder. You pliantly sit there, listening and nodding.Â
About ten minutes after the last board member left, someone else walks up. By then, Satoru's patience has mostly declined. He peers over with disdain before he can really process who he's seeing.Â
"Suguru!" He waves over.Â
You stiffen, and Satoru remembers you haven't seen him in ten years.Â
Suguru walks over with an easy smile on his face. He's nicely tanned, and Satoru is reminded of the pictures he sent over of the Maldives. Maybe that's where the honeymoon should be.Â
"Had fun slacking?" Satoru asks with a grin; Suguru shrugs.Â
When his eyes meet yours, he feigns delighted surprise. Suguru speaks your name with practiced shock. It's imperfect, only Satoru can see the amusement dripping from his fangs.Â
"Long time, no see!" Effortlessly, Suguru corrals you into a hug. You follow, giving into the cold touch of affection before pulling away back to him.Â
"Hello, Geto." You say when you're rightfully by his side again. "It's nice to see you again."Â
Suguru laughs, light and airy. "You as well!" He looks at your hands, tilts his head. "Oh? Congratulations, you two! When's the date?"Â
"Eh, we'll figure that out later." Satoru gives a quick kiss on your cheek. "Everything happened so fast, y'know? Us reuniting and everything: It feels like fate." Suguru's eyes flash. "Let's not rush this. We'll take our time."Â
Suguru nods along thoughtfully. He's looking right at you, and you stare right back. Not used to feeling left out, Satoru is quick to intervene.Â
The conversation is light, two long-time friends reuniting after a long spell. You stay quiet like decor, settling into Satoru's side. Suguru doesn't acknowledge you after that.Â
"We gotta' go. It's getting late." He eventually says, tugging you along.Â
Suguru gives a pleasant smile. "Of course, of course. We should catch up sometime." He directs this at you. You give a strained smile before Satoru leads you off.Â
"Suguru." The man turns. Satoru grins.Â
"I loved my gift. Thanks, man."Â
Suguru's smile is catlike.Â
"You kids have fun." He calls out right when Satoru's dragging you away all over again.Â
You're silent. Not in the way you usually are, pliant and cute. You're thinking. He gives you a nudge.Â
"What's goin' on in that pretty head of yours?"Â
You shake your head. "Nothing." And then you say, "He's changed."Â
From your view, Satoru supposed that's true, but reallyâ
"Nah." Gojo shakes his head. "He's just dropped his act."Â
Satoru's hand was wrapped around your waist when you two ran into him. You hadn't noticed him yet, eyes fixed on the floor. The lawyer hadn't changed since the last time Satoru saw him. That dead expression, those creepy eyes. Higuruma's eyes flit over your figure, before he finds Satoru's.Â
He stares. Satoru stares right back. Something gives, and the lawyer calls out your name.Â
"How are you?" His tone is cool, and this is another reason why Satoru can't stand him. The guy has no tells. He's just a talking robot.Â
Unlike you, fidgeting by his side, practically vibrating with nerves.Â
"I'm fine, sir." Your smile gets more painful to look at by the second.Â
Your voice earns you a tired smile, a mild pinch of humor. Higuruma shakes his head, waving you off.Â
"No need for formalities. We aren't at work." His smile drops just a bit, as he watches you for a bit more, eyes flickering to your hand. "I was...surprised when I saw the announcement. I didn't know you and Mr. Gojo were involved."Â
Satoru grins, making himself known like a shark in the water. His grip on you tightens.Â
"Oh, you didn't tell your boss 'bout us, baby?" He looks down at you with cruel mirth, pinching your cheek. You wilt. "We go way backâhighschool sweethearts. Lost contact for a couple years. It's actually thanks to you we were able to find each other again. We'll send you the invites." He presses a kiss to your hairline.Â
Higuruma hums at that. Satoru expected jealousy in his eyes; he's even more upset when he finds none.Â
"I'll be sure to save the date."Â
Then he shuts Satoru down completely.Â
"I heard about your resignation. It's sad to see you go," Higuruma says.Â
You nod, but you don't look at him. "Satoru and I talked about it, and we decided it's best if I focused on other things."Â
"Very, very busy, this one nowadays." Satoru interrupts. "Between wedding plannin' and all that."
