I don’t want them working together either but Musk is not suddenly “an ally” to anyone but himself and we cannot afford to pretend like he is, or like this is him turning over a new leaf. it’s not. He still sucks as a person. That didn’t change. We’re watching two of the richest men on earth throw tantrums over the internet, not someone using their immense wealth to fight what’s going on.

Musk is not an underdog, he is not a hero. He and his money is part of how we even got here. Don’t forget that.

TMAGP 46 Thoughts: The real evil was capitalism all along

Boy. What do I even do with this one? I will say that this episode leaned way more towards comedy than horror. I laughed at many points and felt afraid at no point, but I do love a bit of horror comedy. Unfortunately, with all the names and the detached tone and format of the case, it was very difficult to follow even with the transcript. Which is a shame, because I found the format clever and interesting, just not very fitting for a podcast. Anyway.

I don't have too many theories about this episode, but a lot of loose threads were tied together. Spoilers below the cut.

As someone who's been writing minutes (albeit for a student organisation and not an objectively evil corporation), I found this episode hilarious. No matter the chaos or the emotions involved, you keep the tone neutral and matter-of-fact. Granted, I never witnessed several murders (three of the same person) during those meetings. But I guess these people are used to gruesome incidents. They had to switch locations three times. I don't know why that's especially funny to me. That, and "forced to resign from the board in Q3 2022, following his death".

So it looks like Elric Capital has been funding all sorts of fucked up (probably alchemy-related) business initiatives. We got a follow-up on both the Zorrotrade app (ep. 13) and the Booth (ep. 36). A representative from the Elric Rehabilitation Initiative was also present at Menke's trial. I'm interested in these "specialist investments". We get names and aliases for two: Teeth and Inside Out. Reminiscent of Needles. I'm guessing Elric Capital has their own little circle of Externals, though I can't begin to imagine what sort of returns they're expecting from them. As of now I'm also convinced that Elric Capital funded the research of the Magnus Institute.

The incident with Mr Adam is a really charming homage to Frankenstein. The name Adam, the doctor calling him "the creature", the whole deal of him being a gentle soul made for love but inspiring only fear and hatred. I love the idea of Frankenstein's monster being brought to the Shark Tank to make his sales pitch with absolutely no clue of how capitalism works.

The business idea was VERY questionable to begin with. Apparently Dr Augustine wanted to just rent out his creation to a person grieving the loss of a loved one, and have Adam take the form of said loved one by having him harvest and wear their remains? Kind of like those horrible AI models of dead people except arguably worse. One of the previous identities Adam mentioned was Arthur Winstead, who was Darla's dead husband in the very first incident we heard in episode 1. So it's cool to know that it connects. And awful to know that Augustine asked Darla to meet her dead husband at the graveyard, where the creature had just finished eating him. Like have some tact and arrange the meetup somewhere else.

Alchemically, I don't have much to break down here. We don't really get a clear picture of how Adam was created. Artificial life brings to mind homunculi again, but those are generally grown, not built. Though the original creature very well could've been grown, and the additions are just that. Corpses, dismemberment and cannibalism are symbolically all very common in alchemy, with the idea being that matter must die, be broken into parts and then be reunited through an act of devouring. But these are also just common themes in horror, so I don't want to read too much into them here.

Outside of the incident, I'm a little sad that this might mean the end to Alice's adventures with Heinrich. But I also think we really need her in the office to fill the weird emptiness with her presence. Also, Celia is being drawn to the portal again. Was Sam not enough to restore the balance, or was Celia's hypothesis wrong to begin with? Did something change? Will Sam experience similar pull towards his home world? Things to ponder on.

Smallvile gave me a level of brain rot that should not be possible (it's always the media you want to fix instead the objectively good ones [YMA was my exception apparently])and now I have written full synopsis for fics I'll never write. No idea if I should be sharing them here. But they are all some shade of Clex and maybe someone wants to grab them or talk about the AUs. Idk.

He would have stopped months ago if the doctor had been clearer. You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs, he had thought. A sacrifice for a greater good and honestly Edge would have made it so much worse anyway.

It would not had changed a thing, not really. But Lionel liked to lie to himself.

[One can't choose what memories are going to go away. Eletrical Injury has hard long term effects, Lex healing factor helps him through serious brain trauma but it takes a bit and it can't fix everything, Lionel wishes he was a better man but doesn't do all that much to chanfe and Clark seeks absolution and (don't tell Martha and Jonathan) also a bit of revenge].

2. The product of a love we didn't recieve

Tim was probably going to kill him. Or cry with would be worse actually. Bart would surely cry.

An accident happens during a Young Justice mission and Kon-El dies during the attack. Except he doesn't.

Trapped in a different dimension all Conner can do is aclimatize to his new life and hope for a rescue. Fortunately at the moment all the major changes are in Gotham and in Smallvile Conner can almost see the future (if he had actually paid attention to Chloe stories).

Or

Kon-el, clone supreme or genetic love-child of a bald man and a alien in bright underwear, Conner Drake as of his not actually death three days ago, watches a car fall down a bridge taking a passerby with it and feels he has no choice but stick around and play matchmaker until his friends bring him back home.

(In a different reality Lex Luthor grieves, does some science (with the help of an annoying little bird) and joins forces with Lois Lane, Superman and a group of kids in capes for the sake of bringing his son back. He and Conner just started having a relationship and he is not losing it).

3. Arsenic on the sugarbowl

A complete lifetime changed in less than three minutes.

Julian Luthor survives but not without consequences. Nineteen years later Lionel Luthor dies suspiciously.

Lex Luthor never really confessed to Clark about having killed his father but it was always there in the implications, they were still friends, if strained ones, and Clark didn't want to belive Lex capable of it. For all the others it was the confession that Lex knew of his father's crimes, that he was complicit and a threat. But something was wrong.

Julian was tired of Lex always taking the fall.

Ten years ago, nine year old Julian "Lian" Luthor moved to Smallvile after an attack at the plant makes him afraid of losing his only ally at the Luthor household (and because his dad thinks the meteor rocks can be the key to curing his epilepsia).

How did such a sweet kid ended up killing his own father?

4. You think the devil has horns (well so did I)

There was all this mystique about Gotham.

The monsters and shadows that belonged to Batman as much as he belonged to them. Or maybe that was just how Bruce liked to tell it.

After all Clark belived that everything that came from Gotham stayed there. Until Batman told him that someone involved with the Gotham Underworld had just moved to Metropolis.

Alex Cobblepot is as charming as he is dangerous. But despite Bruce's warnings Clark can't avoid gravitating towards him.

At the same time Superman starts reciving mysterious messages from someone called Enigma that wants to help his fight against Lionel Luthor's questionable science.

Why is Clark's former friend Lucas Luthor telling him to stay away from Alex? Who is Enigma? What is Batman hidding from him? And more importantly what's the connection between Lionel's dead son and one of Penguin's adoptive heirs?

I'm immune to the "what if your mother had an abortion/had aborted you" argument not only because of the whole "if I don't exist how would I care" paradox but also because I recognize my mother as a human being with agency and because I do not consider the concept of motherhood and abortion mutually exclusive. people who had abortions can become parents later on. parents can have abortions. how do know my mother didn't have an abortion at some point? or yours?
