Hey, @confused-they, this is for you and for everyone else who wanted more of this AU. Merry Christmas.
DPxDC Ring of Rage? More Like Ring of Engage [pt. 4]
[<- part 3]
[Written to 'Tantrum' by Ashnikko]
TW: mentioned mild gore (some inside parts become outside ones, nothing graphic)
Tim can't breathe.
Joker's mad laughter is ringing through the darkness of the warehouse, echoing in his head, the screeching sound straight out of nightmares. Hood should be nearby - as in, somewhere in this darkness along with him - but Tim can't think about that, his own maniacal giggles bubbling in the back of his throat, a grin tugging at his lips.
He has to get up. He has to stand, he has to fight, and it really shouldn't be this hard.
But he can't breathe.
Tim clutches his fingers on the fabric of his suit on the chest, distantly wondering if this is how Danny feels when he is more human than ghost. Probably not, he mentioned that breathing is only optional.
He really wants his boyfriend right now. His fiance. Whatever, he wants Danny, he wants his cold hands on his cheeks and the faint, humming purr of his core that Tim finds nice to fall asleep to, and-
Maybe later. He can't exactly summon him now, not in the middle of a fight, especially not in the middle of a fight with Joker of all people.
There's an angry growl somewhere to Tim's left, staticky through the voice-modulator. Then several sounds of gunshots and a gleeful, taunting yell of the madman.
Hold on.
Tim snaps his eyes open - not that anything changes, everything is still pitch-black around him - and blinks.
Why not?..
It's not like Danny is a civilian. Tim tends to pay little attention to the fact since the King of Infinite Realms doesn't hang out with the whole superhero convention on principle. But Tim is pretty sure he won't mind it this once.
Besides, Tim is so done with Joker that it's not even funny.
A few breathy chuckles escape his throat as he lets his body fully slump back on the floor and brings his left hand to his face, placing a quick kiss on the Ring through his glove. He doesn't need to do that, not really, but it's kind of a ritual at this point, and the gesture somehow makes him feel better.
"Danny," he whispers.
For a long moment, nothing happens.
Then, there's a soft, popping sound, and his beautiful boyfriend is floating right over him, faintly glowing and a little sleepy. Tim is momentarily distracted by his bare feet and pj pants with tiny rockets on them.
Danny yawns and tugs the hem of his t-shirt down as it starts to float. "Whas'sup," he mutters, rubbing his eyes and clearly not fully awake, and Tim's heart melts instantly. He loves Danny. He just... He loves him, okay? He loves that Danny didn't question his summons for a moment, he loves that he came even though he was obviously sleeping, and he loves that Danny is wearing a tee he stole from Tim.
Unfortunately, before he is able to get his shit back together, another sound of gunshot ripples through the air, and Danny startles, blinking himself awake and looking in the direction of it. Then, his eyebrows shoot up, and his mouth makes a soft 'O' shape before he turns back to Tim and tilts his head in question.
"You want me to deal with him? The clown, I mean, not your brother," he asks, and it's so casual and off-handed that Tim actually huffs a laugh.
"Sorry, I was just- I'm really tired of his ass," Tim should probably sit up, this is not a talk they should have while he is lying on the ground. On the other hand, Jason is somewhere out there, and he has guns and doesn't have a clear visual around him, so maybe Tim shouldn't sit up.
Danny hums, "Is that a yes?"
Tim just nods. He is pretty sure Danny can see him despite the darkness. "I promise it's a one-time thing, I don't plan on calling you every time one of local lunatics acts up. I just... I fucking can't with him," he admits with a defeated sigh. But, before he can spiral any further into the abyss of unworthiness, Danny's cold hands are cupping his cheeks, and his icy eyes are looking right into Tim's sky blue.
"Love, I don't mind getting rid of each and every one of your Rogues. Granted, it would probably fuck up the timeline, and Clocky would be mad, but I'd do it if you want me to, no questions asked." His voice is quiet, and Tim has never been more grateful for his domino mask, because he can feel his cheeks heating up and he doesn't want Danny to see the exact effect his words are causing.
"I- Okay," he quietly agrees, and then blinks, backtracking, "Wait, no, don't fuck up the timeline. Just deal with the laughing bitch this once, and that's it. We can handle the rest."
Danny is smiling at him in that adoring way Tim recognizes as 'I really want to kiss you, but it's not the time or place'. Then, he nods and lets go of Tim's cheeks, straightening up in the air, and his clothes shift all at once, like a magic trick.
Gone are the stretched out t-shirt and the pants with rocket ships. In their place, Danny's body is head to toe covered in stars and galaxies that hold the vague shape of armor, and there's a slightly shimmering, blueish-green translucent cape over one of his shoulders.
The Crown over his head, the sentient artifact much like the Ring on Tim's finger, appears from nowhere, and, after a brief pause - Tim swears it was debating on whether or not the situation is worth the effort - promptly sets itself on fire. Blue flames cast long shadows on Danny's, no, King's face, making him look older and his cheekbones sharper.