"Is that so?" Higuruma says dismissively, "in any case, you already knew this, but I've begun preparations to start a new firm." He reaches into his wallet, pulling out a card. "I always thought you were good at what you do. If you ever want to get back into the industry, call me."Â
You take the laminate slip with a quiet thank you. Satoru feels blue turn into red.Â
When Higuruma slips into the party, Satoru tightens his grip on you a little harsher than necessary. He's dragging you through the halls. Behind him, he can hear you stumbling over your heels, begging him to slow down. He knows he should care, but he doesn't. That damn lawyer. Those dead eyes. Mocking him.Â
"Did you fuck him?" He asks when his anger has reached a high enough peak that he presses you against the wall.Â
Your eyes are wild, flitting back and forth. He'd your expression a little cute if he wasn't feeling like a furnace, at the moment.Â
"No. Iâwe never." You say. "Mr. Higuruma was my boss. Andâand he's marriedâ"Â
"Really? 'cause you're precious 'Mr. Higuruma' was eyeing you up and down like he's already seen what's underneath."Â
"'Toru." You plead. "Let'sâlet's just talk about this at home. Please? Let's just go home." Home. You said that word again. If he were a better man, he'd melt, but he's not.Â
"Shut up." He spits out. "Hike up your dress."Â
You stare at him. Then, you try to smile, like he's making a shitty joke. It wavers on your lips.Â
"It's...we're still in public." You whisper and it's so cute you think he'd actually care about that. "Weâwe can't...we shouldn'tâ"Â
"Baby." His voice drops, as he licks at your neck. "Pull up your dress, get rid of those panties. Otherwise, I'm just gonna take it off myself."Â
He doesn't need to explain anything further. You already get what he's saying. Right now, Satoru doesn't care if you leave this building with your clothes intact.Â
He thinks the worst part is that he knows he's being unreasonable. He's backing you into a corner where you'll have no choice but to surrender, and he knows that, but he keeps thinking about those man's eyes and how he looked at you and it was just all so much.Â
He'll apologize to you later, with flowers and shiny gold earrings. He'd give you the world; just be good for him now.Â
He just needs his fix. So just be good for him now.
âŸ
When Satoru discovers it's been you all along, he feels like an idiot.Â
In a pathetic way of defending himself, he convinces himself there's no way he could have recognized you. You're so different compared to your high-school self. 18-years old, fresh-eyed, naive. The you now is all grown up: a mature voice, a new hairstyle, clothes he'd never even think you'd wear.Â
It also didn't help that he couldn't even see your face since you turned away every time he looked at you.Â
Embarrassing. He's just glad Suguru wasn't here to call his blunder.Â
He thought about it a lot. He spent an hour in his office, pacing around, doing nothing but thinking and thinking and thinking. Part of him wants to corner you already. He can already feel your rabbit heartbeat on his fingertips, the look you always had in your eyes when he was right in front of you. Part of him wants to ruin your life the same way you ruined his. He wants to tear you apart, piece by piece. Leave you in tattered pieces.Â
But he can't do that. Satoru still loves you.Â
You left him a hollow shell. Broken. Tainted. There are pieces of him he still can't find. He should hurt you. He's hurt other people for doing less. But they weren't you. Even after all those years, he's never quite stopped loving you.Â
But he wants to sate his bloodlust, just a tiny bit.Â
His perfect opportunity comes where he, the lawyer, and you are all sitting in one of the waiting rooms. The lawyers explaining something, possibly about the ongoing case. Satoru doesn't really care. Besides, this is what Ijichi's here for.Â
He waits until everyone is quiet. You're unassuming. By then, your shoulders have lowered, like you think you've gotten away with itÂ
"Hey," he says, "do we know each other?"Â
The other two don't bother, but you stop completely. The pen in your grip shakes. Satoru resists the urge to laugh.Â
You timidly glance up like you're still delusional enough to think there's a fifth person he's talking to. Satoru has always been told his eyes are like two suns: bright and intense. He lowers his glasses. You wilt under the solar flares.Â
"Hm?" He prods, enjoying the way you shrivel. "Have we?"Â
You swallow, glassy eyes flicking from side to side. Finally, you clear your throat.Â
"No." You mutter, voice barely a whisper. "I don't think we have."Â
"Are you sure?" To intensify the magnifying glass, he leans closer, like he's examining you. "'cause you look really familiar."Â
To his delight, you chew on your bottom lip. He can imagine biting it until it's bloody and raw. He stops just when you're about to shatter completely. Breaking you too soon would take the fun out of it.Â
"Oh, wait. I don't think that was you." He relents, pulling back and he can see the relief ooze over your face. "I think I got you mixed up with someone who interviewed here a couple months ago. My bad. Maybe you have one of those faces."Â
You nod, eager to take the out.Â
"Yes," you quickly say, "one of those faces."Â
How adorable. You haven't changed since high school.Â
He's usually not this obvious, but Suguru isn't here to berate him about it and it's not like anyone else will get on his ass. The women he brings in are his usuals: tall models with full lips and perfect bodies. Satoru parades them around like expensive jewelry. He wants to see you seethe in envy, stew in it. He wants you to see what you abandoned.Â
But you don't do any of that. You just sit there, like the dutiful little workbee you are, right by your boss's side.
