Okay, I need advice or information or something because I'm very confused right now.
So the name "Neurodivergent Brain Goblins" comes from these bits of myself that I've named and given an identity to in order to help other people understand my brain.
I've had neuropsych testing done (4.5 hrs of testing, surveys, and forms). They agreed that I have C-PTSD and dissociative symptoms with a somatoform disorder, but they don't agree that I have DID because I don't lose time and don't have other personalities that take over/replace mine.
My brain goblins are their own people but also are just me. Mini little parts of me that sometimes control more of my life than I often do.
Reynold is my logic. He is my assistant manager who definitely wasn't given enough training and is more of a glorified babysitter than anything else 😅 I honor the amount of shit he puts up with every day. He is second in command and acts as a buffer to all the other brain goblins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there is Jeff 🫠 I call him my ADHD goblin. Jeff loves buttons. He loves pushing them and watching them light up and hearing them make noise. Jeff also loves running around, jumping, making ridiculous noises, and seeing how many times he can do the same exact thing in a row before it pisses everyone else off 🤣 sometimes Reynold will give Jeff a tennis ball to go bounce against the wall for a while just so he can get some real work done.
(I'm not done drawing Jeff, but this is him so far 😊 he is a very mischievous little shit lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also have Frank my OCD Goblin. He carries around an abacus instead of a calculator because 1. He is obsessed with numbers and 2. Physically moving the pieces to count calms his anxiety 😅. Frank loves simple repetitive tasks that he can do on repeat so he can count them over and over again. He often teams up with Jeff because of this and then they bug Reynold all day. Kind of a "hey! Hey! Hey check this out! Look what we can do! Hey!"
Bobby is my Autism Goblin 🤣 I love him so much but like sometimes I just.. he tries so hard and his effort is absolutely beautiful, but he just isn't good at any of it 🙃 he is the director of communication, so anytime I socialize Bobby shows up to help navigate talking. But like he just REALLY isn't good at it 🤣 the heart and soul he puts into it though is why he is still the communications director 🥰
I also have Manic Manny, Depression Dave, Sensory Sally. Though they like to work from behind the scenes. Their control is really strong but everything they do is by sneaking up and whispering in Reynolds ear and *poof* disappearing. He can't ever see them, but the weird creepy crawly feeling they give him makes him act on what they said every single time.
There are lots of other Goblins that work in this factory, but they are more like background characters? Like, everyone has a job, but most are just quiet office workers that help to keep the lights on 😅
If you have read this far thank you so much!! My question now is, what are my brain goblins? Is this DID or is it something else?? Tbh I don't really care what it is because these are my Brain Goblins and I love them no matter how much they annoy me 😅 but I also like learning information because sometimes it can really help me with managing life lol

The only experience we can all have in common is the human experience, which will be different for every person. 🥰
Man I hate posts about the Neurodivergent Experience that try to universalize it in opposition to the Neurotypical Experience. I just saw a post about how "neurodivergent people don't perceive early signs of hunger and neurotypical people do which is why neurodivergent people forget to eat" and a bunch of people in the comments like "whoamygod makes so much sense" but like, I am able to detect hunger at its early stages. I do forget to eat when I'm manic but that's because I'm distracted and don't notice it, not because I'm not able to perceive it if I think about it. Anyway the Neurodivergent Experience is not universal and one size fits all so stop saying stuff like "the Neurodivergent Experience is __" it can be annoying especially to people like me who have been told they're faking it their whole lives. Even something like "a lot of neurodivergent people have this" can go a long way to being inclusive.

Theoretically I am built for a hermit cottage in the woods where I never have to be bothered with people again.
In reality, my mind is infested with Goblins that start to chew at the wires if I go for more than two days without seeing my friends.

i know i'm not the only neurodivergent person who feels this way
but i am genuinely about to cry while I'm trying to plan meals for work lunches. Everything is so much effort and none of it is something I want but I know I have to eat things or I'll feel terrible but it's just. too much work. and i don't enjoy it. so whats the point?
and then i just have to keep doing this forever?????