Before, the boy was only faintly glowing, and, evidently, the others present in the warehouse were too distracted to notice him.
But now, with the flaming Crown casting dancing shadows on the walls of the warehouse, it's really hard not to see the otherworldly being making an appearance.
"Holy fuck," Tim hears Hood's quiet, astonished voice, and almost cracks a grin.
Yeah, he wants to say, that's my boyfriend. Although he suspects he and Jason are having vastly different reactions to Danny's presence. Because Tim kind of wants to take all his words about dealing with Joker back and take Danny home, straight to bed.
...He is going to have to strangle Jason in his sleep if his reaction is similar. No, that's a wrong thought, this is so not the time for it.
"Who are you, flying glowstick?" Joker sounds rightfully pissed off by the interruption, "Does Batsy employ alien kids now?"
Danny chuckles, the starry freckles on his cheeks glowing brighter, "Okay, just because you compared me to an alien, I'm not going to completely erase you from this plane of existence."
Tim snaps his head up.
"Wait, no killing," he reminds, not because he actually cares but because B would throw a fit. Danny brushes him off with a wave of his hand.
"No worries, he'll stay alive," he smiles at Tim, and to everyone else, it probably looks like stuff of nightmares, sharp, pointy teeth and lips stretched out far beyond human capabilities. But Tim sees it for what it is: a face of mischief.
"Do I get a vote in this?" Jason's deadpan voice comes from somewhere on the other side of the warehouse at the same moment as Joker screeches in rage, "Who the fuck do you think-"
"Nope," Danny pops the 'p', and Tim is not sure if he is answering to Hood or refusing to listen to the clown's monolog by it. Maybe it's both. It's probably both.
The next moment, Danny is gone, disappeared from the place he was floating at, and Tim hears a wet, very unpleasant sound followed by Joker's scream of pain.
"You see this?" He hears Danny's nonchalant, unfazed voice above the clown's pained cries, "This is your rib, bitch- Hey, quit whining and listen to me, it's important."
There's a slap, a rustle, and a sound of ripping fabric, and Joker's voice becomes muffled, like someone put a gag in his mouth.
"You're like Adam now, you know, lacking one rib," Danny continues, "Only I'm not making you a girl out of this one, I'm pretty sure you don't deserve to reproduce. Anyway, going further down that metaphor, I'm the God almighty in this situation, so if you want to keep the rest of your ribs - and the rest of other things that are supposed to stay inside of you - to yourself, you gotta do a thing for me, okay?"
There's some muffled groans that Joker makes in response, then an enraged growl, a sound of a struggle, another slap, and then that same wet, disgusting squelch.
"Two ribs, wow, okay, you're really being difficult about this!" Danny sounds so innocently dumbstruck about it that Tim suppresses a laugh. "Are you listening now?" There's a quiet, choking wheeze that answers him, and Danny sounds quite pleased when he says, "Great."
Tim debates if he should look. He doesn't exactly want to since the sounds provide enough context, but it might be somewhat cathartic for him.
And then the air around him inexplicably shifts, becoming cold and oppressive, weighting Tim down like a heavy blanket and pushing him into the floor. The dancing shadows and the blue light of flames on the walls twist and churn, like taking aim, and Tim doesn't know what Danny looks like right now but he knows he is as far from human as possible, his voice coming with a staticky, echoing whisper, a threatening hiss slithering inside Tim's ears.
"Play your little games all you want, Fallen Jester, but know that you can not win. The punchline to your joke is long overdue, and your soul has belonged to me for quite some time now," his words are cold and uncaring, and in all the time Tim has known his boyfriend, he has never heard him speak like this: with a sense of lazy power, like he is only humoring the people around him.
Like they mean nothing to him.
"I will not kill you, or at least not here and now. My Guiding Star doesn't want to see my hands dirty with your filthy remains. Besides, death is only a moment, and you don't deserve only a moment of suffering," he huffs a short, humorless chuckle, "But, luckily, I am the Eyes of the Universe, the Titan's Bane, the King of the Dead, and everyone will meet me once their eyes fall shut for the last time," there's a smile in his voice now, full of cold and merciless anticipation. Tim feels a shiver run down his spine.
"So just you wait, Jester, and I will meet you on the other side. Then we'll see how whatever is left of your soul is going to spend an eternity."
Tim's ears are ringing with the pure, somehow gleeful hatred that laces those last words. He didn't know he could literally taste the disgust and the promise of pain, and yet, here he is, with a hint of something sour on his tongue.
And then, the heavy, weighted air that has been charged with power is lifted, the shadows and bright blue lights are all gone, and Danny, wearing his pj's and smiling, is standing over him. His feet are planted on the ground for once, and the Crown is gone without a trace, but his t-shirt is still trying to float up. The boy tugs it down again, offering a hand to Tim.
"Wanna go out for a burger since I'm already here in Gotham?"
Tim had never breathed easier in his life. He laughs a little and reaches up, taking his beautifully unhinged boyfriend's hand and standing up.
"I thought you'd never ask."