And then, you give one of them your jacket. Satoru can't stand it wrapped around her waist like she fucking owns itâown you. She wears it so flagrantly, like any token from you shouldn't be worshipped and coveted. He hates it. He hates it.Â
"I've never done this in an office before." She squeals when she shuts the door behind her. "So, how do youâ"Â
"Get out."Â
The girl pauses. What was her name again? Satou was too pissed to give a single shit.Â
"Um, what?"Â
"What, you deaf or something?" He waves her off as if he weren't seething. "Get out."Â
"Oh," she says, blinks, and then she takes a step back.Â
"Wait." Satoru stops her.Â
"Take that off." He points to your jacket. She does it with zero complaints. When he tells her to drop it on the chair, she follows that too. Reluctant expectation. Kind of like you. Maybe that's why he was initially invested in her.Â
He only takes the fabric after she's gone. It's soft underneath his fingertips. Nothing designer, but good quality. When you're finally underneath him again, he'll buy you better clothes, all the jackets you want.Â
He needs you. He can't wait anymore.Â
He needs you, whether you want him or not.Â
âŸ
Satoru wakes up to something crashing.Â
It's faint, obviously coming from the bathroom. Not the best way to be woken up. He remembers the first few nights he brought you home. He'd hear you crying in your sleep, choking on tiny sobs. It was the sweetest little thing, like a whimpering puppy.Â
These noises are a little more concerning.Â
He yawns, sliding out of bed. You didn't bother locking the door. You didn't even close it all the way, either. A sliver of light comes from the crack before he pushes it open.Â
"Baby?" He calls. You don't answer.Â
You had knocked over a caddy. Toothbrushes, hairclips, soap dispensers, perfume bottles were scattered all over the floor. You're curled up in the corner of the bathroom, huddled right next to the tub. You seem physically okay, no blood, no bruising, but he can't see your face. And you're shivering.Â
Satoru's about to call out to you, when he steps on something. He looks down at the tiles.Â
A positive pregnancy test.Â
"I'm not keeping it." Your voice is hoarse, like you've been crying for hours. "I'm not keeping it."Â
"Pretty girl." He coos, trying his best to keep the glee out of his voice and failing. "Let's not worry 'bout that, right now. C'mon, let's get you off the floor." He reaches for your hand. You smack it away. It stung.Â
When you look at him, eyes bloodshot and brimming with angry tears, Satoru's heart skips a beat. He feels like he just trapped a wild animal, making it pace in a corner. Any wrong move could result in his hand getting bit off. It's scary.Â
He's finally cracked you.Â
"Fuck you." Your voice shakes and wobbles, but it's loud and you're clear. "Fuck you. You're a sick, twisted man-child. You ruined everything. You ruined my entire life andâand now youâ"Â
You're cut off by his giggling. It sounds psychotic even to his ears. He's beyond caring. You flinch when lifts your face up, forcing you to look into his eyes. He's smiling so hard it hurts.Â
"Yeah, I did that. I ruined you. I ruined your entire fucking life. For me." He stresses, squeezing your face so hard you try to pull away. "But I had to. Youâyou wouldn't be here if I didn't." He sighs, pressing your body to his. "I need you."