This is Reynold! He is the brain goblin I drew years ago when I was first trying to find a way to explain my brain to people.
He is in charge of "logic". He is an assistant manager who never received any training and really is just a glorified baby sitter to all the other brain goblins 🤣 he wears a funnel on his head to "funnel in the information" and carries a collandar to "filter the information"
Since creating Reynold, I now also have:
Jeff the ADHD Goblin
Bobby the Autism Goblin
Frank the OCD Goblin
Manny the Manic Goblin
Sensitive Sally the Sensory Processing Disorder Goblin
Dave the Depression Goblin
Penny the PMDD Goblin
Each of them earned their name and title as they made themselves known. Reynold finds Jeff, Frank, and Bobby to be the most obnoxious 🤣 he usually just gives Jeff a tennis ball, frank a calculator, and Bobby a speaking engagement (he isn't good at it but his passion is amazing 🤣🤣🤣)

SO HELP ME IF LILO ISN'T A GODDAMN MENACE IN THE LIVE ACTION REMAKE.
Least we forget Lilo is a problem child [ie: an autistic kid not being given the proper means of expressing themselves, or given any leeway for their behavior]. She NAILS A GODDAMN DOOR SHUT to keep her sister out of the house. MIND YOU-- CPS DOESN'T JUST SHOW UP FOR NO REASON.
Lilo had to have had a history of problem behavior outside [justifiably] kicking Mertle's ass. [Though her mom's absolutely a Karen and would call CPS on that incident.] Especially since Lilo bit her.
She feeds Pudge every day-- because her parents died in a rainstorm and she's afraid she'll lose Nani too, unless she feeds the fish that [in her eyes] controls the weather. It's all very reasonable logic for a six year old to have.
Tumblr media
Lilo's acting out is also in response to losing her parents-- an extremely traumatic thing. Children aren't built to process that kind of trauma without therapy-- so her bouts of anger are her brain attempting to manage it. She emotionally disregulates all over the damn place in the original film.
No one understands her-- not even her sister. Leaving Lilo feeling isolated and alone. She cannot express herself properly, and she gets bullied by her peers-- furthering this feeling of being too weird to have a normal life. A common experience for neurodivergent kids. It's not as though Nani can afford to send her to therapy or get her evaluated, either. She's working full time and doing her best but she's not ready to be a mother. She's still a kid, herself.
Tumblr media
SO IF THIS KID ISN'T A GODDAMN MENACE, THEN IT'S NOT LILO AND STITCH. IT'S JUST SOME RANDOM KID AND STITCH. The entire point of the film is that Stitch helps Lilo the same way an ESA would. He calms her down, helps her learn how to redirect destructive behavior [some of which she herself has exhibited in the past] and he helps her cope with everything she deals with.
Lilo would have been taken by CPS and separated from the only family she had left if that little alien goblin hadn't crash landed on her island.

I have so many neurodivergent RQG headcannons that I don't even know if I have a characther that isn't nd in some way.
Presenting my main one:
Almost everybody has autism.
Sasha and Cel are on a special category because they have so much autism that it becames one of that situations where it's not that Lydia has autism but they might want to check it up because maybe they do.
If there was a picture of Sasha Rackett in the dictionary definition of autism it would make sense. Both Barret and Eldarion are ableist but Barret purposifully triggers Sasha while Eldarion is the type that would force her to undergo ABA thinking she is helping.
Cel is the poster person for auDHD. I don't think I have to explain it. They are just very auDHD coded and it is gorgeus.
Barnes has autism as well. He specially struggles with getting overwhelmed by too much sensory stimuli.
Azu is absolutly autistic and it shows specially on literality.
Zolf is autistic as well and Harrison Campbell is his special interest.
Wilde is extremely high masking and has so much anxiety about showing any traits that can be seem as a "liability" but he is still autistic.
Hamid has autism and he also has strong RSD but he is also high masking as a response to the extreme bullying he suffered before adapting and becaming popular in middle school. Hamid also has dyslexia. He still loves reading but he takes a long time to finish books and has dyslexia glasses.
Grizzop has ADHD. Now thing is apparently that is a case where goblins brains are wired different as a well to adapt to their short life spans but since society is not adapted to them they all end up fiting some form of neurodivergency and in Grizzops case is fully ADHD with focus on the hiperactivity. He doesn't have autism tho. Just ADHD.
Now it hurts my soul but Bertie also has autism but either he pretends he doesn't or more likely just Musk Bertie is an "aspie supermacist" guy and uses his diagnosis to deflect from his behavior and also as a way to call other people slurs. Important to add Bertie is also deeply a ableist and infantalizing.
Ed Keystone has extreme ADHD with big attention problems as well as autism. He is the poster boy for autistic himbos everywhere and we all should aspire to be just like him.
Einstein cannonically has the equivalent of a brain injury that affects some of his processes- his ability to cast magic but also likely some of his social skills - and I really love his small arc of being frowned up as useless and hiding his disability while pretending he is oblivious only to not only find people that deeply apreciate him no matter what and being one of the most usefull characthers on the podcast (and beloved by all). Einstein is the goat and he is a very overlooked invisible disability rep.
Carter pretty much cannonically has ADHD and it deeply affects his life and relationships, he endured all the horrible hardships of being neurodivergent in a broken school system and he is my son and deserves the best and for people - in universe - to stop underestimating my man, also kudos for Carter because he really went from characther I dislike to characther I don't care for to my boy I won't shut up about him and I love him.