DP x DC Ring of rage
Why is it I don’t see much about the effects of the ring of rage?
Chiefly the fact it has an angry and wrathful influence on the wearer
You see plenty of ghost king au Dannys but it totally ignores the rage aspect of an item that makes up half the pair of items that give pariah the mega power boost
It just wouldn’t make sense for it to not affect Danny
Danny has his petty moments, he’s impulsive and with Vlad he definitely has a vindictive streak. He’s also not immune to emotional manipulation as shown in Fanning the Flames. It makes sense that the anger that comes with the ring would be something he struggles with
The canon effect of this item is the same as Jason’s “pit rage”(which is fanon) so in a situation those two are in together Danny is the one that’s going to go off if he has the ring

Ex-Pariah Wonder
Ex-lovers Wonder Woman and Pariah Dark Crack pairing Young Pariah Dark looked like a older Danny as Phantom. (think of Gojo, TYBW Toshiro(adult)) Wonder Woman was Pariah Dark's ex-girlfriend, as he was younger 1,000 years ago, and a pretty nice hero. But that changed after he took the Crown of Fire and Ring of Rage, and well, that did go insane and started to change. From his old silver-haired look to Giant with green hair and Tyrant (think of the Ice King Adventure Time for what the Crown did to Pariah), And then centuries were gone, and she didn't think much of her ex other than that he was imprisoned last she heard. But now a cult is trying to summon him, who was still insane, to her world. + So imagine Diana as the cult trying to summon not her ex but has failed badly. As the small boy who looked like the child version of Pariah came out, with the silver hair, green eyes, and his smile, he had the ring of rage on his finger!! Was this Pariah`s child? He would never give away the ring or something similar. But then she saw him turn into a black-haired and blue-eyed boy that looked similiar to her. Did he, while crazy, create the boy? I mean they talked about children and had the clay. But first, take away the ring; she saw what it did to Pariah firsthand. + Danny had been on the run since he stole the ring from Vlad. And I was now in this new place; it was pretty cool to see other heroes. He would find a good place to throw this ring, like the Observants and Clockwork wanted from him. How hard will it be to find a black hole when you have alien heroes here that can help him find one? Vlad would never find it!

Ring of Rage was a mistranslation (prompt)
While I’m working on art I actualy plan to properly finish this time so I can finally prove that yes I can indeed art, I thought hey might as well drop a couple of headcanons that’s been floating around my brain for a while now. Everything below are all my personal headcanons.
The Ring of Rage is a mistranslation that created a misunderstanding while Pariah Dark was trapped in the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep. Ghost Speak is a type of All Speak language, but for the undead. The Ring of Rage never had an english name, only an undead name. Due to this when the ring was spoken about in the engish language it was mistranslated.
Danny only ever knew Pariah Dark as a raging tyrant, heard the Ring of Rage be called what it is, and was terrified of wearing it. Danny never wanted to become The infinity Realm’s ruler to begin with, but he could only hold it off for so long. The Infinity Realm demands a person in power to maintain the balance within the infinity. To help the ruler manage a Realm in which knowledge is never ending and constantly expanding, changing, warping, the Infinity Realm bestowed upon their first Monarch a crown and a ring.
The Crown of Fire brings forth power. Power to control and manage all within the Realm. Power that is needed in order enforce the balance that the Realm needs and demands.
The Ring of Rage, Danny learned what it’s true name was after he finally gave in and wore it. The Ring gave him knowledge, infinite knowledge. Danny was no longer Danny, he was so much more and yet he was still himself. His mind was filled with everything that is known, was known, and will be known. Omnipotent knowledge. Danny saw what it meant to be God. Danny will never be the same.
The Ring of Rage was a mistranslation. After wearing the ring Danny knows this more that anything. Danny experienced for himself the true name of the ring.
The Ring of Madness.