You're both huddled on the bathroom floor, captive and lover. He's clutching you to his chest, smiling, nestling his face in your hair. You don't say anything for a while.Â
"I'm not keeping it." You whisper. "I'm not. I wouldn't stand it if it ended up like you."Â
It's spiteful. You're still in that phase where you think your venom can hurt him, as though he'd see your blows as anything but blessings. Satoru thinks to his own childhood. Where he was given everything, lathered in gold and silver. Yet, the house was always cold. But you were always so warm.Â
"That won't happen." He tells you. "'cause you're here."Â
Your anger has dwindled to smoke. Maybe you've finally realized how crazy he was for you.Â
"Please let me go." It's not a beg. It's not even a request.Â
"I can't," he honestly says.Â
"You won't." You correct him.Â
He smiles in your hair.Â
"No baby," he says, "I can't."Â
If you ran away again, if you escaped his claws, he'd probably die. Drop dead, rot on the floor. He needs you. Even more than he needs food, water, and oxygen. You won't understand that. You've never been in love before.Â
You don't fight him. If anything, you sink into his hold. He's there to catch you, heart soaring. You lean into his chestÂ
"I hate you." You whisper. His heart beats a little faster. It's probably the first time you've ever been so honest with him.Â
God, he loves you.Â
"I hope our baby has your eyes," he says.Â
"I hope our baby looks exactly like you."Â
You say nothing, but when he leans down to kiss you, you finally kiss back. You're cracked, and your essence is ready to be molded in his image, just like he's always wanted you to be.Â
If Satoru is the Sun, then you must certainly be his universe, the plane in which he rests, because there would be no existence for him if not for you.Â

Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
Cats and Their Men Masterlist.
âSir, Iâm telling you.â You sit up a little more, âyou cannot get a rabies shot from the vet.â You canât believe what youâre hearing but also, you can believe it. âIf you are worried that you have rabies then you need to go to the doctor.â Youâve repeated this so much that the man finally leaves in a huff. Well not before cussing you out for being a bitch to him. âNot shopping here anymore, my ass.â Mocking how he yelled that out before he left the store.
You take a breather when you start to get worked up. Rubbing your face like one would a cat, the smock youâre wearing is slightly wet and itâs making your skin prickle. You managed to get Jessica to let you start bathing two days ago. You figured it would be easier than working the register up front. Boy⊠were you wrong. The dogs are great, usually, but the pet owners or âPet Parentsâ as the groomers say are not great, mostly.
Your eyes flicker over to the computer, you were making a ton of cold call to entice people to take their dogs in for bath or haircut when that guy was very insistent about needing to a rabies shot. âCanât believe thisââ you start off but something catches your eyes. A man with a beard and a dark blue beanie is walking by holding some kitten salmon bags. A cat is walking right behind him. âUh, sir!â
You stand up and come around to greet him. He must notâve heard you with how he still walks. âSir!â You yell a little louder and he pauses, turns around and looks at you. âYour cat,â you point down to the cat thatâs now licking their toe beans. âThey need to be leashed or in a kennel. They canât be walking around.â Itâs not safe, especially with other animals. The cat could get lost or worse! You start walking towards him, you plan on offering to help at least hold his cat for him.
He looks where you pointed and then looks at you coming up to him. âThatâs not mine.â
You blink at him, your hands start to land on your hip. Youâve heard a lot of dumb things today but this is taking the cake. âReally?â You squint at him when the cat starts to rub at the manâs leg. âSir, I understand that they are doing well by staying by you but itâs not safeââ
âMiss,â he cuts you off, he moves the kitten food to one arm, âI donât have a cat.â He leans a little on his side, his chin tucks to his chest. Thereâs a spark of amusement in his deep blue eyes.
You canât believe this. Heâs holding kitten food in his hands, granted that cat isnât a kitten but still! You take a deep breath, your patience has been running from you and you try to catch it once more. âSir, the catââ just as youâre about your speech a man starts running up in your peripheral.
âAh, there you are, love!â A familiar sound comes from the side, a dashing smile as always and slightly messed up face. âWas wondering if Iâd catch you againâ Sir?â Kyle turns from you and then looks slightly shocked. They know each other? âWhat are you?â He trails off when he sees the bag, âOh, youâre cat sitting, I thought Johnny was gonna cat sit Bailey?â His arms cross a little, the puzzled look on his face brightens when he spots the cat doing a figure eight around the bearded manâs legs.
