Two things I think are important to acknowledge about children and young teen lit

1) What they do well in the sense of literature/craft (usually it’s pacing, hooks, interesting characters)

2) What areas are sacrificed to make them different from adult literature and consumable by children (usually it’s elaborate prose and certain complex topics or character traits)

I don't want my cellphone to have AI I want it to have 3 days of battery time. I don't want my computer to have AI preinstalled I want it to have seven usb ports and high ram at affordable price. I don't want my games to have AI built levels I want them to be so optimized I could run them on a nokia.

I think people would armchair diagnose bad people with cluster B disorders much less if psychiatric disorders hadn't all been given names by ableists who of course picked the traits most unberarable to "sane" people to name them rather than, you know, the ways it affects the people that have them. It's like, when doctors are all "this disorder gives you extremely low self esteem. and it's called the Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder" or "this disorder makes you want to die so bad. and it's called the Hysteric Bitch Disorder" or "this disorder disconnects you from your peers. and it's called the Insane Evil Cunt Disorder" and so on and so forth, so of course you have people going "oh, this person is a selfish fucking asshole, they MUST have Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder! this further proves that all people with this disorder are like that in the first place!" star wars is so good because it has a built-in deus ex machina trope that is frequently referred to by people in that universe. "there is no such thing as luck" there sure isn't buddy!! the cosmic forces that be specifically designed YOU as their special little blorbo for the next 15 consecutive minutes!!! have fun!!

every time i think i understand my whole deal with regards to mental health, food, and functioning as an adult i get slapped in the face with some new term that adds a new facet. like my parents raised me in what was definitively an "ingredient household". we didn't have ready to eat food at home, except for things like a banana or carrot sticks (good but not that high in calories). most meals were cooked - even easy meals like soup were usually made on the stove and not the microwave. i think my parents would have bought me alcohol before they allowed me an "uncrustable" lol

but as an adult, buying my own groceries, i keep finding myself trying to become an ingredient house. i buy staple items that you can cook into meals, and often i don't have the energy or time to cook them. raw veggies and meat often go bad before i can use them. i feel guilty whenever i spend the extra money for ready-to-eat or heat-and-eat meals. but my mom was a full time homemaker! of course she was saving money by making stuff at home! i live alone and work 40+ hours a week! i just don't know how to shake the feelings of failure from both a fiscal and maturity standpoint when i get prepackaged cookies instead of flour, sugar, and butter

tired of jedi characters comparing their relationship to their master with a parent-child dynamic. they dont KNOW that dynamic!

give me more jedi comparing a non-jedi's familial relationship to that of an apprentice and a master - at least that would make sense!

jedi going "yeah, an adult who guides and protects you and you're supposed to listen to them? yeah thats a master- oh, your mom is like that too? neat :)"

more jedi not really understanding non-jedi family dynamics. more jedi being horrified at the concept of someone being rejected or mistreated by their parent, because "why did they choose to have you then???"

there's a lot of interesting parallels between master-padawan dynamics and parental/familial dynamics. i just want to see more of the comparison going the other way.

Least fun parts of thrift shopping:

This thrift shop used to have jeans for like $3 and now everything is priced like it's new

Hear about a cool new thrift shop in town and you check it out and it's actually "vintage upcycling and consignment" so the shredded jorts are $250 on sale

This place used to get cool stuff but the tiktok haul resale people found it and now anything decent is snapped up and immediately resold for like $500 online

"Ooh this is cute" and then you check and it's shein

The jacket of your dreams is in your price range but it's 3 sizes too small

Your absolute FAVOURITE thrifted item finally wears out beyond salvation and when you do research to maybe find a replacement it's been discontinued since 1983