I have made fanart for Rin_may_1103's DC x DP crossover fic called "Green Never Looked So Sad Until I Lost You" on ao3
Hopefully I didn't mess anything up or miss a few color strokes, I don't think I did but probably sooner or later I'll realize I made a color mistake. Maybe 😅

This is soooo good!
DPxDC Ring of Rage? More Like Ring of Engage
The thing is, Tim didn't mean to put it on. He was just kind of playing with it to keep his hands busy while he was thinking about the recent murder case. GCPD had their hands full with the serial robbers that didn't rank high enough to catch Batman's attention, and Tim never had a problem with helping the police if he had time.
And the ring was a perfect fidget toy, if he is being honest. Small and plain enough not to distract him, but the round stone in the middle was loosely attached, making it able to spin inside the frame. Which is what he did, again and again, like those fidget spinners.
Of course, he was just destined to drop it sooner or later. And then, when he reached under the table to pick it up, his finger caught inside the ring, and, well.
The ring was now firmly on his finger.
The problem was that he couldn't take it off.
It wasn't stuck, at least not in the general sense of it - Tim could easily spin it around, and it wasn't tight. But it wasn't loose either, and as soon as he tried to move it past the knuckle, the ring heavily disagreed, almost like shrinking down and absolutely refusing to be detached.
Barbara suggested soap, which didn't work. Dick tried for a more mechanical approach, first with pliers and then with a laser, which the ring resisted with no effort. Cass, who was actually the one who brought the damned thing into the Cave after one of her adventures in Hong Kong, just smiled and shrugged, which was of no help either. Damian offered to cut the finger off, which probably would have helped, but Tim rather liked all his limbs attached.
Bruce called Constantine. The magician took one look at the ring, barked a humorless laugh, and pat Tim on the shoulder sympathetically.
"Congrats, mate," he said, a wry smile on his lips, "I hope you file for divorce."
Although, while all the rest of the Bats and Birds devolved into fits of hysterical laughter (Steph), indignant sputtering (Damian), and cries of outrage (everyone else sans Alfred, who was pointedly unimpressed), Tim couldn't even bring himself to be surprised. Really, his life had been a shitshow since he was around ten. It's not like he didn't expect himself to be accidentally married to some otherworldly magical creature by this point.
The worst part - worse than the actual engagement, that is - was that Constantine couldn't exactly tell them who the spouse was.
What he did say was that the Ring belonged to the King of Infinite Realms, Keeper of Unseen Worlds, and Eyes of Universe. But those were only titles, and, as John Constantine begrudgingly admitted, there has been a change in the management recently, so no one really knew what the new almighty monarch looked like or what they were, much less their whereabouts.
"You can't blame me for not being keen to find out, though," John said, wincing, "The last one was a bloody tyrant, and the Realms operate under the right of conquest rule."
At least, the mage assured them that since the being had not yet come to collect their shiny new spouse, they might never show up at all. The Ring has been lost for ages after all, so maybe the King didn't even remember having one. Or, the previous King didn't, and the new one didn't know about or didn't care.
The first week after the incident, they spent anxiously researching and worrying. Bruce even went as far as making Tim wear a tracker at all times, which was not great, but he did appreciate the gesture. Kind of.
After the first month with no sign of any changes, the worry started to abate. In half a year, most of the family stopped trying to keep an eye on Tim at all times lest he suddenly disappeared. Two years later, even Tim himself treated the Ring as a natural part of his daily life. The stone inside was still a great fidget toy, engagement or not.
Three years, one month, and five days after Tim first put the Ring on his finger, when the world was falling apart and breaking in front of him and there was not a single thing he could do to stop it anymore, Tim pressed his lips to the cold, dark strip of unknown metal on his finger.
"Whoever you are, I don't even care, please," he whispered in a useless prayer, his voice hoarse and his throat dry, "please, help."
And the world came to a stop with a short, amused chuckle.
"Oh, I thought you'd never ask."