The manâs lips thin into a line, âJohnnyâs needed, he had to head out.â Sadly, he ignores the cats affection, and then the older man looks from you to Kyle and then back to you. Something mustâve clicked in his head as his heavy brows lift just the slightest âI donât have a cat, Miss,â he says to you, âbloke probably followed me in.â Kyle comes close and crouches, squatting right in front of the man. The cat perks up and nudges right against Kyleâs waiting hand.
âLooks like you, sir.â And the cat kinda does, thereâs matching brown on the cats face, almost like a beard, and deep blue eyes, same as the manâs. âJust missing a cigar and fishing hat. Or beanie.â
âGarrick.â The older manâs voice is tight and looks on the edge of sounding like authority.
âSir?â Kyle seems either none the wiser or is purposefully playing ignorant. He looks up with a grin, âit's fate, thatâs your cat now.â He laughs and the older man looks none too happy. âCat distribution center is at it again. Johnny will not be pleased one bit.â
âI donât want the cat.â He looks to you and you shake your head side to side, same for your hands as you shake them in front of you.
âSir, we canât hold animals here.â
The man sighs long suffering like and Kyle laughs a little louder. âFace it, John,â he moves his hand down the cats back, who is now purring up a storm at all the loving, âheâs yours,â he lifts the cat's leg slightly to see the gender and the cat must think Kyleâs playing. He lets out a little noise and proceeds to curl and grip Kyleâs hand. Bunny kicking and licking at Kyleâs fingers. âPlayful little guy.â Wiggling his hands some more and the cat pounces.
John, now that you know his name itâs rather suiting for him, tilts his head back with a sigh. The dark blue beanie heâs wearing scrunches slightly at the top. He mutters something under his breath about needing a smoke. Kyle continues playing with the cat and you wonder if thatâs how heâs gotten more cuts on his hands and face. His kitty probably plays too roughly.
But, what are the odds that 3 men are back to back finding cats? You laugh a little and John tilts his head down towards you. Your laughter does and give him a sheepish smile, âdonât laugh now, sweetheart. Youâre gonna help me with him.â His beard moves slightly as he looks none too happy. His cat really does look a little like him. Grumpy. You look to the empty grooming salon and then back at the two. Kyle has long since stood with the cat now up in his arms.
âWonder if heâs old,â Kyle muses as he stands beside you, you in the middle of the two walls of man and muscle. âWould be a real match, eh, John?â The little nudge at age merely makes the older gent huff a laugh.
âDonât test me, Garrick.â Thereâs no real bite in his words save for the twinkle in his eyes. You excuse yourself to go grab a cart for the two men, the grooming salon is as empty as can be. Jess can handle it, you think with a shrug as you walk on back. Pushing the cart and when you get close, you hear that theyâre discussing names. Well, Kyle is at least.
âCould call him John Jr.â he holds up the cat a little, âbeard boy, cigar, wonderer.â His names get worse and worse and you finally step in with aâ
âHow about Louis?â Both men look at you and you shuffle under their gaze, âthatâs an old man name. I donât really think the catâs old though. Maybe 3 or 4 years old?â
Thereâs a little pause and you wonder if you should have went back to the grooming salon. âOld man name, huh?â John places the salmon kitten bag in the cart and quirks a brow to you. Kyle plops the cat down in the cart and already heâs off to sniffing the contents. âJust looks old, got a good amount of years left on him though. Ainât that right, boy?â He moves his hand slowly to the cat. Louis purrs deeply and rubs right against his dadâs hand. Kyle says something, probably a tease, but youâre too entranced at what you see. A man that oozes strict authority, is being incredibly gentle in petting.
You really do need to work on your judgement. âSpeaking of names,â you cough slightly, looking to Kyle whoseâs already grabbing a nice looking cat bed. 2 to exact, his cat is definitely spoiled, âWhatâd you name your girl after all?â
âOh, yeah, thatâŠâ He gives a small smile making your brows turn up. You think the worst, you really hope he didnât give her away but you donât know his circumstance or his home life. Just before you spiral he speaks, âdonât laugh, but her name is Marina.â You breathe a sigh of relief you didnât know your were holding in. But you start to look downright puzzled at why he think youâd laugh. âSheâs,â Kyle starts, he seems a little squirmy now, âsheâs named after that lady on Sinbad⊠you know⊠the one with Eris in it and Sinbad had toââ it starts to click.