Hello! I have ADHD and autism and lots of ideas. Once I sit down to write a story, I get overwhelmed by the need to plan and write and edit and write and edit and write and... You get the idea. Is there any suggestion you could think of to make the process easier?
Streamlining the Writing Process When You're ND
I think this is something a lot of neurodivergent writers struggle with, and to a degree so do a lot of neurotypical writers, because it can take a long time to work out a writing process that works for you.
Planning - It may be worthwhile to sit down and think about how much planning/what planning tools you feel you need before you sit down and start writing. Like, if you feel you could probably write the story with just a beginning to end summary, make writing that summary your one planning item, and move on to writing. Or, maybe you want to do an outline/summary, character profiles, and a map. Make yourself a list somewhere for each of those things--maybe even breaking it down into the necessary sub steps, and deem yourself done when you've finished them. You may still have an urge to do more, but reassure yourself that you don't need to. And, remind yourself that you can plan as you go to fill in the gaps.
Writing - It might help to think of your first draft as a "zero draft." Or, in other words, a very rough draft that is just really there to help you get ideas down in a semi-cohesive manner. Write it beginning to end, and then check this off your list.
Editing and Revision - This is where you can get caught in a bit of a whirlpool, but this is where it's useful to think of your drafts as revisions. Read through the zero draft and make notes of things that need to be changed, added to, rearranged, or polished. Make it a list, then go through the list and complete the tasks. Once the list is done, that revision is done. Now, do it a second time, but this time only mark down things that are a genuine problem. Try not to listen to your nagging doubts or your brain being wishy-washy--look for things that are actual fixable problems. Make another list and complete the tasks. When that list is done, that revision is done. Then, if you feel it's necessary, you can do another read through specifically looking for typos, spelling errors, etc. Make another list and go through it. When it's done, it's done. And you can check off this story as finished.
You might even streamline my suggestions in a way that works for you. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, there's an app called Goblin Tools which is amaaaaazing for when you get overwhelmed by projects that have a lot of tasks. You basically put in a task like "write novel" and you can set how detailed you want the task list to be, then it generates a list of tasks you can complete to get the project finished. It can be really, really helpful in getting things done. :)
I hope that helps!

ok ok you asked for asks sooo
this question is keeping me up at night (i am way too obsessed with your AU it’s concerning lol) sooo… are the neurodivergent characters getting the support they require in a school setting? like for example, extra time on tests if needed or skipping potentially overwhelming events like assemblies and pep rallies? or does their school just essentially say “haha well,, that’s a you problem ☺️”
It depends on when in the plot. Soda got a diagnosis and an IEP early on. His parents were actually very loving. 10/10 parents, but his mom got cancer and his dad got broken heart syndrome so they died when he was about 12–13.
Ponyboy was basically ignored at home so he slipped under the radar and was brushed off as “not an academic type”, but once he talked to Darry about it, Darry got him a professional diagnosis and accommodations.
Johnny really just has sensory processing issues. He obviously has other difficulties because of his autism but that’s really the only one that could impact him academically. And some executive functioning maybe. But he kind of just vibes in a school setting because his constant thirst for knowledge about everything was being fed. Also his mom was a drug addict so as much as she loved him, she probably wouldn’t have gotten him accommodations.
Keith and Steve just got therapy and/or meds since their issues were primarily anxiety (Keith doesn’t produce enough serotonin and Steve’s brain is inhabited by a lying goblin), but Keith would have periodic bouts of horrible anxiety that would cause him to skip class anywhere he could just so he could be somewhere he could panic without being a disturbance (guidance, bathroom, hallway, anywhere), so there may have been some form of intervention, but I wouldn’t say he has an IEP.
