may i just say (as i continue to reread jane eyre): it is sooooo good that jane becomes part of a community, gets a job, gets her own little cottage, educates the local girls, is beloved by local families, makes friends, enjoys nature, calls out st. john rivers on being a repressed freak, etc. i just love this part of the book. girlie is heartsore but girlie is thriving on her own!!!

realisation of a lifetime

my dad just told me that films are a part of something that we are shown, the before and after doesn't exist.

I can't do that, I can't see it as is. There is always an after.

This is, I have realised, why I don't like films. They don't usually end well. Every happy ending is tainted by what I think will happen in the aftermath of the film.

The one moment of peace, followed by credits, followed by a black screen, followed by the character's depression rearing their head back in yet again.

The moment of triumph, closely followed by the reality of the character that's going to be killed by a racist shithead that we've barely seen.

No fucking wonder I can't enjoy films, I'm supposed to feel what they feel and mirror it instead of continuing to write their lives in my head.

You want examples of anti-Manicheanism in Tolkien?

Take Maedhros - he who performed "deeds of surpassing valor" and stood against the darkness and armies of Morgoth for centuries. He who swore a blasphemous oath, condemning himself to damnation. He who murdered his kin not once, not twice, but four times. And he who, finally holding the very object that symbolized his damnation, realizes the futility of all the evil he committed and throws himself into the fire.

Is he bad? Is he good? He swore a blasphemous oath - by Tolkien's standards, that alone would make him 'bad.' And then, of course, there are, you know, the murders. But is he absolutely evil? Born to be a murderous thing? Beyond any redemption or pity? How can someone who so fearlessly resisted The Evil be an entirely lost case? Can absolute evil even recognize the horror of its own deeds?

Tolkien, far more insightful than those who try to divide humankind into simple categories of good and bad, masterfully depicted the complexity of human nature (the Children of Ilúvatar). Humanity is not inherently evil, nor is it doomed to fall - yet it does, and still holds the potential to rise again: to see, to believe, to choose to do good.

No but @korruptbrekker reached out to me and asked if I was interested in doing a collab (go check out their piece here, I implore you), and you know I could not say no to such a wonderful artist asking lil ol me to do something fun like this. We ended up doing a swap @laugaheim and I came up with ages ago that I so sussinctly refer to as a moodboard-sketch-lineart-render swap. Rolls right off the tongue, right? Nah but it's exactly what it says. Make moodboards, swap and sketch from the other's, swap again and line the other's sketch, and then swap once again and finish the piece you sketched.

Be respectful when filming or taking pictures in public.

It's one thing if you're filming or taking a picture of a busy tourist attraction where it's unavoidable that some of the crowd is going to be in your picture or video. But it's another thing to intentionally take a picture or video with the intent of capturing someone doing something you find funny or embarrassing, without their consent, with the purpose of mocking them or having "funny" content.

First of all, most people are going to rightfully feel like it's a violation of their boundaries to be intentionally filmed or photographed without their consent. It's also just bullying behavior to take a picture or video of someone with the intention of mocking or ridiculing them.

Some people might think it's harmless if the other person never finds out they're being filmed or photographed, but it's still heavily disrespectful regardless of whether or not they find out. And you can't ever be certain it won't get back around to them.

And some people think "it's all in good fun" or "we're laughing with them, not at them" but if it's someone you barely know, or don't know at all, you can't know how it's actually going to make them feel.

How did you get so good at animating and drawing? Aside from practice, what techniques do you use? What software do you use?

I only know the basics/fundamentals of both drawing and animation.

For drawing, I've carried out lessons about the Elements and principles of design, the history of graphics design, traditional drawing techniques, color theory, anatomy, character design, blah blah blah. Lots of info I still do my best to practice/put in my art. If y'all notice me animating gifs then it's bc I have time to do so... ( I'm in term break until late July ) They're likely short, but it's through animation blocking, timing, and incorporating both in-betweens and tweening.

I've used Adobe Animate/After Effects for school projects, sometimes for doodles only, I currently use Clip Studio Paint bc it's where I'm more comfy with ^^ Maybe someday I'll be able to afford Toon Boom hehe.