âOh!â Your noise alerts Louis who was making biscuits on one of the beds, âI remember that movie. Very regal sounding and I think itâs very fitting considering Marina was a bit sassy.â You loved her character in that movie. âSheâll look even cuter in that pirate costume with a name like that.â
âThank you,â he sighs in relief, âJohnny thought it was dumb. Wanted to name her Rugrat,â he scowls, âcourse he was taking a piss but still.â
âWell,â you pull a face at that, âthis Johnny has no idea what heâs talking about. I thought you said he was good with names?â
Johnâs eyes squint as he scoffs. âHe canât name shit.â Heâs heard all the stupid names that the Scot has given his bombs. Cannot hear about another âBoomBoomâ or âBigboomingâ without wanting to roll his eyes. Hard.
You laugh at this Johnnyâs expense. You have a feeling that with the way this has been going⊠youâll probably meet him sooner rather than later. Itâs a real small world that the men youâre talking to also happens to be friend. Weird coincidencesâŠ
You end up joking back and forth with Kyle the entire time you take them around the store. Kyleâs been picking up more things for his baby and Louis is snoozing on the cat bed like the âold manâ that he is. You give John the full rundown just like the two men before. He takes in your information like youâre giving him instructions on how to build a ship, very laser focused. Every time you looked away heâd follow you to keep eye contact. Your cheeks have never been warmerâŠ
Eventually you get them both back to the grooming salon. Rather than making them go up front you use the register here to start scanning their items. Even slid them some coupons and discounts much to Johnâs strong disagreement. You bagged all their items and passed them both their receipts, giving Louis one last rubbing that wakes the old grump up. You quietly apologized for your transgressions and wave at the men once they take their leave. John gives a nod but Kyle waves back, you barely catch what Kyle says as they start walking away.
ââŠmâs gonna be back this week or next, sir?â
âThis week, Gaz. Now help me load my truck.â
âYes, sir. Johnny is gonna be livid that you have a cat now.â

It was late evening when your DDD started ringing. An unusual time for someone to call unless they were either drunk or in mortal peril. This occasion happened to be the latter.
Karasu's caller ID flashed a photo of Luke across the screen after the first ring. The angel was always early to bed and early to rise and never called without good reason, so you scrambled to answer, moving so fast that your finger slipped and you initially missed the right button.
"Hello?" you said. It took a moment for the call to connect.
"Hi... Sorry, umm, is now a good time?"
Luke sounded close to tears. He was trying to keep himself composed for your sake, but the distressed warble in his voice betrayed him. By the sound of things, he wasn't in his bedroom. He wasn't even in the living room or kitchen of Purgatory Hall. It was somewhere small, where his voice echoed off the walls.
"Luke, are you okay? Where are you?"
You recognized the sound of splashing water when he sniffled just before responding, "I'm in the bath."
It was an odd answer, but at least he was somewhere safe. So, why was he crying?
"Did Solomon feed you anything weird?"
"No, that's not it." Luke took a deep breath and winced. The sounds of agitated water accompanied his explanation. "You see... Simeon got a new shampoo that smells like cloudberries, and I really wanted to try some. Just a little bit, honest! But it came out of the bottle really fast, and it fell into my eyes." The crying began in earnest. "It really hurts and now I can't get it out of my eyes and Simeon's going to find out I used his shampoo without asking."
You felt slightly thankful that Solomon wasn't using the little angel as his food taster, but his small sobs over such a small matter made your heart ache.
"I'm going blind as punishment for stealing Simeon's shampoo," he confessed.
"Hey! Hey, no you're not! It's going to be okay!" you assured him. "You're not going to go blind. Listen. Turn on the faucet and try to splash some clean water in your eyes. Also, keep crying."
The sound of a running faucet could be heard through the phone. "Why? Will my tears prove that I'm repenting and weaken the punishment?"
"It'll... uh, yeah? Yeah, sure. It will also rinse the shampoo out of your eye so they stop stinging, but it'll do that, too."
There was a soft thud as Luke set his DDD down, followed by several minutes of loud splashing noises and weeping. He was having a tough time. You tried to be encouraging, unsure if he could hear you or not, by chiming in with the occasional "you're doing great!" and "hang in there!"
The tears came to a stop and Luke turned the faucet off. There was a beat of silence, followed by him exclaiming from afar, "it worked!"