Ok so I'm a big fan of Ghost King Danny, and I think it's super cool whenever people have the Royal Artifacts change to suit the ruler. Crown of Ice/Aroura slaps like all getout. However! If/whenever writers alter the Ring of Rage, they always seem to change it to "Peace" or "Serenity" or "Justice" or something of that ilk, and that always strikes me as incongruous for Danny, even within the context of the fics. These things get picked because Danny is a "hero", as a generic Good Guy tag. The most creative I've seen is "Ring of Balance" (can't remember where I saw it) but I think we can get more creative, especially if we ditch the whole "assigning moral significance to inherently amoral attributes"
Ex: Ring of Chaos, Ring of Stupid, Ring of Space, Ring of Whimsy, Ring of Tired, Ring of Loyalty, Ring of Problems, Ring of Secrets, Ring of Contradiction
Feel free to add more possibilities, both silly and serious

I headcanon that the Ring of Rage and the Crown of Fire changed their names and appearances when Danny took the thron. In my mind they turned into the Ring of Balance and the Crown of Frost

Note
I just came up with this headcanon, I'm sorry.
What if.
1 option. The Crown of Power and the Ring of Fury are the full-fledged "queen/king" of the Infinite Worlds. They just need a host as an advisor and partner.
Option 2. The Crown of Infinite Worlds chooses its own "king." And her choice fell on Danny after Pariah's defeat. (Imagine that the crown did not share any powers with Pariah, he thought it was just a bling and an important accessory to understand who Pariah is. It just burned beautifully over his head)
Option 3? Combine the 2 points where Crown and Ring are the rulers of the Ghost Zone, have their own minds and opinions, but after Pariah everything went down the same path. Perhaps Pariah was so powerful that he unknowingly drove the consciousness of the two great artifacts inside themselves, considering the Ring and Crown to be the usual signs of a ruler. Suppose, if he subdued them to himself, was he using only a fraction of their power? They never spoke to him.
When Danny defeats Pariah, the Artifacts make a "bluetooth connection" to the boy, at least to test his mind, character, and strength in case of another madness.
(They're physical objects, of course, but that doesn't stop them from appearing over Danny's head and on his finger at some point, and disappearing just as well. If there is a meeting or negotiation with someone, the Crown and the Ring flare up and reveal themselves, the King conveying some opinion to the people on their behalf)
I honestly love all of these ideas, and I don’t think I can add much to them. However, what if I were to take the Bluetooth analogy further?
Once Danny gets the Crown of Fire, a screen pops up in his mind. A text box that says, “Crown of Fire” and another that says “Ring of Rage” are there. He hesitantly selects the Crown of Fire first, and the Crown just pops up on his head.
There’s now a little “Connected” that’s in the Crown of Fire text box, with an “(i)” that’s next to that. Pressing the (i), he sees the four new boxes, “Name” with the words “Crown of Fire” off to the right of the box, “Device Type,” “Disconnect,” and “Forget This Device.”
He goes to the Name box, and changes the “Crown of Fire” to “Crown of Ice” since he does have ice powers. Suddenly, the flaming crown above him changes, and now a crown of ice sits above his head.
Oh, Danny’s going to have some fun with this.

It’s weird that the show said that the Ring of Rage and the Crown of Fire are sentient then never elaborated
Legit, they just say that Pariah was strong enough to control the entities within the ring and crown and then it’s never discussed again
It’s a single line too, I have questions about this. It feels like it should have been the setup for something, and maybe it was but then season 3 happened

Theory: The Crown of Fire has no special power boosts, but it does give you special abilities/magical authority.
Tumblr media
When Vlad goes to take the Ring of Rage, he says “Here I am, with all his [Pariah’s] power in the palm of my hand.” Which implies that the stuff that lets Pariah blow lairs to bits is coming exclusively from the Ring. Whatever constitutes “raw power”, the Crown isn’t contributing to it.
The Crown clearly isn’t just an empty key though. As Skulker exposits “Only he could control the energies contained within the Crown of Fire and Ring of Rage.” We know from Vlad that the energies in the Ring is “Raw Power” but there is also clearly something powerful and important in the Crown too.
The final hint is what Fright Knight says when he pulls the entire town into the Ghost Zone- “By the authority vested in me by my lord and liege, I claim this town now and forever under the weather of Lord Pariah- The King Of All Ghosts!” He very specifically mentions Pariah’s title and that Pariah has given him the authority to do this. How I interpret this is that the Crown allows Pariah to share his power with the Fright Knight, if it isn’t also what’s allowing Pariah to do something as reality-defying as teleporting a whole town into a different dimension.
Like with the Ring of Rage, there may be other powerful artifacts in the Ghost Zone that can only be used if one has the power of the King given by the Crown.