He picked the phone back up. "It worked! I can see again! It doesn't hurt as much! Thank you! I'm so glad I called." The boy sounded like he was crying again, this time in relief. He had his usual cheery demeanor back.
"Everything OK now?"
"Yeah! I really owe you. I have to go tell Simeon what I did now, but I'll properly thank you tomorrow at school."
You wondered what sort of treats he would present. A drain popped open and you heard the water swirling away. Your muscles were still tense from concern, but the emergency had been swiftly dealt with.
"Glad I could help. Be sure to get lots of sleep, okay? You need to rest your eyes."
You could tell Luke was nodding even if you couldn't see him. "Got it!"
"Good night, Luke."
"Good night!"

Hotter Than Expected - Bang Chan
How you found out your boyfriend canât handle spicy food.

Chris and you had been dating for a little while now â long enough to feel comfortable around each other but still new enough that the little things felt exciting. Tonight, he was over at your apartment, lounging on the couch while you scrolled through your favorite food delivery app.
âAlright,â you said, clicking confirm on the order. âI hope you like this place. Their food is amazing.â
âIâm sure itâll be great,â Chris replied, giving you that warm smile that always made your stomach flutter. âWhat did you get?â
âJust some of my usual favorites. I think youâll like it.â
âHowâs the spicyness?â he asked, leaning forward with genuine interest.
You laughed lightly, shaking my head. âItâs got a little kick but isnât too bad.â
He nodded, seemingly unfazed by your comment. Little did you know, Chris wasnât exactly the best with spice. But wanting to impress you, he figured heâd be fine.
When the food finally arrived, you both sat down at the table, the aroma of the meal filling the air. Chris took his first bite, and at first, he thought he could handle it. But then the heat hit him. It crept up slowly, coating his tongue in a fiery burn that only intensified with every second. His eyes widened slightly, but he tried to play it cool.
âOh,â he murmured. âOh, wow.â
âHow is it?â you asked, happily eating your own food.
âGood!â he said, voice just a little too high-pitched to be convincing. He grabbed his drink and took a sip, but it did little to help. Still, he was determined to push through. He took another biteâ
Mistake. Big mistake.
The heat doubled. His mouth felt like it was on fire. He shot up from his seat, the chair lightly scraping against the floor. You blinked, confused as he started pacing back and forth, fanning himself with his hand.
âUh⊠are you okay?â you asked, concerned.
âY-yeah, totally fine,â he choked out, but the glint of sweat on his forehead and the way he was now grabbing his shirt, pulling it away from his burning skin, said otherwise. âItâs so hot in here.â
You stared at him for a second before realization dawned on you. âOh my God, is it too spicy for you?â
Chris opened his mouth to argue, but at that moment, the heat surged again, and he had to take a deep breath as he ran his hand through his hair.
âOkay, wait, I think I have some milk⊠or maybe bread?,â you said, trying not to laugh as you rushed to the fridge.
You handed him a glass, and he practically chugged it in one go. But even after that, he couldnât sit still. He walked in circles, sat down, then immediately got back up again. At one point, he even lifted his shirt slightly, fanning himself again, but quickly let it go as if remembering that things were still new between you two.
You bit your lip, watching him with pure amusement. When he finally sat down again, you couldnât hold back anymore.
âSoâŠâ you drawled, smirking. âYou donât manage spicy food very well, do you?â
Chris shot you a glare, cheeks flushed (whether from embarrassment or the spice, you werenât sure). âOkay, first of all,â he said, voice still slightly strained, âthis is not just âa little kickâ. This is fire. This is lava.â
You burst out laughing. âOh, poor baby. I didnât think your spice tolerance was that bad.â
He groaned, dropping his head onto the table dramatically. âI wanted to impress you.â
âThatâs cute,â you teased, reaching over to ruffle his hair. âBut next time, weâll make sure to order something mild for you.â
Chris finally lifted his head, blinking up at you. His lips were still tinged red from the spice, but at least he wasnât gasping for air anymore. âI can feel my mouth again,â he muttered, sounding both relieved and mildly traumatized.
Unable to resist, you leaned in with a smirk. â... but for someone who handles spice so well,â you teased, raising a brow, âIâd think youâd have an easier time with a little heat.â
Chris groaned, but couldnât help a small smile. âNot the same thing, and you know it.â
âMmm, sure. Whatever you say, babe.â
